  Amanda’s father was a US Navy Admiral, a Chief of Staff. He and his wife were assassinated by terrorists. The terrorists thought her brother saw something on their father’s computer. Mark removed the harddrive and destroyed it. So she and her brother were taken captive for interrogation. She was used as leverage, but her brother - only 8 at the time, never broke. Their adoptive mother rescued them before the terrorists gave up and killed them.
  
  It took years before she and her adoptive mother ever really got along as she proved to be a tough teenager to handle.

  Diane came from a large military family - or rather was adopted into one as a stepchild. By default large meant poor. After all, the government didn’t issue families. On their fixed income, while dealing with medical issues and the costs of constantly moving from base to base, life was tough. One had to learn to adapt to survive. It didn’t help that her mother was little better than trailer trash. It didn’t help that her stepbrother and stepsister into everything their father forbade - gangs, drugs. He assumed she was too.
  Last summer her stepbrother and stepsister were both killed by a rival gang. At least that was the rumor. The same gang broke into her home and killed her mother and two younger half brothers. Her father was on tour overseas at the time and never made it home.
  
  She was soon emancipated. But she also realized she needed a family, so she hunted down the Millers. She found them through their attempts to become foster parents or even adopt which was being very slow to approve. She started working for them as their IT department and had begun to turn into their Marketing Manager.
  
  See Skills / Training. Diane has made quite a fortune from her writing, to include movie deals. With that money she has invested in a couple major pieces of real estate.

  Diane abounds with creative talent. She is also a very talented hacker, though she doesn’t like to abuse her skills. She customized her own laptop and can build her own motherboard from scraps. She has a photographic memory and speed reads. Her vision is 20/10 and 20/13 (left and right eyes). She has perfect pitch. She got her GED about 2 years ago, but never told her parents. She didn’t feel ready to face the adult world - and her stepfather would have used it as an excuse to make her life more of a living hell.
