Silver Sights High School
IC || OOC || CS
It was, to most people in the reasonably sized suburban town of Sodden, Georgia, a normal autumn day. The residents would rise, commute to work from their bedroom community, and go about their day as they so monotonously had the weeks or possibly even years prior. Yet today was also an abnormal day for many of the local youth as well as working adults. It was the grand opening of the newest high school in the area, Silver Sights High. The name was given because it been built on top of an old silver quarry, the land having been rather cheap to purchase considering all the work that had to be done to prepare it for the building’s construction. Filling in and stabilizing of the many mine-shafts and large hole that had remained vacant for so many years.

At this point, the irony should’ve sunken in. It was the first time all of the staff were strictly nonhuman openly. Usually, with the current tension between the many races, it was second nature to most to conceal who they were and hide behind a series of lies they had taken the careful time to weave in order that they might live a peaceful, seemingly human, life. But, because of a series of recent crimes lead by a terrorist organization that went from promoting freedom to outright attacking human owned businesses that took advantage of the lack of rights given to various supernatural beings, the political shit hole that is the government of the United States of America decided it was time to step in. The president publicly announced the experimental school, stating that if they can coexist in a classroom, they can do so on the streets. He also went a step further in revealing the first lady, his wife, as inhuman herself. More specifically, an elf rather adept in magic who had been using a glamour to give herself a more human appearance.

The reaction was more than predictable.

As of right now, the nation is currently split. Those who support everything fully, and those that think humans to be superior in every way, shape, and form. Violence is at an all time high for the first time in a while. Humans and others alike trying to gain the upper-hand with rioting and murders. There had been a total of three confirmed assassination attempts on the presidential family, although none were successful due to the ward placed around the White House. Along with that, a vampire clan wreaked havoc in New York City, draining a whole subway of people during the morning rush while the national board of the most powerful mages began to try and worm their way into the democratic and republican political parties.

And with all this rucks putting Sodden in the public eye...precautions needed to be taken.

Police activity had been increased in the majority of areas (but more specifically around areas where nonhumans are suspected to live) along with the school being watched twenty-four seven by humans and mages alike as to assure that the first day would run smoothly.

Or as smoothly as it possibly could.

Officially, the first school day for Silver Sights High would begin at 7: 30 AM on the current Monday morning, but for the staff that worked there, that began an hour earlier. The teachers were gathered into the largest conference room that was had, most late arrivals quietly trying to find a seat as the principal stood in the front of the room. She was a tall woman, reaching a staggering 5’ 11” with flats and almost a perfectly straightened head of artificially dyed blonde hair. Her pale gaze looked upon the lot of inhumans with a slight air of disdain, clearly wondering why she had gotten such a position as she cleared her throat, signaling that her little presentation was about to begin.

“My name is Sylvia Taylor.” Her voice was cool, impersonal. “I will be your overseeing principle here as Silver Sights. Myself as well as most of the school administration will be ran by a superior, human, touch.” Someone couldn’t help but speak up, a young man without any visual representation of his species. “If we would not be trusted with administrative tasks, then why are we being trusted around human teenages?” Sylvia’s stone faced expression didn’t change. “When one of you do end up revealing your true nature and massacring half of the school’s population, it’s going to do wonders for your and your damned species reputation. Now, any other questions or can I continue?”

No one spoke up.

“Good. You all should have received a file with your room number, key, username and password for the system, bell schedule and so forth. It goes as follows…” She would lean forward to press a button on the laptop in front of her, the screen behind her flicking to a new page.

Five minute are allowed between each class for traveling purposes
First Period: 7: 30 - 8:25
Second period: 8: 30 - 9: 25
Third Period: 9: 30 - 10: 25
Fourth Period: 10: 30 - 11: 25
Fifth Period: 11: 30 - 11: 25
Sixth Period: 12: 30 - 1: 25
Seventh Period: 1: 30 - 2:25

“You all are expected to arrive 15 minutes before the bell rings so students can enter the classroom and get out of the halls and cafeteria.” She droned on, clearly not enjoying this presentation. “Within class you’re expected to cover everything within the curriculum the school has provided. How is none of my concern as long as it gets done, but harm coming to any of the students is. When that occurs as I have stated before, the public will finally get to see that this was a horrible idea from the beginning.”

After speaking for a little while longer, Sylvia would gestured towards the door where two humans walked in. At first they appeared to be simple police liaison that any school around the country would have, but soon it became apparent they were armed a bit heavier than normal. “Officers Koles and Garzon. While they will be here to supervise the students, consider yourselves under their watch as well.”

Kiraan, who had remained silent in the room the entire time couldn’t help but grimace somewhat. She understood the precautions they were taking, but being spoken down to while they were set in place wasn’t softening the blow.

The lecture lasted for a little while longer before Sylvia glanced at the time, closing the lid on the laptop and gesturing around the room. “You have exactly thirty minute before the bell is going to ring. You are allowed to introduce yourselves and mingle here, but I would rather you all get to your classrooms as soon as possible. I would hate to have an accident on the first day.” With that, she left.

The two officers, however, didn’t. They instead positioned themselves by the door with an equal amount of disdain the other human had.

Laslow had arrived early, and thus had no issue finding a seat. None of the chairs seemed to have a gap in the back that his tail could fit through, which was something he was relatively used to, so he just curled it over his lap. He hummed as he pulled a pull of yarn attached to something he had only just started and a crochet hook. What a better way to pass time until the meeting actually started than to work on a toy he was making? He loved toys! He especially loved the little stuffed animals he would make as a hobby. Who wouldn't love a little stuffed manatee? His tail started twitching back and fourth across his lap.

He stopped his project when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. Who could be texting him at this hour? It was still too early for most of the people he knew should have still been asleep at six in the morning. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and read the sender's name: 'Peppermint cAndy'. It was his brother! He could just hear Andy sighing at the nickname that Laslow had assigned him in his phone.

Laslow put his phone back in his pocket. Andy was far too worried about him! He was sure that the first day would go just fine. Sure, he hadn't exactly been able to look over the curriculum before the actual start of the school year, but that had to simply be an oversight, right? They wouldn't try to sabotage the teachers on purpose! He returned to the Manatee he was making, humming happily. If one didn't go looking for something nonhuman about him and find his tail or try inspecting his teeth, he looked essentially human with his contacts in. He would've preferred his glasses, but couldn't find them in time to leave... Though he supposed he could've taken a bit longer looking, considering how early he was.

Time passed and the Hellhound was closer to done with his Manatee by the time the Principal, a woman almost as tall as he was who smelled of perfume and what he could only pin as disdain or anger, arrived to start the meeting. He set his work in progress on his lap so that he could concentrate on what the woman was saying.

She was... Unexpectedly mean, even for someoone whose pheromones reeked of frustration. His normally human ears shifted into dark brown pointed dog ears, maintaining the same placement on his ears, and pressed close to his head, reflecting how upset he was in a form of unwanted body language. Massacring half the school population? He'd never do something like that! He'd never hurt anybody, especially a child! He doubted any of the others would, either. There may have been some negative speculations against some of their races (he knew that his, in particular, had quite a few), but he was sure that none of them would do something like that!

He remained silent throughout the presentation. He... Didn't want to frustrate the woman by saying something that she didn't like. He wound and unwound some yarn around his finger as a form of stress relief. The entirety of the human staff couldn't act like her, right? Yeah, there had to be friendlier humans around the building! He was absolutely sure of it!

He was sort of relieved when Sylvia left the room, but the two officers she introduced didn't seem so keen on leaving them all alone. He put his crochet materials back in his satchel and went to stand up, pulling out his phone once again.

Stepping foot into Silver Sights High School brought a ripple of uncertain feeling through Maia Sarif. Despite her recent recredentialing, it'd been some years since she set foot inside of an institution of learning. Each time had been full of unpleasant as well as pleasant experiences, and a shiver of nervous anticipation raised goosebumps down her back. Not a single 'first day' had gone well for her and she had little faith that this day would be any different.

A faint smirk quirked Maia's lips as she entered the conference room and drew looks. Even America's nonhuman community tended to be American. Her checkerboard black and white skirt was fine, as was the black turtleneck she wore but the hijab always caught the attention of people, human and nonhuman alike. Especially in the South.

She removed the sunglasses she wore to hide her crimson eyes and managed a small smile for her nonhuman colleagues in the room, revealing a flash of fang. Despite her headcovering, those features should be enough to convince most that she was one of them.

Settling into a seat, for she'd arrived early, Maia was disappointed with the lack of preparatory material so she killed time waiting for the Principal arrive by refamiliarizing herself with the schedule, login instructions and the other basic 'This is how you work here' paperwork.

Sylvia Taylor's presentation left a lot to be desired. Still, it made the Medusa actually smile right from the opening remark about superior human touches. She'd expected the prejudice and it felt savagely pleasing to have her worst opinion of humanity confirmed yet again. She crossed her arms under her breasts and leaned back in her chair, enjoying the Principal's open animosity. At least Maia didn't have to waste time giving the human the benefit of the doubt before being inevitably disappointed. Ironically, she actually liked the Principal more, for Sylvia had saved them both a great deal of time as a result.

The arrival of police officers was a bit of a surprise and that at last wiped the smile off of the Medusa's face as her wine-colored eyes narrowed at the sight of them. Even at Wheaton, where she'd endured a years long smear campaign and outright hostility, there hadn't been police present just to protect the students from her. Then Maia shook her head and actually smiled in admiration at the Principal. Sylvia had done something even Maia hadn't thought possible; she'd found a new way to offend her.

When Sylvia wrapped up her presentation and left, Maia rose from her chair and stretched, her muscles still a little stiff given it was early in the day. She brushed her skirt out, unfolding a crease, and noticed the Hellhound sitting nearby with his...was he making a stuffed animal? Really?

Necromantic Necromantic
"Maia Sarif," she said, offering a hand to shake with Laslow. "English. It's nice to meet you. Have you been here in Georgia a long time?" Her accent was unmistakably not American, with that distinctive Middle Eastern lilt that managed to be charming, intoxicatingly foreign or a little alarming depending on one's biases.

Paula didn't want to admit that she'd had.. high expectations.

A superior human touch. An inevitable accident. How dare she?
Paula had taught other children to draw for as long as she could remember. Little vampires she stayed up all night for, dog-people who were having surgery to de-web their fingers, even a teenage girl with the eyes and general temperament of a hawk. She had worked hard to be a goddamn teacher and nobody was going to take that away from her. No-one.

She had walked in that morning chipper, having taken her lesson plans and art supplies to her room, which she was surprised to see was the only studio she could find.

Before long, she'd sorted through her paperwork, convinced her snakes to curl around a paintbrush as a way to tie her hair up in a bun - 'Come on, I know it's chilly in here, it'll be nice.', and walked into the meeting.

She was happy. Her children, too, were happy for her. She'd had two clutches in her life - the first within a year of her marriage, the second a few years after that, which left now three surviving children - and she loved them all dearly.
The mortality rate for snake-children was ridiculously high, mostly because health care was almost unattainable.

Coriander had brought her out for coffee in celebration.
They were no longer married, but lived on the same property, in houses a hundred or so feet apart. After the divorce he had built a small house - with a heated hallway in between for easier wintertime visits - and she respected that.

She was far too airy for some people.
But still, she was glad he wanted to be in his children's lives, and made an effort.

She had suffered. Went to monster-only schools despite her wishes.
Goddamn, how DARE she?

She shook her her head. Heard a hiss, mumbled an apology, looked up toward the other teachers and their conversation.
It would.. be rude to interrupt, she thought.

"Goodmorning America! It is 5 in the morning and my name is Mike.." Alex hit the button of his alarm clock. He rolled over and saw the cute guy he had met yesterday lying next to him. He had already forgotten the name of the guy. Alex went out of his bed and walked to the kitchen. His one floor appartment was quite big for someone living alone, but Alex didn't mind. He looked at the ring on his finger, the ring what was deceiving everyone who looked at him. They would see the fake Alexander, the human one. Only without the ring they saw the real Alexander. For nearly a century now he had being wearing the ring constantly, only when he was with close friends or family he took it off.

That was one of the reasons Alex applied for a job at the new Highschool. It was a place where he didn't have to hide his true self. He sat down on a chair and read the newspaper from yesterday. While he was reading the newspaper he made waving gestures with his left hand. Coffee beans were floating from a pot towards an old looking coffee machine. In the newspaper was an article about the new school opening. Several critics were talking about it, some in favor of the school, others were digusted by the idea. Alex didn't really mind, the officials wanted it, that was enough. "Goodmor... Holy shit what is this kind of wizardy??!" The other guy had woken up and was fully dressed now. Alex turned around "Well this is..." He wanted to say Aerokinetics but the guy had already left. His loss. In silence Alex ate his breakfast and drunk his coffee.

A quarter before the new teachers had to be in the conference room Alex arrived. Some other teachers were already seated. Alex was happy that the room had an open window. He put down his briefcase with all the stuff he needed and sat down on one of the chairs.
Alexander didn't really listen to Sylvia Taylor. He could retell what she had said, but that was it. After the lecture Alex looked around the group of teachers assembled. There was one cute guy sitting at the other side but that was it. Alex decided he would better get to his classroom and prepare for the lesson
