Experiences Longest Running RPs

The All-Powerful Enzyme!
Hello, everyone! I am currently on the third instillation of a 4 year trilogy on the Irish Mob! With over 2K replies and a 38k word count on the third book so far - I am curious what your guys’ longest RP series has been on RPN or the longest you’ve seen?

On RPN? Like .... three posts each. XD (I have an off-site RP with a partner I found here which is much longer than that though.)

Off RPN:
1x1: 8 years, 300,000+ words total
Group: 2.5ish years, at least 110,000 words just for my MC but hard to work out the total word count as there was a lot of different scenes and threads among various people.

I will reference one outsider, as it is the foundation for the RPN experience detailed below it. It shall be summarized to not emphasize the outsider, while the RPN title shall be focused upon. This may be changed if asked about.

The longest series I've participated in and have seen was off site. "SBWW", and when it got brought here after the end of it's 5 RP run or so, it renamed RPNWW I believe. It was a post apocalyptic RP that was like a multi-universe due to fallout factions, original, and TES nations existing in it. It went extremely beyond 100 pages. About around or over 200, but the maximum i'd go is more so around 300 cap. I remember specifically seeing either a page 188 or a page 288. With varying lengths of the others. Overall the series basically went for about nearly a thousand pages when also combined with the three or more from the title removed from here. The posts didn't have a length limit, but the average to maximum seen throughout varied wildly between 5 lines [1 paragraph.] to 20 paragraphs. This is the standard, and an accurate consistent number can not be given. The battles were detailed immensely, so that in of itself varied depending upon what person you looked at. Which someone could be extremely simplistic, stating numbers, maybe referencing the status of their position, some dialogue at best, and an action. All the way to users that wrote every possible detail and the status of troop morale, that it might as well been VR like the matrix in textular form. If it was muddy upon the fields, you could bet a few paragraphs dedicated entirely to just describing the mud, its effects upon the war effort, and how field units had to deal with it. As well as the random odd throwaway lines about sudden mishaps. These being also accompanied by reference pictures, a number of which screencapped from video games under context that fit the scene.

World of tomorrow, modernly known as WoT-"0I", by Agent141.
Before they deleted the Congress posts and some posts that just so happened to have them, combined with the standard posts and all, it nailed basically 100. Ironically, not every post was slaughtered. And I plan at some point to find and ask a staff member if I or Agent could reaccess the threads that were locked off from public viewing, for the purposes of history archiving. [As none of the OG members of the community have their histories, and in later installments had to rewrite it and act as if IC the history had been lost.]

It is a RP inspired by an RP another community I was in put up on here when arriving before Beothiah deleted it. It got a space spinoff that basically had nothing really happen in it for two pages besides one interaction. Then we had a sequel of the original that went up maybe originally 10 pages but probably is just five now. The events in that was more properly based around existing diplomatic relations from after the original. Overall, 107 pages maybe???. Which is ironic, as one player said the first RP would die off before ever reaching a hundred. Then got stunned to find out that more than one came out. I might perform a nier with it for my own idea, basically an RP that seems like an entirely different RP, but could relate to the same universe. Though depending on how a sequel goes and the ruleset system works out, I might ditch it to make up my own. Though it's difficult getting traction here than others, so my RPing may transcend to some sort of video game or VR chat room in the future instead. Easier to find passionate people that commit when it is applicable to do so.

I shall start off unchronologically speaking. Going the the shortest to the longest.
Future of man, RipSaidCone. 2 pages.

FoM was a space RP that was in the same universe. Since there was no real in-between, nobody besides one state actually knew what they'd be by that point in the very future. So everyone retained some sort of fandomy element that fit into the setting, but usually just the appearance at most. The most that happened in it was standard communication and peace, and trade deals. The more interesting was Fishmanlord's interactions in deep space. I spent my time to cruising deep space too, detailing space flight in terms of actions, and discovering a rogue planet. Besides that, nothing really happened. I assume it died because I believe everyone was also trying to be in Rifles and Runes, which ended up being far more popular before it's "sequel" gutted it permanently. In terms of relations, most larger bros were friendly, and everyone else but fish was neutral. Fish and their stone fleet descendants of the rockian kingdom was basically armed neutrality and sometimes pirates if their CS has anything implied. The year was 3607.

The Second Day, Fishmanlord, 5 pages [publicly.]
The second day was an actual sequel based on what the original RP was meant to be. It was a mostly modern tech RP that took place 50 years in the future from the original. Here we already experience natural progression of the states developments, and relational opinion. Vestans were pretty much the most advanced society, as they utilized mass drivers and retained their robotics technology. [Based upon the fact of my knowledge of modern technology, but assumed that all the standard tech available on this very date today was basically stuffed into one body. Though it appears more sophisticated tech exists today than I was expecting.]

In terms of political geography, it was more or less the exact same as the original but more refined, as if actually progressed. Albeit most people's progression was expressed more so within their CSes. We still had the monarchies continued on by success and and momentum, socialists, technocrats, democracy types, and then introduced several new ones. Would be greater world powers such as the unified Africa by this point had collapsed. Some nation's became larger, others smaller. Now we will separate the relationships of countries between the expectation, and the reality.

Politics:
The Americans are irked by the Canadian Rockies, and retains most of the lands on start of the Vestans. They are practically in an alliance consisting of all of Europe, the Cascadians which is just US and Central America, Asia/Eclipse, some greenlanders, Oceania/southeast Asia, and during the RP supported the Japanese and some African parties. All nations in this alliance are also allied. With only the Vestans and Rockians allied, maybe not in an alliance or pact, and Africa - Ukraine neutral. Most parties trade with and to each other.

In reality, it was not that. It was anything but that lmao.
1: Cascadia, Eclipse, the university by alteras, and whatever England chose for their name at that time were allied.
2: All the mentioned alliance members were in it, but the supported neutral states such as one in Africa were not and not everybody supported them.
3: The Imperial Russians and Ukraine were allied, and supported each other. The Russians also would help prevent Greenlander state "rising empire" from doing anything with Ukraine.
4: Most of the African countries hated each other, and was a resource dump for support which didn't last too long nor beneficial.
5: NOTA alliance trade probably was mostly between Eclipse [the muscle boi] and Cascadia [brain boi], because everyone else either sold stuff at outrageously high prices, or didn't actively participate. They at some point also experienced the loss of Russia, and alongside it any chance of getting Ukraine. Splitting Europe in half again.
6: Ordarians or basically the British didn't accept Japanese independence. They got muscled into it by other nationalities' diplomats recognizing them, and in of itself accepting them if they joined the alliance.
7: The Imperial Russian faction, Rockians, Vestans, and Ukrainians never recognized Greenlander control over greater Poland, the ownership of Norway, Sweden, Poland, bits of Germany, Ukraine, other Baltic states, massive chunks of European Russia, and bits of Romania, by Poland. Allied to one of the Russian factions, the then ruling constitutional-esque but not fully monarchial party planned to remove Greenland out of Europe for about at least 30 years if not the full 50. They're use of the Greenlanders as a tool having expired, and the puppet state to communicate through to them becoming an independent party of the coalition.
8: Politics become even more anarchic to the general system, as early on the Russians, newly independent Finnish, and Ukrainians are presented with a European centralized alliance, the E.S.A. or the then called, Eastern Sovereignty Alliance.
9: After formation with the first official member, Ukraine, the final stages of the great war begins after all those years. The military bolstered further by the feared premise that a rogue Eclipsian force would invade and conquer it. A variety of ballistic missile submarines are deployed in the northern Arctic, Baltic sea, and towards Iceland and the rest of the Navy is launched on patrol with some fleets heading toward Scandinavia and Poland.
10: After the surprise bombardment of Iceland, Greenland, Poland, Sweden, and a few more are completed, they run off back home while the border forces March into Scandinavia with Amphibious and ground teams, and the states of Estonia and below are assaulted by Russia and Ukraine. A successful trick allowed a specialized force by large supply trains disguised as the Greenlander's ally, to effectively get deeper inside Estonia. Russia flaunts some of it's advanced technological specializations, missile range. Also given to the Ukrainian joint fleet, they wipe out two large greenlander fleets, the Baltic fleet and Scandinavian fleet. The former is eradicated by the Ukrainians before the Risers can enter engagement ranges, and the Scandinavian fleet is reduced and threatened. Presumably, the fleet surrenders or is destroyed. [As the events were not continued and the state had collapsed soon after.]
11: After the Greenlanders are overwhelmed out of Europe, even as Eclipse momentarily supplied them before the greenlanders bombed civilian populations, the Rockians assault Greenlander Canadian islands, and the Vestans assault Greenland. The Greenlanders collapse, and new states are formed as the two figure out what to do with Greenland. At some point during the fight, the ESA is condemned by the Eclipse for the war and how they have threatened world balance into potentially becoming more. The University around the early stages of the European war ends up seeing all the conflicts and African war progression, and perform a move akin to pulling out of the global stock market. A NOTA fleet gets sent into the artic circle for peacekeeping intimidation early in the war with the Risers never to be heard from again. Presumably, having become disbanded and returned to other operations. Russia continues patrolling their sea territoriez and lanes, which involve svalbard, the San Josef islands, all the way to the end of Russian occupied Siberia. Russia continues muscle flexing in every political related event. A time after the end of the conflict, the Rockians invade the Eclipsisn Federation.

It did not get better.

12: With a threat to sovereignty in Europe gone, the ESA begins referendums on Scandinavian and European countries. By this point, the war between Ukraine and Germany, prior to at least most of all this, is nearing an end as Germany itself is now invaded. Poland is freed, and the tensions between Russia and Eclipse have effectively risen after the condemnation and support of a already labeled prior-to-incident terrorist state. Russia watches of the Eclipse and Rockians fight. Cascadia fell down a spiral and collapsed to anarchy after a variety of independence protests, scandals, and a few other odds. After some time [Months or years depending on how one views the material by that point.] The political tensions snapped. The final stage of the world war had begun. Russia went to the war against the Eclipse under the guise of supporting Rockian claims as a form of repayment as per also mentioned in the ESA extension, whereas the Vestans were given raw materials and all. They call in the Ukrainians to war. The Eclipse finds itself surrounded by Ukrainians, Russians, Canadians, opportunistic Africans, and others. As time goes on, Eclipse is removed from Europe, most Russian territories including far eastern Siberia, but exempting bits of the Caucasus, and retreats from major centers in India, Chunks of China, Runs out of most of the middle east, and runs out of most of their home territories of Kazakhstan. They form a massive defensive wall around their remaining territories, and mined the lands. Civilians and presumably numbers of troops are left behind. Eclipsian troops in surrounded pockets such as in Russia end up being missile bombarded and starved out. Mimicking the ancient Japanese and immense will to fight, the Russians prepare to utilize their equivalents of nuclear weaponry on the Federation. However as before, the war proceeds with varying progress, rendering the option relegated to a lessened standby. In event the war waged on beyond acceptable limitation, the nearing completion submarine project, broken angel, was planned for heavy prolonged bombardment of the Eclipsian Federation with weapons of mass destruction. The Russians in Europe reformed a larger portion of their army for a death march to the Eclipsian capital.

13: While effective, the Eclipsians had their defensive lines too regressed territorially. The Russians entered maximum firing range of conventional systems, and maximum effective firing range of ballistic launchers. Air travel was easily denied, and intensive bombardment of the capital commenced without possible retaliation by defending forces. Systems incapable of targeting the city were refocused upon defensive lines. The city if effectively wiped out as a strategic target, and considered no longer a priority target and useless. [Canon ooc agreement following.] The main force relocates to try engaging the second capital of Solaris, while a tiny remainder group proceeds into the wreckage of the city to fight over dust and rubble. They lose the battle, but the lines do not move. The Eclipsians then widened up but not fully aware of engagement ranges, make a multi-layered defense for their last governing capability city to bizarre distances away. As some lines are intentionally abandoned after fights to bolster the next, or others yeeted, they near the final line only to be swarmed by Eclipsians emerging from underground tunnels enabling assault from all sides. The city is saved. [Any further results if the sequel happens will be affected based upon a variety of factors. But it would seem the war ends basically like a white truce, but if other powers still gained land.]

And that's pretty much the major events, outside assault of one city near Baikal. But I'm still figuring out what would happen to it since the war extends a year as per OOC agreement. So I imagined all the superpowers fell mostly to stalemate but with varying progress over time, before that result. Russia and Vestan tried being friends, and are doing robot stuff together.

Then finally, we have WoT 1.
Which contained later on: Russia, Rockies, Cascadia, Vestan, England, the university, a more aggressive eclipse, multiple Manchurian and Japanese governments, the African Empire, Greater Poland, Greenlanders, and Germany. For self defense the Russians allied Eclipse in hopes of not being invaded by a non-rogue element, Eclipse, Cascadia, and Ordaria become allied and in the alliance with other parties, the Africans, Rocklans, and Vestans are in an opposite alliance. Later on the nations of the world discover or even can manufacture new types of materials, and have new resources discovered that most would end up gone 50 years later, and super soldiers become possible. Mutants exist in eastern territories, caused by evolution of surviving creatures and personnel from the results of the nuclear war 1,000+ years ago.

Other powers that existed are various Russian powers scattered around of varying political and technological capabilities, two African powers, a second Canadian power, and the Nordic Union. The most longest lasting is the far latter. Which consisted of a unified Scandinavia, and was labeled a terrorist state by the Russians. They owned svalbard, and the Russian populations in, around, and beyond Glazov underground were starving, even after purging most surface mutants and combatants with help. To save the populations of the two main groups, the Imperials went to svalbard for the seed vault. Alot end up dead, the strike team leader and a few others I believe evacuate, and two key figures of both groups get captured after a failed attempt of utilizing now razkni-42 in the entrance to create a very hot gas-like cloud that spewed many shards of crystal to rip up personnel. It was too weak, so they survived the attack by gasmasks. They faced hatred for their actions by all of Russia, and considered being nuked by a 50 - 100 megaton bomb made from a modified 800KT ICBM. Eventually Svalbard is invaded by Russia's first official Navy in 1,000 years, a bunch of inflatable boats, with valk units using continuous beams to damage ship weapons, take down aircraft, and burn out surface bunkers and melt materials. Svalbard and the seeds were taken, most prisoners were returned in exchange for the two personnel, and they are left alone as svalbard is returned. In the end, Earth gets invaded by an alien race called the Grenshu. Russia by that point and utilizing a great library all throughout, was more better off but still primitive to other powers, [Soviet wannabes with 1940s mimic equipment, the new puppet state made by imperials a more modern tech standard, the imperials having the most advanced facilities, resources, creates the supersoldiers from mutants for each of the three powers and even used it to make a form of MAD to retain peace, But ranged from sophisticated infantry and shipbuilding technologies, to using 1940s looking vehicles.] They slowly started occupying more of the surface than the underground, and they are one of the various national powers, in a temporary unified state, to invade their super fortress in Siberia, as well as nuking the aliens.

Also they, alongside Cascadia, were the only ones that effectively engaged the more "terrifying" superships. The za'ha'kya is another intelligence that fought the invaders. Right before the end, Russia as a whole invaded the Nordic Union after the Gallian puppet state got Greenland to let them use their railroad for transport to Scandinavia. The war was short. And resulted in occupation, enslavement of the nordic peoples for many decades, then Gallians tried acting as a humanitarian and reparative force before Russia ditched control of most of it to Greenland. Whereupon their reign was worse. Leaving them in unsupported chaos and damages. Of course there's more to the story with everyone else doing their own thing, but that's not what your question is about.

Some notable minor events from the RP being quickly reproducing via fallout-styled radiation laws food trees. Or reproducing seeds. They overrun wherever they could of a massive percentage of Siberia in like months. Imagine the Futurama episode with the pinetrees, but not the entire planet. The Russians being fearful Eclipse, and noting their and others' extremism especially in Congress, and how even winning parties in conflicts got muscled into handing over land to others as example of "brute force wins," basically made them crazed maniacs building super weapons. This is canonically utilized four times. The first being the San Josef attacks due to communications failure between Russian powers and Vestan. They spent their resources making what equates to a giant monitor ship for WMDs, and sailed without protection down to south America, whereupon they launched large canisters of Razkni into coastal cities and deeper, about 7 cities on the western coasts of in-between upper-mid South America, filled entirely by this type of gas, and suffocated as well as the shards ripping up the internals and externals of everyone unprotected. The heated gas was then ignited, going up to such temperatures that the entire cities involved were melted. This enabled a small strike force to land on the coast, and hold it until in congress the lands were returned after Russia achieved the result they negotiated for.

The second time was the grenshu invasion. Repeatedly. The first instance of this was deep underground, there was a series of tubes that went to the surface, but some were capable of launching up materials to the surface like a type of air tube. Alien infantry around the region would be surprised by canisters appearing and opening up, filling it with this type of gas. The shards were capable of temporarily disabling the suits, whereupon the Russian infantry could appear with shotguns, and blast it with enough kinetic force that the trauma inflicted injuries and/or kills them. The gas was never ignited in these cases, as they weren't refined nor augmented chemically or reactionally to do so. Later towards the end of the war, Russia had a mutant unit, a valk, which committed suicide by turning themselves into a nuclear weapon. This was utilized to destroy one of the heavy fortresses of the Grenshu and bypass the shields by their speed and protection to ignore the energy blasts and to act as a bullet resistant vest for projectile weaponry. The blast effectively eradicated the region.

The third time was the Russo-Nordic war in lore. The same vessel used to smite Vestan was reutilized to thoroughly wipeout entire regions of parts of Scandinavia. Primarily with Norway I believe, before becoming a museum piece after the war at some point. However, this might be equaled by their general action, whereupon Finland got mercy, and Sweden suffered. The Russians, with mortars, tank mortar shells, flamethrowers, valks, etc they yeeted down entire cities anyway. The Nordics got a cool fight with bunker busters with the Imperial megatank though.

The zeroth time, and the first ever, was the Svalbard gas attack mentioned. Whereupon the Imperial Empress of the duo "monarchy", and their daughter that was ruling the reds due to Imperial fuckery got captured, and allowed politics to shift in Russia and the reds to become freer and independent of informing the Imperials of anything they do. If they were going to be executed they'd mostly detonate into a combined fire nuclear explosion. Or if they were going to be executed in public. They were completely aware of this implication. Then it'd be five times if that happened. The worst part is, Russia suffered absolutely no penalty by the international community at any point while doing any of this, and they still had an actual legitimate supernuke hiding in the metaphorical closet the entire RP. Though mostly unless attacked, they kept to themselves, and never interacted much in the world congress. Which is more ironic since in the sequel they wanted to bring true independence and sovereignty to Europe. Even the same countries they just obliterated, and were friends with Finland. Vestan gets pretty much their core lands in south America and a bit more back.

I guess the overall story thus far if not outright is:

01: Don't set a precedent to the desperate hell hole 99th world country that the answer to everything and to survive is genocide. Also the lengths a nation will take when absolutely desperate.
TSD: The achievements possible as well as a story of the repressed hatred of man.
FoM: The harmony and success of man.
WoT 3: The insanity, political folly, and global crises of man.

The quadilogy of frustrations of man [and machine. Just look at Vestan, absolute RIP.]

Easily:

The second half of another rp that was just as long with as many replies. Probably still on the site somewhere but that would mean digging through the archives. Thing in it's prime had like 20-30 people rapidly responding to each other. It was an absolute mess lol

**EDIT**
I found the first half

Another 52K replies. I don't even wanna think about the combined word count.

Ran for about 6 years, and I think someone is trying to bring it back again.

Last edited:
1x1 - two years, been on and off but technically still ongoing.

Group - I had two groups that lasted about 3 years each. One was a forum rp (my first an only forum group rp) and one was a discord DnD rp. The discord one is still ongoing, I just had to quit because I can't keep up anymore.

The longest one I had reached 100k words in just a few months. Funny thing is, in the universe only 5 or 6 days had passed. We spent 100k words on 5 days XD

My longest roleplay last for just over a year. There are about 166,034 words written and 13 pages of replies. It was a one on one roleplay.

I've heard of people who've had a partner for a year(s)
That's never happened for me. I was curious about everyone else?
What's your longest roleplay?

I've had a good handful of long-er term roleplays from 3-8 months.
I find most often IRL issues get in the way of the other people being able to reply.

edit:
Woops, noticed someone else asked about this earlier in the day,
Sorry about that.

id say three, almost 4 years, however, that one for the last year and a half has been pretty on and off since my partner has had a lot of complications with school and family, so probably the current one with my girlfriend! We've been going for about 2 years now, I'd estimate probably 100k-ish words give or take since we reply so often (especially right now :p). We've also done a bunch of smaller ones together involving the same 9 or so characters in different AUs, haha, but those haven't lasted nearly as long as our main RP.

Ohhh that was something I had not thought of. 'Longest' and 'Word Count' is vastly different. I could have someone I've rped with one reply a day - for 3 months but still wrote less then someone who I rp'ed with more words a day for 3 months. I'll have to find a middle ground.

It's not on RPN nor is it one single RP, but myself and another person have been running an ongoing series of Hunger Games RP's for years now. 2014 we started.

i think it was an old rp on a different site that had three installments because the thread got deleted because of technical issues involving people getting banned on the forum we were on that hit maybe 200 or 300 pages, although it was mostly a single paragraph RP and the length came from post amount. didn't track the word count although it was probably really low. the people i was rping with and i were basically noobs don't yell at me pls
