    overview.

    O
ver 300 years ago, the Salem Witch Trials took place in colonial Massachusetts between early 1692 and mid-1693. The Trials were started by Governor William Phips, who held a series of hearings and prosecutions in which more than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraftโ€”"the devil's magic"โ€”and 20 of those people were executed by hanging. Even though the governor thought he was doing something good and actually believed he was ridding Massachusetts of witchcraft practitioners, he was only half right. See, those accused and executed people were innocent. They had no magic and did not worship the devil. The real witches and warlocks were cunning and careful not to be caught. And they made the choice to leave Massachusetts after witnessing innocents being wrongfully executed for no reason. They got the hell out of Dodge, fled as far south as they could, and that's how New Orleans eventually became the new Salem.

The witches and warlocks of Salem settled in New Orleans and hid their powers and abilities from the public eye to ensure they wouldn't have to flee again. Over the next few years, the Salem Coven procreated and had children of their own that were born with extraordinary powers and abilities. The Salem bloodline continued for many, many generations, and a lot of the witches and warlocks left New Orleans not only to inhabit other states but also other countries such as Mexico, Haiti, and Saudi Arabia.

Miss Robichaux's Academy for Gifted Individuals was built in 1790 as a private school for privileged girls and boys but was turned into a military hospital during the Civil War. In 1868, Helena Dorrance, the reigning Supreme at that time, the most powerful witch of the generation, and a prominent socialite back then, reclaimed the building and reinstated it as a school as a cover-up, but in reality, she turned it into a safe haven for young witches and warlocks to learn and hone their powers.

Fast forward to the 21st century, and there are only a couple hundred witches and warlocks left in the world, as a lot of them died off and many chose not to reproduce. Only a handful of young witches and warlocks attend The Academy, and now those young adults are facing challenges that could possibly wipe out the rest of them. Covens across the world have been attacked by various creatures, such as The Afflicted, humans that carry an ancient blood virus that gives them the supernatural characteristics of a vampire. There are also The Pale and The Feral, who are both flesh-eating, bloodthirsty creatures who have no control over themselves and kill whoever they please. But the greatest threat to the Salem Coven is the recent spike in cases of witches and warlocks being executed by Witch Hunters. As Covens around the world go down one by one, with the Salem Coven being next on the list, will these Salem Descendants have what it takes to defend themselves and their bloodline, or will it all come to an end?
