Fantasy Medieval Fantasy Adventure Interest Check!

Hoyo!!

I'm currently planning a role-play based within an early-medieval fantasy setting with subtle hints to sci-fi/occult undertones.

It's called Assassin's Pledge: Convergence!

This RP will be pretty heavy on intrigue and suspense while also integrating high levels of conflict at various intervals. There will also be a lot of exploration of the world and slice-of-life elements at play too as we interact with the everyday people of the world.

But at the heart of it all, this is most certainly going to be an action packed survival adventure in a world where the darkness lurks around every corner in a plethora of forms, some of which you'd expect and others you won't expect.

So, you in?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?!

Glad you asked!

1) This RP world is an open sandbox meaning there's no real "end" to it, so you don't have to worry about giving your character an "endgame" and can simply focus on their day-to-day lives and development as things happen in the RP.

- There will be a basic story being told beneath all of the shenaniganry that goes on between and around our characters, of course. But other than that the world itself is basically our oyster.

2) As advertised there will be plenty of suspense and high anxiety moments where you don't have a single clue what's about to happen. I take great pride in being labeled an "ebil" GM by some of my friends who roleplay with me regularly. Not "evil." Ebil. There's a difference. Lol. So yeah, expect a lot of moments where you're legitimately scared for how your characters will get out of various situations and wondering what the ever loving f**k is around the next corner.

3) Jumping off the back of the first point, the world itself has a multitude of opportunities for your character to be just about anything you want them to be within the general scope of an early-medieval time period. Things like a weaponsmith, blacksmith, armorer, carpenter, alchemist, doctor, apothecary, military, thief, assassin, bounty hunter, mercenary, rogue, homeless person, dancer, street performer, magician, priest/priestess, nun, teacher, butcher, rancher, farmer, banker, restauranteur, or anything else that could exist in this period. That's just a basic start to the list of what you could be in this RP world.

4) This RP will be exploring a lot of dark content. So for those who enjoy exploring the darkest depths of the depravity of society, this RP will be for you (though it will be done sparingly). Obviously we will be within RPN's rules for content. But believe me I know how to ride that razor's edge with surgical precision. So I hope you look forward to that!

5) As a GM I genuinely strive to always get better and make my worlds better. So if you have ideas for stories and quests and things our characters can go on together, throw them my way and we can discuss how to potentially implement them. Obviously I can't always say "yes" to every idea as there are some limitations of the world which I can't budge on or else I risk breaking the lore. But for the most part it will be pretty hard to submit an idea for something to do that I don't find a way to say "yes" to. So yeah! Feel free to suggest things to me and you'll be responsible for some of the portions of the RP as we go through it together!

Hopefully this all sounds fun! If not, I take significant offense to yo-okay I'm kidding. I take no offense whatsoever. 😂

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE RP, BASIC INFORMATION!

The RP will not require any character sheets to be created, but I will ask that you give me the basic rundown of the character in a private message. It can be as short as a couple sentences just so I know where they were born (because it truly does matter for this RP), what their basic personality is in a nutshell, and what they do for a living (if they have a regular job, of course).

The reason this basic information matters, like where you're born, is because each of the five nations is different in terms of geography, climate, weather patterns, etc. And your birthplace and upbringing in said birthplace will impact what your character looks like, how they speak, and how they behave.

Shaharan, for example, is very much like northern Africa and the Sahara desert (hence its name being based off that location). As such, and to give shout outs to my two favorite members of the Golden State Warriors basketball team, skin complexion from Shaharan ranges from light bronze like Steph Curry to darker tones like that of Draymond Green. That's also my nice way of saying that there will be no white washing of Shaharan. White washing of this poor nation has happened in the past, and I'm done letting it happen. If you're from Shaharan, you're black and/or middle eastern in skin complexion/appearance. Period.

To go along with the above details from Shaharan, another thing that makes that nation unique is that it's the only one which operates using a Clan-based society with no central government. Each Clan governs itself in isolation and creates its own version of societal rules and regulations. As such there are no "towns" or "cities." It's either a village, or an encampment (as some Clans are nomadic). The way they communicate between Clans is through "Runners," which are people who carry messages (either written or verbal) of trade opportunities, war declarations, requests for marriage arrangements, or just general news that's worth being shared.

So yeah. Where your character is from definitely matters in this RP.

I will have more information on the five nations at a later time depending on whether or not this RP idea gets enough interest to warrant actually starting it up. So for now I hope that will suffice regarding the five nations.

For now, though, let's focus on some of the basic aspects of the world!

As stated before, it's an early-medieval fantasy. There is no electricity. Flintlock pistols and rifles are the pinnacle of weapon's technology. Light are available through candles and oil lanterns. And the fastest method for travel is on horseback.

Medicine is most commonly acquired via Apothecaries and come in the form of naturally growing herbs, herbal extract mixtures, salves, pastes, and sometimes (though rarely) liquid concoctions that you drink. When it comes to surgery there's no syringes or advanced tools like microscopes to help the doctors do their work. They have basic lenses to try and get a little magnification, but that's about it. The doctors will have to give you whatever painkillers they have (or knock you out) and dive right hand with both hands to find out what's wrong. If they can't save a limb from damages, they have to saw it off at the safest point to salvage what's left. So don't let your foot get crushed by debris or you may end up losing everything below the knee as a consequence in the operating room.

Entertainment comes in many forms including painting, sculpting, charcoal, primitive metal work, pottery, dance, music, etc. There are also less, um... Ahem!... Less "socially acceptable" methods of entertainment such as brothels and private escorts. And of course there are criminal groups who run similar operations, but with less of a care for the health and safety of the "entertainers." Shaharan is the only nation which does not engage in this unscrupulous activity due to its Clan-based structure not lending itself to such activities or operations. So yay them!

Faith is different for each of the five nations: Cre' Est is monotheistic and worships the Goddess Peur'Tia, also known as the "Mother Eternal." Shaharan is Aetheistic, and choose instead to idealize the concepts of honor, pride, glory, and personal betterment above any kind of deities. Triveila is polytheistic, with the central figure being Auxereilla, Queen of the Gods. Gweynura is also polytheistic, and the central figure is Rok'tan, otherwise known as the "Holy Father." And Veilbrand used to be monotheistic, worshipping the God Eurugon. But for reasons to be explained later (providing the RP has the interest to warrant it), that's no longer the case and Veilbrand is currently Aetheistic.

Education in all nations save Shaharan is done via public schooling, similar to the modern age though the subject matter is a bit more primitive and it's a shorter experience overall. Shaharan's "education" is you learn from your family and Clan. That's it.

Marriage in Cre' Est, Gweynura, and Triveila is the same. When a couple wishes to get married, the "husband" will acquire a ring and present it to his would-be bride-to-be and if she accepts, they take the request to a Priest who will make the union official. Should either a man or woman be caught in acts of infidelity, the marriage is immediately nullified and the offending party will be forced to spend one week in prison followed by one year of community service.

In Shaharan, there is no "marriage." There are "partnerships" where two consenting adults will copulate either for pleasure or for the purposes of bearing a child. The parents will then share custody of the child once born and help raise it together. They do not have to share a roof to do this. Shaharan acknowledges that love exists, but it's not an "important" part of their culture so it's incredibly rare to see Shaharan couples remain together for any extended periods of time.

In Veilbrand, marriage takes place the same way as the first three nations. However, there is a caveat for women in this nation (courtesy of the current ruler). Should a woman be caught in acts of infidelity or unable to prevent any kind of violation of her "sanctity" as a woman (including rape), it's her fault. As a result, her left hand will be branded and her left ring finger amputated so she can never marry again. All marriages in Veilbrand are marked by a wedding band on the left ring finger. No finger, no marriage. Period. You're now forever doomed to die alone (on the surface) and it's all your own fault.

Nice ruler, huh?

If you want to know about any other aspects of life in general for the five nations, throw me the questions! I love questions!

That's about it for now!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LET'S LOOK AT THE MAP!

ddyxtzo-9ede6691-1820-4d8f-8b79-90c1b3db1073.jpg

So as you can see, the continent is divided into two halves. The "Cre' Itian Mountain Range" separates the East/West hemispheres, and there are three passageways (all man-made) which lead through from one side to the other.

You might also notice this little bit of forest inside the mountains labeled "Roda Valley." That's a very special location which I will give more details on later in this post.

For now, let's focus on the five nations: Triveila, Cre' Est, Shaharan, Veilbrand, and Gweynura.

The red dots with names are the capital cities (or in the case of Shaharan, the "top Clan") for each nation.

A little bit of language for you guys in this RP (as the map makes it pertinent):

1) If there are two distinct halves to a word/phrase/name separated by an apostrophe (such as Cre' Est), there is a cut to the air on the apostrophe and a tiny pause between the two halves is made audible. So reading Cre' Est sounds like Cre (momentary pause) Est.

2) If there is an apostrophe within a word, but no separation, the vowel before the apostrophe is elongated during speech. So Li'itua sounds like Leetua with a slight hold on the long "e" sound.

3) If there is an apostrophe that does not fall between the two halves of a word/phrase/name, such as in Te'i Sai, then the word/half with the apostrophe is read straight as if the apostrophe isn't there. So Te'i is simply spoken as Tei.

All five nations share this lingual quirk as part of their history due to the nature in which the continent was settled. More on that later (providing anyone asks, lol).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FURTHER INFORMATION TO KNOW!

A few final tidbits of information to be aware of as far as lore is concerned in this RP world:

In the "underworld," aka the criminal underground consisting of thieves, assassins, bounty hunters, etc, there is one name which stands above all others as the most feared human being alive: The Red-Eyed Demon.

There are only three facts known about this individual at a personal level: One, he's male. Two, he literally has glowing red eyes which is why he earned his moniker (this is part of the subtle sci-fi/occult elements at play). Three, he's a member of Te'i Sai.

What's Te'i Sai?

Te'i Sai is an assassin organization which has built a reputation for itself over the centuries as the most powerful and successful assassin organization on the continent. They operate out of Roda Valley which is why I have resisted talking about the valley until now. The tallest mountain in the Cre' Itian Mountain Range is located on the Valley's Southern end, known as Mt Heresta, and their headquarters is built directly into that mountain making it virtually unassailable. The valley itself is also nigh inaccessible with the only entrance being a small, well-hidden cave on the Northwest face that Te'i Sai keeps a close eye on at all times.

Te'i Sai is known to target high profile individuals who are most commonly those in politics. Their reasons why vary, but are commonly along the lines of criminal conspiracy, war crimes, treason, and other high-level crimes with which the governments of the different nations aren't really equipped to handle on their own, or refuse to do so for whatever reasons. Many of Te'i Sai's actions seem to paint them as a "warriors of justice" kind of group, as corruption seems to be their central target. But at the same time they have been linked to horrific execution-style assassinations of individuals who didn't seem to have any social or political importance. So nobody really knows what the true intentions of the group are.

The reason why this is important to know is because Te'i Sai will be a constant presence within this RP world as an antagonistic force against our characters. Sometimes their antagonism will be directly in conflict with us meaning we'll have to either flee or fight them. And other times it will be less direct but nevertheless prevalent such as we try to do something and Te'i Sai does something that gets in the way whether they meant to or not.

As Te'i Sai's crown jewel the Red-Eyed Demon, quite fittingly, is the most brutal and efficient operative in the organization.

Some information just for you to know is that he was raised directly by the Grandmaster from a young age to be exactly what he has become: the perfect weapon. He's obedient, doesn't speak or interact with anyone beyond the slaying of his victims so he never develops any bonds or attachments, and he lacks any sense of empathy. To the Red-Eyed Demon, his victims are only names on a checklist. They are not human beings. And this lack of acknowledgement for life is part of what makes him so terrifyingly effective.

It's easy to take a life when you don't acknowledge it as a life or anything of meaning.

To date, the Red-Eyed Demon has never failed to close out a mission, has never been caught or cornered, and, allegedly, has never let anyone who dared to attempt any form of interference in his missions live to tell about it. Key word on that last one being "allegedly," as there may yet be a grain of salt to be taken from that claim.

And for those wondering if the GM is going to take this legendary creep as their character, no I'm not. The Red-Eyed Demon is going to be, more or less, the same as Te'i Sai in that he's going to be an occasional NPC who also serves a neutral/antagonistic role to our characters depending on whether or not what we do interferes with his own agenda.

So don't worry about him too much right now. If and when he shows up in the RP, then you can worry in the heat of the moment. But once he leaves, you can go back to relaxing. 😊

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RP RULES!

They're pretty standard, I think!

1) No God-Modding, Metagaming, or Power Playing.

Every character is mortal and can be injured/killed. So it's expected that your character occasionally gets hurt along the way. Especially during times of extreme conflict where you're fighting with more than 2 people at a time. If your character never gets hurt, you and I are going to have words...

Metagaming is bringing your real world knowledge to your character where it otherwise shouldn't exist. An example is if your character is a thief with no medical history suddenly knowing how to perform surgery because you're a doctor IRL and it's convenient for them to suddenly know how since there are no other doctors around to save the character that you're performing surgery on. NO! That character is going to suffer until we find an actual doctor IC. You ain't it!

Power Playing is taking direct control of another player's character without their permission to do so. And this can be as minor as your character does an action and you leave no room for the other player to react as if your character is in a position to do whatever you want to do with no resistance. Your denying them the right to react is Power Playing as you've denied them the chance to control their own character. Don't do dis.

All three are instant-bans from the RP if you're caught doing them. So don't do them! 😄

2) Te'i Sai is (kind of) off limits.

Yes, I know it sucks. But because Te'i Sai's an antagonistic force in the RP, you may not have any history as part of the group.

What I will allow, however, is for your character to have at least seen or encountered them in some kind of indirect way. Doing so is pretty simple, after all. It just takes some lucky timing. Te'i Sai goes to their mission space, finishes the job, and returns to Roda Valley swiftly thereafter. In and out quick. That's what she said!!!

... Ahem...

Yes. There is plenty of opportunity as long as they're in the mission space to have seen them work or try to interfere in some way so long as it was not in "direct conflict" with them. If you're caught observing, Te'i Sai usually just glares you down and then leaves. Or, if you try to interfere like calling for help in an attempt to get them caught, they'll likely beat the dogshit out of you and leave you to lick your wounds since killing you isn't their directive. They consider it a waste of a life to just kill people for being a nuisance.

Antagonist doesn't mean the same thing as "villain," after all. They're not blind murderers. So you're safe as long as you don't go too far.

The reason that direct conflict with Te'i Sai is a "no-no" is because of how Te'i Sai operates while on missions. Te'i Sai operates in cells which are small teams of individuals. The first cell is a three-man team of Master Assassins, and they're called the Enforcer Cell. They take on the actual mission, and do so with ruthless efficiency and speed. The second cell is a two-man team called the Observation Cell. These are also Master Assassins who observe from a respectful distance and make sure nothing unexpected happens. If something unexpected does happen, they waste no time and jump directly into the fray.

So if your character attempts to directly conflict with and fight against this five-man group... You ded. Very, very ded.

3) Respect your fellow role-players.

They're here to enjoy the RP the same as you and they deserve the time, space, patience, and respect to do so that they're giving you. So be kind. Be courteous. And be respectful.

If you ever have a problem with someone, take it up with me in confidence. I will keep the issue quiet between us and resolve it in whatever way I feel best. If a private dispute is ever made public and I determine it to have been done so with malicious intent, the offending party will be removed from the RP regardless of the details of the dispute itself.

Making a private dispute public for the sake of trying to bash whoever you've a problem with is no different from online harassment and cyber bullying since they've no way to defend themselves from it. And I will not stand for this kind of behavior. And if I have to, I will get site moderators involved to investigate the issue further between the offending party and whomever they had a beef with and leave the final determination for what should happen in their capable hands.

So please don't let this happen. It never ends well for anyone. You do you, and let others do their thing. If you have problems, either bring them to me or sort them out respectfully amongst yourselves.

Thanks!

omg omg omg I am so interested in this. I have been ✨ y e a r n i n g ✨ for an RP like this for I cannot tell you how long, literally gonna start work on my character rn

This seems interesting, mind if I take a spot amongst the table and join this rp?

Sweet, I am definitely interested if there are still spots left open!

Terrier B Terrier B , Lazaro1505 Lazaro1505 , Melanin-Gxdess Melanin-Gxdess , Short Round Short Round

Thanks all for your interest!

Since we have around 5 people interested (including myself) I am now going to start putting together some "Extra Pages" for the RP so you can see the entire world you're about to immerse yourselves in before creating your characters. There are a lot of things you need to know about each nation before doing so, after all. Otherwise you'll probably have to go back for edits later.

So please hold off on character creation until I've been able to share the pages with you okay?

Cheers!

This... Took... Way... Too... LONG!!!

Ah well. WORTH IT!!

😂 😂 😂

Nobuzout Nobuzout Thanks for the interest!

The RP is still being constructed, and the "Culture OOC" page I made in the post just before yours is only the first of several pages I'll be making to help flesh out the world so everyone understands it fully before committing to it. So if you'd like to join, please just hold tight for a day or two (since tomorrow's Thanksgiving and all) and I'll get those pages up as soon as I can so everyone has everything they need to understand this world and make a better and more informed decision about joining, and have everything they need to make their characters!

Cheers!

Round of applause for the GM, for typing up such an awesome lore page.

The next page, detailing technology across various aspects of society which are most likely to be explored, is ready!

Last page for the night... I'm exhausted. 😅

Welcome to the 'Underworld!'

(Aka the world of thieves, assassins, bounty hunters, pirates, rogues, etc!)

myrkwise myrkwise Thanks for the interest!

I am done writing extra pages for the night (my poor brain needs rest, lol), so please feel free to read through and see if everything present is something you can and would want to get behind!

If so, please start thinking of any questions that arise so you can ask sooner than later! I love answering questions since they're a way to keep me honest and consistent with my worlds! So don't hold back!

Mep2Mep Mep2Mep Thank you kindly!

Please take your time and check through the threads I've been putting together for the RP when you have time. It's Thanksgiving day...

(Happy Thanksgiving evreyone!)

... So I probably won't be putting together anymore pages today. But I will do so tomorrow and over the weekend. There's still some things about the world and lore that I need to put together so everyone understands as much as they possibly can about this world before making characters.

Cheers!

Hoyo!

I have a new page about a small handful of basic sayings or common phrases used in conversation, as well as an update to the Culture page regarding name suffixes.

Please check the culture page (just above Cre' Est's specific culture info) for that.

But now, the lingual quirks page!

Also, once more I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!!

One final page will arrive tomorrow, along with a general OOC Discussion page where we can chat about the RP, characters, or just shoot the breeze!

Cheers!

Alrighty!

The final page is done (until I think of another page that needs making, lol)!

Welcome to the combat page!!

Here, I go into detail about how combat is taught at both the macro level and the micro level. If you have any questions about combat, don't hesitate to throw them my way! I am, proudly so, a more than 20 year martial arts vet in real life. So if you have any questions whatsoever about the combat in this RP world, just ask!

Enjoy!

And, at long last, the General Discussion OOC page where we can conduct all further conversation about the RP!

I've also provided links to all of the Extra Pages I've created in the first post of this new thread for your convenience (and mine, lol).

Cheers!
