It is UC 0085, five years after the One Year War. Zeon lost the war in space, losing its ruling family in that apocalyptic struggle, but it’s holdings in Africa and Europe remain. The Greater Spacenoid Republic of Zeon is a republic in name only. In reality, it is controlled by a cabal of military officers, who have installed wounded war hero Gerhart Schmitzer as Chancellor. While an uneasy peace exists with the Federation, largely out of pragmatism, there is a growing demand from the fringe for a renewed war, and an outside threat which threatens to shake the stars once more.
As for the Federation, things are largely the same for better or worse. Civilian leadership is as corrupt as ever, with much of Dakar in the pockets of the Anaheim conglomerate. Those who lament this state of affairs do so in private, not wishing to impugn the name of those who built the war-winning Gundam. As for the military, it is in a state of rebuilding, of rearmament, but not one of idleness. The One Year War greatly weakened Federal power, and the EFF finds itself fighting brushfire wars throughout the Earth Sphere.
Chief amongst both nations’ concerns are the Zodiac, a terrorist organization within the colonies. Rejecting both the GSR and the Federation, they fight for revenge on those who wronged them during the War. If not stopped, it could grow to envelop the whole of the Earth Sphere. Worse still, the Zodiac has agents in both governments, working to destabilize them and destroy the fragile peace.
The drums of war beat again. Once more, the name of “Gundam” will bring change to the Earth Sphere...
