"Well, perhaps you should have," Lady LaFaren said.

Emmalia cut in, "Mother. We just need to stay here a bit where we will know it's safe."

"Well, I suppose I must, you are my daughter after all, no matter how ungrateful you are."

 

[Solar Daddy]

Callum resisted the urge to defend his wife for now, but any more comments towards her and he'd have to intervene. "Thank you for your hospitality." He said with gritted teeth.

 

[Dragongal]

Lady LaFaren had a servant show them to a large section of the castle, the guest wing, which was now almost entirely theirs.

 

[Solar Daddy]

Callum sighed when they got to their room and set his things down. "I'm sorry you'll have to endure your mother. And I'm sorry for the loss of your father."

 

[Dragongal]

Emmalia shook her head. "We have no choice but to deal with her, and I don't know how I feel about my dad's death. I don't know if I feel anything at all."

 

[Solar Daddy]

Callum nodded, but either way decided to pull her into an embrace. He kissed her head and said, "I love you."

 

[Dragongal]

"Love you too, Cal," Em mumbled, nestling herself against him.

 

[Solar Daddy]

After a bit, Callum asked, "Want to walk around and explore our new surroundings?" He asked.

 

[Dragongal]

"Sure. Not very new to me, but it would be smart to refresh my memory," Emmalia said.

 

[Solar Daddy]

Callum nodded and held her hand, taking her through the various halls and rooms as he explored their new setting.

 

[Dragongal]

It was a rather large wing of the castle that they had all to themselves, along with a number of servants.

 

[Solar Daddy]

When they had finished the tour, Callum came back to their room. "It's not bad," He commented. "It's a fresh start for us."

 

[Dragongal]

"Relatively fresh," Em said with a nod. "Let's just not loss mom off too badly."

 

[Solar Daddy]

Callum agreed. "We're guests, but we have a whole wing to ourselves. I'm sure we won't be ridiculed too badly here."

 

[Dragongal]

"Or hunted down by our own guards," Em chuckled.

 

[Solar Daddy]

"Yes, that would be very bad to happen twice." He laughed, and kissed her cheek.

 

[Dragongal]

"Yes, so let's avoid attracting too much attention if possible," Em said.

 

[Solar Daddy]

Callum nodded. "Agreed. Hopefully they don't mind us too much."

 

[Dragongal]

"Yeah. If mom gave us too much, we can dismiss some of them to go do other jobs," Em said.

 

[Solar Daddy]

"That's true. We still have a few leads near Camilla's shop-" He paused. "I need to check on Camilla, and Cameron."

 

[Dragongal]

"Yes, write a letter and I'll get it to a courier without mom ever knowing," Emmalia said.

 

[Solar Daddy]

"But the guards might be confiscating mail," Callum said. "It might be too risky to send a letter."

 

[Dragongal]

"What else could we do?" Em asked.

 

[Solar Daddy]

"I could go there on my own." Callum suggested.

 

[Dragongal]

"No, absolutely not. We escape them, then travel all the way here, just for you to want to go back? No," Em said sternly. She wasn't about ti compromise.
