Hubub101
Keeper of HUZAHs
On a normal day, Axus would curse that mad doctor in his head for messing with, well, his head. On a normal day he would drag himself back to his room and stare at the ceiling, not possessing the willpower to do anything more. A normal day would pass with no repercussion on the next. Just an endless cycle of apathy, hardlight study and brainwashing. His nihilistic outlook would grow a little more, the spark of his soul would glow a little less, and he would be one more step to whatever came after this. On a normal day, Axus would not care about any of that.
Today was not a normal day.
That accursed Dr. Bracket had been putting Axus through that mental torture regularly for a few years now, but today had been the worst. Before, he would be dismissed with dried out eyes and a throbbing headache. Nothing a cup of water and a mental conversation with a telepathic friend couldn't fix. But today was all kinds of different. Instead of a headache, Axus got a taste of what it means to have a numb mind. He could see fine, but he had a hard time registering the things he saw. His body felt fine, but it took effort to recognize that simple observation. He couldn't remember a thing of what he'd been shown by that smokeaholic, but he never could and always assumed that was for the best. He couldn't even register where he was walking or if he was walking to begin with. While he barely knew it, he had one hand clutching his head and the other supporting him against the wall.
As he "walked" down the hall, he clung to the most basic ideas. After a few minutes (not that he could even feel time moving at this point), he found that he could understand the concept of friend and the concept of help. Names escaped him, methods were beyond him, but he knew friend and he knew help. If he were in his right mind, he'd know this meant he was reaching out to Hiyori for some sense of metal stability, hell some sense of anything, but for know friend and help were all he could muster, and even that exhausted him.
There was some kind of commotion up ahead. He couldn't make out most of it, but there was warmth, and loud voices. A few people shaped blurs, or at least that was as much as he could observe. In reality, he was just approaching the break room where hell had broken loose. Guards had ran past him without him noticing, but they were about to be held up by the diamond maker. A cluster of infighters surrounded the infamous pyromancer, who was about to qualify as a weapon of mass destruction if nothing was done. In this delirious state, Axus could have missed the scene entirely, having been unable to comprehend it. That was, until-
"We're going to die. Masami, we have to run"
Nine words spoken in a tone of true fear echoed through the German's warped psyche, and all at once the scene came into focus. He saw his priority in perfect clarity, a young girl with cat ears and a twin. He saw the threat, an emotional fire-shooter with no containment and a bad direction to be facing. He saw the whole scene, and how he could work around it. It was as if he had been in free fall through thick clouds and had finally hit the ground, and hit the ground running.
With no time to think, he rushed forward with vigor he hadn't felt in years. He passed in-between two guards who where about to engage Juzo, much to their misfortune. Once he cleared them, he reached out and grabbed the chair positioned beside the doorway. He presumed it was where Sakiko sat and kept watch, but since she was on the ground her chair would make a valuable resource. He continued his mad dash across the room, folding the metal chair as he moved into its condensed form. Nearing his target, he leapt over the crumbled form of Kaiyoto while focussing his will into the folding chair in his arms. He used his landing to position his feet in a wide stance as he raised the chair. He had positioned himself directly in between Kasai and the twins, with his body facing the pyromancer. With one final motion he positioned the chair, having been augmented by solidified light to function and fit on his arm similarly to a roman shield, in front of himself to block any incoming loose flames and protect the voice he had heard. Why he did this was a question he was too focused to ask. All he knew is that for the first time in seven years adrenaline surged through his being, his mind was free of doubt, he felt alive.
No, not a normal day at all.
