You could say that the night had taken a turn for the worst. Sparkles, a young girl 12 years old at the time. She sat in her bed, dressed in her PJs, a pair of pink pants and a shirt with a unicorn on it. She was busy doing homework, a math book in front of her, a end of a pen in her mouth as she nervously chewed on it as she tried to figure out how to do the division problem. Sparkles was usually good when it came to math but this long division was killing her.

She was tempted to go ask her mom for help, but her mom was probably busy with a business call or something else. And she didn't have a dad to go to for help. So she was on her own to finish this homework. But this wasn't the bad news. Upsetting, yes, but bad no. It was when she heard a knock at the door and her mother rushing past her door. Sparkles found this weird, as nobody ever knocked on there door unless they were invited. Then it was last 9:00 and nobody ever came over after 8.

Sparkled stood up and tossed her book to the side, holding her hand out and the book quickly got covered in a pink glittery light and floated to her desk. Opening the door to her room she pecked out and say where mom. Still dressed for work in a business suit coat and a dress shirt with a red tie on, then a white skirt and shoes. Then Infront of her was a police officer, and out of Sparkles sight that officer was holding the hand of a little girl dressed in a dark blue fluffy and soft footie. The officer explained how a fire broke out in the house and the girls parents were on the hospital.

"Oh that's not good." She said looking down at the little girl, her god daughter. She bent down and tried giving her a encouraging smile, "Hi there sweet-pea." She said holding a hand out to her, ",Looks like you're going to be having a sleepover here " she said. Sparkles had gone back to her room after not being able to hear what was going on.

The little girl, Dinah, looked up at her godmother, her eyes and cheeks stained with tears as she timidly reached out to take her elder's hand. Her hair, oddly a dark shade of blue, tumbled over her sniffling face, shoulder-length and braided with beads.

"A sleepover? What's that?" she spoke softly and timidly, pronunciation imprecise as most kids of her young age, probably three or four years, would have.

Dinah's hand would grip her godmother's hand tightly, worried about the word hospital, as that word was rarely a good thing discussed in her household. She looked up to the police officer, then at her godmother, with a look of panic.

"A sleepover is where you sleep over at someone else's house." She said gently taking the little girls hand from the officer and gently pulling her inside. She had went down to try and be a bit closer to the girls height. Of course she was still towering over the girl but she was trying to be comforting. She thanked the officer and shut the door and picked the little girl up and took er to the nearest chair, sitting down with the little girl on her lap.

"It looks like you're all ready for a sleepover." She commented on the girls PJs, making small adjustments to make sure the girls PJs were on nearly and straight. She then gently used her hand to brush the little girls hair back, "We might have to see what will happen. We might have to get you some more clothes depending on how long you stay... But it looks like you'll be stay here with Sparkles and I for a few days." She said trying to sound calm and like this was good news.

Of course the lady knew what was going on... There had been a fire at the little girls house. And thankfully the little girl was unharmed in the whole ordeal. But her parents, who did what they could to protect her, were currently in the hospital. They were stable from what she knew... But they weren't in great shape. It had taken CPS a few days to find the files of the girl and find out that she, Mist, was her godmother. But they had taken care of the girl. Gotten her PJs washed, her bathed, and took care of her. But the PJs had been the only thing for the girl... As the house and everything in it burned to the ground. But Mist was quick to tell CPS to bring the girl to her... And now here they were.
"You sleepy?" She asked the girl.

Little Leah looked back at the police officer who had helped take care of her before the door closed behind her. Her head dropped low before she felt herself picked up from the underarms and plopped onto the adult's lap. Looking closer at her, Leah remembered her godmother, but it had been a little bit. Aunty Mist, was it?

She smiled at the conversation provided by her "Aunty," looking proudly down at her pyjamas as if she had intended to come there with them. She liked them a lot. They were comfortable, warm, and her favourite colours, and hugged them close. She did not mind wearing them for the long-term either.

"I sleepy a little," she responded, yawning at the thought of sleep. While away from her house she had an arrhythmic sleep pattern, but now it finally seemed to be on track. Her eyelids seemed to be droopy, though every now and again snapped open as if she remembered something important. Her head shook left and right a little. "Mama and Papa," she said, saying nothing more but looking in alarm toward Mist. "They tucking me in?"

"Yep that's me Leah." She said smiling proudly at the girl. Even as a little tot the girl was as sharp as a knife, knowing who Mist was even though they had met a couple times. Though wondered if she would remember Sparkles. But the little girl sould learn who Sparkles was in a bit if she forgot. As the little girl hugged her PJs it made Mist smiled watching this as the girl admitted to being tired and fighting sleep

Mist got up and started to head to her room, but paused for a second when the girl as if her mom and dad were tucking them in.
"Well... No sweet-pea." She said continuing to walk to her room, getting there. It was a modest size room with the essentials for a bed room. A bed, dresser with a mirror, make up on it, a jewelery box, etc. "Aunty Mist is going to tuck you in tonight... Your mommy and daddy are a little busy." She said throwing her blankets off the the side and carefully laid the girl down and covering her in the blanket, "But it'll be ok." She assured the girl, tucking her in, and then gently petting the girls head.

Leah seemed a little disappointed by her parents' not being there, but she was swift to recover when she learned that Aunty Mist was going to help her get ready for bed. She yawned happily, stretching her diminutive arms to either side of her head, and smiling toothily at her being patted on the head.

"Thank you," she replied, brushing the hair from her gaze and looking at the surroundings. There was beauty all around her. She wondered whose it was first, having some semblance of understanding of possession.

The bed felt intensely comfortable, seeping around her with the soft and fluffy blanket enveloping her. The pillow was plushy and fine, providing a nice cushion for her head to take her to Dreamland. Her eyelids fell sooner than she had thought, and before she could finish the words, "Good night, Aunty," she yawned and within the minute was fast asleep.

Most sighed in relief as the girl quickly fell asleep. Of course she was sure the girl has been through the mill herself being with CPS and then being brought here. Then the stuff on between. But Mist sighed in relief at the toddler seem unharmed from the fire and overall seemed to be in high spirits. Though she wasn't sure how long that would last... As she would eventually have to tell the girl about her parents. But for now the girl could sleep, blissfully unaware of what was really happening.

But Mist was not so lucky sadly. She grabbed her purse and a light jacket. Now she had the information of where her friends, Leah's parents, were at. She had to go to the hospital and see them. So she explained some of the situation to Sparkles, wanting her to keep a ear out for Leah incase the girl woke up before she got back. But then swiftly left for the hospital.

Leah's rest did not last long, her throat feeling parched and her head filled with nightmares. She tried her best to be a good girl and sleep, but she could not combat the thirst and dreams that plagued her. The LED clock on the sidetable was mostly obscured by the reading lamp, but cast a red light across the room with its alien numbers. She could not tell time yet.

She tossed her bedsheets messily to the foot of the bed and slipped onto the floor, facing backwards. The floor felt comfortably cool, making her toes wrinkle in pleasure before she trod to the door and opened it with a creak. Everyone seemed to be in bed. The silence was shockingly different than when she first came, and she headed immediately to her aunty's room which she remembered was off-limits before. If there was light in Sparkles' room, she did not notice it very well. Things were well-lit in the hallway, however. Maybe it was not as late as she thought.

Rap rap rap rap rap, went her on the door, knuckles feeling a bit sore on the hard surface. She hoped that this would wake up her aunt, but it was probably loud enough to make Sparkles stir too. Her eyes were downcast toward the base of the door, her chin tucked into her pajamas, looking for light to come from underneath the portal.

"Aunty? I'd like some water," she requested in this manner.

Sparkles was about half asleep, all her books and school equipment were floating all around her room in a pink sparkling magical balls. The girl was darting her eyes across the same line as she had a book in her lap, her reading assignment for the week. She had hoped to knock it out but even in her hazy sleep she knew that wasn't happening. She closed the book and sat it aside just in time to hear a light knock on her door.

The girl teleported to the door and opened the door hearing Leah asking for her mom. There were night lights in the hallway that made it easy to navigate around the house. But Sparkles bed room light was still on and when she opened the door the girl was bathed in the light revealing Leah's messies bed-head and her cute fuzzy PJs.

"Oh hey Leah." The girl said with a smile squatting down to be at the little girls height, "Remember me? Sparkles?" She asked the little girl with a smile one her face.

Leah's sleepy eyes slid slowly up to meet Sparkles', her jead tilted slightly to the right as she started to rub at her right eye again with a fuzzy sleeve. It took a moment to pierce the haze of tiredness as she looked over her face, but she did recognise her.

"Sparkles," she said with a growing grin.

She definitely recognised her fun cousin. Then she frowned and looked around, perhaps at the glowing, floating items around the room if they still were doing that. Wasn't this Aunty's room? Perhaps they switched rooms, or she got turned around. This house was different in some ways from her own.

"Aunty?" Leah queried, gulping down her fears from the nightmares before, but she still was shivering. She returned her focus to Sparkles. "Aunty and water?"
