Welcome to the OOC Discussion page for Star-Crossed Revolution!

Here we can discuss anything RP related, or just shoot the breeze together!

If you have any questions about the RP, the lore page I put up, or whatever else, feel free to either ask here or in a DM and I'll be happy to answer!

Thank you for that incredibly detailed bit of lore!

Is there a real-world equivalent to Ka'ta? (I'm a huge music nerd...OK...nerd in general)

I'm thinking my character will either work in a tavern as a server, or run an alehouse. This would let her hear a lot of conversations she could possibly glean valuable information from.

That lore is amazing

i know my character will be an orphan of some kind, assuming form the war its self, and through young they are drawn to fight

I might need some help with finding an image.

Caffeinated Joy Caffeinated Joy Thank you! And good question!

Its closest equivalent would probably be old Nordic folk music. This is a pretty good example, just without Cello (maybe with, but it's relatively rare to see a Cello in Veilbrand so it'd be a rarity, or used only for special songs/performance circumstances) and with more choreographed dancing synced to the lyrics.

Starwalker123 Starwalker123 Thank you kindly!

The war is only 10 years old, and the minimum age for the RP's characters will be 18. So the youngest they'll have been when it started is 8, making them currently 18. So long as that's met, I look forward to your CS!

Oh, and you guys can just post your CS's here, or throw them to me in DM's. I don't really see a need to make ANOTHER OOC page for them.

Cheers!

Thats exactly what i had in mind haha.. App is done just needs coding and an image

Thank you so much for the music sample! I love it! I'll work on finishing my character (or maybe characters) as soon as I can.

daaamnnnn. opening with a pogrom. that's.... shit. well fuck. anyway, I'm going to pull up the document on the qualifications to hit actual honest to god Fascism, and see how many he ticks.

  • Individuals exist to serve the state, so individual liberties are denied
HE is the state, and the populace is denied the right to worship, education, music/art, and movement.
  • No criticism of the government is allowed
duh.
  • Extreme Nationalism
havent seen much of "we must be extremely loyal!" and wholehearted populist support, but this is a military junta, not a right-wing populist movement. but people are mostly too scared to say otherwise
  • War is the highest aim
he's a military man, after all. he's highly isolationist as well. and also, the nation was always militaristic, making this one an easier transition than most.
  • State-Run Capitalism- alliances with capitalists and landowners creates a stable economy, allows individual profits, and aids the state
we dont have capitalism, but he has grabbed control of several lord's lands, probably.
  • Anti-socialist and communist
anti-revolution in general.
  • Government censorship with government controlling all media
coralling everyone into small areas in order to control what they consume. shutting down history classes and public school in general
  • Leaders promote aggression
the POGROMs at the start, "anyone caught in the act of fornication or adultery are to have a brand placed on the back of their left hand, and their ring finger removed so they can never wear a wedding band." agression in the penal code. although, the nation was militant before.
  • Denial of democracy
no shit sherlock
  • Scapegoating of some kind of outgroup
the Revolution seems to be that group atm, but he'll need to find someone else to pick one once they're gone. maybe that's why he keeps them around, they make a wonderful scapegoat for all of the kingdom's problems

aaannnddd that is a lot of the boxes.
we have to kill him.

🤣

Killing him is definitely the long-term plan!

Do women take their husbands name when they marry or do they keep their own names?

Do women take their husbands name when they marry or do they keep their own names?

They have the option the day of the wedding. The official (usually a priest) will ask for her decision.

Typically, it's considered an honor take the husband's name. And although the choice is the woman's, typically if she refuses to take his name it's looked at as a decision in poor taste. And there are some who would look down on the woman for this. Not many. But even a select few can be damaging or even threatening in such cases, depending on how steadfastly they follow the idea that it's an "honor" to take the husband's name.

There's always those shitty extremists, ya know. XD

Also, I've updated the Lore page with a little something special!

I hope you enjoy!

Ooooh, I love the new lore! Thank you!

So, given the music is rather Nordic in nature, is it safe to assume dress/naming conventions would be Nordic-ish as well?

It would be a mixture of Northern and Central European naming conventions.

Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, etc. would all be acceptable.

But an emphasis on Nordic would definitely be appreciated. ;D

Smashing! Thank you! Sorry if I'm being a pest with all my questions.

Northern and Central Europe. Hey, the later (Czechoslovakia+Poland) is where my mom’s side is from. Speaking of which: are there religious minorities in the country? (Or were there before the Fascists came?)

Prior to the coup Veilbrand was welcoming of immigrants from other nations. So, yes, there would be religious minorities.

The original story concept this RP is based off of has four other nations, each with nearly a dozen unique religious faiths.

However, since I'm too lazy to include all that, I'll simply open up the RP to create any sort of cultural/religious practices you'd like for your character to have. What I can do is give you a basic rundown of what the other nations are so you have an idea where your particular faith and such most likely comes from.

(Also, I'll be adding this to the lore page shortly after posting here)

Cre' Est - The "Mother" Nation. So called because she was the first to be founded and given official borders when settlers originally arrived on the continent some 800 years ago. This nation is sort of the Americas, and Western Europe of the continent. Culturally diverse, though sporting an obvious ethnic/religious favoritism towards what would be considered Caucasian, and the original monotheistic religious practice of the nation known as "Sirthi" (pronounced "seer-tee"), which worships the Goddess Peur'Tia. She is known by several names, but most commonly heard is "Holy Mother." She is benevolent, all wise, and abhors violence which is why Cre' Est, despite having the largest military presence on the continent by way of sheer numbers (boasting just over 1.2 million soldiers), considers itself a pacifist nation and would rather solve problems through diplomacy than war.

Triveila - The Nation of the Sea, and effectively the East-Asian (China, Japan, Mongolia, Korea, etc) nation of the bunch. As its title would imply, it makes its living largely off the bounty of the sea. The finest shells, undersea jewelry like pearls and abalone, are all imported from this nation through trade. Triveila's primary religion is a polytheistic faith known as "Himida," and there are four central Gods/Goddesses of worship. They are: Atsureiia (pronounced "Ah-tsoo-reh-ee-ah"), the All Mother, and Queen of the Gods who oversees the other three. Reito, God of the Seas and Winds, known for his unpredictable nature and mischief. Omora, God of the Sea's Bounty, and the central figure of prayer for farmers and hunter-gatherers. Miatsu, the Moon Goddess, whose calming influence may temper the chaos of Reito's wrath when he loses control and bring the sea to rest.

Shaharan - The Nation of Sands, and the Africa and Australia of the continent. This nation has a history steeped in in-fighting and border disputes with her neighbors. This is largely due to the lack of a central government, and instead the land is dominated by Clans consisting typically of around 200-300 individuals. Strength and honor in battle are the central pillars of adulthood (sort of a "Might makes right" ideology, but not 100% matching that description), whether you're male or female. And instead of marriage they have what they call a "Life Bond." Instead of exchanging rings and vows, a potential union will see the lovers duke it out in a ring and observed by the entire Clan. Whoever winds becomes the Leader of the home, and the central authority if and when they have children. Because of this disjointed Clan-based landscape and a lack of a formal central government, conflict between Clans and between border neighbors is inevitable. Though, they've managed to find some stability after Cre' Est and Gweynura (the final nation to be described shortly) introduced the concept of diplomacy around 100 years ago. They're still new to it. But they've established where the borders of their neighbors are and are far less likely to enter a conflict than they were in centuries past.

Gweynura - The Nation of Nature, and really the only outlier among the five nations of the continent in that it bears more of a resemblance to Tolkein-esque Elven culture. However, there are no elves in this RP. Sorry. The people of this nation do not have religion. Instead, they practice spirituality. There is a strong devotion and respect for their history and ancestral lines. And visiting the graves of one's lineage at least once per cycle (aka, year) is essential to maintaining a strong connection to one's heritage. They also believe there is a spirit to everything that exists. Even rocks, the dirt you walk upon, the grass, the wind, the sky, the sun and moon, etc. Everything has a spirit. And everything has feelings. To respect these spirits is the path to both internal and external harmony with the world you live in.

Hopefully this helps!

As I said before, I'm open to letting you guys design your own religious and cultural backgrounds for your characters based off this information. If you're not quite sure where your designs would truly fall, feel free to ask me and I'll help you out!

Cheers!

OK, so my revamped character idea is to have two characters, husband & wife. The husband owns a tavern and the wife works as a server. Together they keep their ears open for anything interesting and report all news to whomever.

Also, I love all the lore dumps!

... I think I have a problem. XD

I came up with a folk song (instrumental only cause I'm RUBBISH for lyrics), called "Bidh Fahsk" (pronounced "beed-fask," like "fast," but with a "k" instead). Bit of a special tune since it features a cello, lol. From ye olden Veilbrandian language, the rough translation would be "Keep Moving."

The near unchanging and unpausing percussion is more or less the heart of this piece despite the melodies hovering overhead, and is meant to represent the human spirit of constantly moving forward, as one does in life (ideally).

I hope you enjoy! (And please forgive my lack of musical imagination... I played it pretty safe with the composition, lol)

GojiBean! I love this! Please never apologize for adding amazing flavour to your RP!

Don't worry too much about the simple melody. The execution of it is what matters. If you look at a lot of popular music through history, the simple, easy to remember songs were the ones most popular, especially in a medieval setting. Among one of the more popular forms were songs that could be sung in a round. I could give a full essay on medieval folk music, but i will spare you.

I have yet another question. Or questions. Do you have other city/village names we can use? Is the game going to be based in Valoc? Basically, I need somewhere for my peeps to set up shop (the tavern).

Good question.

Valoc is the name of the Capital City of Veilbrand, and that's where Eagon resides.

The only village/town/city name I've come up with so far is Ortusk, which was the first village to fall victim to his wrath ten years ago and is basically the "Ground Zero" of his assault on the nation and its people.

You're welcome to come up with names if you want, even if they're from name generators or generic "Nordic" or "European" town city name searches. I'm not too picky. Lol.
