Eric Montagne
October Bartholomew was excessively unpleasant.
Eric could not stop stone-cold frown that darkened his features at the girl's caustic response. Not only was such sarcasm highly uncalled for, it was downright rude, and as a man who had been brought up on the importance of a gentlemanly manner, to Eric, this was one of the highest offenses that one could commit. Sure, he had played a major role in stealing her away from her previous livelihood, but he had merely been doing his job, something that she didn't very well appear to understand; or if she did, she simply didn't care. It was obvious by her tone that she meant to present him with a challenge of sorts, be he would be damned if he went to meet it. No, he had tried to be civil with her, but apparently that approach had not produced the desired effect, and with such being the case, he was determined to show her right then and there that he was the one in charge here, and not so easily agitated as she seemed to believe. If she viewed the estate as a prison, then he had no qualms about playing the part of the stonehearted warden.
An icy retort froze on the tip of his tongue as the sound of Jadran's voice reached his ears, and it took everything in him to wipe the scowl from his face. The Underboss listened, intently for once, to the commands of his Boss, before offering up a facetious salute.
"Comme vous le souhaitez, patron. Consider it done."
It was beyond him who this "someone of importance" could possibly be, but he reasoned that he was about to find out. As Jadran retreated back down the hallway, he produced his phone to page one of the hired guards, without so much as a glance at Bartholomew. Only when he saw the guard coming to meet them did he finally meet her gaze with a look as hard as steel.
"I must bid you adieu for the moment, Mademoiselle. When I return, I will show you to your cell."
That would be the last time that he associated with her of his own accord, he promised himself as he departed to the living room. Someone else could deal with the unpleasant woman.
