2094
Boarding of the ark ships begins. Over the last five decades, Earth's population has dropped to around one billion due to starvation, disease, toxic contamination, and criminal activities. Reproductive rates have dropped to near zero. Most of the Earth's population now lives in squalor. Although most ark ships will not depart until completely loaded (a process that takes years), survivors welcome the safe, sterile, climate controlled environments of the Ark ships after the horror Earth has become. A rich black market develops that sells positions in the boarding lottery, falsified medical certificates, and other items needed to gain quicker access to the arks.
Today
You are NOT one of those lucky enough to win the lottery. And the price of a boarding ticket is beyond your means. You are one of those who will be left behind to the horrors that await. There are rumors of bunkers. But as the Earth is beyond hope of recovery, that way seems to be a dead end. Die now; die later. What’s the difference? Yet, you struggle each day to survive. And now there is talk of martial law.
Setting
The RP is set in the American southwest, Albuquerque, NM. One of the launch sites was a little south in White Sands. On the edge of the northwest corner of the city is the Sandia Resort and Casino. The resort had since turned into a small village like some abandoned mall. It is filled with bars, brothels, living flats and such. The parking lot is filled with the husks of old RV’s, many still lived in, many abandoned. Some have become home to squatters.
While Firefly is considered a Space Opera Western, that genre does not yet really exist. Instead we have a Dystopian Apocalypse.

Plot
Pretty basic. The RP starts out in early 2094. Read the description above. “ – starvation, disease, toxic contamination, and criminal activities”; “population now lives in squalor”. Earth’s ecology has collapsed. It is becoming unlivable.
There are less than a billion people left on the planet. But at best only a few million will fit on the Arks. The selection criteria depends on medical qualifications and critical skills. And most of you won’t meet those requirements.
Bunkers? You’d have to survive in them for generations. Problem with those is a matter of resources, limited space, and finding one.
You are living on borrowed time. You are desperate. What will you do to survive? And will it be enough?
