On the Road

Liza Kreuzer

The mystic follows behind the others, her copies moving alongside her. It is weird to see yourself in action - and to see them turn sideways whenever you look. She stops as the others open fire, or jump forward in Nasoth's case. No warning, no talk - just blasts out of nowhere, meant to lure the beast into the trap. "Abandon this place, flee as long as you can. Find yourself a home in the wilderness, where the chaos you bring does not clash with our lives - and earth and sky shall watch you live on." Someone has to shout such words - just in case there are other options than simply killing the monstrous beast.

Of course, that seems to be rather unlikely - thus Liza does more than just speaking the words. She sees the angry glare in O-Ren's direction, and how the knight tries to get the heads' attention. She grabs her flute, but plays no tune - instead forming gestures and concentrating, until the world finally meets her wish. What does get more attention than a well-armed fighter, shooting bursts at the foe at hand? One surrounded by a shimmering bubble, pulsating around her as if asking for a taste of the hydra's breath. Hardly overseen, even by the most stupid being - and strong enough to withstand an attack, if the hydra decides to choose her as a target.

OOC: Casting Energy Field on O-Ren. (should be 60 mdc, if no ley line is in close, and more importantly a 8ft bubble that shimmers brightly)

Liza's spell goes off without a hitch, causing O-Ren to glow even brighter than before. This in turn draws the attention of the hydra, and it sends a wash of flames out in her direction as the large creature leaps to its feet in pursuit.

Atlanta is holding her action until the hydra reaches the explosives.

Lets give Epiphany Epiphany a shout out to come and join us. If I don't hear from her in a bit, I'll have her act.
Psychie Psychie , do you wish to take the hit, or try and dodge?

Even with the Energy Field around her, keeping out of the way of burning flames is always a good thing. I'll try to dodge as I sprint towards the bombs.

With the incentive of not getting burned on your mind, the Cyber Knight is able to hoof it out of the way just fast enough to avoid getting cooked.

The ambush is going exactly as the group hoped. Alley grapples with a mix of fear and elation. This is the kind of monster an entire Coalition task force might be dispatched to handle! And yet this team was taking it on. For much the same reasons the Coalition might; because it was a threat to good, decent people. The lack of moral ambiguity is refreshing.

It's tempting to wind it down, now that it's in pursuit. But though a Hydra isn't especially intelligent, there's no way to predict how it will react to feeling the world slow down around it.

And so Alley crouches down, her rifle cradled in one arm as her other arm stretches forth a hand, fingers poised for the wind-down effect. To her temporally accelerated perception, the monster (and her companions) already seem to move in slow motion. So she had all the time in the world to marvel at the size and splendor of the beast as it charged towards Atlanta's trap.

The instant those explosives go off, her fingers drop, winding the monster down.

Everyone is running along as fast as they can (except for Alley; she is running very slowly for her), leading the hydra into the explosives. Once everyone is clear of the kill zone, Atlanta triggers the blast. A powerful series of explosions rock the mountainside, doing a sizable amount of damage to the beast. I cacophony of roars signal the hydra's pain and anger at the trap being sprung on it.

Once the blast has gone off, Grond leaps into melee range with is vibro-sword. He winds up a powerful swing that connects, doing even more damage. Then, his robotic laser cannon fires its attack, blasting the hydra with its laser.

The creature is visibly hurt, but far from defeated.

Grinning like a mad lizard, Nasoth dives towards the Hydra, spewing forth the purple haze that halt even such monsters in their tracks.

Ooc: eat breath weapon, scum!

Nasoth's breath weapon engulfs the hydra, causing a coughing fit. But the resistance of the older worm is such that it does not succumb to the effects of paralysis.

Ozug was surprised that Grond closed to melee range with the beast so soon, and he was quite eager to join him. He toyed with the opportunity to test his new blades.

Instead, the ogre moved to a better position, and aimed his rifle carefully, being careful not to hit Grond.

(Out of Character: Ozug will take an aimed shot and fire a triple pulse burst at the hydra.)

The triple pulse from the ogre misses, probably due to the dust and debris still in the air from the blast. [Rolled a 3 on your hit roll]

O-Ren continues to pour on the pain on the hydra, firing a burst of her own that will hopefully cut through the shmutz in the air around the target.

The Cyber Knight is a bit more successful than the Juicer in connecting with her shot, doing a moderate amount of damage. The hydra is getting hurt, but it is still going strong.

As shots are fired, and the beast gets weakened, the mystic raises her left hand once more. Since Grond is the one right in front of the hydra, her focus is on him for now. Another blue-whiteish bubble appears, supposedly protecting him from the creature's revenge.

Now that Atlanta has triggered the explosives, she grabs her energy rifle and opens fire on the hydra, doing minor damage.

At this point, since Grond is the closest to the beast, he becomes the obvious target for the hydra and is hit hard by a claw strike, sending him tumbling backwards. Lucky for him he had the extra protection of the Energy Field spell from Liza, so his armor is not damaged. Yet.

Finally!

To the ex-scientist's accelerated temporal frame, the explosions around the hydra go up like a Michael Bay movie in slow motion. Beautiful. And then the monster comes out of the fiery spray, smoldering and snarling and teeth gnashing. Effortlessly, it bats the giant tank of Grond right off his feet.

Clamping down on a scream, Alley flips her C-12 Heavy Assault Rifle to full burst and opens up on the monster. Die, for God's sake!

Alley's shot is dead on target, but the hydra doesn't even seem to notice the attack as it focuses on Grond as he rises from the ground once more. As he stands, the missile launcher on his shoulder flips down and lets fly with an armor piercing missile, and at the same time the automated laser of his fires a blast of its own. The hydra seems to recognize the threat the missile poses to it and manages to dodge, but the laser blast does hit, doing some more damage to it.

Nasoth dives towards the larger (but not greater, not at all!) beast (certainly not a wyrm, or even a dragon. Third cousing thrice removed or something. At best!) once again. Her claws rake one of its face, spilling blood and tearing out eyeballs.

Claw attack: +10 strike, 9d6+2 MD.

Far from having a friendly family reunion, your claws once more bite deep into the face of one of the seven heads, not quite blinding it, but making it hurt like hell. The constant pounding from everyone combined with the explosives seem to be taking an effect on the beast, but there is still a bunch of fight left in it.

Seeing the melee joined by both Nasoth and Grond, Ozug gives into his savage instincts. He slings his rifle, then quickly draws his twin vibro-swords and leaps into the fray, attempting to flank the creature, and prevent it from focusing its fire.

(Out of Character: Ozug will draw his swords and attack with paired weapons if possible.)

Normally, I would have the drawing of your melee weapons take an action, but with the hyper speed of the Juicer, you get a pass on that. Leaping into the fray, Ozug slams into the wall of armored meat that is the side of the hydra. The beast lets out another angry bellow. You are making progress on your deadly work.

Once more, O-Ren fires a burst from her energy rifle at the hydra. "Keep at it! We have it on the ropes!"

A temporary overheat of the power cell keeps the rifle from firing, but at least you don't lose any ammo, but you do lose the action.

The mystic sees how the magic protects - but it's only a matter of time till damage will be done by the hydra's attacks, despite all the efforts to prevent it. Before that happens, they need to succeed, overcoming the beast before it's too late. Thus, this time, Liza grabs her weapon, aiming at one of the giant heads. Might be that the shots won't even scratch the skin - but you never find out before you try.

Liza's weapon fire manages to hit the hydra, not in the head, but a solid chest shot instead. More blood is running, and it is taking its toll on the beast.

Atlanta uses her rifle for aimed fire at the injured monster, doing sizable damage.

The hydra is now focused on Nasoth, since you are right in its face. One of the heads reaches down to deliver a powerful bite, and it will hit unless you dodge.

"Die, die, for God's sake just die!"

Alley opens up with another burst from her assault rifle, more frightened than she's ever been. Escaping the Devil's Gate facility? Facing off with those mercenaries or even those vampires? Nothing compared to this...this monster that took hits that would bring down a Death's Head transport and kept going.

She fires and keeps firing and prays that the Misfits' ammunition holds out.
