  • Link to your CS in your first post.
  • Aileen is the best girl. That is all.

The goals/prepared routes of this RP is as follows:

Ryan ( Valkan Valkan )- After a romantic evening with Aileen, Ryan is all loved up! However, unfortunately for him, tensions are high! How was he supposed to know he would be forced to spend the cart trip to Kirkwall holding up in a cart with both Aileen and the woman he just scorned? And now he has to meet that woman's father in order to complete his task! What a terrible turn of events! Will Ryan be able to overcome this awkward encounter, win the girl and get back to Stonewall in one piece? Will Cynthia get the picnic she asked for and a chance to clear the air/appologise? Only time will tell.

Retili ( conman2163 conman2163 ) - Collecting a census is no easy goal and though the people of Kirkwall are all to willing to help in doing so, there is one group among them that may take some convincing. The fae Elves that live in the depths of the Kirkwall forest are isolationists. They seldom deal with outsiders. How will Retili overcome this? Will he complete his census with or without those faes included?

Micah ( DuckPrince DuckPrince )- Starting up a ranch is no easy task and it requires a lot of hard work and effort. Though fun fact, it also requires horses! Hearing rumours a pack of roaming horses on the way to Kirkwall, Micah may just have found himself favoured by luck. Can he brake one of those horses? Should he? It's all up to his actions and perhaps even someone else's...

Teuihua ( TheTimePiece TheTimePiece )- A golem in kirkwall!? Being a border town that was once a battleground with the east and its constructs. Well, it's safe to say Teuihua is not a welcome sight. Reaching Borderhill, Teuihua may just find some remnants of his past life or indeed some insight into how exactly and why his kind are looked upon with such disdain in this area. Can he earn any trust and more importantly, will he make it back to Stonewall unharmed?

Regula ( Elvario Elvario )- Being the new baroness is a tough job. Although she seemed to be at least welcome in the other areas of her Barony something about Kirkwall just doesn't seem right. Why is everyone so on edge around her? Why does no one wish to engage in talks about how the area is doing? Is something going on?

Country of Ryken, County of Sadek, Barony of Caelia. Kirkwall Outskirts: Main Road.
Time: 12:30 Weather: Clear skies.

Following the celebrations in Sootspire, and after a well-deserved rest, everyone in the group soon set off for Kirkwall. Well almost everyone that is. Ethel, Aria, Sherwood and Saffron decided it best to return to Stonewall following some sore heads that morning as well as to attend jobs requiring their attention. And so actually it was after a quick morning goodbye that the group set off, Teuihua carrying a wagon of processed ore with him this time around.

Rocky and bumpy hills soon turned to vast stretches of meadow once again and as if the gods themselves were joyous about the festive night before, the day was radiant. A gentle breeze, warm sun rays and fluffy white clouds blessed our group's travels. At one point, the Baroness had even spotted a small herd of deer watching them from afar, a lovely sight appreciated by Amanda and Cynthia in particular. Oh, Cynthia, that's right! After her stern talking to at the hands of Ryan and the misunderstanding between herself and the Baroness, Cynthia was invited to travel home with the group. Riding on the cart alongside her cousin and Ryan, tensions were quite high. Or at least it seemed that way for the first hour, by the second Cynthia and Aileen were all talk. Discussing anything and everything save for Ryan. Perhaps that was for the best.

Micah had heard rumours of wild horses that needed taming in the region but unfortunately, the deer were as close as he came to catching a glimpse of anything horselike outside his own and Amanda's. Perhaps he could find out more later, but for now, it seemed he was fresh out of luck.

Nearing the village now the group could spot several farms in the distance and fields filled with lively and healthy-looking crops. To those in the know, specifically, the captain, the sight of farm animals was most impressive. Cattle and sheep were both being kept and in quite a number at that. Stonewall, despite being the new capital had always struggled to keep animals, wolf attacks as well as bandits making it near impossible. Yet here, out in the boonies, those animals weren't just being kept, they were thriving! How!

1679051624795.png
Amanda seemed to be in great spirits, as did Cynthia. Home sweet home, Kirkwall would soon be coming into view! However, no sooner had the group passed a strange-looking standing stone did a large fireball come flying their way. Impacting the ground just a few feet in front of them the spell left a small crater in the soil and set the path ablaze. Spooking both horses Amanda and Micah had to act quickly in calming the animals down. Micah hadn't many issues in doing so but it took Amanda all she had to overcome her mounts rearing and attempts to shake her off.

1679050873837.png
???

Appearing out of a bush nearby a ginger-haired woman stood blocking their path, spell ready in hand. Anyone experienced enough in combat could tell with just a glance this woman meant business and that her next spell was not going to miss. "Identify yourselves and state your business, you've just entered the domain of Kirkwall. Now let it be known should any of you or that war machine encroach any further without doing so, I will be forced to take the appropriate measures."

Cynthia didn't seem too fazed by the situation, munching on a pastry she had prepared earlier while the woman spoke. Although Amanda seemed rather exhausted following her exchange with the horse she too seemed unfazed, if anything her eyes gave off the impression she had been here many times before but still refused to speak up. Whatever was happening the two natives seemed disinterested in helping out with this mess.

Raising her hand toward the group the woman's spell began to flare. Those with any ability to sense magic would be able to tell now, for certain, this woman was powerful. "Speak now or retreat!"

Micah, open learning the rumor of wild horses, was understandably jittery and excited to actually find them. That that did not mean the easy on the eyes elf forgot about his promise of helping Hestia's mare get back into working shape. Having had a rest and a chance to fill her belly, he was much more keen on working the mare, some light trotting and cantering with grass breaks in between while waiting for the group to catch up, Micah felt positive he'd do his job well.

Although, nothing could particularly prepare someone to have a fireball hurled at them, it made the elf's heart leap up into his throat for a moment. "Fucking-" He muttered, letting his horse back up and shuffle until she was calm. "Is it really necessary to hurl hazardous magic at areas surrounded by flammable material?!" He snapped a bit, obviously peeved. Outside of that, Micah let others deal with this madmage. He didn't want to put Hestia's horse in more danger, so he retreated to the back of the group.

The sights were calming and peaceful today. She'd decided to walk with the group out of solidarity. Totally not because she didn't trust her wings enough to carry her for longer periods of time just yet. It looked like Amanda's talk about agriculture had clear basis in reality, which was visible from how well the area was doing. She was about to compliment Amanda on it, when the peace was brutally disturbed by an attack made against their group.

Instinctively, quickly readied herself for a counter-attack, planning to annihilate whatever bandit was dumb enough to attack their group. However, she stopped herself from doing so when the woman started to demand for them to identify themselves. “It's rude to demand others to introduce themselves before you do. Why don't you go first? Perhaps I'll consider returning the favour afterwards.” Although she didn't reveal her position, her voice still carried the authority of it (Baroness' Word B).

To her surprise, even the Elf was actually angered by the actions of that mage. Then again, she did notice Cynthia and Amanda not being particularly bothered by it, which made her wonder if this was more common than she'd like it to be. It was also why she didn't feel the need to be more threatening or to start aiming her gun already. Besides, she'd been burned close to death once before and was confident it wouldn't happen a second time, should this mage act up even more.

Retili had been quietly plodding along in the front of the group when a fireball slammed into the ground in front of him in a fiery eruption. The Zentail fell back with fear in his eyes, suddenly back on the battlefield outside of Yemaya, the city silhouetted in the background on fire as he commanded his men in a tooth and nail fight against the Fell forces that had occupied the city. He could almost feel the pain of his wound again as a beholder burned a fist sized hole through his torso. Terror was visible under the dark cowl of his cloak as his men rushed forward to form a rough line between him and the mage. Behind them Retili had his eyes shut and was sitting with his knees drawn to his chest on the ground. He breathed in sharp ragged breaths as he tried to bring the fear response under control. He was unprepared for the sudden panic attack brought on by the fiery explosion and his left hand snaked under his cloak to touch the old wound under his shirt as if to confirm it wasn't once again threatening to send him from the land of the living again. Gun hammers cocked in a rattle as the five with ranged weapons moved forward and the explosive crack of gunfire rang out in the treeline as they feared their commander had been wounded and sought revenge. The other ten with pikes rushed forward before anyone could stop them to attack the mage, their Zentail commander too preoccupied with the visions of terror to even comprehend what went on. If anything the gunfire only perpetuated the response as he dropped his head to his knees and fell to his side on the ground with his hands over his ears.

The golem was back at it again this time pulling along a cart filled with ores, which he had no qualms doing. He was feeling much better since Regula had fixed his arm up, now all he needed was for the rest of his body's capabilities to wake up along side with him, and he'd be able to assist at his full capacity. Teuihua continued to lumber along, not having too much to say in terms of conversation with the group lest he was engaged, still having gone most of his existence not speaking to other people unless necessary for his work. Teuihua did however take notice of the impressive crops and animals once again. Some of the crops and animals looked more or less familer than others, since there had been some changes since his time in that department in terms of plant life and animals which existed, as well as the vast access which his civilization had at the time due to their prominence on the world stage. It seemed that those who decided to come

Kirkwall was turning out to be quite different from the one that he initially visited in Ryke, it seemed like everything was nicer here, but perhaps that was understandable considering that village had been ravaged by the ratmancer, which was why he had been there to rebuild to begin with. As they got closer. However Teuihua's quiet, collected, calm, but vilgiant demeanor was suddenly disrupted when the group got particularly close to a strange stone when suddenly a fireball came out of seemingly no where! Teuihua immediately out of instinct removed his dexterous hand from the ore cart and moved his body so that he took up a good portion of space between the direction the fireball had come from and where Regula was. Call it a force of habit but his first priority was to protect the baroness should threats arise, his stance now very defensive, just as he was about to say something however, it became clear that this wasn't exactly an enemy intent on assaulting them further.

When he heard the figure demanding who they were, he found there to be quite a bit of audacity there to speak to the Baroness that way, perhaps this magic user didn't know? Regardless Teuihua was ready to strike them down should they show true hostility. He took no offense to her referring to him as a war machine since one could argue technically that's what he was, but even so it wasn't exactly the most welcoming thing to hear immediately. Despite this he did not feel that it was his place to speak on behalf of the group, and would let those he deemed more authoritative speak.

Ryan Kylieth

Ryan was not having a great time. Yesterday was rather eventful in a good way, for the most part at least. He had a lot of privacy with Aileen. And their exchange at her secret spot was something he would treasure for a long time. With that said, he felt guilty for somewhat misunderstanding Aileen and Cynthia's relationship. Although he figured out that it got him a lot of points with Aileen later in the night, he didn't consider his own intervention of the event as fair.

Now, here he was. Sitting next to the two. Right as he boarded the cart, he put his hood on, and remained quiet for the entire trip so far. Not saying a word even as the cousins broke the ice and talked amongst themselves. His eyes stared at what lied beyond Teuihua in the road ahead, lost in thought on how to properly address his mistake with the two of them.

Ryan wouldn't have much more time to think though, as a fire ball impacted the road ahead of them. His sharp gaze tracked the origin of the attack. A wizard, somehow related to Kirkwall based on her choice of words. Regardless, Ryan was ready to strike, should it be needed. Standing between the wizard and the two cousins, stretching his free arm to cover them more, while his armed hand kept the revolver trained on the wizard from his waist. With a final click, the gun was ready to fire.

He wasn't much of a talker, so he was grateful other people within the group, mainly Regula, could solve this without resorting to violence... Or so he wished. While he had practiced, and he was a good enough shot, but no amount of training fully prepares you for real confrontations.

Note: CS is in Ryan's face

The woman in question seemed to hesitate momentarily when Micah and Regula spoke up, her magic lapsing ever so slightly, however. Though that momentary lapse in conviction was soon corrected when bullets were fired off toward her and spearmen made ready to pierce her through. At that point, it seemed diplomacy had gone out the window and as promised the woman stayed true to her word. Without so much as a hint of hesitation, the woman fired off her spell in time with the echoing of the gunfire.

{Barrier D, Affinity Fire.} {Always Outnumbered}
Leaving her hand the spell quickly took shape, and a large fire quickly enveloped the road, creating a large wall of flame that hid the woman from view. In an instant the barrier took hold and the bullets came to clash against it, melting as they did so. With the barrier wall in place, the pike company was stopped in its tracks, any attempt to run through the barrier was sure to be impossible for them, the heat alone made such very clear.
"First you bring a war machine to our doorstep, then you attack during parlay! Kirkwall is closed to you, outsiders! Now Begone and be grateful I've spared you from any harm!"

Hoping down from her horse Amanda tied its reins to the cart and climbed inside to take a seat next to the cousins and behind Ryan. With a soft sigh, the woman was offered a pastry by Cynthia and the two sat quietly munching on the sweet treats. Ryan would be in earshot of the conversation and Regula's perception would also grant her the ability to listen in even from afar.
"We're going to be in so much trouble..."
"Well, in all honesty... did you expect anything less"
"I suppose not, still couldn't you have sent a letter ahead of time?"
"I did but look at us! Teuihua is a golem, with skulls, and has a big weapon of an arm that isn't exactly inconspicuous. Then to top it all off there's a small army following us. Literally."
"Do you think the letter didn't make it in time?"
"No, it definitely made it. If I had to guess. Just to the wrong person."
"Oh, ohhhh. Amanda, shouldn't we do something?"
"Nah, Fiona isn't going to do anything, she's scared the golem will fire off lasers from its eyes or something. She still can't patrol Border Hill because of the dead one by the tree. That wall is as much to keep him out of her sight as it is to block us from going any further. Besides even if we try to talk to her she'll think Teuihua hypnotised us or something."
"But still, what if she does! What if those little men attack the wall and she has to? What if the baroness gets hurt!?"
"George will show up soon. He'll defuse the situation. I bet little foot already spotted the flames"
"You're right... George will fix it! Yeh! He'll settle everything real quick"
"Yep, then we can be on our way. So long as Ashl..."
"So long as I what, Amanda? Hmm? Enlighten me."

Ashley

Appearing seemingly from out of nowhere another woman spoke up. Somehow the woman had managed to avoid everyones detection and was now not only among them but sitting with her legs hanging off the back of the cart that stood between them all. Playing with a Mythril dagger the woman easily flipped it through her fingers as she spoke to Amanda. Her eyes on the small elf currently incapacitated on the floor "You never cease to amaze me Steelhaven. The amount of trouble you manage to get yourself into with such effortless ease is quite frankly a skill at this point. But my lecture can wait till later. If either of you moves or tries to intervene. I'll make you regret it. Now stay put while I sort this whole thing out.".

Hopping down from the cart the woman ignored the fallen fey and instead turned to face the Captain and Regula, dagger still in hand.
"Ok, as per the rules of this land, I shall grant you a chance to explain yourselves and the actions taken here today. Ezikiel my- my, a long way from home. You have no right to be here, in fact, I should kill you for the sheer audacity of having shown your face.". Glancing to Regula the woman spoke more sternly "But rules are rules. I am your jury, judge and executioner. Speak your case Valkerie, for what reason have you come here? For what reason do you travel with an army and war machine? For what reason have you and your little men disrespected the rules of parlay? You are a powerful individual, but know this, I will not ask a second time. This is our land, you are the one intruding, you will speak first"

Well then, this was turning into quite the headache-introducing situation. For a second she figured her words rang true to the mage, then Retili's men suddenly attacked. “Stand down!” She called out on instinct and with a fair deal of annoyance in her voice. Luckily for them, the mage only defended herself, rather than starting up a slaughter. Regula glossed over at Retili, to see why he wasn't keeping his men in check, only to see him having fallen into some sort of panic attack. She clicked her tongue. That was unexpected and very sub-optimal.

She was pleasantly surprised when she saw Teuihua moving in to defend her. He really was too good to be true, wasn't he? She wondered which god had blessed her with such an employee. Or what curse would eventually unfold to counter the 'to good to be true' narrative. Either way, for now, she was trying to figure out how to de-escalate this mess. That's when she spotted Ashley. Or rather, heard her speak up. “As a compromise for some of my men falling out of line, I'll give you your explanations once I've checked up on my advisor.” She replied, before heading over to Retili. She'd glance at Ashley to ensure they wouldn't try anything too stupid, but was confident enough delay answering her question.

She'd use [Safe Zone C], in particular its [Control Environment] effect, to draw out the sounds and sights of battle that seemed to be giving Retili his panic attack, before crouching down. To be a bit closer to him. “Hey, it's alright. We're not actually under attack.” She spoke, trying to calm him down. She wasn't sure what else she could say or do. She'd never been the greatest at these types of things and hadn't expected the scribe to fall victim to such a thing, so she had no clue what could even help him calm down.

Having hopefully at least helped a little, she turned to Ashley. “It's both my duty and my right to inspect the barony I've been granted governance over. That is why I'm here.” She spoke up, moving back towards Ashley and not being shy about getting close enough to be able to attempt using Appraisal B on her. “Now, what gives you the right to play jury, judge and executioner here?” She asked in turn, pretty darn unhappy with this development of having such vigilantism within her borders.

The captain, meanwhile, was caught in a precarious situation. He knew his duties, but he also knew the limits of his power and that these folk were enough to push him towards them. The only luck was that the Marshall wasn't here, as he'd not be sure if he could afford looking weak in front of her. Wait, who was he fooling? His boss, the Baroness, was here as well. He'd still have to do something. “Stand down Ashley. Show the baroness the respect she's due.” He said, preparing himself for a worst-case scenario should these hard-headed folk continue to make an issue out of this.

Retili continued to suck in deep, ragged breaths as the scene developed around him while he laid in the fetal position. His troops, reacting to the stern command of Regula, stopped in their places and looked rather sheepish. They dejectedly filed back towards the cart and reformed up into a traveling column. They were certain given the reaction of the Baroness that they would be spending their spare time cleaning rather than being able to booze it up in the tavern for the next several weeks, maybe even months. The control over the sound coming into the safe zone helped the scribe plenty. The sudden lack of sound allowed him to focus and draw himself together which helped far more then Regula's words. With hands shaky from a flood of adrenaline, the scribe slowly made his way to his feet. Although his breathing slowly returned to normal and he seemed to make an effort to return to a facade of cool composure, the Scribe new that he needed to work through whatever had happened to him just then. Clearly he had not healed from the events of Yemaya as well as he wanted himself to believe. Once he felt ready he looked around at the scene surrounding him. He took in the sight of the massive wall of flames, the look of his men standing ashamed to the side, and the stranger who had approached so silently. Regula was already appropriately addressing the situation. Retili decided that he couldn't trust his own voice just yet and decided to stay silent for now.

Micah.png Micah Ambrose
The elf had no way of preparing for the other fey to have a panic attack and for his mini men to start lashing out without any forethought towards the mess it could cause. He kept his distance though. At the end of the day, Micah was just a horseman, that could at most do healing magic or mediocre close-combat water magic. He continued to soothe Laverne, who was his main priority and the one he needed to keep safe more than anyone else. Letting her get hurt or run off would ruin his reputation and cause Hestia larger losses than just having a fat, lazy mare could.

Glancing at the silent captain, and then back to Retili, he leaned forward to rest his head against Larverne's neck. "If you have PTSD, you need to find something.. or someone that can ground you when you encounter your trigger." He murmured to the fey. His eyes were calm, if not even ..understanding. Micah knew what it was like to deal with trauma.. although his own wasn't about battlefields.

Although Ryan was fully determined to stand between Aileen and as much fire as he could stand, a cold chill ran down his spine when he heard an unknown voice behind him. He turned the moment he heard her first words. Ryan was shocked. Without even a shred of a noise or a visual cue, now another woman sat in the cart, playing around with a knife as if she had been there the whole time.

While apparently both Cynthia and Amanda were familiar with these people, and were taking the situation rather calmly, Ryan was not. Luckily, his face was mostly covered, masking his expression of absolute defeat. Were this a real danger, he wouldn't have been able to keep Aileen safe. He was at a loss.

Standing there, gazing blankly where the invader known as Ashley was sitting. Ryan slowly uncocked his revolver and holstered it, sitting down with his head hanging low in defeat. He let out a sigh, wanting to just vanish into oblivion.

While it was a bit surprising at first to hear the reciprocated gun fire at first, Teuihua's mission stayed same which was to protect Regula first, and anyone else in the party second. At the same point Teuihua understood well enough that response fire was justified. Teuihua even understood the magic user's hostility to an extent, it wasn't uncommon back in Teuihua's time for city states to have independence, and they didn't always take too kindly to those who tried to impose themselves on them, but what Teuihua didn't understand here was that Regula was supposed to have authority, so why were they acting so hostile towards the group? When he heard her mention 'war machine' again Teuihua couldn't help but wonder if he was only exastebating problems for the group, which if that was the case was one of the last things he would have wanted to have happen, as far as Teuihua was concerned his goal was to make it easier for them not harder.

Upon Regula's negotiating words it sounded like Teuihua shifted his body further to shield her as she moved lumbering some if he needed too. Really though what right did this individual have to restrict their entire party from entering? It didn't sound like there was any true legal baring if Regula outranked her in the land. Realistically she should superceed any local. decrees in any area that was under her dominion, just like Teuihua's leaders could go as they please in the land they owned.

The golem was glad to see that Retili was recovering from his earlier state of intense distress it looked like, and no one seemed to be injured. Ryan okay but looking defeated, and Micah seemed okay too. But Teuihua's head did rotate quickly when there was a previously undetected figure who was sitting on the cart speaking, Teuihua immediately put some space between this new comer and where Regula was physically by moving him self there, looking between the mage and the person on the cart now.
Yet another person who seemed insistent that Regula wasn't in charge of them. Perhaps they weren't willing to accept the transfer of power? Teuihua hoped that they could avoid a rebellious belligerent state, he'd rather not have to witness suppression and acceptance through violence like he had on occasion, not that he thought it was the sort of thing that Regula would do, once again however he would stay quiet and watch what unfolded, instead ready to jump into action if needed.

Ashley

Ashley didn't seem all too concerned when the Baroness moved to aid Retili, though her eyes followed the woman she remained where she had been. At this stage, it was easy to tell the woman wasn't all that concerned about anyone else. That was save for Teuihua, who had earned himself seldom glances, and the Captain. The cold expression on her face left little else to be decerned even to those with a high grade of insight. Fortunately though for Regula her 'Appraisal' would grant her a unique insight into the woman and her role. An action that was easily accomplished given the woman hadn't shied away from Regula's sudden approach.

Equally as unimpressed as the Baroness, Ashley stood her ground. "Who am I? What gives me the right? The last Baron was a fool and a coward but it seems this new one is just culturally ignorant. Tsk.". Turning to face the Captain, Ashley moved toward the wall and as she did so the wall vanished. The fire damage Micah had feared never came to pass, the grass below as healthy as could be despite the former blaze. A peculiar sight indeed. "Come on then. You want to see Kirkwall right? You may pass, next time though I suggest you make yourself and your position known when asked about it. Not everyone can use Appraisal you know, some of us 'plebs' actually communicate via word of mouth". Turning to face the group the woman vanished after a few parting words "I don't have the time or patience to explain to you who I am and my job here. Amanda and Cynthia can do so. I have a border to patrol. Do enjoy your stay, m'lady". The sarcastic tone was very obvious. What a delightful young woman.

Keeping her distance from the group the mage from before watched them from afar. Paying attention to Teuihua in particular, the woman was still very clearly on her guard. But it was evident she was no longer intent on blocking the group's path. With a swish of her staff, the damaged path returned to normal, soil hardening to reform the roadway thereafter. "You may pass, I was unaware of your title. You have my apology Lady Ceilia. Do have a safe trip."

With the path ahead now clear, the group would have no issue proceeding toward the town, however, ensuring Retili and everyone else was ok more than likely came first. As did an explanation no doubt.

Amanda Steelhaven

Peaking out sheepishly from within the cart, Amanda's eyes fell on the Baroness. Why did Ashley have to mention her by name! Dammit, she had just been hired! Now she as about to be fired! With a soft sigh, Amanda departed from the cart and moved toward the baroness, worry evident on her features. "So, Ashley. What a peach am I right?"

Laughing softly in an attempt to break the tension Amanda gave up and decided to just get down to business. What the Baroness needed now was advice, information and more than likely an apology. So with a deep breath, Amanda continued, locking eyes with the Baroness as she did so "So, Ashley. The person you just met and the 'mage' who first stopped our approach are members of a group called 'The Hunters'. Ashley being the second in command and well, not the most charming amount them.". Looking to the mage Amanda continued "The Hunters are to Kirkwall what the Guards are to Stonewall. Except culturally more important you could say. I won't bog you down in all the details right now but the four hunters are highly respected individuals. Without them, Kirkwall would be a lawless land and the bountiful farmland you see before you an impossibility. They keep our village safe and the group itself was created by a saint. Technically I suppose it's a saintly order as a result."

Returning her attention to Regula, Amand offered a smile "I sent a letter ahead of our arrival, to avoid all this. But it seems it was 'lost' in transit. I'll answer any questions you or the others have for now. But I suppose I owe you an apology. Though it's forbidden to talk of the hunters to outsiders, I should have done so in this case. Kirkwall is a lovely town, the people are really welcoming. It's just... well. Golems are sort of Kirkwall's natural enemy... and a lot of people are eh... critical? No, apprehensive when it comes to the Baroness given the rocky relationship with the last Baron and Count. The rest of you should be fine though! Probably. Maybe. Just eh, try not to start a fight. Fighting is strictly forbidden in Kirkwall. And we're already being watched by The Hunters as is."

Meanwhile, in the cart, a sullen Ryan would be offered a pastry by Cynthia. "You needn't feel bad Ryan. Ashley isn't someone who can be easily
taken on. Even when you know she's there. Please cheer up, I personally thought you were very brave trying to shield us"

Regula Caelia
Mentions: Fiona/Ashley/Amanda Uasal Uasal

She was glad she'd managed to stop Retili's troops from getting themselves killed, as well as for being able to seemingly give him some sort of respite. She heard Micah speaking to him about something she'd never heard of, peetea'esdea, which sounded like it might be some sort of curse. Either way, now was not the time to ponder about it.

After all, she didn't have the necessarily skills to hide her shock upon discovering Ashley's titles. Nor did she have the composure to stay calm enough to abstain from instinctively reaching for the Feablade. Her thoughts worked overtime, although not necessarily to her advantage. What did one need to do to become such a high grade of criminal? Torture and murder thousands? Tens of thousands? Go after a king? Whatever it was, it was bad. Extremely bad. The irony was the contradiction this made with other things she'd seen. The Just? Blessed? Friend of the Fey? Had this person fallen into a murderer from having been at the peak of sainthood?

Regula debated her options. She was confident she could take this person. It'd be a bit more troublesome if the mage got involved as well, which would most definitely be the case. The main issue, however, were the others. She'd not be able to keep them out of harm's reach if a fight broke out between her, Ashley and that mage. Although she'd be able to resurrect them, she'd rather not do so. The latter was also a giant risk, as the mage might burn too much of them to be resurrectable. She also wasn't sure if her healing magic would work on Teuihua.

All things considered, there were too many variables that posed too big a risk. She'd just about concluded that when she realised Ashley was speaking. The words were... well, they were what they were. Regula wouldn't normally be the type to be angered by such language. She was used to far worse insults and had already prepared for her rule to not be accepted by everyone. To a degree, there might even be an odd type of charm in the attitude. After all, it wasn't a pompous noble denying her, but someone acting out of their sense of right and wrong. That would normally be just enough not to hate someone for their words on the first meeting. All of that didn't matter, sadly enough, as Regula's mind had barely left those two criminal titles she spotted.

That's when she heard the mage speak up again. Good, that gave her a moment to switch gears. “Thank you, your apology is accepted. Might I also ask for you name, now that you know mine?” She'd reply. She wasn't sure if this mage was a criminal of equal measure, but didn't want to get close enough to use appraisal on her to find out. Instead, she'd try to assume she wasn't and see if she could at least start off on a somewhat good note with someone here, whilst trying to figure out what to do with the other. As for the safe trip; “Thank you, let's hope our next meeting will be a more pleasant one.” She answered, flashing the mage a smile. Somewhat genuine, for what she could muster thanks to being [Gregarious] and [Well-Meaning].

When Amanda came up to her, however, continuing to mention Ashley, she was instantly back into full-serious mode. Amanda's laugh did not break any tension whatsoever. The information Regula was given was making this all the more concerning. Someone that respected, that level of criminal? She clicked her tongue, really stuck on what to think of this or how to handle this. Forbidden to talk about the hunters to outsiders? She was meant to be the baroness of this place, how the hell was she even an outsider? Flashes of anger and frustration flared up, but were quickly suppressed.

Before replying, Regula pulled Amanda away from the group, far enough to be out of hearing range even to do those who might have sharper than average hearing. Then she'd speak up on a hushed tone, just to be extra safe. “I'll accept your apology on one condition. Tell me who it was that Ashley tortured and murdered. Or tell me anything you know or suspect about it. Don't hold anything back, even if it's just rumours.” Her words were stern, almost threatening, due to how serious she was about this (Baroness' Word C). She didn't exactly blame Amanda for not telling her, but the sudden shock of finding such a high level criminal within her borders was occupying enough of her mental space to be hyper-focussed on figuring out what in the world was up with it. She'd also use her Insight to attempt to figure out if Amanda was lying or holding anything back.

After learning of Ashley's role in this community, she was hoping to find some answer she could live with, like an East Empire noble that'd tried to enslave her people or something. She was a See Inquisitor and East Empire Fugitive, Ashley a Friend of Fey, Count Sadek a Half-Fae. There might be options to resolve this, if this was between The See and the East Empire, maybe? No, she was already thinking too far ahead. For all she knew, this Ashley might have just spent ages murdering people in secret whilst pretending to be a Saint on the surface. She had to know more about this, for the safety of her barony and for her continued chances at staying in power.

See Inquisitor Character was unsuccessful in their mission, but failure is not the end. So long as one breathes, there is hope for redemption. Character may gain redemption by aiding the enemies of the See to find their own redemption through fire and sword. Character will not inherit criminal titles while 'punishing' enemies of the See. Inquisitors have +1 effectiveness in finding/discerning enemies of the See and in inflicting damage against them. With each successful 'cleansing', character's soul will feel lighter until redemption and enlightenment is obtained, and the perks therein.
Gregarious - whether the character is among enemies or allies, they seem to know what to say or do that lets them thrive in the situation. A story or apt compliment, the character can make a good situation more fun or a bad situation more agreeable.
Well-Meaning - Character has displayed several instances of attempting to help, so it is understood by many the character is at least trying to make circumstances better. However, their efforts struggle to achieve the best outcome.

Aileen, meanwhile, shot a glare at Cynthia. The witch was using bread to buy over Ryan, wasn't she? Her and her evil bread should just back off. Well... it was great bread. Ugh. Foul tricks, that it was. Then again, she had to agree with Cynthia.“Don't worry, my dad and uncles would've teamed up and hammered Ashley into the ground together if me or Cynthia were to have gotten hurt~” She tried to joke to make Ryan feel better. “Besides, if worse comes to worse, we can protect each-other right?” She said, hoisting her trusty hammer up a bit. The latter was likely another attempt to cheer him up, as she hadn't really shown any combat powers thus far and wasn't likely to have them, unlike Cynthia. The best she had was some brute strength from working the smithy, among other things.

Retili gazed at the other Fae with suspicious eyes. Whatever PTSD was, he wasn't certain. Nor did he quite understand what a trigger was. He worked out the gist of what the Fae was saying from context though. The advice however did not seem to be welcome and the Zentail turned away from the other Fae without so much as a word to them to focus on the world around him. Quite typically he would have said something about the entire situation, especially about the random challenge and the approach of the two strangers. This was a Baroness they were speaking to after all. One to whom they owed absolute allegiance. He was quiet this time however. The Zentail first dropped to the rear of the group. Then silently he detached himself from the group now following the mage. When his troops attempted to follow him however, he made a sharp gesture for them to follow Regula instead. Awkwardly they stayed formed up behind the baroness's party instead. Retili seemed to be doing his best to lose the group following his experience now, making use of his (Speed, Rank A) to put the group behind him without looking outwardly as if he was attempting to do so.

Once he left the group behind Retili almost immediately made his way to a small stand of trees he spotted nearby. Under the shade of one of them he sat down with his back to it then removed a canteen from a strap that ran from his left shoulder to right hip. He drank deeply of a cool herbal tea kept inside the canteen. Then he rested his head on his knees as the facade of togetherness faded away. The Zentail was still very shaken up by the experience, and for perhaps the first time in his life he found himself feeling very small in a world of large people. He just wanted to sit a moment in quiet away from the others.

Micah didn't particularly expect a positive reaction, so he just straightened back up and sighed. Oh well. It's not like he was a therapist. He just learned things for his own benefit. He remained towards the back of the group as they began moving again. He looked uncomfortable, especially after Amanda's explanation. To him it just sounded like cult behavior and he definitely didn't want anything to do with that. Or anything religious. Not even close. His back crawled just from the thought. Once he could take a bath, he'd have to scrub it again.. like that could get rid of the traces..

"..." Ryan froze up upon hearing Cynthia's words. Damn, he was too evident. Terrific, now he was publicly a complete inept. His head raised just enough to make Cynthia aware he was listening. "Ah, don't worry about it... I'm just... tired... yeah, tired." His monotone voice not too different from the one he uses on strangers, though it was lacking in the usual undertones of nervousness and sparks of excitement. It could potentially be attributed to exhaustion.

"Thank you..." Ryan answered when offered a baked treat, without a second thought, Ryan took it and took a hefty bite of it. "It's... really good" Ryan complimented the baker. As he was about to go back to cast his head down, the fellow blacksmith in the cart spoke. Was she being serious? He somehow doubted that. Aileen then triggered an unexpected reaction from Ryan. On one hand, he feared for Aileen to trust her safety to weak person such as himself. On the other, she just told him she was willing to protect Ryan as much as he was to her. "I..." He then laughed briefly, pulling his hood down further, hiding his reddened expression "I still have a long way to go as a fighter... But I'll do my best if it means your safety" a brief relief felt evident for an instant in his speech, before his voice going back to the monotone.

Teuihua was more than relieved when things seemed to deescalate even if the group wasn't on the best terms with the locals they had just encountered. He really didn't want to have to fight them if it could be avoided, which for now it seemed it could be. Despite this he still kept a guarded look, and noticed when the attention hadn't been taken off of him, this wasn't particularly unusual for him, he was used to getting all kinds of looks even back in his time just by the very fact he was a construct, which people had varying opinions and degrees of tolerance of from his experience.

After they were given permission to pass, something that apparently the guarded pair felt the need to due even knowing that it was the Baroness, Amanda came out of the woodwork to explain what was going on, which also made Teuihua feel a bit better. Maybe he could get some satisfactory answers of his own. Once it seemed that the chance of violence had died down after giving the immediate area a look around, noticing that Ryan and Micah while they weren't harmed they didn't seem to be in the best spirits; not understanding what Micah had meant by that strange word either, and Retili seemed to look sort of like what Teuihua had seen some soliders look like on occasion, weary. Aileen on the other hand seemed to be in positive spirits thankfully, and while Ezeikel hadn't been welcomed for whatever reason he was much like most of the others it seemed to the golem, concerned perhaps. Teuihua moved over and put his more dexterous hand back on the cart getting ready to lug it along, while he listened to what Amanda had to say.

Whatever the group these people were part of sounded like an important faction to Kirkwall based on what Amanda was saying. These Hunters as she called them almost sounded like vigilantes of sorts who were well respected. That didn't make what they had done any less problematic, Teuihua quickly thought to himself. This last rocky relationship sounded like it could be problematic for the transition of power. Fighting being forbidden in Kirkwall was very strange to Teuihua indeed, many disagreements had been settled by duels and blood shed in his civilization so a ban on something so natural felt strange.

Despite the comment Amanda made about golems being Kirkwall's natural enemy, he didn't seem to react much to this revelation. It wasn't anything new to the golem, just more of the same status quo he had experienced in various places simply for existing. Perhaps they had bad prior experiences with constructs. All Teuihua could really do was try his best to fulfill his duties without upsetting people too much. Teuihua didn't need someone to personally like him to want to help them just the same as his creators intended him too.
While Teuihua saw Regula move up to speak more discretely to Amanda he did not hear what they were talking about at that point, so instead he waited on standby for further instrunction, looking around vigilantly every now and again from his position to keep an eye on the group and their surroundings.

Amanda wasn't all too surprised when the Baroness dragged her away from the rest of the group, however, she had expected it to be for a stern talking-to. Not to be asked such a question instead. With Regula's insight, it was easy to tell that the Question had left Amanda quite uncomfortable and in quite a tough position. However, begrudgingly the woman answered her Baroness after but a short delay "Ashely is... Well. Ashley is the Hunter who handles the more... how would you say. Dark aspects of security. I have no doubt she's killed many a threat to the town in her time as a Hunter. We just, don't talk about it."

Looking around nervously Amanda sighed softly and gave into the Baroness's words, unable to resist the social pressure they imposed "Look, Ashely is a good person. I have no doubt about that and neither would anyone else in Kirkwall. She's one of our protectors and she lives her life solely to do so. I would have no reason to fear putting my life in her hands. She's rough around the edges, has a bad temper, and she a bit sadistic at times... but she'd never hurt somebody who didn't deserve it. So no, there are no real rumours about her killing anyone going around."

Taking a step back Amanda straightened her posture and steeled herself, conviction shining through regardless of the Baroness's insight "Ashley is a hero. sometimes bad things need to be done for good reasons. Ashely understands that and without her, as much as I hate to say it, we would be lost"

The mage introduced herself as Fiona, a half-elf shamen and one of the village's hunters. While Amanda was pulled away by the Baroness the woman would go on to further explain that Kirkwall is a rather large village that is governed by two mayors. Those two being Mayor Levin and Mayor Kirkwall. Though hesitant to comment on exactly why there were two mayors in Kirkwall the woman was happy enough to explain to everyone that Kirkwall had seen huge growth since its founding. The woman warned the town was a bit unorganised in structure but doubled down on what Amanda had said about the people being very welcoming and kindhearted.

Mentioning the Fey the woman went on to explain that the forest east of Kirkwass was off-limits to outsiders such as those in the group. The forest was the home of Kirkwall's elven population and as isolationists near the eastern kingdom's border. Well, it was safe to say any forbidden entry would likely result in a much less peaceful confrontation, which was saying something. The last thing she spoke of was the Boarder Hill and how it was most definitely off-limits to all. Though unlike with the forest, Fiona refused to elaborate further, insisting that all travel to and through the area was currently forbidden.

With the Baroness and Amanda returning the woman readied herself and lead the group to the village. It was a twenty-minute walk but soon it came into view.

1679551467047.png

Upon reaching the village the group were met with what was undoubtedly a mess. What was supposed to be a village was actually on a long winding road with houses and businesses thrown up in any way they might have fit together. Like a dysfunctional jigsaw, one might say. Though the buildings were rather good quality and the business seemingly prosperous the area and its design were completely flawed. For one, the group's cart had no chance of navigating the area, it would need to be abandoned alongside the plethora of other carts near the village entrance. That aside it even seemed as though the tight and shoddy road would prove an issue for Teuihua in general. Just what had happened here? Why was such a large village so dysfunctionally organised?

Looking at the sign post some key areas were made known to the group. Others were pointed out by Amanda or Cyhtia then after.
  • The Wolf Rest Inn and Tavern
  • Town Hall
  • Stroop Bakery
  • The Hammer Fall Smithy
  • Woodpine Carpentry
  • Nekomia's Oddities and General Merchants

Going forward it seemed that so long as the group stayed away from the forest and Boarder Hill they were welcome to sightsee and do as they pleased. That being said there was no shortage of attention drawn toward Teuihua. Whispers and glares being shared among those passing in the street. Although, on closer inspection, Ryan too had earned himself quite a few wandering stares given his proximity to the two cousins no doubt. Retili, and his men also earned a few glances but for the most part, Micah and Regula went unnoticed.

You are now all free to progress as you see fit. My goals for you were listed in the first post but feel free to diverge from what I had in mind and explore to your heart's content. I will do my best to accommodate such!

Conflicted. That was what Regula felt. She'd gotten an answer out of Amanda, of some kind, but it was far from satisfying. It was clear enough that Amanda wouldn't talk about specifics, likely staying ignorant about them on purpose, as they revered these Hunters too much. However, to what degree was that part of a cult-following? Had Amanda been brainwashed along with the others in this village? Regula was reminded of the titles she'd seen on Elizabeth, all the way back in the Magic Duchy. Mage Doriel had been able to torture the woman in public with no repercussions due to her having simple, low-ranking criminal title. However, that process was also why she didn't blindly trust criminal titles. After all, she knew something fishy had been going on right there, which meant it could happen elsewhere.

The latter put her into a difficult position. She wasn't able to let her guard down when questioning Amanda, not yet at least. “Titles, especially at that level, aren't appearing easily. She must have tortured and killed thousands or more, or she must've tortured and killed some people of great importance. If those people had even the slightest criminal title to their name, even as much as simple theft or vandalism, she wouldn't have gotten a title of her own for it, for crimes against criminals go unpunished in the eyes of the world. The same goes for monsters. As a result, she must have tortured and killed those that come across as perfectly innocent in the eyes of the world, regardless of whether they truthfully were innocent or not. It means that there are only two options. Either she's not the saint everyone believes her to be, or she's being set-up by someone very powerful.”

A third option, namely that she was simply doing exactly what Amanda said she was doing, could be excluded. After all, there was no doubt in Regula's mind that such a high grade criminal title could never stem from someone being a genuine force of good, unless there was a set-up. After all, such a set-up was how she herself became an East-Empire Fugitive. She suddenly realised she was putting a lot of stress on Amanda, so she decided to calm down a bit. If she wanted to have a chance at sorting this out, having someone with insider knowledge on her side would be valuable. She'd used the stick, but had yet to offer a carrot.

That carrot would be the sharing of some of Regula's own experiences. “For what it's worth, I know perfectly well how it's possible to set someone up. After all, it's how me and Aria became East Empire Fugitives, despite attempting to stop a terrorist from releasing those deadly bugs along the East-Empire and the See's borders. The terrorist had connections to high enough places to put us high up on the wanted list, simply for wishing to save lives and stop the conflict.”

She figured that sharing that much would be enough to show her willingness to believe in Amanda's opinion on Ashley, but even so, there was another example. “I've also seen a mage publicly torturing a woman into obedience in gruesome manners in the Magic Duchy. The man was considered a saint there, someone that every single person there believed to be a force for good who'd never falter. Yet to an outsider like me, all I could see was a monster who'd somehow figured out how to abuse criminal titles for his own good. To this day, I regret being too powerless to help her and punish him for his crimes.” Her nails had started digging themselves into her palms as she was thinking back on that awful failure. This wasn't where she wanted to go by saying this, why did she start showing weaknesses when she was instead trying to seem strong?

She got back on topic. “What I'm trying to say, is that I want to believe you, but that there's an undeniable large risk attached to it. Michael was excommunicated simply because he attempted to resurrect people to make up for past mistakes. Lord Light, who wasn't even directly involved, was killed due the sudden split-off from Sol County into Soul Country. If they're willing to excommunicate heroes and execute Counts for creating a miracle, how much more would they be willing to do against a mere Baroness housing a highly dangerous criminal? It'd not just be my job they'd be after, but also my life and perhaps the lives of those closest to me, my mother and Aria. That also goes for everyone in Kirkwall who might've known about it, yet kept silent.” She really wanted to make sure that that Amanda realised the gravity of this situation.

Hence she didn't stop just there. “Mind you, it's not even about whether she is truly guilty or not . The fact is that she has those titles alone can used against me with ease. Her existence is like a sharpened dagger on my throat. Anyone with the slightest bit of bad intention against me might decide to use it with a simple push, such as hinting at her presence here and the fact I might know about it without acting on it. That alone, if done by the wrong person, might end up costing me everything.” She sighed, feeling rather stressed from this unexpected problem arising before she'd even set foot in Kirkwall. Her initial excitement about finally seeing what Amanda had been talking about had vanished like a single snowflake in high noon in the Sahara desert.

“Here's my proposal. I'll not act rashly. Rather than immediately reporting her or trying to apprehend her, I'll try to investigate the circumstances under which she obtained these titles. Likewise, I'm hoping you'll assist me where possible, but more than that, as my advisor, I'd like you to help me research if there's a way to rid her off those titles, in case your claims about her hold up. In the meantime, just in case, let's do our best to keep it hidden and to have our stories straight in case it gets revealed. If someone finds out about it before I've been able to deal with it properly, I will admit that we had our suspicions, but that it wasn't safe to make a move against her due to her connections with the rest of the village and the risk of her vanishing and making a more dangerous move. We can also claim we wanted to see if her titles could be traced back to a bigger network first, if need-be. It won't be much, but such a story might at least buy is some time if worst comes to pass.”

Once again, she sighed. “To think a simple trip was going to start off so complicated so soon...” Then she shook her head. “Be glad that I came to like you, as every fiber in my being tells me I'm taking too much of a risk and should simply report her, rather than risk this much. It's your word alone that makes me act otherwise, so please don't let me down on this.”

She used the short walk back to the main group to regain her composure as best as she could. Either learning the information from Amanda or from Fiona repeating herself, Regula would eventually (hopefully and likely) get the same set-up as the others had gotten in her absence. Although it was tough to get her mind focussed on other things, she did her best to listen. The two mayors issue was sounding like it'd become another headache. It sounded like she'd obtain more information from the mayors themselves, however, so she decided to leave that issue for later.

The Fey were another interesting topic. Ever since she'd been made into a See Inquisitor, she'd been interested in strengthening her bonds to The See and to their race in general. Being able to get on good terms with Fey isolationists might be a good move in that quest. Especially as they'd chosen to live near the eastern border, which was a peculiar choice. She also realised some benefit there. If these were still loyal to the See, it meant that their enemies would be enemies of the See. In others, it'd be enemies she'd be able to deal with without fearing criminal titles. In fact... Where was Retili, she wanted him to look into something for her. “Does anyone know where Retili went?” She'd ask, looking around for him without success.

That was a shame. She couldn't ask Amanda to take on yet another duty, whilst Aria was on her special mission. She counted herself blessed with so many friends and advisors, yet already felt short on one. Wait, there was another that might listen to her request. She'd turn to Teuihua. Yes... she had an idea that might work. “Say, I've got a request for you. This time, however, you're free to refuse it. First of all, I'd like for you to try to show the people here that their views on Golems is unjustified. Considering you were able to convince others of your good nature already, I think you're up for the task, even though it might be tougher to deal with an entire town of distrust. Secondly, I'd like for you to see if you can learn more about the activity of slavers in the border regions.” She knew that she'd been told that Border's Hill was off limit, but she frankly didn't quite care. She trusted the Golem to sturdy enough, should he be willing to go there, after his first missions here. “That said, both those are likely to pose their own troubles and risks, so I'm allowing you to refuse either or both of them.” She added, just to make it extra clear this wasn't a formal command she wanted him to feel forced to obey.

Despite all the stress thus far, she couldn't help a slight giggle when seeing the town. For housing an advisor so dedicated to planning, schematics and architecture, this town was indeed very 'messy', yet it was a homely type of mess. “This place as a nice feeling to it, very lively, although perhaps a bit claustrophobic.” She'd comment, looking around curiously.

There were various places she was interested in. The smithy, first and foremost, but that part of her had to rest a bit. The name 'Nekomia' sounded interesting as well. Then there was the Adventurer's Guild. Despite being part of it, she'd rarely visited the place, so entering it here might be interesting. However, before all of that could happen, the polite thing to do would be to meet with the mayors. After all, it could be seen as impolite for her to not make her presence know to them first and foremost. “I'd like to meet with the mayors. Am I correct to assume that I'll be able to find them at the Town Hall?” She asked, to whichever of the Kirkwallians was closest and/or first to answer her.

Micah didn't expect the settlement to be quite as haphazard as it was, but he definitely preferred it over uniformity. Now that they were ready to split up, Micah took Laverne to wherever the stables were so she could rest, before heading into the tavern.

Looking around, definitely feeling a bit uncertain even with his newfound purpose of learning more about those wild horses, he shuffled in place for a few moments before wandering up to the bar. "Hello.. could I ask about a rumor.. maybe?" He asked, trying not to stumble over his words. "There was a rumor in Sootspire that Kirkwall had some wild horse sightings.. Is there anyone in particular that could tell me more about them?" He fidgeted.

His blood, black and smeared all over the ground, all over Linneus' hands, soaking into his clothes. He could smell it even now as he gazed up at the leaves and studied them. The thick coppery odor. The haze that had descended on his mind. He remembered walking around the next day as bodies were gathered. A sickly sweet goatish scent had wafted this way and that on the battlefield, choking it's way into the lungs of anyone who had helped. After some time spent inwardly thinking Retili stood quietly from his position beneath the tree. He sealed the canteen with it's stopper and placed it back to it's place on his hip. With a small sigh he stood up and wandered away from the small stand of trees. Leaving it behind he began to wander around the outskirts of the village. Some small voice at the back of his mind nagged at him for neglecting his duties to the Baroness, but following his brief but traumatic encounter with the witch he couldn't help but feel that right now he wanted to think of something other then his duties. He avoided any people he saw utilizing his (Perception F) to spot them and detour around them. Anyone who was determinedly looking for the small fae would still likely spot him, but it allowed him to avoid any random villagers. Retili found himself travelling East. Not that he had any particular interest in the East. He was just wandering.

Soon he found himself on the border of a forest. The treeline stretched like a dark fortress of wood and leaves from the sprawling farmscapes that stretched out behind him. He had no idea that he was straying into the territory of the Fae, nor that it was forbidden to enter. He stood briefly at the forbidding boundary peering in for a moment before he plunged into the depths of the trees. His small form quickly swallowed up behind trunks and leafy limbs.

The extra attention on Teuihua was not unpredictable for the golem. Thankfully yet again he was more than willing to take the extra skepticism. Teuihua was not one who was particularly easy to offend, there had been plenty of times before where he was treated poorly, but he seldom let it get him down, as far as he was concerned it was just part of being a construct even if he much preferred it when he could have civil kind conversations with people. He tried his best to navigate the less than ideal road which seemingly hadn't been very well maintained. Presumably during this period of time he left the cart where it needed to go at the entrance due to logistical reasons of the floor plan, now that they were free to free roam.

As Teuihua lumbered along the Baronness he rotated his head toward her, curiously when she said it wasn't something that he need felt compelled to obey, which was not what Teuihua was used too at all. Realistically he wasn't under obligation to do what Regula wanted anyway, this wasn't his civilization, nor was she his creator, and he did have free will, so he was more so helping her because he wanted too, and believed that she was a just person trying to do good things, so it was logical he helped her do those things to him. Of course there was the fact that at this point he had taken her on as his Baroness so there was some of that obligation that the construct felt. Regardless with his strange situation of where he was from and the allegiance he had adopted, all of this said it was unlikely he would refuse what she told him unless he found it inherently problematic to an extent that it went against what he believed in or there were significantly more pressing matters on his mind.

The first request sounded well enough like something he could do. Try to show people that all constructs were not problematic, was something he already felt he did on most days by his actions. The best way of doing that would probably be trying to find people to assist.

"I believe I can fulfil that first request Baronness any perceived risk isn't anything that I haven't experienced for much of my life." He then heard her mention the second, investigating the slave trade, that sounded more riisky than the first, particularly since it meant he may need to deal with more problematic individuals depending on how he investigated. Even so he was willing to take on the second request as well.

"The logical move to investigate the slavers movement would be to go and ask those near the boarder then, I believe that I can also fulfill this task while I am here." Teuihua concluded.

Teuihua was in agreement when she commented on the layout of the place. He then spoke once more, "I shall begin these tasks then and will see you again when summoned or when I have made sufficient progress on them." Teuihua then looked to who remained nearby giving a small wave, before he tried to lumber off to a more populated area based on the signs to increase his chances of being able to assist someone, making his way toward the way the merchants area, gradually, trying his best not to cause any issues in a place where it didn't sound like he was particularly wanted by most.

Ryan Kylieth

Ryan’s smile peeked from under his hood for a moment. ”Thank you, I truly appreciate that… It motivates me more to do so”

Still hiding his face for the most part, Ryan remained quiet. Something still felt off for him. And the stares weren’t helping his bad mood ”… Why are they staring at me? Did I do something wrong?” he asked to whoever could respond.

Regula Elvario Elvario

"Claustrophobic is certainly one word for it, I'll give you that." Amanda commented in response her eyes following the Baroness and her curious gaze. It was good to be home and truth be told even though it had only been a little over a week, Amanda missed it. These narrow streets, that terrible city planning, the smiles and waves she got from those who passed by. It was nice, no it was delightful to be home. Even with all the drama at the border. That being said the Baroness' order to have Teuihua disregard the travel ban and venture out to the are was concerning. Amanda hadn't been to Boarderhill since she was a child but considering what she knew of the area, sending a sentient construct there was, well it was cruel. To all parties. Though before she could speak up on the matter, Teuihua was off.

With the Baroness asking about the Mayors then, Amanda decided it best to accompany her to the Town Hall. That was what an advisor did right? So walking along behind the woman Amanda directed her toward the Town Hall while speaking quietly to her as they travelled. "I don't mean to cast doubt or judgement on your decisions Lady Celia but. Well, to be frank, Boarderhill, it's a warzone. Or was... would be more fitting. The area it overlooks is a wasteland, battle-scarred through and through, there's no way any civilians let alone slave traders would pass through the area. It would be a death sentence. You see, there was an ancient war there, the Fae and Eastern Empire fought a deadly battle there in the past and the remnants are well... Golems. Hundreds of them. Every so often one will reactivate and cause havoc. If the area is blocked off at the moment it means there's likely one in the area. I doubt Teuihua will be in any danger, he'll likely be stopped before he can reach the battlefield, but it might be. I don't know if Golems can feel sorrow or the like but such a sight might hurt him."

Waving her hands in a panic Amanda began to blush a deep red with embarrassment "I really don't mean to offend. It's just I thought, well I should inform you of such, right?".

Fortunately for Amanda, they had arrived at the town hall and so a topic change was easily achieved "This is the Kirkwall Town Hall. Here you'll commonly find both of our mayors. Mayor Kirk and Mayor Levin. They don't get along, at all. Both are older in years and although you should be able to handle both, Mayor Kirk is easier to work with, Mayor Levin will be more of a challenge though I doubt he'll do anything to offend. At least not at first. Shall we head inside, or would you rather handle this alone?"

1679801939359.png

"Alone! Who are you saying's alone? I chose to be single Miss Steelhaven!". No sooner had Amanda asked Regula the question, did the door of the Hall swing open. A small man appeared with a grin on his face "Well? Whos this strapping young Valkerie hmm? A woman so fine and fair couldn't possibly be the new Baroness you mentioned in your letter now could it Gahaha!?"

Amanda visibly cringed in response to the Mayor's words, taking a step back "Mayor Levin? Are you... laughing? Was that a joke!"

The Mayor would then pat Amanda firmly on the back and smile toward Regula with a bow "Come now child I'm always smiling am I not?"

"No! no, you're not! You're weirding me out! Please stop, grumble and complain, tell me about how the youth of today know nothing of the world! Or Tell me how I cause nothing but trouble!"

"Gahaha, come now Miss Steelhaven, Enough of your joking. I have an important guest here to see me. Go along now, play with the other kids or something while I talk to the Baroness"

Micah found himself wandering into The Wolf Rest Inn and Tavern, the heart of Kirkwall and its social scene. Despite it being practically midday the place was already full of people from all walks of life. Adventurers, regular jacks, Fae, Beastkin, Humans, and anything in between. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and all around the place laughter and conversation could be heard. It was easy to tell this place was full of good and honest people, not a single soul looked out of place or dubious. Not one even looked remotely sketchy and behind the bar stood one man. The very Bartender Micah had asked for help.

"Rumours of horses? Yeh, I've heard a few. But I wouldn't recommend going after them if I was you. Fae touched they are. At least that's the word around town. Meant to be free, left to nature. Shame too, seems the lead stallion is a real catch, a real war horse if ever there was one.". Filling a tankard with ale the man would pass it to Micah with a smile "If you want me to tell you any more, you're going to need to start buying some ale, my friend"

Retili conman2163 conman2163

After what would be a short walk for the fast Retili, he would come across the ruins of what seemed to be an old shrine or church. In the centre of the area, a tree had taken root and would provide the small fae with the perfect cover under which to sit should he so choose. The area itself felt strangely mystical even to those not attuned to nature or magic. Something about the place just seemed, welcoming, almost lulling. The longer Retili would spend in and around the area the more appealing the tree and its cover would seem to be, a perfect place to nap and recover from the heartache and anguish just suffered.

In actual fact, the closer to the tree he got the more soothing the area became. Those terrible thoughts and worries he had previously been suffering from, lightening with each step. Would Retili brave the tree or give into temptation? What was the worst that could happen anyway?

Teuihua TheTimePiece TheTimePiece

Teuihua hadn't all that far to go until he reached the Market area, a bustling hub of activity. Farm goods and produce were in abundance and more surprisingly so too was weaponry. It didn't appear as though the town had any access to ore so all those on sale had to have been imported at quite a cost yet were being bought up by adventurers without worry. How strange a sight given the Barony's overall crippled economy.

As it had been since his arrival here in Kirkwall, Teuihua had been the centre of attention, something that only seemed to get worse now he was all on his lonesome. People stayed well and thoroughly out of his way and any attempt to speak with a person was met with a whimper and rapid retreat. In fact one could have sworn the weapons only became more popular since his arrival on the street.

Though, surprisingly there was one person who approached him. A tall Beastkin with a curious gleam in her eye. Carrying an umbrella the woman gave off a noble aura, speaking and walking with clear class and elegance. "My my, what have we here? A golem, walking around within the town limits? How intriguing. Tell me, Mr Golem, where and who might your master be? They really shouldn't have left you on your lonesome in a place such as this. Look how much discord it's sowing already. Tsk tsk, poor thing".

Ryan Valkan Valkan

When Ryan asked why it was people were looking their way, Cynthia couldn't help but blush a deep red. Her ears practically glowed as she realised how much attention they had been getting now everyone else had departed "Oh, eh, well. You see! My father... He eh, well he's not the biggest fan of me seeing guys. They likely assume I've brought you home from Sootspire to eh, well I'm of wedding age now so ahhhh! Don't make me say it! Aileen! Help me!"

Steam practically rising now, Cynthia took Ryan by the arm and began dragging him off toward the blacksmiths, which only made the situation worse as whispers began whirling like a storm around them "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry"

"Ahem..."

"EEEEEK! IM SORRY!"

With Ryan's other arm now firmly in the grips of what was quite clearly Cynthia's father, the two were stopped dead in their tracks. Or rather Ryan was. Now bing pulling from both directions by two far stronger individuals than himself. When Cynthia would pull him toward herself, her father would pull him back. A game of tug in which ryan was the rope.

"Imagine my surprise, here I am, minding my own business. Out for a walk, when all of a sudden I see my daughter GALLIVANTING with some STRANGER!"

"I wasn't! This is a misunderstanding, I mean! Yes, I like him and I think he's really quite dashing but! AILEEEEEEN!"

"Don't you be calling Aileen, she's got nothing to do with this! This here's between me and this thieving little rascal! Come on boy, Speak up! What are you doing hmm? Trying to mislead my little girl, are we? Rob her of her innocence!"
