Log #380- Councilor Jayven Ross

"It's been many years since the heroes of old fell to Salem's forces."

"Those of us that still had grandparents by the time we were six would often tell stories about the world before the Great Collapse. They would tell us Remnant was once a vibrant place with bustling cities called 'Kingdoms'. A time when the Grimm could do very little to fight against mankind. They were limited to wandering outside the limits of these Kingdoms. That heroes called Huntsman and Huntresses protected the world from Salem and her brood. People never worried about whether they would live to see the next day."

"They told us that there was this great ball of fire in the sky that lit up the world with light and colors as far as the eye could see. A fragmented, luminescent circle called the moon illuminated the night."

"These stories were the only thing that kept us distracted from the death just beyond the walls. A momentary respite from dust and decay. Just a minute to imagine that life could be another way."

"But as we grew older, it was clear that it was all just that. Stories. Something to keep the younglings occupied while the adults died defending what little remains. The same stories I have repeated to frightened children to ease their nerves when the bone chilling howls of the Grimm became too much to bare. Even for me."

"Faren is the last bastion of mankind left. The only remaining colony with some form of society. There are some splintered cells of people hiding out somewhere in the Gloom but they never last longer than a few months. It always ends the same way for them. Killed by the Grimm, Rats, starvation, or the Blight."

"Hope died with the stories of the old heroes. All we can do is fight and pray to live another day. We don't have time for hope."

"Hell, even the word 'hope' sounds as fantastical as 'The Sun'"
