SilverFeathers
Ruler of the Sky
- Forewarning:
- Yes, this is a magic school roleplay.
- Also this is fundamentally a weak to strong roleplay.
- If you can't handle playing weak every day characters learning magic and combat for the first time in their lives, this is also not for you. I want to write and see growth, such as going from making one's first kill, and all the emotional repurcussions that come with it, to someone that can kill without hesitation.
"Unlike those other education facilities with glided exteriors and luxurious decor, Randalla Academy is not one for the faint of heart. Arduous training, spilt blood, skimming the fate of death, such things are common occurrences here at this academy. However, as I'm sure you all know, there is a valuable reason why we have our stellar reputation. Our methods have proven incredibly successful in creating world-renowned mages."
"For those that have chosen to apply despite knowing all this, I welcome you with open arms. The path ahead of you will not be an easy one. Regardless of whether you are courageous, foolhardy, or ignorant of how things are truly run here, we will nurture you into a powerful mage to be feared. Or perhaps... you may die during the process."
"Either way, I have spoken enough, I'm sure you have much you want to do during your first day on campus."
"Once again, I welcome you. To the Perilious Academy of Randalla."
Context:
The Randalla Academy of Perils is not a high-class, prestigious or rich academy, but one that is famous for creating successful and powerful battle mages, as well as being infamous for being incredibly dangerous. Injuries, wounds and illnesses are common among its students, as well as its inevitable death rate.
Geographically, it is situated on a treacherous mountain, surrounded by vicious terrain and beasts on all sides, which aid in its training regimes.
Background Lore:
- Aes Aralis, or simply Aralis, is the name of the continent in which this roleplay will take place. It is a land that glows and thrives with magic and mana, though it is still recovering from the cataclysm that occurred only a century ago.
- This will be set in a world where fantasy appearances are common, such as coloured eyes, coloured hair, star-shaped pupils, heterochromia etc. However, i will not accept things like animal ears, horns, tails, wings, scales, etc.
- The currency will be the typical medieval fantasy stuff, with copper coins, silver coins and gold coins.
- 100c = 1s
- 100s = 1g
- A few copper coins is enough for a meal, whereas a stay at a nice inn that will serve breakfast/dinner will be more or less one silver coin. A gold coin... is a lot of money, perhaps a lucky hard-working peasant's life savings. Spending them is more reserved for the nobility, wealthy or large businesses.
- Seasons, months, days of the week, will all be the same as reality, for simplicity's sake. A school year will probably start early september and end in late june/july, which matches how they are where I'm from.
Mage Types:
- There are three main types of mages, which characters can specialise into at a later date. These are:
- Weaponed Mages
- Weaponed Mages, like their name implies, are able to wield weapons and/or armour whilst casting spells in combat. As quite a broad mage type, some mages infuse their magic into their armour/weapons to further their capabilities, or materialize their own weapons/armour altogether to fight with in battle. A portion of their magic training is therefore swapped out for weapon/armour training, making them the least magically-inclined mages.
- Quickfire Mages
- Quickfire mages specialize in casting spells rapidly, with minimized cast times. They can cast whilst moving, dodging and on the run, making them very versatile, and also the most popular choice. However, a spell cast in an instant can be quite weak on its lonesome.
- Devastation Mages
- Devastation mages specialize in casting slow, but powerful spells, with complicated rituals, magic circles, chants and/or runes. Though unable to move/divert their focus from their spells, their magic prowess is incomparable to any other type of mage. These mages must be well-protected by other types of mages, or knights, during combat.
- Weaponed Mages
Spell System:
- For this roleplay, a spell system will be used to regulate things. Characters cannot cast magic however they want, as instead, characters will have a list of known spells that they have learned throughout the roleplay. Naturally, all characters will start off with no spells in their list.
- All spells will begin at a very beginner/rudimentary level, if you are not looking for a weak to strong progression roleplay, this is not for you. Yes, I said this twice :>
- (why does no one host weak to strong roleplays i love them)
Spell Creation:
- Players will be in charge of creating spells for their characters, when the time arrives. It would be good to have an idea of the first spell for your character, when creating them.
- Spells must be specific, and not vague/adaptable such as:
- Can materialize a fireball of varying shape/size that can burn through things like wood/metal.
- A good spell example would be:
- Can materialize a palm-sized, spherical fireball that can burn through all wood.
- This helps prevent characters from being able to deal with all obstacles with a single spell, that somehow manages to adapt itself to any situation.
What to Expect Plotwise:
- Characters will all be members of the same first-year class. I have yet to decide if I want to call it class 1-2 or something special like Class Prismarine lol.
- I love action and adventure, in high fantasy settings. Though this may be a magic school roleplay, expect a lot of exploration and combat too.
- Missions, raids, trips, festivals, events, spies, competitions, balls, feasts, etc.
- More specifically, for the first few events of the roleplay, I have the following ideas planned, though they are pretty rough at the minute:
- The First Familiars
- Each first-year class will pay their first visit to the Valley of the Fae, a glowing, mythical realm filled with spiritual beasts, both dangerous and adorable. There they will find their first familiars.
- Sacred Mana Pool
- A trip to Randalla Academy's sacred mana pool, a core node on the continent's criss-crossing network of mana leylines. There they will find air thick with mana and magical essence, as if they could cast spells all day and not feel a thing.
- The Starfall Festival
- An annual festival where the people celebrate the night's beautiful starfall, where a shower of stars fall to the earth, with the variety of colours found in a rainbow.
- The First Familiars
- Character Creation:
- Characters are limited to little or no prior combat/magic experience. This includes things like hunting, martial arts and self defence training.
- All characters start off with a single elemental affinity, which will be their main source of magic. (At a later date, it will be possible to branch into other types of magic.)
- No fantasy races for this roleplay please, purely human.
- I will most likely lay out some rough world/geographical lore with kingdom outlines, but I expect you to add to this in your character's backstories. Free to make up cities/towns/villages/forests/mountains and whatnot. If you want to make the capital of ____ widely known for their clown displays and circuses, go for it. Would love to see how I can somehow get a diplomat of said kingdom to visit and show off some tricks...
Extra Info:
- I will control many NPCs, the environment and events. Though, feel free to add your own to the mix.
- NPCs will have many blank spaces in their character sheets, for your characters to find out during the story.
- I don't particularly have a plot in mind. All my ideas are usually improvised on the spot. Which is why if you have ideas of your own, do share, or otherwise help make the story interesting.
- I will maybe look for 5-6 active players. If some leave, I may recruit more, or if I just feel like adding in some transfer students. Even if I just get 2-3 active players though, I'll be happy.
Rules:
- 2-6 paragraphs (Assuming 100 words minimum per paragraph), if post is longer, please add a summary.
- This is purely so that if someone needs to catch up quickly, they can do so more easily.
- One post every five days minimum.
- I don't care if your posts drop in quality, as long as you can meet this. I'm not expecting everyone to be inspired all the time or have time to think up amazing ideas.
- My word is law, I have the right to reject ideas/characters/players.
- Be available for DMs in case I want to plot things, secretly. (You can opt out of this if it bothers you lol)
- Have good spelling and literacy. Minor typos are fine, but one every sentence is too much. Also capitalize and use punctuation.
- Typical roleplay etiquette, such as no godmodding, being nice to each other OOC, etc.
