Fantasy Shifters Packs Divided

“For as long as anyone can remember the six great packs, Tigers, Lions, Cheetahs, Leopards, Wolves and the Misfits have been at war. Now, the reason for this war changes depending on who you ask. But the fighting still reins on till this day.”

The grey haired man coughed violently before staring out across the crackling orange flames as the young faces leaning in intently.

“We need... we need... strong leaders to keep us safe.” He mused his eyes falling on a dark skinned girl with long raven locks before quickly moving on.

“Grandpa?” The young girl asked.

“Yes, Kitten?”

“How does one know?... I mean how does one know their going to be Alpha?” She asked softly.

“When the day arises that we need a new Alpha the entire pack will know.” He coughed before falling silent.

Years would pass with only minor runs in with the other packs, little did they know of the storm that was brewing. In those years Kitten saw her Grandfather pass and rose to Alpha herself.

The raven haired female sat inside her bungalow tucked away in the dense jungle, maps upon maps lay sprawled on the desk. Her green eyes were worn as she sighed. “All these notes, all these diaries and I’m still no closer to knowing who rose to power now in the other Packs...”

“Still no closer to knowing where they are now, and where they stand on this foolish war...” Running a hand through her hair she pushed herself away from the desk.

Hunter lay on his side in the shade of a large rock, his tail swishing lazily behind him. While some might argue he was cold hearted he’d recently taken in a few more young cubs. While in a real pack this might not be heard of, he was desperate to grow his numbers.

He watched as the tiny cubs pranced about laughing as they tried to catch one another or on occasion his tail.

He’s thoughts drifted to the stories his Father and Grandfather had told him as a child. Just where are you now? He wondered staring up at the sun.

In her Cheetah form, Lilly patrolled the Cheetah Clan border that was shared with the Lion territory. Her unusual markings made her a rare cat. She was called a King Cheetah, which automatically made her a high rank in the Clan. Her own parents had been the Alpha pair. They had died in an accident when Lilly was a cub. The Beta had taken over until Lilly was of age to take up her role as Alpha of the Cheetah Clan.

Jay was napping in a tree. Again. He may have been the Leopard beta, but he wasn't really all for the stress of the rank. He could often be found dozing off in a tree, whether in his human or Leopard form. He loved to be where it was calm and quiet for a while before having to deal with the chaos of enforcing the Alpha's orders.

Hailey was having a rather peacful day, nothing too hectic occuring within her Pack. She didn't like this however, quickly growing bored of the lack of things to do. Some of her packmates were in their animal forms, others in human forms, as she watched their daily life from a tree. The Alpha herself wasn't in her animal form, as she had only discovered she could shift a year or so before joining the pack, which meant it admittedly still felt quite odd to be an animal. She enjoyed the perks that came with it - the strength, the speed... but it was still a preference to remain human.

Due to her sudden want to move around and do something, Hailey leapt down from the tree she had been previously resting in. Shifting mid-jump, the girl landed in her Jaguar form. She noticed a few of the pack members turn to locate the sudden heavy thud, as she hadn't exactly been in the most visible spot. The Alpha gave a silent nod to those who spotted her before slinking out of their main camp to patrol the borders. She didn't have much more to do, the daily patrols had been organised and sent already and no-one really needed her at the moment. If they did, they would catch up to her. The sleek Jaguar quickly went from a walk to a sprint, aching to release some energy so she could actually sleep tonight.

Jaylyn lay underneath of a tree in her Cheetah form. Not much was happening in camp, so she had the option to relax and rest. The sun was a bit bright for her liking, she preferred to stay in the shade today. She stretched her body out, opening her powerful jaws in a yawn before laying her head down onto her paws.

Her ears twitched when the occasional insect flew around her head. Pests. She despised bugs. Absolutely hated them. Why were bugs even created? They were useless!

Stepping outside Kitten could feel the boredom and uneasy ness of her pack mates hanging in the air. Heaving a sigh she glanced around her, while her pack might be small compared to packs of the past it was her home - her family.

Her amber eyes flickered around the pack for her betas, approaching them slowly and calmly she spoke softly. “Any news?” She asked referring to the morning scout trip.

The answer was almost always, “No.” or “Nothing unusual to report.”

But today wasn’t like other days.

Hunter glanced back at the cubs before shifting to stand. He gave his Beta a quick nod, one that normally meant he was going off on his own and for them to run things for a while.

Perhaps it was his boredom or something in the air, but things were about to spiral out of control.

Lilly returned to the Cheetah Clan camp after patrolling the area. She scanned the camp. Most of the males were busy at work mending or building, or expanding huts. There were many more Cubs this year than in previous years, so more living space was needed. Especially as the rambunctious Cubs grew.

The Alpha King Cheetah spotted Jaylyn looking bored. The other female had a pale coat about as rare as her own. Jaylyn was Leusictic and Lilly herself was more striped than spotted. Neither of them looked like the average Cheetah. Lilly padded over to Jaylyn. "You look bored, oh lovely snow-coat." Lilly said. Snow-coat was an old way of referring to a Leusictic or albino Cheetah that Lilly still used. "Would you care to run with me?" An offer to run with an Alpha was an honor, and would often help an individual rise in social ranks. Having a rare coat helped too. So Lilly wasn't sure why Jaylyn was as low ranked as she was. She should at least be a Delta.
----------------------------------------------------------
Jay finally leapt from his tree and padded back over to the rest of the Leopards. Perhaps he'd put on hunting duty today. Or at least training the older cubs.
