Tall spindly trees, seemingly never-ending with their height, creaked uneasily in these otherwise silent woods. With no sunlight breaching the canopies, the forest floor was purely lit by colourful glowy mushrooms and luminous crystals embedded into bark, giving the whole area the air of a hidden wonderland.
Perhaps it would seem magical and awe-inspiring to be in such a place, but for the discerning, the lack of life would give birth to a most ominous atmosphere. No sounds of birds chirping, pixies giggling, or leaves rustling in the wind could be heard at all. For those that would notice, something was very clearly wrong with this place.
---
A long-haired fairy of white hanfu and green wings was drifting through these woods. One wing was mechanical, with gears and metal frames, made to resemble her natural left wing as much as possible. It whirred and fluttered with a gentle rhythm behind her back.
Ninelle, the fairy, was in a bit of a daze. Glittering pollen and colourful flora swirled and clouded her vision and thoughts, as she floated through the air aimlessly. Unbeknownst to her, an eerie blue glow had settled in the depths of her eyes.
…where am I? These trees... this must be the Lodeli Woods. But... why am I here? Wasn't there... a boy? Yeah... we talked about something... I have to save him. Or was it someone else I had to save? I can't remember...
Her cognition seemed muddled and fragmented, with each prior thought slipping out of reach as she came up with a new one. Still, she pressed on, because in the back of her mind, she knew there was something she must do.
Oh, the boy. There he is. She couldn't mistake that golden hair anywhere. Why was he running from her? Ninelle saw herself flying after him at full speed, but in reality, she was drifting forward at an almost zombie-like pace... towards the open jaws of a monstrous golden flower.
Its glittering petals were spread wide and welcoming, lined with hundreds of tiny translucent teeth as it awaited its unaware victim. Criss-crossing vines stemmed from behind the bud, curled around the trunk and low branches of an overhanging tree.
Every now and then, a bluish pulse would coarse through the plants vines, one that resonated with the blue glow in the fairy's eyes as it tightens its hold on her consciousness.
(Ninelle is under the control of [Mind Control] C)
