How to Get People to Your RP

If you were to start a roleplay, what's the best method on getting people to join it? Just wait?

It's a combination of a good pitch, advertising, and your name on RPN.

Now, on to your question! Once you post an interest check thread, you may just have to wait. RPN is a remarkably active community, so if you put even a little effort into your RP pitch, you're bound to snag some interest within the first 24-48 hours. Sometimes, however, it takes a few days before the right people come along. Just be patient and, more often than not, someone will reply. You can also advertise a link to your interest check/role play thread in your signature or post a status update to give yourself a few more places to subtly alert people that your role play exists. Also, if you've established some friendly relationships here with other players, you can tag the people you think might find your RP interesting. And, if you're chummy enough with them, ask them to invite anyone they might know to take a look, too. So if you have those connections, don't by shy about using them to your advantage. Most people on this site love getting referred to role plays they might have missed, so this helps people discover your role play more quickly.


If you've already waited a substantial period of time (a week or longer) and no one has responded and you don't know people well enough to tag them, it may simply be time to re-write your RP pitch. Perhaps people just aren't understanding your idea, or maybe it's too vague or specific for them to feel comfortable jumping in. Proofreading goes a long way, too. 


Keep in mind there are lots of different types of role players on this site. If you want to attract detailed writers, you'll need to advertise your RP accordingly (with detail, a well-written concept, and possibly a structure for rules and general RP logistics). If you want something more casual, then a novel idea alone should suffice. In short, know your audience.

Clarity,persistence and hustle.


You want interested people who are as excited about it as you are. You don't need 20 replies from unique sources if you can find 4 good ones. 


Be clear in your pitch and maybe add some dazzle to it. Click bait is an eye catcher but it's not good in the long run since you're trying to be selective.


If you're not getting much of a response then boop it up and edit your page to be cleaner and improve on the story rather than just twiddle your thumbs. You can always try again later on.
 


Boop when you think it's needed and be active while trying to find like minded individuals you think would like your RP. Don't go in aggressive but don't be afraid to converse. Worse comes to worse you have a new pal to chat with online.

Make friends with your players. Talk to them not just about the roleplay but about their lives and interests. The more invested they are in you as a person the more invested they'll be in your roleplays.


Also don't be afraid to time skip or change things up if it's not working. If you have entered a stalemate wait a week then just time skip into the next part of the roleplay ( less time if the average response is something like once an hour or so ).
