Let's Make An OP Character! ^_^

This is a sort of critical analysis of not only OP characters and the mentality that either goes into them, or is given off by them to others, as well as the creation process. Of course this will not apply to ever writer, or the mentality and process they use.

So ladies and gentleman, if we're going to create an OP character together, there are some fundamental building blocks that must be set in place in order to do this properly. There are 4 portions we need to address and fill out in order to complete a character that is ready to be unleashed upon some poor soul's project.

  • Name
  • Identity
  • Abilities
  • Loose Personality & History Outline

First we need a good name. We could keep it simple, but our character is going to be anything but simple, so let's come up with something special.

Arovinianatis Domeritianovich. Yeaaah, that really stumbles off the tongue; we look articulate now! Since we don't want to repeatedly type that out, we'll just call him Arov.

Now that we have a name, we need an identity. First and foremost, we can't be a human mortal. That's boring. No fun to write, and severely limits our range and scope of godmodding potential. But we also don't want to be some freakish life form that won't be able to fit into mundane scenarios and operate within society, so we've got to come up with something genius... Something never done before...

I've got it! You're going to love this! We're a half-demon Prince from the furthest, darkest reaches of the Nethervoid. Let's settle on an appearance and get that out of the way because our skill set and abilities are the only thing actually matter here

ZOMG yes!!! Fucking perfect!

Now how exactly did a half-demon prince from the Nethervoid end up living in common society? How and why did a soul devouring demon who's actually a fallen supreme god of death end up conceiving a child with a human mortal? Just.. don't ask, because we can't explain it to you either, we're being edgy here and setting up a good skill set.

Let's skip the backstory altogether for now, since anything we contrive in that area will only serve to emphasize and set up personality traits, skills, and abilities.

Now for the personality. The key word here is edgy.

edg·y

ˈejē/

adjective

1.tense, nervous, or irritable.

"he became edgy and defensive"

synonyms:tense, nervous, on edge, anxious, apprehensive, uneasy, unsettled

2.informal

at the forefront of a trend; experimental or avant-garde.

"their songs combine good music and smart, edgy ideas"

synonyms:cutting-edge, on-the-edge, fringe, avant-garde, innovative, original, offbeat;

gritty

"an edgy new novel"

Edgy” is an English slang term used to describe things, behaviors or trends which are provocative or avant-garde, and is often used to describe things that are dark and gothic in nature.

We want a defiant, anti-social, arrogant and abrasive son of a bitch, just a difficult, combative prick! Arov has no respect for anyone, because they are mortal scum; weak, inferior creatures fit for enslavement to the Nethervoid. He's the strong silent type, usually leaning against a wall, arms folded being irritated by everything and everyone. When he is interacting, he's either putting down and judging others, correcting people, threatening or fighting, or commandeering the entire plot to exercise his dark, demonic will.

Did we mention Arov is a protagonist? :D  He's actually neutral because he doesn't care about good or evil - philosophical complexities are for the weak and submissive - but he'll be lingering around the protag side like a foil stench in the air.

Well I'm bored already, can we get to his abilities?

The soul devouring Demon/fallen supreme god of death blood coursing through his veins gives him full control over the power of the Nethervoid.

They include-but are not limited to!  ;)  :

  • Necromancy (HOLLA!)
  • Entering and leaving at will
  • Trapping souls within and releasing them from
  • Summoning Nethervoid entities to do his bidding and fight for him
  • Generic, open-ended void magic

Now that's one hell of a character, but it's not enough. What if he gets hurt? We cannot have that! Arov DOES NOT get hurt! Not without some outstanding circumstance accompanying the act itself. So Arov's blood also makes him immortal. He doesn't age, can't become ill or contract disease, and his soul is invulnerable. He also has a healing factor that allows him to recover from any damage that happens to slip by through some miracle or, you know, someone godmodding. *rolls eyes* Magic also has a reduced effect on Arov because of his demonic blood.

Let's be clear about something, though. Arov is not a mage. Because we want to use a katana or two and primarily focus on badass melee fighting. Martial arts are a given, can't have some fancy monk-type showing him up in any way. It's all about competing, contending, covering our asses in as many conceivable situations we possibily can.

Other minor abilities in our bag of tricks include-but are not limited to! ;) :

  • Flight
  • Teleportation
  • Extrasensory Perception
  • Empathy (reading emotions)

General skills include-but are not limited to! ;) :

  • Extensive knowledge of cultures, history, races, and anything the plot throws his way
  • Tracking skills
  • Survival skills
  • Deductive skill
  • Mechanical and improvisational ingenuity
  • General-advanced skill level and knowledge of anything the RP throws at him

And there you have it, we've made an OP character together!
