Advice/Help How do I roleplay Deadpool

Hi all! Now I know my stupid preteen name may diverge from my knowledge of any other superhero, but I really like DP. I've been thinking about starting to roleplay him because he's just so badass and funny, but I feel like I'm going to totally bomb his character. I do not want to do this. I know that there are some Deadpool Roleplay Specialists out there so... HOW?!? Also just some general roleplay advice 'cause I don't want to sound like a dumbass.

Why not write a short story featuring him? Before you start, make a few notes about how you'd like to present him, and then use them as a guide. If you can't find his voice in your short story I doubt you'll be able to find it in a roleplay.

When in doubt, research, research, research. Pick up some Deadpool comics from your local comic store, or find them online. No better way to mimic than to know the source material.

I agree with devouring source material - I imagine everyone does. But in terms of "mimicking" another writer, I don't suggest it. In the genre of superheroes comics it's proven unnecessary. While there is usually a character throughline for established characters there's also enough wiggle room to make them your own.

Gail Simone's Wonder Woman has a different voice than Brian Azzarello's. There're similarities but nothing verging on mimicry. Same for Ed Brubaker's Captain America and Mark Waid's. I write a lot of canon characters, and in every single case I use my own voice.

Wit, nonsense, a desperate need to escape the knowledge that everyone is a fictional character, even him ... The only way to do it is balls first, maximum effort. Why don't you throw down a paragraph and give it a shot. Just anything. Something about rectums maybe?
