Care Bears... prepare to stare!
1952, a previously-uncharted Pacific island.
During the Korean War, many ships had marked "Island X" for exploration, yet more pressing matters kept the US naval fleet from its shores. In the early months of 1952, "Island X" was finally paid a visit by a small F-76 vessel and her small crew of twenty men. Their original purpose was to assess the island to see if it would be adequate to build a listening station on it. But they found something more. Strange creatures inhabited the island. Animalistic creatures, some only had animal ears and tails while others were fully anthromorphic. But what interested the soldiers the most was a shrapnel that radiated nuclear waves, the inhabitants seemed to guard it. The leaders of the two tribes of the island told them it held a great power, it gave them their power to shapeshift.
The two tribes of the Island, go by The Clan and The Pack and between them is The Neutrals. The Clan holds the more cat-like shifters, while the Pack holds the dog-like shifters. The Neutral Side holds all the other animal shifters, outcasted by the others. The Clan and Pack are at feud with each other on who should be the one to keep the sacred item.
In the end, neither of them kept it. The Government ordered their men to take in the new found species and bring them to a remote location. Shiboro, New Mexico. A town deserted by it's previous residents due to the nuclear war. They put the tribes into sections, Pack in the North, Clan in the south and Neutrals in the middle. The Scientists began to study the species and their sacred item.
The three tribes are not allowed to enter each other's territory. Without some sort of fight breaking out. Though with tensions high the Clan and Pack seem to be planning stuff for each other. None of it good, and the Neutrals might be forced to take a side.
Notes:
-This does take place in the 50s
-The Tribes are unfamiliar with many things that the humans have
-The Tribes think that the Shrapnel is a gift from their Gods
-The Scientists are trying to make the shifters get use to human society
-So far it seems to be working
-Scientists watch them from an unknown location, as well as mingling with the shifters
-There are Clan and Pack ranks and I will get to those later
-The shifters were already animal-like, the shrapnel just gave them the power to shift.
