Super High School Level Idiot
The year is 1887. The location is the city of Happenstance, second in population and size only to the Big Apple itself. America, and Happenstance along with it, is enjoying the Gilded Age. A time dripping in opulence, extravagant spending, and elegance. At least, for the wealthy. The rest of the population is drowning in debt and corruption. Police forces are riddled with double agents, a new scandal hits the front pages every day, and it doesn’t seem to be getting better anytime soon.
It became the perfect time for a murderer to strike.
At first it’s inconspicuous, a dead prostitute found on occasion, hands and legs bound with the same knot- a clove hitch. But whomever it is has become more daring, and begun leaving clues at the sites, coded messages only a genius could figure out. With these inane scrawlings, the madman has rocketed themselves to national news.
They’re being called many things. The Happenstance Hacker. Butcher of the East Coast. Clove-Hitch Killer. But the one they’ve chosen for themselves is far more tasteful: The Magdalene.
Even with government agents and the entire Happenstance police force hot on this murderer’s heels, they’ve evaded capture. And with their most recent killing, they’ve issued a warning, written in the blood of the slaughtered police chief. Anybody who works on the case, anybody who thinks they can catch them better watch out.
The lead detective is stumped, and in an act of uncharacteristic desperation has reached out to people all over the globe, inviting everybody who may offer assistance to the city.
But The Magdalene is doing the same thing, and very soon Happenstance will be overrun with killers and cops, a melting pot of uncertainty and confusion. Only one thing is certain: Nobody is safe.
