There was an imaginary line in the metaphorical sand between humans and the fae.
Yet with the mischief of immature faes, alongside our oh so human curiosity... we still cannot help ourselves.
For us, simple humans, learning of magic buzzing in our veins was a novelty. Then, a skill to train obsessively.

Elder faes, crawling out from their wilderness, came to finally tell us of our true destiny: controlling this world's elements and their respective seasons.
We then started to choose guardians to represent the best of us, the most magical of us.
Guardians who offered their life and physical body in exchange for an immortal life serving Mother Nature.
Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring. Each assigned a knighted human, blessed with powers, burdened with responsibility.

This was already a gift that the fae could've very well kept to themselves. We should've been honored.
Still, our most frivolous humans could not help the fae's mysterious appeal.
Still, we begged the fae for soul contracts. To change our fate, to see into our future, to fall in love, to be rich with treasures, to be powerful beyond belief.
Each coming with its own price, yet we could not stop doing it. The youngest of the fae welcomed us with twisted grins and open arms, giggling.

With our strange addiction to the fae, a young guardian-to-be saw first-hand into something she shouldn't have seen: the fae territory was dying. Its magic depleting.
A young fae did something he shouldn't have done: he accepted her reckless, empathetic offer.
And she did what humans do, what inexperienced guardians do, recklessly, full of deadly empathy:
She helped them. With her powers, she healed their lands.
A debt from the fae to humanity, not the reverse. Pure blasphemy.
Unforgivable blasphemy. A debt that could take centuries to be properly paid.

With every threat they offer to help us with... we expect many tricks up faes' sleeves, as grateful as they are, by fae laws, forced to be.
We watch the change of the seasons, and the knighting of new guardians. We face each new threat, no longer alone.

The strangest of allyships begins.
