Plot TLDR
My character is hiding the fact that he was born to a race which is greatly hated by the nation he lives in, but because of his strong morals and character he's selected as a candidate to marry the princess who is currently the queen in waiting (already poised to take the throne, but according to her nation's laws she requires a husband to serve as King before she can formally ascend to the position). He doesn't believe he's worthy of such an offer and initially didn't want to accept, but recent events and his own conscience make his final decision for him.
Your character is the princess and she is a half-breed between a father who is a Nymph and a mother who is a Uranus (more on this below). While attending the second of presumably many more Candidate Gathering Events she senses my character via her Uranus abilities and immediately decides that he's the one to stand beside her as king despite everyone around her questioning her judgement and challenging her decision at every opportunity.
Following the announcement of their engagement everts transpire which take them on a chaotic whirlwind of experiences which tip the scales at both ends of the emotional spectrum, test their personal beliefs, and challenge their dedication to one another and the country they both love and wish to protect.
Character Backstory, and More Plot Detail
My character is a young man in his early 20's named Kyo'da. He was born to the Tuarva race who have immense physical prowess (think Captain America and the zenith of human physical potential levels of strength), but zero magical resistances. Even healing magic is harmful to his kind in most cases. The only exception is if the healer is a true master with the finest of control over how much magic is in use at any given time and carefully controls the rate of healing over a long period of time, which is an exhausting process.
The reason the Tuarva are hated is because the majority of their kind are barbaric and savage with only a few outlying clans or family groups living in a more civilized manner. However, with the bulk of the race constantly starting wars and violating international treaties in the name of aggressive territorial expansion it was decided that if they were going to war it would be the first and last time. A bloody war of over 40 years was fought with most of the Tuarva being wiped out by the magical forces of the other nations and peoples they fought against. Today, they would be considered an endangered species were it not for the fact that most other races simply don't care about them and would rather they all be dead than wandering the world.
Because they look exactly like normal human beings, it's easy for a Tuarva to simply hide their strength and live a perfectly normal and civilized life which is exactly what Kyo'da has been doing. He was born to one of the outlier clans who lived civil lives. And, sadly, he lost his father and elder brothers to the war even though they never wanted to participate. Only recently he also lost his mother and younger sister to events he adamantly refuses to speak of. Following the loss of his family he lost everything else including his home, what little wealth his family had, and even his citizenship in the city he grew up in. Driven out and destitute he sought to build a new life in the city of Valkyom where he now resides while working as a heavy lifter for a logging company (and being very careful to make it look like it's a struggle even though it's about as difficult as holding a basketball).
Due to his upstanding nature, kindness, and his dedication to conflict resolution through peaceful means he was scouted as a potential candidate for the Princess and sent an invitation to the 2nd official Candidate Gathering Event.
Initially he ignored the invitation and left it on his dresser. But after thinking about the news of what happened last time, and re-reading the information and thinking about some of the rumors which were floating around the city he decided it was best if he attended... One of the rumors Kyo'da heard was that a Tuarva who'd survived the war and had a nasty reputation in the criminal underworld might try to attack the event. For what purpose, nobody knew. But if there was even a minute chance of this coming to pass then Kyo'da knew he had to be there to stop him.
Your character is the Princess, and there are several things you're free to make up about her using your own creativity including her typical statistics (name, age, height, weight, voice, etc). However, there are a few details which are necessary for you to incorporate into her character for the sake of the plot actually working.
The first is that her father, the current king, is a Nymph. A Nymph looks a lot like a human being save for having slightly pointed ears and hair which is some shade of green (males typically have darker shades than females, but it's not a hard set rule). Nymphs have the ability to both communicate with nature and become one with it (literally) for short periods of time. A typical adult Nymph could merge their bodies into the trunk of a tree or a fallen log or a large flower bed for around 2-5 minutes depending on how conditioned they are to maintaining the state.
Second is that her mother is of a race known as the Uranus. They look a lot like Elves with longer pointy ears, long blonde/white hair, and pale/semi-pale skin. What separates the Uranus, however, is that their kind have three unique abilities.
- The first is the ability to sense the mental state of anyone within a short range (usually 3-5 meters or 10 to 16 feet). Try lying to a Uranus and they will sense the shift in your mental state and call you on it.
- The second is the ability to see another individual's heart as a series of colors, each of which represents a different aspect of who they are. For example, a heart with red as the dominant color and surrounded by light greens and yellows is a heart filled with passion, warmth, and kindness. A heart with red as the dominant color and surrounded by purples and blues is a heart filled with anger, sorrow, and mistrust. A heart with purple or black as a dominant color, regardless of what colors surround it, is a heart filled with malice and hatred. Typically, a full-blood Uranus can sense the colors of another individual's heart from up to around 6 meters away (about 20 feet. People who train to suppress their emotions and alter their mental state for the sake of disguise, like assassins, can sometimes go unnoticed. But if direct physical contact is made, such as shaking hands, all colors of the heart are instantly revealed no matter how well hidden they are.
- The final ability is the one they're most famous for which is the ability to alter the emotional state of anyone they focus on. For example, if someone has flown into a fit of rage the Uranus can focus this ability on them and immediately calm them down. If someone is deeply depressed, a Uranus can return the light of hope and comfort to their aching heart and help bring them out of it. Typically, a half-breed loses one or more of these abilities while the last one is significantly suppressed compared to that of a full-blood. Your average full-blooded Uranus can accomplish these kinds of emotional alterations in about 10 seconds of dedicated and undisturbed focus. Cut off their focus and the ability will instantly fail and they'll have to try again.
Our dear princess, however, is no typical half-breed. Despite being a perfect 50/50 split of Nymph and Uranus the princess has actually developed enhanced levels of each of her lineage's respective abilities. Whereas a full-blood Nymph can hold their nature-merged state for 2-5 minutes, she can hold hers for up to 10 minutes. For her Uranus side, she can sense the mental state of others up to a distance of about 10.5 meters (or about 35 feet). She can sense the colors of someone's heart up to around 15 meters (about 50 feet). And her ability to alter the emotions of another individual takes approximately 2 seconds.
She's a very special young woman.
Extra Plot Details
The 1st official Candidate Gathering Event took place one month prior to the beginning of the RP.
Of the 100 candidates who arrived, the princess was only able to speak to 44 because one of them turned out to be an assassin who had infiltrated the event with the intention of killing her and her parents. He'd managed to keep the darkness in his heart well-hidden, but when it was his turn to step forward and speak to the princess he made the mistake of shaking her hand. Immediately she saw the black colors he'd tried to hide and called for the guards to detain him, which they did. The event then erupted into chaos as his compatriots who were disguised as attendants and 'guests' of the other candidates tried to finish what he started turning the Ball Room into a battlefield. Thankfully, they were all detained by the best mages and guardsmen the Royal Family had to offer. And in relatively short order, too. Only a handful of people were injured in the conflict, but it was enough to cancel the event and schedule a second. Those whom the princess didn't get a chance to speak with were re-invited and would have priority in the order to speak with her whilst the other 44 individuals would be chosen by the scouts.
And thus, we have the beginnings of a fated meeting.
Kyo'da is one of the 44 new candidates invited to fill the void of the 100 total candidates.
