In the year 2045 the Savage's, an advanced race of gigantic bug like creatures, attacked planet eart. Damage was immeasurable. Millions died. Conventional weapons and even nuclear options had no affect. These creatures caused chaos all through the planet and killed countless.
As the creatures ran through they turned all inorganic matter into a metal called "Nova Steel". This steel was not a normal steel. It worked much like a supercomputer, but with 1 million times the processing and output abilities. Through research, the human race discovered that by shaping and modifying the Nova Steel, the resulting rods could be implanted in the backs of females with a comparability. Once implanted the females, now known as "Nova Soldiers", had the ability to use the planets electromagnetic field to create weapons that stood a chance against the Savages. These weapons were called "Materials" and always formed as close combat weapons of all types.
The Nova Soldiers were the only affective measures against the Savage's. However, there was a cost. The Nova Steel rod implants constantly took in and amplified the electromagnetic field around the Nova Soldier. Eventually, the would die do to the overwhelming amount of energy flowing through them. For the longest time, being a Nova Soldier was a death sentence. Until Limiters were discovered.
While only women could be Nova Soldiers, one males could be Limiters. It was discovered that if a Nova Steel rod that had been implanted for at least a year was transferred to a male, they could in turn limit the amount of electromagnetic energy the Nova Soldier used. They also gained two abilities. One called Freezing, which allowed them to freeze an opponent in place. The other called Fire Wall allows them to put up an energy field to protect people from attacks.
Becoming a duo is an incredibly intimate process. The Nova Steel rod inside a Nova Soldiers body is, in all meanings of the phrase, a direct link between the Nova Soldiers and the Limiters emotions. That being said, once one Limiter is chosen, you cannot have another.
Humanity has rebuilt up to when they had, but the Savages still attack frequently. The world government put the Nova Project in place. A training program to bring together and train Nova Duo's to fight Savages.
