Futuristic Space Survival Horror Search - AKA The Horror Time Forgot/What Lurks Beyond The Stars

Hmmm, zombies don't feel oitlandish enough to me ... What about like ... Dead Space? That's pretty much where we're headed anyway. An ancient space parasite that transformes people into horrobly mutated super predators possessed by a singular, malevolent will.

That was more what I was thinking tbh. Because Dead Space is awesome. xD
I was thinking that there should be unstoppable swarms of these weird alien-animal monsters that will try to kill us that we must run further into the abandoned ship to escape. There will also be the mutated humans that are much more powerful, but we'd be equipped to deal with a few. And then finally, I think there should be an entire alien monster that is just a mass of mutated flesh that runs throughout the bowels of the ship, behind the walls, under the floors. Well, only parts of the ship anyway so we can leave it until later. But that sentient alien mass could be what's creating more parasites and aliens, which we have to either kill or escape from.

Well that's makes four! Welcome, welcome. We have much to discuss. VuV

Shannon Trevor Shannon Trevor Welcome to our parlour

Kloudy Kloudy CabalAnomicPotato CabalAnomicPotato ... hmmm ... I don't know, I was leaning more toward like ... groups of two or three threshers, not big ol' swarms of things with teeth. I'm trying to stay away from the tropes of zombie horror, if only because there are a million of those on the boards, and they aren't really terribly inspiring. They're all about drama, and a horde of unthinking, uncaring individuals ready to rip you apart to satisfy their own needs. Like, think about any scene where you spot one single zombie ... no one is threatened by one single zombie, you just bonk it on the head. I feel like space horror is more about ... being woefully unprepared for the unknown. We want a creature that, when a character sees just one, that character is like "... oh shit ... I'm dead ...", because it's smarter, faster, and deadlier than us. I do like the idea of a big ol' mother organism growing rampant through some of the ship though, just a big mass of flesh and tendrils.

... but then, maybe I'm just being picky, and a huge nerd, but I'd like everyone's input ... let's say a vote.

For everyone's next post, tell me what kind of creature you would most prefer, even if it's something I've already shot down (because this IS a democracy), and what kind of character you'd like to play, and we'll just start this shit up ...

PS, Cabal, I've got you down as an engineer.

I vote for lone smart-ish hunter mutants, and my character will be ... a pilot

I vote for that also. ^^

And I'll be a synthetic personal assistant AI that serves as a guide and bodyguard for the captain/pilot. (Like the ones from AVP)

Yea, hunter sounds good, I'm open either way.
I didn't mean it would be a zombie virus, more like it would spread like one, through contact.
Also thanks, engineering everything, from your space cools, to your dark matter engine reactors. (or whatever).

Alright, cast your votes and let me know what kind of characters you want to play. You two will be our last entries.

Just a note to everyone, we won't be using traditional profiles, but instead will build profiles as we go. They will only show what other characters know about you, and if you have a dishonest character it could all be lies.

I vote for the hunter as well and my character will be a Medical Officer.

How will the antagonist be played/controlled?

If I join, I'd prefer a hunter. Possibly also some slowly spreading component

Actually, I'm tempted to say evil magic that causes things to appear and disappear, but that would depend on how the antagonist is being controlled

... Sooo ... No. I mean, if you can come up with a half-baked scientific explanation for something unnatural happening, sure, but we're not explaining anything with "magic."

The antagonist will be controlled as an open NPC, but I'll step in if someone goes way off-script with it.

Looks like I found this too late, but I'd like to leave my input on the whole zombie debacle anyway.
Instead of zombies you could have some sort of traitor venom, which would make npcs affected loyal to the creature, but leave no obvious clue. The affected npc could sneak off and relay plans to the creature, and might even take a crack at someone if they're alone. The scary thing is not the potential violence, but the misdirection and subterfuge the infected could reap.

Yeah, I was pretty tempted to suggest The Thing (from The Thing). But I dunno how you'd to that. It's hard to to our characters which have secrets to that extent.

Hidden motives is fine though, but you can have those anyway

Lol, I have no secrets. I am a robot. How may I be of service, sir? : D

Sure, I'm cool with being a co-overlord of everything that exists in this tiny pocket of space! : )

I can't wait for Marco to malfunction and try to kill you all. xD

I'm still trying to figure out if another RP has fallen over or not but I'd like to make an EVA and rescue specialist.

Ironrot Ironrot At the noble and selfless request of my co-mod, I'm upping the previously stated max player limit by one ... meaning your EVR Specialist will be on the transport ship.

But that's the last one, I'm serious this time!
