Aura: Aura is the manifestation of one's soul and can be used for a wide range of abilities. The specific abilities and their strengths differ from individual to individual and are dependent on a number of factors, such as experience, training and innate skill.

It is predominantly used for protection from harm. Some people develop an active power called a Semblance. -RWBY wiki

Semblance: Semblance is the manifestation of one's innate and personal power as an ability unique to each individual, with the effects varying greatly from user to user. The nature of one's Semblance is noted as representing an aspect of their character. However, a person's Semblance can be similar to the Semblances of their parents or other family members. Semblances are like muscles and are able to grow and evolve - RWBY wiki

Grimm:

The Creatures of Grimm, or just Grimm, are monsters inhabiting various parts of Remnant. The Grimm were originally created by the God of Darkness and their current master is Salem.

Grimm come in a variety of shapes and sizes; the latter appears to be a factor of age. Grimm are very biodiverse as different individuals may be born with less size, armor, spikes, etc. They are said to be the only creatures without souls, thus being deprived of the use of Aura, but they make up for this with strength, durability and savagery. Some Grimm even have special abilities such as possession or usage of lightning and fire. Grimm are stated to be attracted to generally negative feelings such as sadness, hostility, anger and fear, and even congregate in areas that, although Humanity has long since abandoned, still hold residual traces of these feelings. The longer a Grimm lives, the larger it becomes, with species such as the Beowolves growing from just over the size of an average man to massive behemoths that dwarf AK- 200s. Although Grimm have a more reckless and aggressive nature during their youth, older Grimm who have managed to survive their battles have the tendency to learn from their experiences. While sometimes requiring hundreds of years, the Grimm's accumulated experiences over the course of surviving their battles with man can cause them to begin exercising caution. - RWBY wiki

Spyres: Dark, massive crystalline structures which cover the vast majority of Remnant. Known to empower the Grimm, Husks, and the Malformed when in close proximity. While harmless at a distance, prolonged exposure to a Spyre will cause madness and corruption.

The Blight: Salem originally pulled her Grimm for a pool of tar-like substance that was created by the God of Darkness. As she conquered Remnant and gained strength, Salem created vast lakes of the Grimm creating substance and with time, it has found its way into the sky. The world is now in a permanent state of dark overcast with clouds of this substance the people refer to as The Blight. Mankind must wear protective gear when venturing out due to the constant black ash that falls from the skies. Occasionally, a Blight Storm will occur where it rains the corruptive substance.

When a person becomes Blighted, it is not necessarily a death sentence. It causes agonizing pain wherever it touches but it can be lived with. There is no cure for The Blight and it does not fade with time. Once Blighted, it is permanent.

After a certain level of corruption, the blighted will lose all sense of themselves and become Husks.

Husks: Former humans or Faunus that fell to the corruption of The Blight. They take on Grimm like qualities and attack any living creature on sight. However, unlike the Grimm, Husks are not soulless. While it is rare, powerful guardians who have fallen have been observed to be capable of possessing an aura and sometimes even using the semblances they once had. It is speculated that Husks still retain consciousness and has been a subject of debate in Faren on whether or not they should be killed or studied.

The Malformed: A rare occurrence when a human or faunus have become extensively blighted but have not succumb to madness. They take on Grimm like anatomy, similar to Husks, but retain their sense of self. That being said, The Malformed are very prone to fits of rage and irrationality. They are drawn towards negative emotion as the Grimm are and there has never been a reported case where a Malformed has lasted over a year in this state. Within a years time, all observed Malformed have either become Husks or died due to various circumstances. Usually fits of rage and being mistaken for a Husk.

They are shunned and hated by the general populace as their touch can blight others. There are no reported Malformed inside Faren but rumor says that they merely cover up there Grimm features and pass themselves off as a blighted human or faunus.
