Other Roleplay Pet peeves

recently had someone take my whole plot concept and pass it off as their own in an interest check, soon after we decided not to pursue our story further 🧍 like… if it was just the basic premise, whatever, live your life, but they literally took so much of my worldbuilding that they did not contribute to in the slightest. just irks me.
Dang, that's awful...I'm so sorry 😢

For me a pet peeve would be... Having ideas of a roleplay but me not wanting to organize it.. or just throwing the idea out there and letting someone else do all the organization and I'm a normal roleplayer. Like give the idea and let someone else run with it. That and I feel like I'm not up to date enough with the historical backgrounds I want to do (definitely wanna do a geisha/mythology at some point but ah.. laziness and not wanting all that pressure)
Speaking as someone who is primarily a historical RPer it's not easy. Research is definitely required, which means time and effort. To make matters worse a lot of the settings and periods I'm interested in are pretty obscure in the west. I mean places like eastern Europe, middle east, central Asia, etc. Basically settings that are rarely explored in western media, and if they are then they tend to be stereotyped or heavily reliant on orientalist tropes.

If you're hesitant to write with me and feel the need to interview me before we start writing, I'm going to tell you right now we are def not compatible. And I'm growing very tired of roleplayers feeling like they have to contact someone on the off chance they might be a good partner. If something in my search thread is making you go "I don't think this is it" don't contact me. Simple as that.

Getting really tired of people who do a lot of OOC talking about their characters, and I mean CONSTANT talking about it when you engage them, but either-
1- Don't bother to continue on with the RP
or
2- Don't engage with you about your own characters

Like?? I'm not going to be hyped to talk to you about your characters if you won't talk about my own or even further our story together?? Seems ultra selfish and it's been happening a lot lately. Eventually I just stop discussing story-related stuff altogether.

had this happen in a group rp where me and some other people's characters were essentially thrown to the wayside in terms of plot relevance, even as we were doing our best to be involved in the ongoing narrative. all because our characters weren't "paired" with anyone, and there was no romantic drama to exploit ig. romance, for me, is like the garnish in any rp, never the main dish, and if your biggest priority in a GROUP rp is how fast you can ship your character with someone else's, i don't even know what you're doing there.

I don't even understand how a group RP can be ficusedon romance. You'd think that there would have to be an element with more meat on it to keep a whole group going. Kissy-kuddle mushy time isn't exactly a fun group dynamic. All I can see happening is a bunch of pair offs... which, what's the point of a group, then?

But on the same relative subject, one thing I absolutely hate that happens in groups is when two or three people run away with the plot without waiting for the rest of the group to contribute. Like, a literal day goes by and suddenly there is multiple posts by those other members and a scene change, etc.

i should state that the setting of the RP itself wasn't centered around romance, but rather the DM showed blatant favoritism towards characters who were involved in a romantic relationship. and it DID, in fact, wind up alienating a handful of us who were, like, more interested in the going-ons of the actual plot, not interpersonal relationship drama. people are dying, kim.

this too though haha i've been in that situation before as well and it's not fun to have mountains of back-reading to do 😅

It always annoys me when people do not read the first page of my RP threads and they ask me questions that could've easily been answered had they just read the first page. Or I tell them that all the information they need regarding the RP is on the first page of (blank) thread and they repeat the question. Even outside of RP I always thought reading the very first page of a forum thread before making a post was standard practice.

I'm saying this in response to the above on groups.

If you have so many specific things you want for a group and will show very blatant favoritism towards certain individuals for any reason, perhaps consider a private group. There is nothing wrong with getting the homies together to roleplay something. I have a group of friends where literally every week we have a new story to write for and we've pretty much kept it a closed group for a few months now. There's nothing wrong with that. It just blows my mind how these cliques and DM's will open the door for other players but make it impossible for them to feel welcome and be engaged. It's why I've left a lot of groups and am pretty hesitant to join anymore of them. A lot of them end up being "We're all best friends so you have to really earn your place here". Nah I don't have to earn anything. If that's how you feel, goodbye :)

I have an aversion to roleplays where the available slots/roles are too specific. I have no issue with basic stuff like powers, age, or gender. However, if it's at the point where 60% character is written out then I don't feel like a collaborator so much as a stand in.

This! Sometimes I see some RPs with a pretty decent premise. But then they have these super defined roles for the Players to choose from. And I'm like... damn, so close yet so far. lol
Sorry, but I gotta write my character as something I want to play out, not the cut-out that you have for me to step into.

Here’s a weird one I guess but sometimes I’ll read an old RP of mine just out of boredom and noticing a tiny spelling/grammar mistake in one of my posts that’s like a year old that I never caught originally bugs me for some reason lol.

Like “screw you Edric! What were you thinking not checking for typos!” 😂

Yes, that really takes away a lot of the fun for me. It's for similar reasons I won't write canon characters.

*cough*

  • When you go through the long process of putting together a lengthy and descriptive post, only to have it met with a tiny, scant reply.

  • When the group metric is multi-para, and you have that one person that contributes three sentence replies.

Makes you realize there is good reason to vet potential applicants of their writing style. js

Quality posting is far better than needless novels, yet one should never neglect detail when one feels the need.

I absolutely love fandom roleplays and doing oc×cc doubles but I can't stand when people make an oc who's entire existence revolves around their crush on the cc. Like in the bio it'll just mention how they like them a lot and have been watching them for a while and stuff. Please have a personality that isn't just "I have a huge crush on so and so". It makes it hard for me to engage with their characters on a deeper level because I don't know anything about them besides their unhealthy crush.

Romance that must be toxic. Romance that must happen with a character whose sole purpose/existence is to be antagonistic.

People that need to constantly be told, after ever reply they make, that their post is great.

First impressions are everything to me. If you send a message, to roleplay for example, that has a lot of grammatical errors, no attempt at punctuation, and is just one sentence that tells me a lot.

When in a roleplay where the characters have to be around each other constantly. The other person can't move the story along without having to have their character with mine.

When the other person posts a starter, I reply back, then they tell me since I've put in a lot of detail now they will have to put effort into their posts. So, what were you doing before?

People that don't want me as an actual partner with ideas and contributions but a body to write the characters they want and go along with the story they want to tell.

People that pester me to reply back several times a day. Adding onto this. If I don't then they assume I've either ghosted them or I'm not interested.

one time i did a anime rp and then the person i rped with wanted to make their self basically the "helpless crybaby kawaii anime girl or whatever" then make me x "generic hot topic bad boy" they said i had to be badass and perverted i said what if he was a bad boy who was secretly soft and likes idk hello kitty then they said but he wouldnt be a bad boy....i kinda agreed so we went to the PMs and then they kept on trying to make me pin their character to the wall or something..
like i get its their choice to do what they want but it gets annoying and the fact sometimes i get asked to be the guy i dont mind playing a guy but if i didnt do it correctly they'll say stuff like "YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO BE MY HOT EMO BAD BOY BOYFRIEND UWU YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO BE A PERVERT" girly now have you been on wattpad too much-? the fact they were even trying to get me to do a literal s*x rp too where her oc gets pregnant even though the characters were 14... like i dont do perverted characters i have an oc thats smug she acts like nagatoro and says some dirty things but shes just 16 and shes just childish but- like- no- thats why i told them i was uncomfy but then they just called me a- not even finna say it... then i just simply ghosted them

When someone focuses more on the characters appearance than the rp one time i was rping with someone through the PMs and i said the character i'll be using is plus sized and african american then the person said "oh......ok" then i was like what is wrong then they said "oh...i was kinda expecting a more cute character ya know curvy......skinny...and a little more lighter' EXCUSE ME WHA-??? then i was finna go off but then i just said "um ok" then i posted a drawing of my other oc she was skinny then the person said "shes alright..just a little..small in some areas" bro.....then i said "ya mean shes flat-???" then they said "well the characters are anime..and shes 16 and the age of consent is 16....she can be a little big..." then i popped off and said "look buddy shes my oc shes still underage ......." then the person had the damn nerve to say "well shes gonna be dating my oc so...i prefer girls like that...so...you gotta have some smut drawings of her" after that i just ghosted them like bye.

That person sounds like a red flag. I would have ghosted them too. Probably when they said the cute and curvy bit.

I never get people who just shout their kinks to the world on roleplay sites. Like this isn’t a dating site so I don’t see why I need to know what gets you off nor am I writing porn for you.

Go to pornhub like a normal person and leave the rest of us alone.
