Lady Warlock
Anime RN
It is hereby decreed from this day henceforth that the pits are a necessary addition to our civil society.
The pits will be two. The pit of slaves will by far be the more violent spectacle. They fight for glory. They fight for freedom. They fight because that is where they come from, who they are, and who they were bread to become. The pit of nobles will demonstrate our skills in combat. It is where our commanders will be drawn, our generals will be trained, our prowess in battle displayed for our enemies. Although bloodshed cannot be avoided in such a system, it will be honorable.
We are a people of terrible memory, a people with a talent of war, a people who cannot comprehend peace. As such, the pits are essential. They sate our cravings for death and slaughter, offer a side to root for, a hero to cheer for. This is not just a decree. It is a declaration of who we are. It is a notice of why we fight. It is an observation of humanity... of Inaria... of us.
Oliver Pumelle
Signed on the Name Day of our 14th generation
- Before the Decree
Many people called the Inarians savages, brutes, people destined to wipe themselves off the face of the planet long before a society was able to grow by their hands. Those onlookers were right on many counts. The people of Inaria thrived on war and war was their lifeblood. Quickly conquering many great countries and accumulating slaves driven to build their cities from the ground up. However, there are only so many people to enslave and only so many countries to conquer.
There came a time where there were no more wars to fight. The small fragile nation declared itself to be a nation. However, such a thing could not be true. The country had brought together some of the greatest warriors of the age and some of the strongest fighters the world had ever seen. However, those were not the people who could or would build a nation. Those were the people who could never comprehend peace. The soldiers, warriors, fighters... the savages that the country had accumulated were the kind of people to constantly be seeking more fights, more challengers, more ways to prove that they were the strongest, toughest, most unbeatable.
Civil war was abrupt and certain. Anything that had been built was destroyed in the wars. It seemed that every time someone turned around, there was a new person declaring themselves to be the leader of Inaria, claiming that they were the most skilled fighter of all of them. It was impossible for the country to develop in such a toxic environment of war and destruction. No one who wasn't a fighter survived for long enough to say anything about the direction the population was heading in. The war lasted generations.
Victor Pumelle was one of the longest lasting leaders the country saw amidst all the turmoil. He declared himself king; it wasn't the most exciting thing in the world because many people before him had done the exact same thing. What made him special was the fact that he survived for as long as he did. Victor Pumelle actually lasted long enough to find himself a wife and to marry. They even gave birth to a son. For the first time in ages, Inaria had a prince: Oliver Pumelle. Of course, Victor's reign did not last long enough for anything further to come of it.
However, it did bring strife to the country. For the first time since they had become a country, there was a problem with leadership. The warrior who had defeated Victor tried to make himself king. Oliver Pumelle also had a claim, though. And the boy also had an idea. From the ashes that remained of the dream of a city, the boy shouted his idea to everyone who would listen. He wrote his decree and issued it to the whole country. Naming two of the greatest warriors as Masters of the Pits, he united a country in the midst of civil war. War has been something that hasn't touched their mind ever since.
- The Current Situation
Inaria has somehow miraculously found its peace. That is, if and only if peace can be defined through endless slaughter at the hands of the Pit Masters, the ones in charge of ensuring that the pits provide their required entertainment value. Almost every child grows up attending the shows of the pits; they watch them, they pick their favorites, they aspire to be like the soldiers who win. They don't see the brutality of it, the cruelty in the existence of the pits; they just see the glory and they aspire to achieve it for themselves. That is what ultimately brings people to the noble pit in the end - the desire for glory, the endless feeling that they can fight and win. No one saw any flaws in the system and distracted by their own sense of security, no one could've predicted the turmoil that was to come.
People blame different things for the fire. Some say the guards were too busy messing around to see the invaders as they drove their troops into the capital. Some say the king conspired to let the invaders in. Some say the troops of Inaria were simply overwhelmed. Regardless of what they say, the fall of Inaria was quick and, as far as most survivors are concerned, inevitable. The defenses had been dropped before commanders had been able to assemble the fighters.
The invaders are the Valhalla led by their captain, Leonardo Van Hance. They are the people of the North, and slowly but surely they had captured all the countries surrounding them before venturing further south. Very little information about their army is readily available. No one can explain why the Valhalla have come or what they want; it isn't that the information doesn't exist, but rather the information is so well kept within the higher ranks of the Valhalla. Some feared that the Valhalla would enslave everyone. Some feared instant death. However, for the moment, it appears that they have found something slightly more amusing.
Fighters from both pits have been gathered. A Colosseum is being built. An arena is being made. It seems that two pits, eternally decreed to be kept apart for the good of the people, for the good of the country, for the good of all honor and valor, are to finally meet in an epic duel for all to witness. Will this be the end of Inaria? Will the collision of two worlds destroy the long-standing "peace" that they spent 14 generations fighting to find? Or can the country still be saved? Who better to answer this question than the gladiators themselves...
- The Slaves
The life of a slave is very similar to what you would expect it to be. Slaves are brutally trained from the point that they are able to. Many are bred for the pit specifically. Sure, there are slaves that simply do field work or who work in the houses of the nobles of Inaria. However, the most profitable kind of slave is a slave fed to the pit. They draw in the people, draw in the entry fees and draw in the fame. Ultimately, all the notoriety goes to the owner. That's how slavery has always worked. Nonetheless, for most, there is a certain joy in the adrenaline of the arena. To win is to experience the feel of freedom; to die is to gain the ultimate freedom.
The Nobles
Most nobles who fight in the pit fight there because they want to. There are many different reasons but most want to grow up to command Inaria's military or prove themselves worthy of their family name. In their past, in the wars, the leaders of the country were those most skilled in combat and that is a value the country retains to this day. One will never be viewed as strong if they lack the ability to win their own battles, at least, not by the people who were raised in Inarian values and culture. For them, the pit is a place to train, a place to learn, an educational playground.
- Hi There!
So you want to be a gladiator, huh? I must admit, the idea seemed fabulous to me and I was looking for an rp that really put the player into the arena, but that also had a story, a purpose, a reason for being. That is what sparked this whole endeavor that I have slowly but surely fallen in love with and now I am practically desperate to see it play out on the page. There are so many different turns this could take and regardless of where it goes, there will be action, there will be violence and there will be bloodshed. Is that what you are looking for? I certainly hope so.
I do have a few ground rules to set. I am going to try to be less stringent than I have in the past in regards to how I run this rp; however, I am also trying another new thing. I will not be controlling a PC. I will simply be taking on the role of a GM. Some of the basic rules are:
- Each post should be at least 7 sentences in length.
- I will be expecting proper grammar, spelling, etc.
- Everyone should be able to post at least once a week. I am hoping to move this rp along quickly and build excitement that only continues to grow.
- If posting for rps feels like a chore to you, then think really hard about whether or not you join because I will expect to see frequent activity in character.
I think that's about all I've got to say at this point although I do hope that what I have has peaked your interest and inspired you to stick around for the real thread. I hope it has inspired you to enter the pit, where you'll have to choose your weapon carefully and your friends wisely.
Edit: THE THREAD EXISTS! Go here to join the pits: Fighters of the Colosseum - Overview
- Each post should be at least 7 sentences in length.
