This dude was so much easier to piss off than she expected, it was almost funny. Her words also had the expected impact. Anger, frustration and most of all, a lesser ability to stay calm and collected. That's how she needed them to be, right now. She did, for a short moment, wonder if she'd pushed it too much. If they were just thrown out, that'd make things a tad bit more difficult to investigate. Luckily enough, that wasn't needed. “Tendrils!” She called out to warn everyone, the moment she spotted them.

To see one of the guards smashed away by that same tendril was insane. The thing didn't look that strong at all, yet it'd smashed away an entire guard?!? Either way, her suspicions had already been confirmed. These tendril things had taken hold of he lord and likely of his daughters as well.

As Kane jumped forwards, she'd [Halfling Parkour C] to fall back. She was glad this guard was the man's nephew. Why? If they had to kill him, they'd have someone that wouldn't easily be suspected of murder and who's story might be believable enough. That's why she didn't feel bad about making her way out of that room as soon a she could. She'd only get in the way of a battle, after all.

Admittedly, her heart was beating rapidly. She'd been surprised. Not by the tendrils, but by their power and ferocity. That was worse than she expected. There were clearly things she didn't know yet... but perhaps she could. If they infected the lord, perhaps there were still some clues left in his house as to how or why, right? Yes.

She nodded to herself. Kane and the guard could handle that battle, she was the detective, not the fighter, so she'd investigate, not fight. Yes. She took a few very deep breaths, calming her nerves, as she went to look through the mansion. The Lord's office was a bad spot, but there were other rooms of interest. The daughter's rooms, the lord's bedroom. So long as she could hear the fight remain the the study, she should be free to snoop around using [Ultimate Detective A].

Kane Blackburne & Night Guard Captain Robert Hoyles

Kane and Robert were still struggling with the tendrils now as they were all over the room, not all that long after Victorique had given the warning.

Kane had no idea what grade this thing was, nor did his current combat partner it appeared, Kane knew that he wasn’t by any mean too strong yet just starting out never mind the fact his lack of combat experience from his background, but he also knew that he couldn’t just do nothing, He knew that even as unlikable as this Lord Hoyles guys seemed unnecessarily killing him was off the table, nor did Kane wish to murder someone.Not to mention it sounded like to him that Robert had still been somewhat conscious. Kane decided that his best bet was going to be to try to strike it with something that wouldn’t be able to kill it but instead compromise it’s offensive capabilities. So Kane raised his Axe and a red gleam extended forth hitting the tendrils illuminating it briefly using Novice Preparation of Rites. Unfortunately due to the grade discrepancy the ability only seemed to moderately slow down the creature, however this weakened the strength of the tendrils enough, that Robert was able to raise his blade and move in closer, a gleam in his eyes,

Kane attempts to Incapacitate a low grade target by temporarily paralyzing them with a non lethal strike. Commonly used by beginner executioners. Grade F - 0 Post Cooldown

“I won’t let this evil take you uncle, I’ll free you here and now! Judgement smite this creature and send it back to the foul depths it came from!” His blade began to glow a golden color as electricity seemed to flow throughout it as he walked toward determined, an aura filling up the room, causing Kane to look over a bit awed, their difference in skill and power very apparent to him now.

While this was ongoing and Victorique got away from the action, she could still definitely hear the struggle in the office, with her enhanced hearing, but thankfully none of the tendrils seemed to be following her. First looking into the nearest daughter’s room, she’d see what looked like a pretty typical scene, a nice large soft bed with optional curtains, a dresser, and closet of many expensive looking outfits, a moderate but elegant desk which seemed to have a few books, and there appeared to be some romance novels there. In a small container on the desk was some colorful material and tools for knitting.

What was a bit more unusual however was that on the desk there was a piece of parchment which looked like there was a blood stain on the right corner of it, as well as some most unusual scratch marks and symbols on the paper, that didn’t appear to be in any of the language which Victorique knew written in ink. On the parallel corner to the blood stain there was a burn mark. The symbols and scratch marks appeared to be rather aggressively created.

The second daughter’s room which Victorique investigated had a similar bed, as well as components but instead of on the dresser in that room there was another larger piece of parchment which had what sort of looked like a diagram of the town square which Victorique had been in not that long ago, which had been placed on an art easel where there were various colors and brushes available. What was strange about the drawing however was that there appeared to be a circle drawn around where people would be gathered usually, and there were strange symbols which appeared to be around the circle of the ground that looked very similar to the symbols on the paper that Victorique saw in the first room, in fact the majority of them matched up. It also looked like there were tendrils coming out of the circle ground that had been drawn which looked very similar to ones she had encountered.

The most problematic scene was when Victorique entered Lord Hoyles’ bedroom, and could see that a circle similar to the one in the drawing had been etched into the expensive wooden floor, the carpet being torn up, damage on the walls all around. The circle etched into the ground radiated away from the master bed which was king sized and the mattress and pillows were absolutely covered with what looked like old dried blood. Even the ornate chest in the room looked like it had been smashed in, not only that the floor with the circle had small holes in it, so did the bed.

After looking around to that scene Victorique was then quickly made aware of a frantic tapping the closet door sound coming from Lord Hoyles’ closet now, and what sounded like someone who was muffled making panicked frantic sounds. Thanks to her enhanced sense of smell she could tell there was someone definitely behind that door, but who was anyone’s guess until she saw what was behind it for herself…

Aftermath

There seems to be dark tidings brewing in the Kingdom, the dungeon excursion unraveled a wealth of information. Though for what they uncovered there still seemed to be many questions that were left unanswered. With the matter of a possible noble helping the monsters brought to light the guards and the other nobles in the Kingdom have become far more alert than before. While many of them will not drop their silver spoons, the noble class has become more wery of one another and thus seeds of discourse have been planted.
