[div class=mainCon][div class=header]Adelaide Watanabe[/div][div class=contentWrap][div class=scrollWrap][div class=textWrap]
This was a terrible idea. Absolutely awful. Whoever came up with said idea should be properly sent to trial. Trial by...trial by something deadly and something super hard to beat.

Sitting alone on a rather expensive couch, Adelaide Watanabe was stuck in her own mind as she thought of all the ways this elusive 'idea' was so bad. An empty red cup was being nursed between her hands and against her thighs, and a loud party hummed and thrashed around her. Fellow students were play beer pong, or something of the sorts, across the room. She was certain she spotted a couple making out, but she couldn't be terribly sure, because she looked away so fast. With the music pounding in her ears, Addy could only come to one cohesive thought.

Why did she agree to come to the party?

Staring down into her cup, it provided no answers to her. There was no concrete reason why she came, and she knew it. Every single time Evie or Gage offered to sweep Adelaide off her feet and to the nearest booze-fest, she politely declined and laced up her skates. Sometimes they pushed, but most of the time they knew better. No means no, and pushing any further will result in a terrible stink eye and a lack of communication for a few days. Yet...This party, Evie said something that made the young skater perk up and hesitantly agree.

Seth was going. And Seth didn't normally go to parties, at least not recently. Normally she saw him whenever he came over for dinner with her sister, but since they broke up two weeks ago...

Yeah, she hadn't seen him in a while. Sure, they saw each other between classes, but it was just too awkward to try and start a conversation. At least, Addy thought so. Anything that involved confrontation was just too much for the young girl, so she dipped in the opposite direction whenever she saw his blonde hair weaving between crowds. But tonight was going to be different. Surely it'd be easier to talk to him after he had a few beers, or maybe even a shot of vodka! They could laugh and talk, so when they saw each other again at school, the awkwardness would of been swallowed up by the booze. They'd dance and sing and the whole thing would be wonderful.

Except she hadn't found Seth yet, and she was currently too petrified to move off the couch. Someone had offered her beer, but she dumped the sour drink down the drain and kept the cup. No one bothered when you already appeared to be drinking, so she just vaguely smiled and nodded whenever someone glanced down at her cup. She had only been at the party for an hour, but she already wanted out. It was starting to become clear Seth wasn't here, or at least coming into this room. Maybe if she saw him on the way out to the door...

Standing up, no one seemed to notice as the young girl began to make her way out of the living room. A few 'excuse me's' were mumbled as she smushed between party-goers, but no one seemed to notice or care over the thump of the music. In fact, she was already getting close to the door. No sign of Seth, but maybe that was a good thing. After all, it could of gone terribly if he was drunk. Evie and Gage were also nowhere to be seen, so it's not like she'd have back-up. Yeah, she was definitely making the right choice leaving right--

"Watch it!" A girl shouted as Addy barreled into her, causing the girl's cup to slosh a bit onto her dress. Nearly freezing up almost at once, Addy raised her hands towards the dress as if to pull the stain right off. Though she instantly stopped the moment she noticed who she bumped into. Hailey stood in front of her, holding the cup in a clenched hand. See, that's why you don't go to parties.

"Seriously, wannabe?" Not her actual last name, but Hailey could never actually pronounce it. At first, it was a cute joke between them. But then they stopped being friends, so it became more of an...insult. Definitely an insult. Judging by the look on her face too, it wasn't the only insult Addy was about to receive.

"Listen, I'm so sorry, I'll just go get you a towel or even some--" Although speaking with good intentions, Addy was instantly cut off as the remaining beer was splashed into her face. Her lips instantly opened into a shocked 'O,' and she stood there in silence for a moment. In fact, majority of the people around them had gone dead silent.

Which made the sound of Addy slapping her much louder.

Instant regret flooded though Addy, but now there was no time to think. In mere seconds, the two girls were suddenly pulling on each other's hair and letting out annoyed screams as they bumped into other people. Party goers were hollering with laughter and whoops of encouragement, and that's all the two needed.

[div class=mainCon][div class=header]Benjamin Carothers[/div][div class=contentWrap][div class=scrollWrap][div class=textWrap]
It wasn't Benji's house but it may as well have been considering how often he frequented the place. Parties here were a staple of their averagely sized high school, and Benji rarely passed up the opportunity to attend one. Not that boy was an alcoholic or a party addict, it simply was nice to occasionally decompress. Hockey could get extraordinarily stressful from time to time, and it was nice to just relax with a drink and act like an idiot. Besides, some of the most fun things in his life thus far happened at parties. After all, without parties he'd have never grown so close to Hailey.

Speaking of Hailey, Benji lifted his eyes from his cup and scanned the party for his girlfriend. Things between them were a bit rocky lately. Well, a bit would likely be an understatement. It was like Hailey was constantly on edge, attacking Benji for the slightest wrong and then ignoring him for days on end. Right now they were in a good period, though. And he was supposed to be with her at this party. Fashionably late was something that Hailey actually followed, and late she was. He'd been waiting at least an hour for the girl to arrive. To no avail.

"Benji, bro. Stop sulking and be my beer pong partner." Benji was tugged from his thoughts by his friend Tyler holding out a ping pong ball to him. He didn't really feel like playing, his mood souring as he considered the fact that Hailey might be standing him up.

Again.

Sometimes Benji wondered why he put himself through this. Why he agonized over a relationship that all his friends said was toxic. But a much larger part of him disregarded those feelings. He knew Hailey was the one for him, and he was okay with looking a bit silly while he waited for her to love him as she did when they first started dating all those years ago.

Benji took the ball and moved over to the table set up in the middle of the room. This worked anyways, as he had a clear view of the front door. Plus, destroying a pair of wasted teens would definitely boost his self esteem. Benji played effortlessly, sinking almost every ball he made yet still sipping the liquid courage that he held in his hand. He personally wasn't drunk, but he definitely was tipsy enough to be fairly bold. As more and more time passed and the alcohol fogged his mind, he was planning out the conversation he'd have with her. He was going to tell her that he wasn't going to take her treating his feelings as not as important.

But all the anger and hostility faded when he saw her walk through the door. She was wearing that dress that she knew he loved, and he wondered if it was intentional. Of course it was, she knew exactly how to play him and it worked every single time. Benji was putty in her hands. He set the ball down on the table, intending to walk over and greet his girlfriend first. But the events that happened next were completely unexpected. Her friend grabbed her a drink, and the instant it was in her hands some clumsy git bumped her and sent the contents sloshing over the dress. It probably wouldn't stain, but the damage was already done.

A situation already shit enough, made worse by a hard slap across Hailey's face. The two girls were upon each other, egged on by cheers and the flashing of phone cameras. Benji inhaled the rest of his drink before crumpling the cup in his hand and shoving through the crowd to get to the middle of the vicious fighting. He always said that women fought far worse than men, and this was first hand proof. Regardless, he wasn't just going to sit back and watch like his peers did. Instead he shouted loudly at both of them, protecting his face as he edged his large body in between the two petite women. It took some time but eventually they separated, though Hailey's face was extraordinarily flushed and very angry.

"Seriously, Benji? You're going to let this bitch get away with hitting me?"

Benji turned to make eye contact with the other girl. Adelaide Wantanabe. A surprising aggressor. There was no doubt that there was an incredibly confused look on his face. Benji didn't even know Adelaide attended parties let alone was aggressive enough to fight someone. What a mess. He turned back to Hailey and offered a shrug of his shoulders. He didn't know what she wanted him to say.

"This is embarrassing." He said simply, resulting in a scoff from Hailey. Clearly it was the wrong answer, as she stormed off to another room in the big house. Benji wanted to follow her, but he knew that it'd be best to let her cool off a bit.

[div class=mainCon][div class=header]Adelaide Watanabe[/div][div class=contentWrap][div class=scrollWrap][div class=textWrap]
Was she in a fight? Oh god good, she was in a fight. Is this how you're supposed to fight someone? Her hair was being pulled on, and she kept bumping into other people around her. Hailey was grunting and shouting at her, but there was a ringing in her ears she couldn't quite place. All she knew is that it really, really hurt, and that she really didn't want to be doing this. Would she get in trouble? She technically started it...Well, Hailey threw her drink on her. That's basically being an aggressor.

Squeezing her eyes shut, Addy was getting ready to let go of Hailey and shove her away. Hopefully that would end the fight. Just as her fingers began to loosen up on her hair, a loud shout startled the girl and she let out a yelp. A moment later, and something-- No, someone, was shoving between her and Hailey. Instantly letting go, Addy took a moment to stumble back and raise her fingers up to her hair. The dull ache rocketed back to her, and she let out a soft groan. Beer was still coating her face, and she didn't want to open her eyes just yet. No doubt it was going to be sticky, which meant the front of her sweater was ruined.

When she finally raised her hands up to her eyes and wiped away the booze, she was peering up at none other than Benji Carothers. Hailey's boyfriend, and hockey jock. Her posture stiffened, and she readied herself to be yelled at. I mean, who wouldn't yell at someone for slapping their girlfriend? God, Addy slapped her. That was really bad, but she just acted on instinct the moment beer was tossed in her face. Though, looking up at Benji, he seemed more confused than angry in the moment. She watched him turn around and just shrug at Hailey.

Addy hadn't had a boyfriend before, but she knew that was a bad move. Definitely a bad move. Slowly trailing her eyes after Hailey as she stormed off, they darted back to look at Benji who remained. Tall and almost intimidating, Addy was unsure what to say. Surely she should say something to him. He broke up the fight, which she was definitely grateful for. At this point, she just wanted to go home.

"H-Hey," she began, cringing at how much her voice shook. She hadn't realized how upset the whole ordeal made her until she spoke, and found herself on the verge of tears. "U-Uh, thanks. Tell H-Hailey I'm sorry, and I really didn't--" She stopped, sucking in her some air and reaching up to wipe away a droplet of beer that nearly rolled into her eye. "A-Actually, I'm just gonna go. Yeah," she muttered out the last part, before promptly shoving past the hockey player and into the crowd. Choruses of 'ooo's' followed her, but she was out in the door in a few seconds and walking across the lawn.

Soon she was running, the dew clinging to her ankles and getting the edges of her jeans wet. Her car lights blinked on as she fumbled her keys from her pocket, and she threw herself into the drivers side. Sitting there in silence, all she could hear was the hammering of her heart and her own heavy breathing. Leaning forward, she pressed her head against the steering wheel and let out a shaky exhale.

Why had she come to the party again?

Benji stood almost frozen in his place, shifting slightly when Addy's wavering voice broke the awkward tension. Was she going to cry? The concern etched itself onto his face, crinkling the corners of his eyes with worry. If she cried here, she would never be able to live it down. High-schoolers were vicious in that way, and while Benji could break up a physical fight, there wasn't much he could do about mocking and tormenting that came with crying at a party. But before he could even say anything, the small girl was pushing past him and out of the front door. The crowd was no help, watching the spectacle as if it were some TV programming.

"Alright guys, back off," Benji said, a bite in his voice. He didn't have to yell, they respected him enough to listen to his words. Within seconds the party was back in full swing, laughing and dancing as if nothing had happened. But Benji didn't reclaim his spot at the beer pong table. Instead, he ran a hand through his disheveled hair. Eyes glancing in the direction where Hailey disappeared then back at the front door. Then again. And again... With a soft 'fuck it', Benji spun on his heels towards the door and he decided to follow after Addy. Probably wasn't the best idea to drive while so highly emotional.

Benji walked calmly towards the sole car that had its lights on, hoping that Addy would be understanding about why he came after her. Soon, he was standing outside of the driver's side door, peering in curiously at her hunched over figure. In another situation, he may have laughed. But in this one he used two knuckles to rap on her window, lifting his eyebrows at the girl within.

"Watanabe. You alright in there? I know Hailey can be a little much sometimes but try not to let it get to you so much. Trust me, we've all gotten into little-"

The ginger was cut off by shrill shouting coming from the front porch. Apparently one of Hailey's minions informed her that Benji had decided to go comfort Addy as opposed to her. Benji was checking all the "what not to do boxes" on Hailey's list, and as he straightened a long sigh escaped him. He truly did feel like he loved her, but sometimes she knew exactly how to annoy the living daylights out of him.

"Benjamin Carothers! You made a big mistake! If you like her so much, then why don't you date her? We. Are. Done."

Benji couldn't even respond, because as soon as she finished talking she disappeared back into the house. Honestly, by this point, Benji was used to the public breakups. The pair was probably the most notorious on-again, off-again couple in the school. But after she left him waiting for hours, started a fight, and then made a spectacle out of breaking up with him Benji didn't exactly feel up to chasing her around and trying to convince her why they were right. Not tonight at least. Though the boy may not be above sending her a long string of texts later.

Leaning back down and looking into the car again, Benji hesitated for a second. "You mind giving me a ride home? I came with someone else but I don't exactly feel like sticking around much longer. Might get crucified by Hailey's little squad."

His words were light and jovial, but there was definitely a sadness behind them. No matter how many times she broke up with him it still hurt.

Keeping her head firmly against the steering wheel, Addy was mentally preparing herself to actually put the car in reverse and drive home. She was fine! Just a little gross in the face, and her head really hurt. Hailey's nails were so long, they likely scratched her scalp once or twice. But she was totally fine, and everything was good. She'd have to thank Benji tomorrow properly, but he probably wouldn't like that. She wouldn't be surprised if he was actually pissed off at her, and just didn't want to get caught shoving a girl at a party.

Slowly lifting her head off the steering wheel with an exhale, Addy shifted her hand over her face slowly. Finally calming down a little bit, another exhale sounded as she opened her eyes up. It wasn't as bad as she thought it was, she reminded herself. She'd just go home and sleep it off, and keep on moving forward. However, her momentary bliss and self-motivation was short lived. The sound of knuckles tapping against her window startled her to look over, and soon she was staring at Benji Carothers with wide eyes. Oh, so she wasn't off the hook. He was just waiting until she was outside to knock her out. Her lips parted to begin her apology, though her finger was resting against the lock for her car.

She hesitated in her movements, however, when she heard his muffled voice through the window. Confusion blossomed over her face as she took it all in, before releasing what was going on. Benji was checking on her. Her agape mouth closed so she didn't seem like an idiot, but the shocked expression was still present in her eyes. If he had run out this quickly to check on her, that means he must of left Hailey.

Which even she knew was a mistake. Her gaze flickered behind him, just as Hailey appeared on the porch to screech like a banshee at him. Benji was straightening up so Addy couldn't see his expression, but she could only imagine it was one that was upset. Hailey was very publicly breaking up with him, declaring that Benji should even date Addy if he liked her so much. Addy knew they broke up often, but this seemed a little over the top. She didn't know Benji all too well as they grew older, but surely he didn't deserve something so upsetting to happen in public. Screwing her lips together, Addy shifted her finger off the lock and onto the window so it slowly rolled down. She intended to say something to him, but what the hell should she say?

Hey, I'm sorry your girlfriend just broke up with you because we got into a fight after I bumped into her, and you decided to check on me first for some reason. No hard feelings, right?

Yeah, that wasn't gonna cut it. Instead, she was left silently staring at Benji as he bent back over. Addy widened her gaze slightly at his request, and she was silent for a moment. Oh, she definitely needed to say no. If Hailey heard she had given him a ride home after their breakup, she'd be hunted down the next morning and mounted on the wall like an overzealous buck. But when she finally spoke again, she was going in the complete opposite direction.

"Yeah--I mean no, I don't mind. I meant I'll give you the ride, not..." Trailing off, she just sighed loudly and leaned across the seat. Her fingers curled around the door handle, and she pushed it open a bit for him. Moving back to press herself against her own chair, she just ran her fingers over her hair and glanced into her side mirror. She dropped her hand down to her pocket, before taking her phone out and handing it to him.

"Just put your address in the GPS, and then stick it on the little holder right there," she said, pointing at the old holder hooked to one of her AC vents. After instructing him to do so, she went ahead and started the car up.

"Listen, I'm really sorry...For like, everything. I don't normally do parties, I really didn't mean to bump into her," she finally said, keeping her gaze locked ahead on the road. At least she apologized, even if she couldn't look him in the face.

Benji lifted his eyebrows at the petite girl within the car as she slowly rolled down the window, not all the way but enough for them to be able to hear each other without straining. His finger rapped rhythmically on the roof of her car as he waited patiently for Addy to answer his request. Honestly, he was probably taking advantage of her a bit. Though the question may have flustered her a bit, he highly doubted that she'd refuse him. After all, the guy just got brutally dumped right in front of her. It was only humane that she have some pity for him.

His suspicions were confirmed when she stuttered out an affirmative and he patted the roof of the car twice before slinking over to the passenger side. He waited until he heard the telltale sound of the door unlocking before tugging it open and plopping himself inside, not bothering with the seat belt despite the car's incessant dinging. He looked so relaxed and at home, despite having never set foot in Addy's vehicle once in his life. It was a talent of his, feeling comfortable in many settings. It was what drew so many people to him. What grabbed their attention.

He took the phone from Addy's hands, finding her willingness to hand over the device interesting. Benji didn't exactly have anything to hide, but he'd be more likely to ask for the address directly than hand his iPhone over. He snuck a glance at Addy before swiping out of the GPS app and into messages. Though there was no time for snooping, there was plenty for the action he had in mind. He opened a new thread and entered his phone number, shooting himself a silly smiley emoji before deleting. Now he had her phone number. What he would use it for? He wasn't sure yet.

Swiping back to the GPS app, Benji entered his address and placed it in the holder as directed. A dinky little setup but it worked plenty fine. Once she started the car, Benji reached forward and started fiddling with the radio. He listened as he spoke but kept his hands busy with the "seek channel" button. Perhaps if he redirected his attention, Addy wouldn't notice that he was quite a bit upset by the events that just transpired.

"You don't have to apologize," he said quickly, nearly chopping off the end of her sentence with his own. The car lurched forward and they were on their way, a ten-minute ride until they reached the Carothers' residence. Though Addy couldn't look Benji in the face, he didn't mind much. He rested his head against the passenger side window, his soft hair smudging the clean glass only slightly. He had given up on searching for music, settling on a station playing "Today's greatest hits" but turning the volume down to where the music was but a low hum filling the awkward silence of the car.

"I mean it. Sometimes Hailey is just looking to pick a fight with people. You were just on the wrong side of her wrath tonight. If it wasn't you, it'd have been someone else." He sighed a bit as he fished his phone from his pocket. His eyes lit up when he spotted a text notification but dimmed considerably when he unlocked his phone and found it to just be the text he sent himself from Addy's phone. Guess that was a bit of karma for him. He turned his phone over in his hands a few times before turning towards Addy.

"As for the break-up, it'll be ok. She'll come back. She always comes back." Though he seemed confident enough when he said it, there was a hint of doubt in his voice. You can only break something so many times before it becomes unfixable.

When the car shifted with the new weight added, Addy took a moment to inhale and exhale. Just a little ride home, surely it wouldn't mean anything. Hailey should appreciate it, especially if Benji was drinking.

Yeah, just keep telling yourself that, Adelaide.

Her gaze shifted to the side as he held her phone, but she didn't keep her eyes locked onto him. Her messages were pretty dry, besides a few recent conversations. Did she trust him enough not to snoop? Not really, but she didn't really have a choice. She did just give him her phone, after all. Surely he'd just put his address in anyway. A moment later, and the GPS was set up in her site. Nothing to worry about. The car lurched forward, and soon they were pulling away from the loud party.

The beeping continued for his seatbelt, and she swallowed thickly as he spoke to her. Music was softly humming from the speakers in her car, Addy hadn't even noticed he turned it on. Better than an awkward silence, but what he said left a sour taste in her mouth. She knew Hailey, but she didn't really know Benji that well. He seemed sweet nice, which begged the question of why he kept going back to her. Even as she drove, it was almost like she could sense the desperation on her. A text from someone lit his eyes up, but she could tell it wasn't from the girl he wanted to speak to by the way his expression dimmed instantly.

Letting out a slight cough, Addy raised her hand up and pressed a button on her console. The music switched over to something more lo-fi, and she turned her head over to him for a second. "If you could, the seatbelt," she muttered out, before coughing again and looking forward. Her lips pressed together, and she tilted her head to the side with a sigh. No, she had to say something to him.

"Listen, I'm not really that experienced with relationships, but don't you think this is all...kinda unhealthy?" She offered to him, keeping her eyes on the road. Passing headlights lit up the car for moments at a time, illuminating her glum expression. "I'm not trying to butt-in or anything, I know how that is, and it's pretty shitty. One time my brother-" She paused, looking over at him quickly. A slight blush overtook her features as she realized her almost-rant, before she cleared her throat again.

"I just used to be friends with Hailey for a while, you probably know. I think it's kinda unfair how often you guys break up. But again, no relationship experience here!" She added on quickly, before sneaking another look at Benji. Even if she liked Seth, Benji was definitely something. Soft hair, cute features. She always saw him at practice whenever she was leaving, but never talked to him. After all, she didn't have much of a reason to. He was dating Hailey, and Hailey would nail her ass to the ceiling fan if she even thought Addy was checking out her man.

Realizing there was a drag of silence, Addy quickly attempted to lighten the mood up again before he could reply to her unasked for dating advice. "That was actually my first party, and my first fight. I think it'll be my last for both, though," she said with a light tone, offering a shaky smile over to the boy. Even if she tried to hide it herself, the entire ordeal had shaken her up.

"If you could, the seatbelt."

Benji looked up at Addy, eyes locking for a second before she averted her gaze away and back to the road. He didn't look away for slightly longer, studying her expression for a short while. She seemed nervous. Very nervous. He felt a bit bad. Was it the circumstance or was Addy always like this around Benji? He didn't pay enough attention to the girl in the past to know the answer to that question. Of course, he wasn't going to ask her. So instead, he redirected his attention to his seatbelt, struggling with it for just a minute before clicking it into place. Seatbelts were the bane of his existence and normally he skipped what he deemed a silly ritual of restraining yourself to your car. But he was a guest in this vehicle, and she'd asked nicely.

The ride was painfully awkward. Long periods of silence only cut by the lo-fi music that Addy switched the radio to. He could see her struggling with something out of the corner of his eye. It seemed like she desperately wanted to say something but instead of words, she kept coughing. An interesting quirk and Benji had half a mind to make a joke of hoping she wasn't contagious. But as he turned and opened his mouth to speak, Addy beat him to the punch. She interjected with a bit of a prolific statement about how she viewed his relationship. His expressive eyebrows lifted, partially in shock but partially in interest as well. She thought his relationship with Hailey was unhealthy? Well, that was quite the unasked for opinion.

Before he could say anything, she spoke up again. She thought it was unfair too? He noticed her attempt to sneak another glance at him, but instead of meeting her eyes he turned and stared out of the window. He wanted to be angry. He wanted to defend his relationship. Sure he and Hailey had rough patches, but it was normal, wasn't it? Couples weren't how they were portrayed in movies. Effortless and without argument. Two people who simply made sense and went together like fine cheese and wine. Sometimes, such as in the case of Benji and Hailey, you have to force the pieces together. And that was okay too. At least in Benji's mind. His annoyance was evident, but he still understood what she was saying. It must have looked horrid from the outside.

"That was actually my first party and my first fight. I think it'll be my last for both, though."

Benji snorted a pleasant laugh, casting his gaze back at Addy. She smiled at him and he smiled back, his mild annoyance buried for now. "I could tell. For both of those. Open hand hitting? Come on! Draw some blood, Watanabe." Benji formed two fists and playfully batted at the console in front of him. "One, two! One, two! Oh! Total knockout! Watanabe is victorious!" He lifted Addy's hand that had been gently resting on the gear shift and made silly cheering noises. Just as quickly as he grabbed her hand, he released it, but there was an amused twinkle in his glittering eyes.

"You know," he started after calming down from his previous joke. "I understand what you're saying. Hailey and I probably look extremely bad from the outside. Things between us aren't always like that. We've had some really good times. It's just you wouldn't know about this. How relationships work or anything. I've never seen you with a boyfriend so... how would you know what's toxic and what's not."

Benji spoke matter-of-factly, not considering how his careless words might make Addy feel.

Was he staring at her? Was it super uncool to ask him to put his seatbelt on? Oh no, Addy was being really lame. But at the same time...She didn't want him to die if someone decides to ram into them and he goes flying through the windshield. She'd just feel terrible if that happened. Her gaze darted quickly to the side to notice his continued gaze, but he was soon redirecting his attention to the seatbelt and clicking it into the place with a moment of struggle.

Though she had considered that to be the most awkward moment of the ride, she was in for a shock after her little outburst of deep and unwarranted advice. Oh no, he didn't want to hear that. She instantly felt her cheeks heating up when she attempted to catch his gaze, but he was already looking out the window. Is this the part where he was going to smack the living daylight out of her? Surely not, they were driving! Unless he was just that reckless. He did try to go on their little trip without his seatbelt. It was a recipe for danger.

However, she was pleasantly shocked when she heard Benji laughed. Had she really said something funny? She considered her statement something serious; She was never, ever going to another party again. Nor was going to fight someone, because it was absolutely awful. As they pulled up to a red light, Addy was able to fully focus on him as he began to pretend punch at her console. A small laugh slipped from her lips, though it was replaced with a squeak when he lifted her free hand up into the air as a sign of victory. A light blush hinted at her cheeks, though it was mostly out of embarrassment. Her friends never really joked around like he did, so it came as a bit of a shock for the young girl. Still, another laugh trickled free from her mouth as the light turned green and she accelerated slowly.

Maybe this wasn't so bad. Benji seemed like a nice dude, which further confused her as to why he wanted to date Hailey. She was just nasty to everyone, and from what she had heard about their breakups, he was no exception. Pressing her lips together, the next thing he said slapped the light blush of laughter off her cheeks and made her widen her eyes. A shocked laugh slipped from her lips, and she widened her eyes for a moment as she looked over at him. Looks like he said the wrong thing.

"Seriously?" She said, the shy tone from before suddenly gone. What he had said flipped a switch for Addy. "Just because I haven't had a boyfriend, doesn't mean I don't know what's toxic," she began, flattening her palms against the wheel and spreading her fingers outward to show her exasperation. "I'm not an idiot, Benji Carothers. I'm sure Hailey likes to say otherwise, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out what is and isn't healthy when it comes to a relationship!" She exclaimed, before suddenly hitting the brakes as the light shifted to red. A loud exhale sounded, and she turned to him with a finger pointed at his face.

"I'm not trying to dictate your relationships or whatever, but ask your friends for their honest opinions on you and Hailey. If they have any balls, they'll say the same thing I did," she said firmly, a certain determination in her eyes. The lights outside flashed green on her face, and she sped up again. They were rapidly approaching his home, and Addy now seemed far more worked up than when she was fighting Hailey inside.

The car slowed down, before the GPS announced in a chipper voice that they've reached their destination. She shifted the car into park, before the locks sounded as the car opened up. Addy sat there, before scrubbing her hands at her face and running them over her sticky hair. The beer had dried, which left odd strands of brown hair sticking up and out.

"We're here."

[div class=mainCon][div class=header]Benjamin Carothers[/div][div class=contentWrap][div class=scrollWrap][div class=textWrap]
Benji was doing great at angering women tonight, and he cringed inwardly as Addie laid into him about what he said. In hindsight, he probably shouldn't have said that. Her words made him really just how stupid what he said was. Of course, she didn't need the first-hand experience to know what was healthy and what was not in a relationship. But that didn't necessarily mean that was wanted Benji wanted to hear. He wanted to be consoled. He wanted to be told that everything between him and Hailey would work out for the better. That this was just a minor hiccup in their story that the two would laugh about once they were old and happy together. Although, he found it a bit strange that he still wanted that, even if there was part of him that wasn't even sure if it was still worth it.

Either way, Benji had totally killed the mood in the car. Their shared moment of laughter and playfulness now overshadowed by the heavy awkwardness in the car. Benji stared out of his side of the windshield trying to craft the best way to apologize. He'd never been the best with his words, so he worried that anything that he'd say would just increase the tension between the two. And right now it was so palpable that an eager bystander could cut it with a knife. Benji was still so stuck in his thoughts that he didn't even notice the car rolling to a stop outside of his home. He was still staring out the window when Addie's curt voice abruptly cut the silence.

"We're here."

Benji blinked twice, seemingly surprised that he hadn't recognized his own neighborhood. For a brief moment, he was embarrassed but he gathered himself quickly and pushed open the car door. He toppled out a bit clumsily before turning on his heels and bending over so that his face was in the opening the car door left.

"Well, thanks again for the ride, Watanabe. Your driving is much more reasonable than my friends'. Honestly, with all the seatbelts undone you'd likely have a brain aneurysm so... Remind me to never allow them to chauffeur you." His lame attempts at joking were an attempt to lighten the mood and he hesitated for just a moment before closing the car door. Retreating up the stairs to his moderately sized home, Benji gave a fleeting wave before ducking inside and locking the door. No one inside was awake, thankfully. It would have been awkward to try explaining why a girl who wasn't Hailey just dropped him off at home. The kids at school weren't the only ones growing weary of the back and forth between the two.

Benji collapsed on the couch, not even bothering to take his shoes off as he lifted his feet up on the couch. In an instant his phone was out of his pocket, and he was typing before fulling processing what he was doing.

"Hi." He waited about a minute, frowning when he didn't get a response immediately before wanting to smack himself on the forehead.

"Right you're driving. Leave it to Watanabe to never text and drive. Such patience." Another minute passed before he couldn't help himself. He typed out yet another message.

"I forgot to apologize for being a total jerk wad. I totally instigated that. Text me back when you get home safe.
-Benji"

Maybe it was the fact Addy had been in her first fight and her adrenaline was pumping, but the young girl was red in the cheeks from her little rant. She had shifted her hands to grip the steering wheel tightly, which was probably for the best. She was feeling extra bold and worked up tonight, so she didn't exactly trust her own hands. Smacking Benji would be an idiotic thing to do, but the thought of it sure sounded appealing in the moment. Just one little smack wouldn't hurt, right? He played hockey, after all. They smacked each other all the time.

No, that was wrong. Shaking the thought from her head, Addy turned her attention over Benji once again when she heard the car door click open. His exit was less than graceful, and she couldn't help the slight smirk that tugged at the corner of her lips when she saw him stumble. She was quick to wipe it away when he looked back, however. He had to know she was angry, so she put on her best pout as she listened to him. Yeah, pouts weren't exactly the best way of expressing anger.

Exhaling slowly once he finished, Addy flattened her palms against the wheel and gave him a weak shrug. "Oh, yeah. You know, I'd probably never really be...riding with them," she said, the statement coming out flat. She cringed internally at how it sounded, but she couldn't exactly take it back now. Just gonna have to live with that one, and every other awkward interaction the two had this evening. This is why parties were stupid.

"I'll see you at school!" She added as the door shut, before biting her lip and looking forward again. The events of the nights started to slowly dawn on her, and she let out a groan as she dropped her head forward against the wheel. Instantly, the horn sounded and she let out a rather girlish shriek as she jumped backwards. Her eyes shot over to the doorway to catch the end of Benji's wave. Jesus, she was a mess. Not as messy as he was, but definitely a mess.

Quickly putting her car in drive, Addy couldn't drive away fast enough from the Carother's household. She smelled like beer, her hair was a sticky mess, and she just wanted to lay down. It wasn't even that late, but she was already considering going to bed. Maybe she'd pop on some Netflix first...Always good to fall asleep to the sounds of Jane the Virgin. Her phone buzzed once her pocket, then twice. Probably Evie or Gage asking her where the hell she went. (And about time, too.) She'd answer them when she got home, and after a good shower.

Pulling up to her own home, Addy was quick to slip inside. Lights were still on in random rooms, indicating that Thomas was likely awake. The kid never went to sleep on time, despite the nagging he received. Letting out a slight sigh as she shut the door, Addy leaned back against the oak and pulled her phone out from her pocket. A bit of confusion overtook her features at the unknown number, though the second message was signed by none other than Benji.

How did he even get her number?

Frowning a bit, Addy leaned forward to peer down the hall. No one was there, so she found herself slipping her boots off and shuffling towards the living room. She'd just grab her laptop from the couch, then head upstairs to take a shower. And also answer Benji, apparently. Something she was already overthinking way too much. Should she be aloof because she was annoyed with him? He did apologize, maybe a cute little message would suffice. No, that's basically flirting. She didn't want to flirt with him.

Still staring at her phone as she picked up her laptop with her free hand, a frustrated grumble sounded from the young girl as she moved up the stairs. She had never texted a dude like him before, and she didn't want to sound like a total idiot. The door of her bedroom was pushed open, and her laptop was tossed onto her rather messy bed. Instead of following it, Addy walked around and dropped down between her bed and her desk. Her phone was dropped against her shaggy rug as she bent over, and her fingers stretched out under her bed to hook against a ribbon.

Bingo.

Tugging the box forward and out, Addy let out another sigh. The lid had become slightly dislodged when she tugged it, and she fully removed it a moment later. The box itself was pretty beat up, but the content inside was perfectly preserved. Five letters, all in different envelopes. Her hand dropped down to run over the crisp paper, before she settled onto a baby blue one. She gently picked it up, and read the name she had wrote in cursive letters on the front.

'Benjamin Carothers. ❤ '

Addy wasn't going to read the letter, she didn't need to. She knew the exact contents of what she wrote, and just how embarrassing it was. When she had a crush on Benji, all she could think about were his blue eyes and red hair. Her seventh grade self had no qualms writing terrible metaphors, and professing her love for the young boy. Maybe she should read it, just for old times sake...

"What are you doing?" A male voice rung out in her doorway, and Addy widened her eyes as she quickly dropped the letter back into the box and shoved it under her bed. Her younger brother Thomas stood in the doorway, shirtless and ready for bed. Her cheeks instantly heated up at being caught, and after she grabbed her phone, she popped back to her feet to innocently perch against her bed.

"Nothing, just looking at some...homework. Why are you still awake? You know dad hates it when you're up late," she chided, and Thomas simply rolled his eyes at her. Boys were just too much sometimes. "Whatever, get out of my room. I need to take a shower," she added, walking around to nudge the young boy forward and into the hall as she shut the door behind her. Thomas sniffed at the air, before his eyes widened.

"You were drinking beer! I'm totally gonna tell dad." He exclaimed, before Addy put one hand over his mouth and grabbed his arm with another.

"No, I was not drinking beer! Someone spilled some on me, so that's why I left the party. If you don't tell dad, I won't tell him you were up this late. Deal?" She asked, and the young boy quickly nodded his head as she released him. A sigh of relief sounded, and the young girl walked on to the bathroom. Her eyes were back on her phone, and she didn't even notice Thomas slip into her room as she shut the bathroom door.

A single text was sent back to Benji at first.

'I got home fine, don't worry about me. It's alright, I hope you feel better. P.S, how did you get my number? - Addy."

A second later, and his phone pinged again with a cute bird emoji giving a thumbs up. Putting her phone down, Addy sighed and stepped into the shower. It was time to just relax for a bit, finally.
