Soul Mates

There was all but silence, only the sound of the rain pouring, not a dry inch between either of them. Standing nose-to-nose, their chests heaved as they puffed and panted, Scarlett’s breath hot against his face. Their eyes were locked and unwavering, the water dripping from their foreheads to their chins.

Cisco’s head was void of thought. His entire body, entire soul, was focused on what he had just experienced. He was frozen in time, like someone had pressed pause on the TV. Part of him was rocked in disbelief, the other part drowning in longing. The air had been taken out of him, and nothing could bring it back.

He didn’t know how much time had passed. The speaker had long since died in the rain; the fire now only smoking embers. He no longer knew if he was panting from the effort of their dance, or from the weight of the tension, like a rubber band that had been stretched to the hilt. His eyes searched over her face for a sign of something going to give, but found only his own dazed expression reflected back at him.

Scarlett’s lips moved first, trying hard to summon her voice, still too breathless to speak.

“You know,” she spoke, as soft and as gentle as her earlier fingers in his palm, "out of all the things I haven't done," her eyes batted their wet lashes, her hands pushing back her drenched hair, “the one thing I've wanted the most is to be kissed in the rain.”

Cisco’s shoulders dropped slightly, relaxing at her words. He remained still for a moment, still gazing into Scarlett’s endlessly green eyes, a new edge of adrenaline flowing around his body.

Slowly, tenderly, as if the woman in front of him was a mirage that might shatter if he moved too soon, he raised a hand to the side of her face. His thumb grazed over her cheekbone, droplets of water smudging beneath; his fingers grazing her ear. Her skin was hot to the touch, flushed under the cool of the rain.

He held onto the moment for as long as he could, their souls gazing into each other, touching each other in a way that was so deep, neither knew what to next expect.

Shakily, Cisco leaned in, pressing his mouth to hers. Her lips were sweet and soft, wet with rainwater but still better than he could have ever imagined. The quick pecks they had shared earlier were nothing compared to this. He groaned slightly at the release he had been chasing all night, his other hand moving to her waist, pulling her in closer again. Their lips moved slowly, savouring every second they could, her fingers entwining with his hair.

Cisco felt like he had just had his first high all over again, and with every kiss his desire deepened, their mouths growing more and more hungry. His hands holding her steady against him, he started to move, pushing her backwards until they collided with the wall of his house.

A smirk spread across his face as he pulled away from her for a split second, a hurried sorry managing to escape his lips, her hands still clinging desperately to him. His body pressed into hers, pinning her against the concrete, his mouth frantically searching for hers. Nothing, not all the forces of all the armies in the world, could pry him away from here.

No kiss could ever compare.

The world had melted around them. A glazed blur that didn't even matter anymore. It was just them. Francisco's gentle touch on her skin, pulling her deeper into her need. Precious moments passed as she savored the sensation of his warm touch against her skin. For what felt like forever they stood there, gazing into each others eyes.

When their lips finally connected, Scarletts eyes rolled to the back of her head. She could feel herself sink into him as his soft lips caressed hers so delicately. It was nothing she had ever experienced before. The way their lips moved together in unison. A perfect dance that floated with grace was their lips together. There was no fear or nervousness within her as his touch soothed her.

Scarletts soul reached out to him and his embraced her like two lovers after a decade apart. One hand drifted to her back, pulling her closer to him and she happily obliged, wanting nothing more than to exist within his embrace. Hands that once rested neatly by her sides now explores his shoulders, grazing past his neck and entwining in his drenched hair. The rain poured down on them and she didn't care. She didn't care about the hours it took to do her makeup and hair or the price tag of her now ruined dress.

All that mattered was this moment, this kiss. This passion that she felt for the first time in her life as their kiss deepened and developed, changing as their passion overtook them. Slowly making her fall further and further into the depths of emotion that Scarlett still couldn't decipher.

They moved. Slowly inching backward as Francisco guided her away from their spot in the thickness of the rain. Gently brushing up against the wall of his house. their passion too great to care about their destination but only caring about the tension twirling between them. The only time their lips parted was when they hit the wall. Her back firmly pressed against it as he smirked against her lips. A gently apology was uttered before his lips met hers again. This moment. This feeling. She could exist inside of it forever. Experience the raw emotions forever as every nerve in her body reached out to his passionate embrace.

Scarlett didn't even realize her fingers now twirling around his tie, gently pulling it away from him. The moment it was loose she slid it off of him, dropping the drenched fabric to the ground beside them. Her hands explored, moving toward the buttons of his shirt. It was instinctual. It was thoughtless. Only the desire in her heart drove her movements now.

Taylor Swift ft. Lana Del Rey

Snow On The Beach

Cisco felt Scarlett’s fingers wrestling with his tie, followed by the wet material dropping to the ground. He was driven by his own ache for her, and in turn, her own desire for him. His hands felt their way over her abdomen, down to the curve of her hips, his fingers absorbing as much of her as they could.

Kissing her no longer felt enough for him. He had never craved for something so deeply, so wildly. He was no longer being guided by any sense or reason – all rational thinking was long gone. All he knew, all he felt, was that he wanted to be completely absorbed by her, completely wrapped up in everything she was. Something within him told him this was right. All the money in the world couldn’t quell the lonely nights, yet Scarlett had medicated him in one.

As her dripping hands fell to the buttons of his shirt, he allowed himself to become undone, physically, and mentally. Soon she was peeling the drenched garment from him, disposing of it in the same carefree manner as the tie, his chest and back now exposed, the raindrops falling relentlessly on his bare skin. Placing a hand around the back of each of her thighs, he hoisted her up, her legs wrapping around his waist.

Despite her curves, she was dainty and slender, practically weightless. With the desperate determination Cisco currently possessed, he would have moved mountains if it meant getting closer to her.

Their fate for the evening already written, Cisco moved away from the wall, carrying her out of the rain and inside the house, their lips never separating. He entered the dining room, propping her on the edge of the dining table. Her skin on his felt like heaven – warm and soothing. Pulling his mouth away from hers was difficult, but as he crouched and started to undo the buckles of her platform boots, he pressed excited kisses down her knee. Every part of her was so smooth, her skin so bright – inch after inch of perfection.

To say she craved him was an understatement.

Scarlett hadn't experienced anything quite like this before. It wasn't lust. She had experienced lust before but this was more. Heavier, consuming her every breath. Every beat of her heart beat for him, screaming for him as it thudded in her chest. His lips pressed so softly against hers, yet so deeply, so sensually. Words could not accurately describe the heat that had run through her.

The dampness of her skin and clothes from the rain didn't affect her at all. Her skin was burning. Every touch erupted a new flame within her and rationality had flown through the window. Fingers clumsily fiddled with the buttons of his shirt. What normally was an easy task had become impossible. The biggest hurdle in the world as his lips consumed her mind. Her fingers were only an after thought. The buttons finally cooperated and exposed his skin. Gentle hands pulled the drenched material from him, plopping the shirt on the ground the very same was she did with the tie.

Nothing about this felt wrong. Despite them only knowing each other a short time, her skin felt as though it had known his for her whole life. The softness, the way his muscles bulged and dipped. It was all familiar yet so foreign to her. With souls and bodies entwined, Scarlett felt herself being lifted. there was no protest from her. Instead it felt like a sweet relief. The closeness of their bodies was exactly what she needed. No longer was she searching for that release, for that break in tension.

Scarletts legs instantly wrapped around him, hopefully making their journey into the house easier for him to manage. She knew she wasn't heavy but as any person would be, she wasn't exactly light. Yet he lifted her with ease and carried her into the house. Scar had never been fully in his house before, not that it mattered, so she didn't know the path that they were taking. The journey didn't matter to her. She was along for the ride no matter what.

It was like she hadn't ever fully breathed before Cisco. As if she was drowning and he had pulled her out. His kiss was a breath of fresh air. The heat of his body cocooned her like a warm blanket. Soft. Comfortable. He was a fairy tale come to life.

Scarlett didn't even realize that he had set her down until his lips left hers. Breathing normally was impossible. All she could do was practically pant as his hands trailed to her shoes, taking the wretched things off. The had enthusiastically passed the point of no return. Their scripts had been written.

One final gasp of fresh air entered her lungs as she allowed Francisco to take her soul. If she were ever without him, she wouldn't need it anymore.

Ellie couldn’t take her eyes off of Mr. Finch, who she now knew as *Castor*. Her eyes swept over his features, committing them to memory. This was the first time she had seen him up close because she’d only ever saw him in passing, walking the halls or walking past his classroom and peeking in to catch even just a simple glance at the new teacher. Though, he looked different up close, and she couldn’t help but get caught up in the way his eyes sparkled when he smiled or cute little gaps in between his teeth.

“The party is great, but I can't help noticing we're perhaps the youngest professors here?" The sound of his voice made Ellie tear her eyes away from his face and stare down at a crack in the marble counter top. Quickly the freckled brunette downed the remaining liquid at the bottom of her glass. Was it really that noticeable? That was a stupid question, of course it was. Ellie had always gotten comments on how young she looked for her age and they always followed with questions about her capabilities, but Ellie tried to not the those comments get to her head.

“Can I buy you a drink?"

The question pulled Eleanor out of her head. Slowly the girl nodded, turning her body away from Castor and towards the bar.

“I’ll have another glass of the Vampire sangria..” she told him, leaning on the bar with her elbows. She waited until they both had taken their first sips before she turned towards him, pulling her shawl closer to her body with a small smile pulling at the corners of her mouth.

“So.. *Castor*, you teach Biology right?” She asked raising an eyebrow.

“How are you liking it so far?” She took a sip of her sangria, hoping that she was doing this right—the small talk. Ellie had never been good at it, she much preferred digging deeper and seeing what lies beneath the exterior of a person.

Carmen’s heart sank down into her stomach but, Skylar was right. The paint and all the makeup would ruin the water and it was the only thing keeping her from crumbling into a million pieces, that and the loving gaze from her true love. Despite all the heart break from tonight, a small part of Carmen was excited. She couldn’t wait to start this next chapter with Skylar and actually be affectionate with her out in public. She didn’t have to worry about what her parents thought anymore. They already told her what they thought and even though it ended up exactly how she feared, she was hopeful. So, she couldn’t help the small smile from forming on to her lips.

“I love you, Skylar Kennedy.” She told her, rising up from the water to place her lips to her forehead, even with all the makeup.

“Go shower.. “ Carmen muttered reluctantly, not wanting the moment to end. But, she was exhausted and she would’ve done anything to have Skylar in her arms and fall asleep in her comfy bed.

Despite her protests, Carmen managed to convince Skylar to go shower with the promise of all the kisses and snuggles she could possibly give her. With Skylar gone, Carmen sank back and just laid there. She sat in the water until her fingers and toes had gone all pruny. Then and only then did she get out from the tub, grabbing the towel from the rack and wrapped it around her body. She didn’t bother with anything else after that, she was too exhausted to even think about lotion so, she threw up a random pj set and waltzed her way into Skylar’s room, throwing her self on the bed. Then, without warning and with damp hair, the red head fell asleep. Exhausted from the nights events, with out even bothering to get underneath the covers.

A gentle sigh escaped Skylars lips.

Carmens gentle kiss soothed her soul. It was what she had been waiting for for a long time. All those minutes without Carmen had been torture and now that she was back into her life, Skys heart was slowly repairing itself.

"I love you Carmen. I love you so much." Skylar stood from her spot and planted several small kisses on the top of her lovers head before finally agreeing to go and shower. Skylar double checked to make sure that there was fresh towels for Carmen for whenever she decided to get out of the bath then retreated to her own personal bathroom. She gently closed the door, leaving it slightly open in case Carmen was done her bath before Skylar was finished.

The warm water was a release for Sky. The dramas of the day washed down the drain and Skylar could finally fully feel her emotions. Happy, sad, confused, all of the emotions hit her at the same time. There was still so much that had to be done before Carmen and Skylar could finally drift into their relationship fully. Not only did Skylar have to make sure that Carmen was all set up. There wasn't a single luxury that her parents would take from her without there being a replacement or better. Sky wouldn't let them win that fight.

But there was also the matter of Isaac. The boyfriend that she was leaving behind without a word. Of course Skylar could send someone to retrieve her car but after all that she had been through she felt it callous to just disappear from some ones life without a trace like that. That was not the person she wanted to be. Not the kind of person that deserved the happiness that Carmen brought Skylar.

Sky leaned against the cool tile of her shower and let the water run down her body. The makeup she wore slowly washed away until there was all but a few pieces that stubbornly remained. She washed her face fully and rinsed off. Confusion bubbling through her as she tried to decide what her next course of action would be. At the very least she should send a text, right? Yes. A text will be fine, she decided. It was a warning and also a goodbye.

Once she was clean, Skylar shut the water off and wrapped herself in a towel, letting the water remaining on her body drip onto the bathmat. She gently dried herself and pulled on her bathrobe before walking out to her bedroom. Carmen was asleep in her bed. It brought a smile to her face seeing the exhausted girl asleep in front of her. Sky leaned against the doorway and watched for a moment. Savoring every second of the girls chest rising and falling as she slept.

Whatever good Skylar must have done to deserve this, it must have been a miracle. Slowly and cautiously Skylar covered Carmen with a blanket and slid into the bed next to her. She pulled the girl closer to her, wrapping her arms around the sleeping beauty and closed her eyes. It was a dream come true to finally have Carmen.

TL;DR Heather goes to a halloween party
tl;dr
Heather
I just got here so I've gotta show some face

Halloween was one of Heather Paige's favorite holidays. It allowed her to show of her off her modeling and sewing skills. This year Heather was making an elaborate angel costume. Last year she had sewn her own Super Girl costume and gone with some of her Parisian friends toa major party. Today Heather was hoping to draw eyes with her massive wings and gorgeous white dress. The wings reached almost to the floor and were quite reminiscent of the wings of a Victoria's Secret angel. Heather wasn't planning on being an underwear model but Victoria Secret angels were some of the most famous models in the world, the level of fame Heather would hope to achieve one day.

Heather had been slaving over her costume for weeks, making sure every detail, every seam was absolutely perfect. The hardest part was making the wings. The structural supports and feathers all had to be handcrafted from scratch. She almost didn't make the deadline; the biggest Halloween party in town. It didn't help that she was slightly...distracted. Over the past few weeks Heather had been communicating more and more with Hunter. He was funny and cool and unlike anyone she had ever met before. He wasn't from the same world she hailed from, he wasn't....high society for lack of a better term. He was worldly and that was far more interesting than the normal people Heather hung out with. Far less stuck up too.

Finally the day of the party arrived and everything was perfect for her costume. She looked absolutely breathtaking and was sure to be a showstopper. She couldn't wait for people to ask her where she got her costume and to proudly tell them she made it herself. She was ready to make a dramatic entrance. She even hired a limo so people could see her arriving in style.

Heather's white heels clicked on the pavement as she exited the limo and headed towards the party. Drunken people hung around the lawn of the party in a wide variety of costumes, heads turning as she passed them. A smirk rose to her face. She was hot and she knew it. She immediately headed for where the drinks were being stashed so the she could walk through the party and be seen. She heard some audible gasps along the way and that only served to widen the girl's smile. She would become the talk of the party at this rate.

As Heather took a sip of her freshly poured drink she took a look around to observe the party. No one's costume even compared to hers. The more she looked, the more she noticed that people were heavily paired and or grouped up. Her heart sank a little and she felt a gnawing emptiness deep inside. Sure she was grabbing people's attention with her almost too big wings but it was merely a passing interest. People were more caught up in their own business of making out or talking with friends to be bothered with her. It took a moment of pondering with a frown heavily resting on her face, giving Heather a massive RBF, but she eventually figured out what the pit in her stomach was; loneliness. It seemed everyone at this party had someone, either a date or friends with them, but Heather had no one, as per usual.

Loneliness wasn't a new feeling for Heather, she had felt that most of her life, but it felt different ever since she started being friends with Hunter. Her other friendships all seemed...shallow and meaningless, but Hunter seemed to genuinely be interested in her as a person. It was different and made her feel a genuine connection with someone for once, and now without him here she felt this terrible loneliness that was even beginning to physically hurt her chest. What was the point of getting the attention of random people when there were those whose opinions actually mattered?

Hunter didn't know why he decided to go to the Halloween party. The big crowed situations weren't really his thing, but his friend had invited him and he felt like he had an obligation to go, even if he couldn't afford a costume. Thanks to the leftover spray paint in his van though, he was able to whip up a quick "costume", though that was definitely not the word for it. Spray paint that quite literally says the word "costume" on a t shirt definitely wasn't a costume. But it was clever enough for him.
Pulling his van up to the club, he watched for a moment as all the lights flashed around. He could practically feel the bass vibrating through the ground as he stepped out. His anxiety was already spiking, and who knows if his friend ditched already. He had no clue but he knew what would help, a joint. A joint would definitely help chill him out. Leaning his back against the car door, he lit one up and took a long drag, watching as people wandered in and out of the building. Some sober and helping their friends, some obliterated enough that they were probably going to regret it in the morning. Either way he had no intentions of being the obliterated one.
When the joint was officially gone and he was zooted enough to handle the environment he was placing himself in, the man chucked the roach into the ashtray in his van, and finally began to make his way inside. Instantly he knew he would have the worst headache in the morning. Not from drinking, no... But from the bass of the music rattling his bones. God, why did he come?
Not being the tallest person in the room, Hunter tried his best to peak over the crowd, his eyes searching for at least one familiar face. That is, until he got a face full of feathers. Shutter shocked from the sudden impact, Hunter turned to find Heather standing there in a costume that totally would've made him faint if he were sober, "holy shiiiit you look so good!" He said loud enough over the music so she could hear, "sorry about face planting into your wings, usually angels are the ones who are supposed to fall from heaven. Not us mere men falling into the angels." Wow, lamest joke of the year award goes to... Hunter!!!

Internally criticizing himself for the comment, Hunter stepped close and pulled her into a hug. He was confident enough she wouldn't mind. He'd been enjoying talking to her and spending time with her. And lowkey developing feelings for her but he was a drifter... Never staying one place long enough to find out what feelings really were. It just wasn't who he was. But there was something that drew him to Heather. Maybe it was that they were from completely different worlds? She was a socialite and he was a bum who lived in his van. They didn't have much in common, at least not on paper. But it was fun, telling her about things he's done and places he's seen, "how long are you staying for?" He asked, hoping she wouldn't want to stay long because now he had no hope in finding his friend.

    Maddox Hadden

Maddox wasn't expecting to have an adventure today but she was in the middle of one. It started when her sister, Scarlett left earlier that afternoon. She was going out, it was Halloween her holiday. Maddox was the opposite, yes she looked like someone who loved Halloween and everything about it. And she does but hated the people and the crowds so on the day that Scarlett let herself out and had fun. She on the other hand took this date to stay inside and hide as she watched scary movies on repeat. So when she got the call from the front door and heard Stella, she wasn't expecting that. She also wasn't expecting to get kidnapped by the girl.

"Stella, this better be good. Micheal was just about to commit another murder. " She told her as she paused Halloween. She did hear the beeping and the calling of her name but she was too in the blood and gore of the movie. She quickly gets dressed and locks the door behind her as she walks out. Heading downstairs, and opened the apartment door coming face to face with Stella. This girl was something of a mystery for Maddox. For no reason, they should be friends or even run in the same circle. She looked at her and smirked. "Stella, again this better be good. I'm missing out on my Halloween movie blood and gore. " She told her softly as she walked out more into the outside.

"Cops? Oh, this sounds like fun. Count me in. I don't think I'll have much of a choice but I thought verbal communication. " She told her as she walked out to where Stella pulled her to a car...that was definitely not hers. "....You stole a car. " She mutters as she smiles. Normally people would be not ok with the situation. "Well, we can't let this chance go to waste yea?" Maddox said as she raised an eyebrow to her.

Maddox was up for an adventure.

Stella drove a few miles out of town, up to the next beach. The sun had already set, and when they rolled up to the end of the concrete road, they were the only ones around. Stella leapt out of the vehicle.

“Nobody comes to the beach at night-time.” She commented, setting off for the sand dunes ahead of them, hoping Maddox would follow.

She enjoyed the girl’s company because she didn’t ask too many questions. She rarely asked any. There was no underhanded comments, no Stella, that’s dangerous or Stella, what if we get caught?. She could be comfortably left to make her own decisions, follow her own judgement, act on her own desires, without anybody thinking they knew better.

In truth, there was something else about Maddox that drew Stella in. It wasn’t the same feeling she got with other people. She didn’t know what it was, but she felt sort of… calm. The racing in her mind stopped. The anger she so often felt was quelled. For the brief periods they spent together, their was silence.

The same silence echoed out across the sand bank. Stella stood at the top, triumphant, lighting a cigarette as she watched the sky overhead.

“I guess it’s nice to slow down for a second. Just sometimes.”

"Putain de merde stupide. Allez!"

It was pouring. Absolutely pouring as Scarlett turned the key to the egnition of her car again, praying that it will turn over. Another sputter and nothing. Everything in her wanted to scream. She was stranded in the parking lot of her work with a car that doesn't like to start on a good day. Perhaps Francisco had been right about getting a more reliable car.

Defeated, Scarlett placed her forehead on the steering wheel and closed her eyes. She would have to walk through the buckets of rain again to get back into the club to wait out the rain. Even the walk to the car had proved to drench her. Her hair was dripping and her large oversized sweater clung to her skin. Scarlett let out a sigh and reached for her phone. Perhaps Francisco could pick her up?

Ever since Halloween Scarlett and Francisco had been growing closer, trying to see each other any time that they could. Any extended time away from him seemed to just drag on for Scarlett and from what she understood - especially after his birthday party - he felt the same way. What strange, undiscovered emotions his touch seemed to bring her. Every time their eyes met Scarlett could feel a warmth flow through her and a pure happiness set in. It was unlike anything she had ever experienced before and she couldn't seem to get enough of it. They didn't even have to do anything. Just existing with him seemed to do the trick for her. She only wished she could understand what exactly it was that he did to her.

A quick chat with Francisco and Scarletts shoulders could relax a little. Although she wasn't crazy about him driving to get her in this weather she didn't really have much of a choice. He insisted that she waited in the club so Scarlett popped open the door of her car. Immediately rain started falling in on her. Scar slipped out of her seat and reached into the car to grab her duffel bag, not wanting to leave it behind. As she did so a huge wave of water hit her right up the back. Someone had sped by, hitting a puddle and absolutely demolished her with the puddle water. As if this day could get any worse. The inside of her car was ruined, her hair was beyond repair and the water was now seeping into her underwear.

Scarlett grabbed her duffel bag and slammed the door of her car. She was already drenched so there wasn't any point in hurrying now, right? As Scar approached the club a familiar voice called out to her.

"Scarlette ? Est-ce vous?" Alex's voice pierced through the rain behind her. Scar turned and there he was in his car, passenger side window rolled down and his body scrunched so he could see her.

"Oui! Ma voiture ne démarre pas!" She yelled back to him, walking toward his car now. "J'attends mon tour !"

Alex shook his head, "No. No get in. I drive you home. Is too wet outside, oui?"

Just like that Scarlett was inside of his car. Alex turned up the warm air and smiled over at Scarlett, "you poor thing. Look at you. Drenched from toe to head." He let out a small laugh and put his car into drive, pulling out of the parking lot.

It was raining. Hard. And Owen had been thinking about what his therapist had told him during his last visit. A lot. In order for yourself to heal, you must first heal your inflicted wounds. That sentence had continued to haunt him, floating around his head over and over again. But where was he supposed to start? Who had he hurt the most? And then it hit him. How could he have been so cruel to the woman who was carrying his child? He had flat out told her to get rid of it the last time they had texted each other. That had been back then. It was now November. It was her birthday, too. But what if she didn't want to see him again? Cain was way more of a man than he had ever been and probably would ever be. He was the one who had stepped up when Owen stubbornly refused to. What if he had made things worse by going off of the radar this past month? After Burning Woman, he had deactivated all of his social media profiles, barely even picking up his phone in the time that he had been laying low. Instead, he had been picking up extra shifts at the restaurant and going to therapy in order to better himself. The less drama that he got himself into, the better. He saw his therapist every Wednesday, often spending money he didn't have to spend more time in his office. And Dr. Hill had encouraged him to be the best that he could possibly be. But sometimes, it was just so goddamn hard to. Sure, he hadn't been sleeping with anyone, not even Emma. No matter how many times he had been tempted into it, he had resisted, even if it killed him inside every single time.

He had been moping around his beachside house as the storm brewed outside. The waves were thrashing about, much like his guilt and denial within himself. The weather was far too dangerous far him to go out in, but Owen decided to throw caution to the wind and drive headfirst into the storm. He had to see Emily and tell her just how he felt. He wanted to be there for her and the baby. He had to be. Hell, his own father had walked out on his mother before he was born. And he knew how hard his life had been growing up. Owen could never imagine putting his future son or daughter through that. And Emily had to be certain of that. He had to make her realize that he couldn't just do the selfish thing and walk away from something so good. His therapy sessions had been paying off. Dr. Hill had gotten him to make that breakthrough on his own. Now all he had to do was show Emily that he was man enough to be there for her - no, both of them. The wind slammed the screen door shut as he went out into the pouring, freezing rain to his car. It chilled him to the bone, but he would have to push through that. And off he went, bravely weathering the storm in his Cadillac. Some sad song echoed through his radio, ringing through his ears. The woman's voice was so hauntingly beautiful, and the lyrics cut through like a knife through his heart. "But when it comes to being lucky, he's cursed..." When did he turn this melodramatic crap on, anyway? It wasn't like the usual stuff he listened to, but deep down, he was into it. Anyway...

The rain kept pouring down as he pulled into Emily's driveway. He was getting soaked as he went up to her door, knocking away. She had to answer. She just had to. Could she hear him over the storm raging outside? What if she wasn't home? Was he just wasting his time getting soaked? A million questions raced through his mind as he stood there. God, was he making a fool out of himself now. What made him think that she was willing to hear him out?

"Perfect. Fucking perfect."

Danielle walked through the halls of her home, her sneakers squishing in the ankle deep water as her shoes and socks filled with disgusting ground water. Luckily most of her equipment was still safely locked away in their cases so she wouldn't be at too big of a loss. The gig from the night before and the laziness of the tired girl had proved to be a partial life saver in this case. Still there would be many things lost in this flood, she could feel it.

Water was still dripping in from her ceiling, making soft splashing noises as it hit the water below. It may as well had been raining inside of her house at this point. Danielle Hastily packed herself a bag so she could get out of her apartment as soon as possible. The weather wasn't getting any better and her place definitely wasn't safe for her to stay in anymore. the duffel bag that she originally intended to bring for the trip was soaked but she grabbed that one as well anyway just in case.

Not that it would matter anyway. The moment Danielle left her house she was drenched. The streets were just puddles at this point. "Are you fucking kidding me?" She exclaimed as she hurriedly climbed into her truck. Thankfully she had recently gotten maintenance done so it was unlikely something would happen to her truck. Well. Unless this storm got any worse.

The drive to Quentins normally wasn't too long but because of the water and debris it took ages. She was hours later than she originally intended and the rain didn't show any signs of letting up any time soon. Danielle pulled into her normal spot by Quentins apartment and grabbed her bags out of the passenger seat. A flash of lightning brightened the sky and a rip of thunder crackled as she slid out of her car and slammed the door shut. There was no point in running for the door now as she was dripping anyway. Danielle carefully made her way toward the entrance of the apartment, avoiding the debris that scattered the ground.

The whipping wind chilled her to her bones and opening the door to the apartment building was a sweet relief. Finally out of the rain, Danielle slicked her wet hair out of her face and climbed the stairs toward Quentins apartment. She stopped in front of his door and set her bags down before knocking on the door. Danielle was on the verge of tears when Quentin opened the door. Once she was greeted and let in Danielle grabbed her soaked bags and carried them in, they dripped on his clean floor as she walked deeper into his apartment.

"I'm so sorry I'm late I..." Danielle couldn't hold it back anymore, warm tears rolled down her cheeks, warming up her wind whipped skin. "I forgot my bag and... Oh Quentin my house it's... I'm going to lose everything. There's water everywhere."

Sienna Haven
cara%25201.gif

The last thing Sienna had expected with her life on this already terrible day, was to walk in to her apartment to see Claire's shoes on the floor and moans coming from Oceanna's room. The rain had been pouring down hard already, and she had no doubt that Claire and Oce probably expected Sie to get caught up at the studio in the storm. It was where she spent most of her time anyway, so they probably thought they had time. Well, here Sie was, standing in the front entry hallway hearing unbearable sounds from down the hall. She wanted to throw up, pass away, or cease to exist because the thought of Oce in her room with Claire was enough to give Sie nightmares.
When had this affair started? Had they always been hiding away from Sienna? Didn't Claire have a fucking boyfriend? So many thoughts ran through Sie's mind as she was frozen in the hallway, chilled to the bone from both the rain she had ran through and the new discovery she had made. Completely and utterly disgusted, Sie pulled her rain boots and coat back on to leave. She couldn't be here in the same apartment with them. Not with the sounds echoing throughout the space.

She had no clue where she was going to go, but when she got into her car, away from the horror's of the apartment, the realization finally hit. Her best friend was sleeping with one of the people who Sie hated most. Hot tears burned Sie's eyes as she put the car in drive and sped away from the apartment complex. Where would she go now? She couldn't go to her dads house, or Gabes, and her mom was in a completely different state. Claire and Oceanna had officially taken away Sienna's safe space. Her home.
Using her already rain dampened sleeve to wipe away her tears, Sie had no clue where her brain was taking her in this rain, but it was somewhere. Cyrus' shop. She only took a moment to somewhat compose herself as she watched the sign outside glow against the dark rain. She hoped no one was inside as she turned the car off and stepped outside in the whipping wind. Unlocking the door, the girl could see a low glow of some candles inside. She had left only an hour ago when the power first went out within the town. There had been no reason for her to be at work then. But now she needed a place to hide. To be away from her home.
"Hey Cy, it's just me." She said from the entryway, her tone slightly broken as she kicked off her soaked rubber boots and pulled off her jacket. The wind had been so strong that even though she had been covered, her hair and clothes were soaked through. The plastic clothing had done nothing. But it was a good thing she kept spares of everything at the studio. So she made her way to her little room and pulled the curtain shut to change in to some sweatpants and a large hoodie. The warmth of the new clothes were already warming her up.
Defeated, she took a seat in her artist chair and buried her face in her hands. She wanted to cry and scream. The one person she trusted in the world completely betrayed her. She had no one. Nothing. She felt the tears again and grabbed a piece of paper towel to dry them. She didn't care if she was using her supplies at the moment. She didn't care about anything at the moment. She just felt broken.

Luca Giovanni

Luca didn't know what number this shot was... Maybe the 10th? 13th? He lost count after 5 and the alcohol was disorienting his brain. Weeks ago Ophelia stopped answering his texts. And that wasn't what they did or who they were. All they usually had to do to get each other into their beds was snap their fingers. But here he was, pining over her to even just read his messages. And she wasn't. And he didn't know why it bothered him so much. But here he was, wasted as fuck, in his room alone, and trying to tell himself he was way too drunk to go over to her house during this storm to demand she talk to him.
He fucked up big time. But she knew kissing wasn't his thing. Though he never gave her a proper answer as to why he didn't, he never thought it was her business to know in the first place. He saw how love ruined his parents, and how their divorce and fighting fucked him up. Hell, his mom even packed up him and moved to the states to get as far away from his dad as she could. Love ruined everything. And maybe it was TV or even just seeing his friends ruin themselves over it but kissing, at least in his mind, lead to feelings. Then of course feelings led to love, and love led to sadness. He couldn't hurt himself that way, to ruin everything he worked so hard to avoid. But then there was something about Ophelia that wrecked him even without kissing her.
So before he knew it, he had his keys in hand and was zooming over to her house. If he were to get pulled over right now, he'd 100% get a DUI or worse but at least the cops in town would be distracted with other duties this storm brought than to worry about some drunken idiot on the road. Parking very crookedly in the girls driveway, Luca hopped out and made his way up to the door, banging his fist against it. When there was no answer, he began to ring the doorbell over and over again until finally it opened and there she was. Now that he was here, he had no clue what to say. Even when she was in her relaxed clothes with hardly any to no makeup she was so goddamn beautiful.
Finally he slurred it out, "I'm sorry." He told her, leaning against the door frame to keep himself from falling into the bushes. His clothes were already soaked just from the trek from his car to her door. And he could feel the chill of the rain coursing through him but the warm buzz of the alcohol was keeping him from completely freezing up, "I'm fucking sorry okay?" He said again, though still too scared to admit his reasoning for not kissing her. But standing here now, he wanted nothing more than to kiss her.

So, without another word and before she could completely slam the door in his face, he stepped into the house, pulled her close, and crashed his lips to hers. It was pathetic really, with how drunk he was. But he wanted her to know that he wasn't scared to kiss her anymore. Sure, what comes after; the talking, the love, and possible hurt, scared the shit out of him. But he wanted to kiss her. Even if it took her completely ghosting him to realize it.

Zuri Alvarez

Zuri smiled at Aure's face on her phone screen. She'd been talking to him on and off since Halloween, and even though she promised herself she wouldn't catch feelings, her walls toward him were slowly crumbling. Her plan to demolish him were completely failing and she couldn't help but get butterflies every time they talked. But she was busy a lot of the time with her own work so all she had time for were little FaceTime dates and texting back and forth. She hated that she craved talking to him or how he made her feel.
"I think the storm is getting pretty bad." She said to him, rolling off her bed to go look out the window. She read on Twitter that the storm was going to be bad, but she didn't know it was going to be this bad. Outside the rain was coming down hard and the wind was making her apartment creak. She'd have no doubt that the first floor would be dealing with a flooding issue. Thanks to her brother though she had the penthouse. Zuri flinched away from the window when a branch flew by, and just then the power in her apartment went out. From the looks of it actually, all signs of light within the town went out.
On the phone screen, she could see that Aure's power seemed to be out too and she couldn't help but frown as she brought her phone along with her to look for some candles, "do you have everything there that you need?" She asked, concerned. Stupid her for being concerned. After balancing all the candles she owned along with her phone, she began to set them all up so that her apartment would have enough light, "if you wanna brave the storm I got lots of food, water, and candles here..." She offered before plopping down on the couch holding up the phone to see his face again.
Even the few minutes it had taken her to set up the candles she had missed his face. Ugh. Why did he have to be so charming? "Obviously I can't cook anything but I gotta pizza in the fridge and some snacks." She offered again, despite her brain telling her to stop. He hurt her. Badly. But that was years ago... But he still hurt her. Pulling her blanket over her legs, she leaned back into the couch and waited for his answer. God, she hoped he would come over. No she didn't. Okay yeah, she did.

Emily Charter
05a30462c7f42049bb89a53f5d5f17a61536f8f0.gif

Emily was happy for the first time in a long time. With her new house, her new boyfriend who meant the world to her, all her friends back in her life, and baby growing strong in her belly, there was really nothing she had to worry about. Except the fact she knew Cain was stuck at work and she was home alone during a hurricane and the power was out. Luckily there were enough people checking in on her to make sure she was okay, had enough food and water. And thanks to her Bath and Body Works candle collection and abundance of blankets, she was cozy and safe.
The only thing that truly bugged her, in the back of her mind, was that she had no clue what was going on with Owen. Sure, she hated him with every fiber of her being, but he was still the father of her baby and she had zero clue where he was, what he was doing, or if he was even alive. He'd gone completely silent on socials and she didn't want herself to care enough to check in at his workplace. That would mean he won, that he still owned a piece of her heart, and she refused to acknowledge that. She had everyone she cared about in her life again and that was all she needed. She was healing.
That is, until she heard the doorbell. Who would be coming to her house in the middle of the storm? Curiously, she walked through the candle lit house to the front door. Peaking out the peep hole, she saw him there in the rain. Part of her contemplated leaving him there in the rain... If she opened the door, there was a possibility he was just here to hurt her again. To ask her to get rid of the baby again, or even do something terrible. The possibility of him hurting her again made her hesitate. She could just not open the door and pretend he was never there. But then there was the part of her heart that he owned that screamed at her to open the door.
And that part won. Slowly, she unlocked the door and opened it up, stepping aside for him to get out of the rain. She didn't know what to say to him. Why had she opened the door? Eyes tearing up, she closed it behind him and leaned against the door, crossing her arms over her stomach as if to protect the baby from him or whatever he had to say, "I'm not getting rid of it... So if you came here to ask me to you're wasting your breath." She said quietly. If he hadn't been listening, the roar from the wind outside and creaking of rain hitting the house could have easily masked her words. She couldn't even look at him as she waited for him to throw whatever slander she knew he was capable of her way. Why did she open the goddamn door?

Aiden had his list. He had his girl. His mother had set it out with a mission and he was on a time limit. So, he sped over to Brittany house and scooped her up, with her bags in tow, so they could stay together until the storm blew over. The wind had already started to pick up and sky began darkening as they pulled up into the parking lot of the grocery store.

Quickly, he jogged over to Brittany’s side and opened the door up for her. Then, he held out his for her to take. Softly, he tugged the girl towards the automatic doors and stepped through, shivering from the light drizzle that has seeping into his clothes. Aiden grabbed his list and a pen from where be safely tucked it away from the rain and skimmed his eyes down the list.

“Can you grab a cart for me, love?” He asked. He was trying to get this over with, so he could be back home and have Brittany in his arms, tucked safely away from the raging winds outside. The light drizzle was no more. Now, you could hear the rain pounding down on the roof of the store.

“Alright, feel free to put whatever in the cart.” He quickly told Brittany, pressing his lips to her cheek before he started his decent down the aisle, throwing in whatever he deemed necessary for the survival of the storm. He didn’t know how much he would need so he got two of everything.

Despite the looming storm, he was having fun. Every time they hung out. He always had a blast with the love of his life. Aiden’s heart swelled with affection making him want to feel her soft lips. Stopping in his tracks, he turned toward the brunette with his lips puckered up and his arms outstretched. It wasn’t until he had his hands on her hips that he noticed something was wrong. Her forehead was clammy and her skin was pale.

“Britt?” He asked, his eyes furrowed together in confusion and anxiety. “What’s wrong my love?”

Without a second word, Brittany pulled away and made a mad dash for the restroom. Aiden abandoned his nearly full cart and chased after her, running into the bathroom with out caring that it was the women’s room. Brittany frantically pushed up the stall door and gagged into the toilet. Aiden held her gathered her hair up and held it as she spewed her guts out.

“Britt.. are you okay?” Straightening up, he made a beeline for a paper towel and then wiped her mouth.

“Oh god, Bri.. let’s get you home.“

Aiden helped Brittany back to the car. Thankfully the rain has let up a little bit so they could get there with out being soaked. Then, he rushed back into the store and grabbed the remaining items on the list, paid for it and loaded it up in the car.

Aiden lead Brittany up the stairs to his apartment and sat her down on the couch. He pressed his lips to her forehead before he began bringing the groceries into the bakery, putting cold things into the refrigerator before he rushed back to Brittany’s side. She wasn’t on the couch where he had left her. Instead she found her in his bathroom, sprawled over the edge of the toilet. Tentatively, he stepped over to her.

“What have you eaten today?”

    Maddox Hadden

Maddox stood in front of the door in front of her. She didn't remember driving here, all she remembered was waiting for her dad to get to her apartment as the storm raged on. After an hour, she grew worried and tried to call him but the calls never went through, until she was called from the hospital. Her father had been in an accident...and they were pretty sure that he wasn't going to make it. It was like her heart stopped, her world stopped. All that mattered was that she was going to be an orphan now. A true orphan now. She didn't know how to handle the news, so she ran out. Got in her car, and just drove.

Going to the hospital was too much for her right now, to see her father connected to all those machines and knowing that they weren't going to save him. Maddox thought to maybe go and find Scarlett, or go to her parents' house but she couldn't. She didn't want to burden her, or anyone else with her broken self. As she drove, she tried to see where she could go, and that's how she ended up here. Stella had become a sort of comfort, after that night on Halloween. Maddox felt drawn to her, like she brought warmth back into her body. And warmth was something that she needed right now.

Maddox knocks on the door softly. Her eyes were dry, and she wasn't crying but her heart wasn't in her chest anymore. She knocks on the door again as she breathes in and out heavily. "Stella? Are you there? I got..bored at the house and decided to come see you. " Maddox said through the door, trying to hide the pain in her voice. She didn't want anyone to know how broken she was. How much her heart hurt right now. She knows she can't feel pain, but right now...she felt it.

“You expectin’ someone, El?”
Home was a feeling that Ryan wasn’t used to. The warmth of blankets, the safety of walls, the hum of a lover’s lips against his skin, it all felt so foreign to the point that Ryan felt strange at first. It took him a few weeks to adjust to the idea that Eloise would be there when he returned to the apartment, there to welcome him into the space — their space — that he now called home.

It took him a while, indeed, but he could get used to this feeling: the fuzziness, the comforting embrace, the melodic lullabies.

Ryan had been working overtime in the weeks since Eloise became his, trying to get as much money saved up as possible. The man who had never thought more than five minutes ahead was busy in his mind building a future out of dreams as vivid as paintings: a house decorated by Eloise (he loved how she made the place feel fun and inviting), a secure position at the shop, a couple of rescue animals to keep Pumpkin company, coffee on the porch, road trips on the back of his motorcycle, dark hairs eventually turning gray with age and the passage of time, wrinkles settling on skin that still managed to be as breathtakingly beautiful as the day he met her.

For the first time in his life, Ryan had something to live for. The money in his pockets, although limited for now, would be used to design this future that he had captured in his mind. The jokes from his lips were no longer coping mechanisms to keep the darkness from swallowing him whole, they were for bringing out that gorgeous smile. The energy had returned, a lust for life surging through his veins like liquid fire, and it was all because of Eloise. Everything was for her.

And so Ryan had been working overtime, been paying more attention to his behaviour, had been protecting the peace that Eloise gave him and taught him to love. His muscles ached, his mind begged for a break of the grind of repairing brakes and replacing tires, yet his soul begged to stay, begged for the normalcy, if it meant that Eloise would be there with him.

The day of the storm had been no different. Ryan got there early to open the shop and spent the morning beating away at metal and covering his skin with oil and grease, minding his business until the thick clouds and rain and howling winds closed the business for the day.

Ryan hopped on his bike and made his way home in the downpour, beads of water pelting off his helmet and leather jacket. By the time he pulled into the parking lot, his dark coveralls were clinging to his skin and weighing down his body like an anchor.

Stepping through the front door, a sleepy meow echoed out to welcome him in. Pumpkin slinked around the corner, her thick fur puffed up in a wicked fit of bed head, eager for attention.

“Shoo,” Ryan laughed warmly, “I’m gonna get you covered in dirt. Go, go find mama.”

Eloise. Ryan beamed as he tugged off his work boots in a frenzy and pulled the coveralls off in the bathroom to minimize the mess. Mostly dry and almost free from grime, Ryan waddled his way into the living room in his socks, underwear, and a dark tee shirt, careful not to slip on the puddle he’d accidentally left in the entryway.

“Hey gorgeous,” Ryan chirped as he placed a kiss on the top of Eloise’s head, “I’m glad you’re not out in that storm, it’s fuckin’ wicked out there.”
Ryan moved to flop down beside Eloise on the couch, wrapping his arm around her shoulders while his other hand reaches out to the pile of unopened mail on the coffee table.

Piece by piece, Ryan flipped through the pages on his lap. Some junk mail, bills that demanded payment, coupons for his favourite pizza place… a yellow post-it-note, crumpled up and stained with use and the smudge of blue ink, the edge folded over and a piece of tape that had since lost its stickiness stuck to the top.

Be back later

Ryan’s brow furrowed as he handed Eloise the note. Assuming that it had fallen off the door and into the mail that had been delivered at the bottom of the door.

“You expectin’ someone, El?” Ryan asked with genuineness, his brow still furrowed.

Did he recognize that handwriting, messy and smudged by the left hand that had guided the pen?

The Broken One

Britt

Aiden, the toilet

So far Britts day had been awful.

The first thing she did that morning was run to the bathroom, puking up everything in her stomach. She chalked it up, of course, to just something not sitting right in her stomach because the rest of the day she didn't feel too strong of an urge to puke. throughout the day she was a little nauseous so she took an antinauseant and laid down until Aiden came by to pick her up. By then she wasn't feeling too bad anymore. It must have been something she ate the night before.

Before Aiden arrived, Brittany made herself a sandwich and absolutely inhaled it. Her stomach didn't seem to be too bad anymore so she was comfortable just brushing her morning off as nothing. Aiden picked her up and they went to the grocery store to pick up some things for their little sleepover. It was drizzling when they got to the grocery store. The cold was a nice feeling against Brittany's skin as she had been feeling warm all day.

Aiden asked for a cart and Brittany nodded, bouncing away to find a cart for them to use. As much as she had been having a terrible day, she was always happy to spend time with Aiden. Everything was just easier with him beside her. Like there wasn't anything that they couldn't do as long as they were together. The rain was pouring harder as she walked past the front door to grab the cart. She could see distant cracks of lightning in the sky and hear the gentle rumble of the thunder. The storm would be there soon so they definitely had to hurry.

Britt rushed back to Aiden, just in time for him to start plopping things into the cart. Brittany smiled as Aiden kissed her cheek and took off down the aisle with the cart. She followed him, occasionally stopping to grab a small snack. She suddenly had an intense craving for some of that fancy cheese at the deli so when they passed it she stopped and picked up a package. Bri looked up at the meats on display and instantly felt ill. The scent of the meat threw a wrench in her gut and she could feel her stomach flip. Hopefully if she just walked away that feeling would go away, right?

Wrong. The duo walked two aisles away and Britts stomach was still curdling. She could feel the blood rush away from her skin and a cold sweat took over her body. It was Aidens gentle touch that sent her over the edge. Normally she would be ecstatic for him to touch her but she was focusing so hard on not throwing up that the brief distraction pushed her into the nausea. Her world spun around and Britt dropped the package of cheese into the cart before darting toward the bathroom.

She almost didn't make it to the bathroom, her stomach emptying itself the moment her head was in the toilet. She coughed and gagged and warm tears rolled down her cheeks as she lost the days food.

The rest of the trip was a blur. She remembered Aiden gently leading her to the car and running back inside. She remembered opening the car door and curling on the ground, exiting her stomach once again. Brittany could faintly remember Aiden leading her up the stairs of his apartment, being oh-so-gentle with her as he led her to the couch and once again disappearing.

Her stomach turned again and Brittany got up off the couch and dashed to the bathroom. Once again her head was in the toilet and the last of the food in her stomach splashed into the toilet bowl. She could still feel herself gagging but there was nothing to puke up anymore. Despite how disgusting she felt, she also felt a pang of hunger hit her stomach. Warm tears rolled down her cheeks and she sobbed quietly as she rested her cheek against the seat of the toilet.

As Aiden spoke another heave hit her stomach and she waited for the bile to come out. nothing came out. "I don't know." She said after a moment, "I had uhh... A sandwich and some toast. Some crackers? I can't remember. Nothing crazy." Britt flushed the toilet and closed her eyes. What the hell was wrong with her?

Eloise Evermore
b2501eeb11d6115d4183198949bbebaf7bbce31b.gifv

Eloise watched the storm outside rage on. That morning she had been serving breakfast at the country club, all the golfers choosing to spend their time inside with the wind and clouds brewing a storm outside. She didn't blame them. Her drive to work that morning had somewhat blown her car all over the road. It wasn't until Kerra finally decided to just close up the country club for the rest of the day before the storm got worse. Eloise was happy to go home and curl up on the couch in her sweatpants (and definitely maybe not totally one of Ryan's sweaters) while Pumpkin cuddled in her lap.
Eloise had just beat the rain, thankfully making it inside the apartment perfectly dry. Quickly she gathered the mail before it got all wet. That's when she had noticed a note on the door. Why wouldn't Blu leave her alone? She'd been ignoring all her texts, avoided driving past the diner, and even left the grocery stores that she and Blu ended up in at the same time. She had no desire to see her sister. Not after she abandoned her as a kid. She had no patience when it came to her family anymore.
Tucking the note away within the pile of mail, Eloise stepped into the apartment and greeted Pumpkin, kneeling down to give the little cat some pats before chucking the mail on the coffee table. When she was all cozied up in her sweats and definitely not Ryan's sweater, she plopped herself down on the couch. She had just chosen a show when she heard Ryan come in. He was sopping wet and she hid her giggle. He looked like Pumpkin after a bath but she kept her mouth shut until he was sat down beside her, "thankfully you don't smell like Pumpkin after a bath." She teased and curled into him when he wrapped his arm around her.
Eloise wasn't a trusting person. Not with all the people who left her behind. So the fact that she so easily let Ryan past those walls blew her mind. His charm, jokes, and affection were all she ever wanted from someone in her life. All she's ever been met with was drugs, emotional trauma, and self hatred. He made that all go away. Every time he kissed her, cuddled her, or loved her made all those emotions get pushed to the back of her mind. She forgot about all her worries with him around.
"You expecting someone, El?" He asked as he found the sticky note, "No, but I have no doubt that Blu left that." She said, her tone almost seething as she said her sisters name. She'd explained the situation with Blu to Ryan. How Blu had been one of many people to leave El behind. How her sister never got in contact with Eloise all those years while El dealt with her mothers drug problem, "If she comes here pretend I'm not home or something, I don't wanna see her." She told him, taking the note to crumple it and toss it toward the garbage can.

Just as she little yellow ball bounced off the rim of the garbage and rolled on to the floor, the power flickered before everything in the apartment shut off. "What the hell?" She wondered and stood up to go look out the window. From what she could tell most of the lights in the town had gone out and the storm was now roaring, tossing branches and shingles all over the place, "good thing I picked up groceries yesterday..." She told him and wandered to the hallway closet to gather up some candles. They were all Bath and Body Works, so they would all have a disgusting smell if they mixed together. But, it was all Eloise had for candles. Placing them all over the apartment, the girl meticulously lit a few so that they would have enough light.
"No Pumpkin! Shoo shoo!" She exclaimed as she chased the little cat away from playing with one of the flickering candles, "you're gonna burn your tail off I swear." She mumbled and scooped the cat up. But then there was a knock at the door and Eloise froze. It had to have been Blu. A small panic rose inside her as she looked at Ryan and ducked around the corner, "can you get that?" She whispered, "I can't talk to her..." But she had no clue who was on the other side of that door.

Ryan’s worry about the note, perhaps categorized under ‘irrational’ between his fear of Bigfoot and the theory that maybe John Mulaney *did* kill Princess Diana, seemed to simmer down with Eloise’s mentions of Blu. He supposed it made sense for Blu to have stopped by and dropped off the note when she found Eloise wasn’t home.

With the explanation settling his mind, and the warmth of the couch settling the chill in his bones, Ryan stretched his body out and patted the seat beside him for Eloise to come back from throwing the bothersome note in the trash. He was finally starting to settle when the power flickered out. Ryan’s eyes darted to the window, panes distorted with running water down their surfaces, where he could see the lights across the city diminish one by one as if they were in a chain of dominoes.

“I suppose so,” Ryan responded to Eloise’s comment about the groceries, “though it isn’t like we can cook much with no power.”

Ryan made sure all the windows were locked up tight to stop the rain from coming in through the cracks while Eloise placed candles throughout the apartment. Ryan coughed slightly as the scents filled his nose, making him sort of wish that they were still in darkness.

“Dude did you slaughter the damn CEO of Axe Body Spray or somethin’ in here?” Ryan teased as Eloise shooed Pumpkin away from the open flames. As Pumpkin skittered past him, Ryan scooped the kitten up and hugged her against his chest. “You’re going to jail for kitty arson!”

Knock knock knock!

Ryan froze, Pumpkin still held against his chest. Eloise began to shrink in front of his eyes, her panic illuminated by a bolt of lightning that dashed across the sky.

“Don’t worry,” Ryan reassured as he passed Pumpkin to Eloise for emotional support, “I got it.”

Ryan made his way to the front door and made no effort to make himself look presentable. With his hair still messy and his boxers still damp from the rain, Ryan unlocked the door and pulled it open with a flourish.

“Whatever you want, she’s not here, Blu,” Ryan snapped shortly, leaning his body against the frame to block her from entering. In the darkness, his eyes began to adjust to the figure hiding within it.

Too tall to be Blu, too grayed to be young, reeked of cheap booze and marijuana.

Ryan froze as his eyes continued to adjust, slowly settling on features. A set of lips, one nose, two eyes. With each discovery, his blood ran cold as he began to slowly back up.

Two hands shoved into his chest, throwing the man unexpectedly to the ground. The attacker’s boot ground into his chest, forcing a heavy cough and grunt out of Ryan’s lips as he clawed at the pair of dirty jeans that sat above the boot.

No.

“Hiya Danny.” *No no no*. The laugh was cold as ice, the echo of the voice seeping into Ryan’s ears. Suddenly he was eight again, wondering what a child so young could have done to deserve the wrathful hand of the one man he sought to impress. “Did’ja miss me?” A swift kick to Ryan’s ribs landed, knocking the wind from his lungs. Another laugh. “Why don’cha come on up and give your ol’ pops a hug?”

Ryan struggled against the foot, trying to get to out from underneath the leg that was crushing his chest. In the darkness behind him, he saw movement. In the light of the thunderstorm, he saw the world shatter.

“Well well,” Matthew hummed, “you must be Eloise. You’re,” his eyes gazed over Eloise before his tongue flickered out to lick his lips, “prettier than my Danny deserves.”

“Fuck you,” Ryan spat, his hands thumping against his father’s leg, “fuck you, don’t talk to her.”

Matthew bent down, knee replacing his foot, as he loomed over his body and grabbed Ryan by the jaw. Slowly, he began to lift, the pain forcing Ryan to follow with his movements until he was on his feet. With another shove, this time against his jaw and face, Ryan was pushed back into the hallway. He stumbled, his foot slipping as it came down upon one of Pumpkin’s mice.

He prayed that she’d have the common sense to hide.

Ryan caught his footing as his father stepped into the apartment, becoming clearer with each step that he made towards the living room windows. He placed himself between his father and Eloise, prepping himself to swing. His father won’t take her, won’t use her to hurt him, not if there was still air in his lungs and blood in his veins.

“Calm down, Danny, I just came to have a little chat. It’s been a while!” Matthew laughed. He placed a cigarette between his teeth and freed a silver lighter from his pocket. The flame burned bright and left behind scalding embers and smoke, the flickers seen easily through the dark.

Matthew reached out a hand — scarred and burned and worn and bruised — out to Eloise.

“Daniel’s father,” he introduced with a laugh, “it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
