Juniper has straight, blonde hair with a hint of brown at the root that often causes people to ask if she's a natural blonde. Spoiler: she is. Her eyes are a green-hazel color and pair perfectly with her light olive skin tone. She stands at around 5'5 and due to her background in cheer, she always had a semi-athletic and toned body in growing up. Despite the fact that she stopped cheer after her pregnancy and...well, the pregnancy, she continued to be active and work out which has kept her in great shape so she's still on the very petite side. Of course, she could also attribute this to good metabolism probably thanks to her mother.

June has always considered herself a fashionable girl, though her version is a little more laid back than others. In high school, she was all about appearance and spending hours getting herself all dolled up no matter the occasion. You could find her reapplying her lipstick before almost every period and crying if she broke a nail. Now she's a little more focused on the cute and cozy aspects rather than constant heels and rhinestones though that doesn't mean her newly acquired mom style has made her unfashionable though and she's still very much a girlie girl.

When she was sixteen she got her belly button pierced behind her parent's backs, they found out and her mother made her remove it but she got it re-pierced sometime after her son was born. She also got a tattoo (a tramp stamp that says angel with some devil horns on top) prom night which again...they were not happy about, good thing the pregnancy overshadowed that one a couple of months later.

history

AJ was born in Port Vera to a single mother working long nights to feed both her and her brother. The only reason she ever knew found out her father's name was because of child support checks that came in the mail. Her father was a famous musician, he'd made her mother sign an NDA and had no interest in her or his kids, because he had a "real" family in LA.

She grew up poor, but with everything she needed from her loving mother and brother. Due to their economic situation her mother encouraged her to pursue a reasonable career, like business or a S.T.E.M. field, but AJ had a passion for the arts and wouldn't be persuaded otherwise. After saving up enough money, she bought her first guitar at thirteen and taught herself to play without money for lessons.

Alaska couldn't wait to graduate high school so she could head off to New York and begin her career. But, a certain journalist made her contemplate staying in Port Vera. Raven and AJ dated for their entire senior year, so the musician hesitated to leave her girlfriend behind. They decide to try long distance so that AJ could follow her dreams in New York.

Once she arrived in New York, AJ's career took off. She was signed with a record label in months and was off on her first tour. She tried to bring Raven with her as much as she could, but the distance made it hard. Then, one drunken night on tour in Las Vegas, AJ and Raven got hitched at a drive thru chapel.

After their drunken marriage, Raven moved to New York to be with her now wife full-time. But even in the same city, AJ was always busy. Their relationship fell apart until one day AJ came home and found that Raven was gone. SHe'd moved back to Port Vera without even a word, and Alaska made sure that her lawyer took care of the divorce. Or at least so she thought.

history

Ryder was born in Port Vera to a single mother working long nights to feed her two kids, Ryder and his sister AJ. Though AJ had no interest in their father, Ryder desperately wanted to meet him.

They grew up poor, but with a loving mother. Ryder excelled at sports and had no problem making friends at school, fitting in had never been a problem for him. It was no surprise when Ryder got his first girlfriend, but everyone was surprised by how serious it was. Ash had been one of Ryder's best friends since she'd pushed him into that puddle in kindergarten.

Their relationship wasn't always perfect, but they loved each other deeply and when Ryder decided to enlist in the military after graduation, he decided he wanted to make Ash his wife. But before Ryder could pop the question, one big fight before graduation left him single. He should have noticed that Ash was pulling away, but he'd been so excited about their future that he hadn't paid attention to their present problems.

Newly single and without direction in his life, Ryder threw all he had into the military. It changed him immensely over the years he was enlisted, and after five years of service he returned to Port Vera to find a real purpose for his life.

Ryder used his veteran benefits to get a late start on college, working construction in the mean time to pay his rent. While back in Port Vera, he started seeing Amy, and things have been good. Almost too good.

Seductive, curious, determined. Stubborn, Impulsive, hypocritical.

Three virtues and three vices isn't enough-- nor will ever be enough to describe Raven Rivera. She's a woman filled with passion. Running on confidence alone and making the best out of any situation with a witty comment or two. She's loyal to those she loves and disinterested towards her enemies.

She's hard to anger unless you hit a few sore spots, and even then Raven would never show her emotions towards it unless she knew the person well enough.

And even then, it'd take a lot, she's opinionated with everything but her own feelings.

While she isn't particularly closed-off to anyone, she bottles up her emotions subconsciously because something-- or someone would be more important than whatever negative feeling bubbles up.

first stage of life

Andrea Rivera had gotten pregnant at the ripe age of seventeen, "disowned" by her mother, barely ready to graduate high school and a boyfriend who wasn't interested in sticking around for a kid he wasn't even sure was hers. She settled in a trailer park outside of town.

Her ex had gotten her hooked on quite a few things, and once Raven was born, Andrea was a full blown substance abuser. Growing up, everything that had to be done, was done by Raven. Cleaning, cooking, (even if it was terrible,) walking to school by herself-- waking her mother up from a drug-induced slumber because the landlord was outside, awaiting rent.

Raven was only around eight or so when the school started to take notice of lack of parental supervision and many forged signatures. Social services had gotten involved and Raven was sent to live with her grandmother. She didn't have to resort to stealing-- or more importantly, she wasn't allowed to. It was somewhat of a moral code for her grandmother and Rose had thrown her superstitions, morals, and whatever else she could've into Raven.

Shaping her into the woman she is today.

Five years later, an accident landed Rose in the hospital and she was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. Everything had suddenly become all-too-real and Raven didn't know how to juggle everything at once, slowly by slowly everything came together. Insurance had paid for a full-time nurse, (Raven's best friend minus you know who, but that isn't important.) Disability checks were enough to keep them afloat. Pay for utilities and necessities.

It was emotionally draining to see her grandmother changing every other day, but Raven refused to acknowledge anything was different.

She remained indifferent.

second stage of life
Raven was sixteen when her grandmother passed away and her mother had inserted herself back into Raven's life. By this time-- Mason's daughter, Ariana was somewhere around three years old (?) and Raven had made it a priority to help out whenever she could've. This was frowned upon by many people, Ariana's mother, her own mother, Deo too, who was a close friend of hers at the time, and her soon-to-be girlfriend Alaska Vaughn who had quite a lot to say about Mason and his family.

However, Raven ignored all of their opinions and continued to prioritize Mason, Ariana, (and Jade) before anyone else.

Andrea had moved in and explained that she didn't have to take care of everything by herself anymore, that she should look into applying to colleges, start making a plan for herself and so forth. Raven had the mistake of believing her. The roles were reversed. Raven was playing the parent while her mother was stuck in the role of a child. Addiction was a disease and it was one that continued to hurt both parties.

Raven had to worry about her future.

Her living situation.

Rent, bills, schools, tests, essays, dealing with an very unnecessary overdose that led to her mother getting clean for a few months before she relapsed and it continued to happen like clockwork.

Addicts seemed to be a recurring theme in her life, Jade Jennings was Raven's closest friend growing up. The two had gotten into more trouble than Raven would care to admit and it'd taken her a few years to realize that Jade was spiraling.

Raven landed a scholarship in USC in California, but after one too many drinks, the brunette had the mistake of allowing Jade to drive. They'd gotten pulled over and Jade had illegal substances in the glovebox. Naturally, the two were arrested and her scholarship was revoked because of it. This led to their relationship turning sour as the months went on but when Jade ended up pregnant around eighteen, they reconciled.

Alaska and Raven had gotten closer and eventually had gotten into a relationship.

A lot of their relationship was overshadowed with who Raven considered family. Alaska's career had started to take off, moving to New York and she asked Raven to go with her. It was something she'd given a lot of thought and staying in Port Vera was never something Raven wanted, New York was a chance to get out there, maybe land a job at some fancy magazine she'd write for.

The night Raven made her decision was the same night Mason asked her to adopt Ari.

Alaska and Raven did long distance instead.

Unfortunately, Adriane had given them a hard time, Raven couldn't adopt Ariana unless Adriane, her biological mother signed her rights away and she wasn't budging. By now, Raven fully considered Ariana her own and every other year they'd go through the same argument and she always hit the same wall.

The next few years followed a journalism degree and Jade Jennings had fallen off the face of the earth, which resulted in Raven leaning on long-distance girlfriend for help. The pair had traveled to Vegas in search of the addict blonde, after a failed attempt, a drunken night and a drive-thru chapel later, Raven Rivera was married.

The next morning had been fueled with panic, but they continued their search and had finally found Jade. Raven had dragged her back to Port Vera along and had her admitted into a rehabilitation center.

Alaska and Raven had talked over their... impromptu wedding, and the brunette was convinced to move to New York.

third stage of life

Those few months in New York was... nothing like she expected it to be.

Raven had done some freelance work here and there for a handful of magazines but nothing that ever stuck. New York was filled with journalists, drama columns, and the next writer itching to be on the New York Times.

Her confidence was at a zero and Raven didn't have the energy to compete with for jobs back and forth just to get rejected. A lot of her time was spent in the... irritatingly big penthouse Alaska's job had landed her. Her ~~girlfriend~~-- wife's newfound fame had been difficult to deal with. Paparazzi, rumors, tabloids, fancy dinners, apartments she never once-thought she'd live in, people she never believed she'd converse with unless it was for an article...

She felt uncomfortable.

More importantly, Raven felt alone.

She refused to accompany her wife to some award show, they argued and later that night Ariana had called Raven, and... she took that as a sign to go home. Raven left a note and packed a bag. She wasn't home when Alaska came back with a award in hand.

No-fault divorce papers were filed and she signed her name, and... that was that.

A year later at twenty-three, Raven has a failed marriage, a daughter that's not legally hers, and a new boyfriend she's afraid to develop feelings for...

At least she landed a stable job?

All in all... she's doing pretty well.

Josephine Burkhart is the girl next door.

She's sweet, shy, quiet, and... a little bit of a control-freak all in one. She's passionate, artistic and in constant need of validation wherever she could get it.

She's the type of girl to tutor you, give you a pick-me up speech or... she just likes being needed. Josie offers help to whoever would take it. The blonde had always felt like she could disappear and the world could move on without her, nobody would even blink an eye

She's caring, naïve and sincere. Josie can't handle arguments or confrontation. She lacks a backbone and it's clear to most people but it hasn't been something anyone's brought up.

She strives to be the person others can lean on and is very serious about her religion, Josephine would never force it on somebody unless they're wanting to listen.

A classic hopeless romantic, a girl who loved autumn, Christmas and mistletoe-- she wishes on shooting stars in the ivory tower she calls her childhood home.

first stage of life

Josephine is the youngest daughter of John and Mary Burkhart. They were a family who prided themselves on their religion-- bible studies, church every Sunday, grace before every meal and they enforced these teachings and shared the word of god with both of their daughters.

John Burkhart was gentle, caring, and hardworking man. He worked in construction while Mary was the school secretary of Port Vera Middle School. They weren't and aren't signifiantly well off, but have always been comfortable and financially stable enough to support their family.

They were the picture perfect family.

While they looked alike, both daughters were complete opposites.

Juniper was the older, louder, rebellious, fun-loving daughter, skipping church to head to brunch with her friends and to the mall instead, opting out of bible study that night to catch a party with one of the cutest guys in school, or getting a tattoo on the night of prom and returning home with a pair of devil horns on her lower back.

Josie... was the quiet, obedient, people-pleaser, the first one ready for church, reciting a scripture at bible study from memory, and joining choir at a young age.

Growing up, Josephine didn't have many friends, while a friendly acquaintance to most, she didn't connect with anyone until she met Shannon Whitten in middle school, the two were practically inseparable until high school.

Shannon found an interest in boys while Josie... didn't really have many romantic prospects in her midst.

Of course, there was Elijah Mayne, the dreamy senior that Josephine had the inability to speak to whenever they were alone. She had the biggest crush on him but she failed to do anything about it. There wasn't anything to do-- considering the age gap. She was fourteen and definitely not allowed to date... any boy.

A girl could dream though-- and she did. Josephine Burkhart had Taylor Swift running on repeat while reading through many upon many of fairytales and countless romance novels dreaming of her very own prince charming.

There might've been a twinge of jealousy when Juniper had started dating Carter MacCabe, a nice boy in her grade. His parents were religious too so their families got along instantly. While Juniper broadened her horizons socially, Josephine tapped into her artistic nature, she loved photography, painting, she was even chosen to paint a school mural in the hallway of Port Vera High.

Her parents were strict enough to eliminate any sort of fun, but Juniper and Tabitha Cohen had convinced Josephine to leave her comfort zone and accompany them to the few high school parties that Josie... wasn't a fan of.

They weren't all bad, she had even met Elena Suarez, the woman who'd introduced her to her soon-to-be boyfriend years later.

Juniper was eighteen when she'd gotten pregnant.

Now, for the Christian Burkhart family, premarital sex was... pretty frowned upon, but her sister had the tendency to bend most of her parents' rules-- especially the bibles. It was never something Josephine would bring up, the last thing she wanted to do was to be the Christian that everyone strayed away from, religion shouldn't be about fear, and judgement was one of the biggest sins of all.

Juniper was often yelled at by her parents... mainly her mother, Josephine had always attempted to stick up for her in one of the smaller ways that wouldn't get her in trouble too.

Which was difficult when Mary, her mother had a superiority complex and took everything you said to heart. A good amount of their relationship diminished when Mary and Juniper had argued about the pregnancy, her parents suggested marriage... but by then Carter was already enrolled in the military.

Josephine just began to feel helpless and was incapable to stop her family from falling apart. Things had gotten worse when Juniper packed up and left-- forcing Josephine and her father to cut contact with her older sister.

Mary felt as though she had to pick religion over her own daughter. She was worried about everyone's judgement and how the church would see her family after Juniper had gotten pregnant out of wedlock.

They kept quiet about the whole ordeal, but many eyes were on them as rumors circulated around Juniper's sudden departure. Josephine was told to tell everyone that her sister was off at college.

Josie never agreed with her mother's ways, but she knew that arguing with her mother wouldn't end well, and to be frank-- Josephine never had to courage to stand up to her mother. Secretive phone calls, updates, and baby pictures were shared between Juniper, Josie, and their father without Mary finding out until years later.

Despite her sister's leave, Josephine focused on finishing school and applying to many colleges out of state.

When Josephine was eighteen, Shannon and Josie's relationship started to blossom into something more after Shannon had kissed her out of the blue.

This had sent Josie into a spiral.

Her sexuality was never something she had thought about until she realized that she might've been gaining feelings for Shannon. Out of uncertainty and fear, Josephine had slowly cut Shannon off from her life entirely.

Around this time is when John's health started to deteriorate and he was forced to retire early, Josephine decided to stay behind to take care of her family.

third stage of life

Attending community college, Josie's an art major, a bookkeeper for the local church and she currently works at Geronimo Diner as a waitress. It's owned by Aidan Parrish, a friend of Josie's who's continuously struggled throughout his life.

Their relationship was usually Josephine offering her help where it wasn't needed. He had probably gotten suspicious when she asked if he was hiring, but after Josephine had explained that John's heart problems had him retiring early, he realized that she needed the money and hired her.

After John suffered a heart attack a week before thanksgiving, he was rushed into emergency surgery, this had Juniper rushing back home with her now three-year-old son, Reese.

Dealing with the stress that was her family, the church, school, and balancing a two year relationship on her shoulders, Josephine's a little more than just stressed.

So stressed that she was starting to feel a little trapped.

Tabitha grew up in a castle, as it's ruling little princess. In a gigantic mansion out in Port Vera, the youngest of 3 siblings, life seemed idyllic and perfect to any outsider's eyes. Her family was wealthy, the kind of rich people who posed for magazines, holding their golden-haired children, and bought yachts in California, to party and drink until they couldn't stand.

Her father was said to be an upstanding citizen, a pillar of the community, a God-fearing man...she found out soon enough that wasn't the case. Being old-money rich meant Robert Cohen never had to work a day in his life, so he spent his time curating a public persona of a charitable, kind man, then proceeded to go home, drink himself numb and take all his anger out on his children. Tabitha was usually his target, as well as the object of his ire. Everything she did seemed to enrage the man, she could never understand why. He never treated her brothers like he did her. She convinced herself. from a young age, that there was something about her that was inherently hateful- and so far she's never managed to believe otherwise.

To make up for it, Tabitha made herself be absolutely perfect: she was the smartest, the prettiest, she read the most books and played piano so beautifully it made her teachers cry. She was a natural leader, a ferocious winner, and she had to be the best at absolutely everything.

As a teenager, Tabitha acted like she was grown. She was weary, exhausted, and always angry. Angry at her family, at whatever new boyfriend she'd gotten that week, and mostly at herself. Tabitha couldn't wait to get out of town and never look back. There was nothing holding her back...until Lucky.

When she got the Yale acceptance letter, Tabitha begged him to come with her, and he begged her to stay. Same problem, different fonts: she couldn't bear to stay with her family, he couldn't bear to leave his. After he proposed in a last attempt to get her to stay, her mind went haywire, and she left town overnight, leaving a note behind with all the things she couldn't bring herself to say.

A few months later, when she found out he was now dating her former best friend Ash, Tabitha wanted to come back to Port Vera just to run over both of them with her car.

Yale was everything she had dreamed of. She loved academia, she loved writing, studying, and being free- she no longer had to walk around eggshells, or worry about saying the wrong thing and ending up in the hospital. Things were good.

Until they weren't.

Her mother's diagnosis came first. Lung cancer. Inoperable. It wasn't that much of a surprise, ever since Tabitha could remember, her mother always had a cigarette in hand. Her brother Edgar was coming back home to take care of her. That was surprising, as Edgar couldn't even take care of himself, let alone their sickly mother.

The phone call came second, in the middle of the night, just like in the movies. They found Edgar face-down at someone's pool, some random guy he'd met the same night. He spent 4 days in a coma, and his heart stopped while Tabitha was taking a nap in the waiting room. It had been a long time coming, but that didn't make it hurt any less.

So here she was, back in Port Vera, the place she fought so hard to get away from. After putting her entire life on hold, she had to bury her brother and care for her mother. Back in the home she hated more than anything.

Tabitha would say things couldn't get worse, but she wouldn't want to jinx it, not with her luck.

The Parrishes had been living in Port Vera for ages, and no matter how bad things got, they were never getting out.

That's what Aiden had heard all his life. His great-grandfather lived and died here, so he also had to. It didn't seem fair, but his father was an angry man, and he knew better than to argue with him. Rather than fighting it, Aiden made a reluctant choice: if he couldn't get out, he'd turn things around from the inside.

An intelligent and hard-working kid, Aiden's dream, ever since he was little, was to turn the shitty family diner into something big and beautiful. A restaurant so good it became a tourist attraction. As he grew up, he started realizing that was pretty hard to do when the owner was in and out of jail every 6 months.

He got his first job at 13. Aiden was lucky that his growth spurt came early, because he told the auto-shop's owner he was 16, and the man bought it. At 14, he had to choose between paying the gas bill or his father's bail- that's when he got his second part-time job, on top of working the diner. It wasn't a life he loved, but it was what he had.

Spending most of his time struggling to make ends meet, his social skills ended up lacking. He had been told by almost everyone in his life how weird he was, how off-putting the lack of an expression of his face was and how it made others uncomfortable. Aiden wished so badly to be naturally charming and funny like the others- maybe then, people would overlook everything else about him.

Aiden was both proud and ashamed. He refused any type of help or handout, everything he had had to come from himself. Nobody was allowed to help, nobody was allowed to get too close, nobody was allowed to own him. And still, he was embarassed about what he had. He never brought any of his very few girlfriends home, too ashamed to let them meet his parents and the drunken disaster they were, or the horrible, shabby house they lived in.

He was proud, unknowable, and so very fucking lonesome.

As of now, Aiden's father is in jail, once again, leaving him as the sole provider of the house, and the one keeping the show running. He's chronically stressed and tired, trying to make the diner into more than what it is, finding some solace in his friends...and in some friends that nobody knows about.

Rain - Few things calms him down as much as the noise of the rain outside. During rainstorms Elijah usually sits down with his guitar and writes songs.

Elijah prides himself on his unique perspectives and vigorous intellect. He can’t help but puzzle over the mysteries of the universe.
He often lose himself in his thoughts – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. From the moment he wakes up, his mind buzz with ideas, questions, and insights. At times, he may even find himself conducting full-fledged debates in his own head.
From the outside, Elijah may seem to live in a never-ending daydream. He has a reputation for being pensive, detached, and a bit reserved. That is, until he tries to train all of his mental energy on the moment or the person at hand, which can be a bit uncomfortable for everyone. But regardless of which mode he's in, Elijah is an introvert and tends to get tired out by extensive socializing. After a long day, he craves time alone to consult his own thoughts.
But it would be a mistake to think that Elijah is unfriendly or uptight. When he connects with someone who can match his mental energy, he absolutely lights up, leaping from one thought to another. Few things energize him like the opportunity to swap ideas or enjoy a lively debate with another curious, inquiring soul.
Elijah loves to analyze patterns. Without necessarily knowing how he does it, he has a Sherlock Holmes–like knack for spotting discrepancies and irregularities. In other words, it’s a bad idea to lie to him.
Ironically, Elijah shouldn’t always be held at his words. He rarely means to be dishonest, but with his active mind, he sometimes overflow with ideas and theories that he haven’t thought through all the way. He may change his mind on anything from his weekend plans to a fundamental moral principle, without ever realizing that he’d appeared to have made up his mind in the first place. In addition, he is often happy to play devil’s advocate in order to keep an interesting discussion humming along.
Elijah could spend all day musing about ideas and possibilities – and he often does. That said, the practical, everyday work of turning those ideas into reality doesn’t always hold his interest. He wants to understand everything in the universe, but one area in particular tends to mystify him: human nature. He can find himself baffled by the illogical, irrational ways that feelings and emotions influence people’s behavior – including his own.
This doesn’t mean that Elijah is an unfeeling person. He generally want to offer emotional support to his friends and loved ones, but he doesn’t necessarily know how. And because he can’t decide on the best, most efficient way to offer support, he may hold off on doing or saying anything at all.
This “analysis paralysis” can affect multiple areas of Elijah’s life. He can often overthink even the smallest of decisions. This makes him feel ineffective and stuck, so exhausted by the endless parade of thoughts in his mind that he struggles to get things done.
The good news is that Elijah doesn’t have to stay stuck for long. His unique strengths include everything he needs to pull himself out of the ruts that he occasionally falls into. By leveraging his creativity and his open-mindedness, Elijah can reach his full potential – both as a thinker and a happy, well-rounded guy.

childhood years
Elijah was born in Port Vera, Maryland to Allan and Rosie Mayne. Growing up he remembers his family being rather poor. He often watched his mother skip a meal so he could eat that day. His family used to run a Bed & Breakfast up until all the tourists left and they were forced to close it down. These days Allan works as a mechanic and Rosie is a teacher at the local elementary school.
At the age of six Elijah picked up the guitar for the first time and immediately fell in love. There had always been a guitar laying around the house since his father played sometimes. For many years to come Allan became his guitar teacher which in return lead to a great relationship with him.

teenage years
In high school Elijah changed quite a bit. He used to be this high energy kid who always wanted to be the center of attention at all costs, to someone who just sat quietly at the back of the class dreaming of better days. He had grown tired of being someone he's not just for other's amusement. It was during these years it became apparent for him that he could use music to express feelings otherwise not possible. Songwriting was his way of escaping reality and the struggles of being a teenage boy.
At the age of 15 his mother Rosie passed away in a car accident involving a bus. This left him absolutely devastated. Elijah had to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital for three months in order to handle his loss. He had tried to commit suicide with opiates and his father had found him overdosed on the kitchen floor. After years of therapy Elijah was able to accept his mothers fate, though it still creeps up on him from time to time.
By the end of high school he began working with his father as a mechanic as he side-hustled as a musician. As friends left from Port Vera to go study he was stuck, there was simply no way he could afford college. His father always believed Elijah would succeed with his dreams of being an artist. Five years later it seemed like his father indeed was correct, Elijah had landed his first record deal in New York City.
adult years
Five years after high school Elijah left Port Vera behind and headed for New York City. It was time to pursue his music career so he could live the life he'd always dreamt of. One year in to his leave the record deal declared bankruptcy leaving Elijah behind. At the moment he felt helpless and almost as if he was being followed by a rainy cloud.
He resorted to using the little studio knowledge he had in order to land a job as a studio engineer at a studio in New York. This is where he spends most of his time as he also works on his own music in secret using their studio.
Elijah's yet to find the love of his life, not that he's searching, they have just not crossed each other's paths yet.
