as the magnet train slowed to a stop, red was just releasing his grip on a pole for balance when he felt his pocket vibrate. Adjusting his earpiece, he tuned into the call. “Red, it’s Lance.”

“Yeah.”

“How was Azalea?”

“Confirmed Bugsy is still running the gym, he doesn’t seem to have a clue about anything going on.”

“Hmm... I wonder if they’re surpassing small cities, if they skipped Azalea I wonder if they’re — “

“In Goldenrod? I’m already here, stepping off the train now.” Answered the Kanto native, who adjusted his cap forward facing so the bill of his symbolic hat covered his eyes just a bit.

“Good. Go visit Whitney, make sure she’s okay,” The dragon tamer requested. “I’m going to be notifying my sister to keep an eye on the league while I’m gone.”

Red was listening intently as he stood in the dispersing crowd of others leaving the train, when a small frame bumped into him and made an irate series of grumbles not entirely to herself. “Plenty of benches around, ‘guy, would it kill you to not be a human obstacle?”

He peered over his shoulder at the brunette in question, but that was all he could see of her as she turned with annoyance and left in the opposite direction.

“...Everything okay? Who was that?”

“Just some girl,” red let her remake slide off like water on a poliwags back, before he began to proceed forward off the train station premises and down towards the hulk of the city.

”honestly, some people...” murmured the girl, who hurried down from the stations platforms out into the busy streets of goldenrod. She tactfully kept just in between the street and the sidewalk to avoid unnecessary bumping around. Distantly, the broadcasts of the radio tower rode on the wavelengths in the air, currently it was Mary talking about her own personal stories which interested elsie much less than Samuel Oaks official talk show, hitch she listening to every time it aired during the weeks. She found it more informative.

“Department store, or challenge Whitney?” She pondered to herself, coming to a corner on the streets that faced the towering shopping center which was very busy as expected. A few blocks away would be the gym known for its “cute normal type” and elsie wasn’t exactly in a hurry to be surrounded by so much pink and perfume. “I could spend money, or I could earn money,” she told herself, and then cocked her head back with a sigh. “Earning it is.”

And the skinny saucy girl made an abrupt turn, and started towards the gym. She considered her team, versus Whitney’s — trainers never knew for sure what the gym leaders party would be, or what they would do. She had to consider the unexpected, but didn’t have a lot of experience to know what that would be. “I’ll save scyther for last, as usual,” Elsie murmured, but then that pegged the question of kabuto or larvitar going first.

Goldenrod was certainly one of the more interesting towns within the Johto region. It was large and always had people out and about among the streets. It often matched the pace that Gold had enjoyed speaking that he was more of a social guy himself. Today was really not much different than the others in those terms. Gold was always quick moving and most definitely usually had something to do around the busy town.

Since Gold had been mostly busy throughout the day, he had previously decided to spend some time at the Goldenrod Game Corner. Gambling had been a favorite past time for the raven haired male so, why not spend time and unwind doing what he loved? Well, either way, Gold could proudly say that most of the rounds came out in success. This was mostly due to his rather questionable methods. To put it simply, he cheated. He left the Game Corner wearing a giant grin over his features. He quickly pondered what to do next while he was still in town.

He already visited the Daycare today so, that was off the list. What about the Department Store? No. What would he even need from there? He shook it off, rolling his eyes. Oh! Golden eyes glanced over to the gym. He could visit Whitney. Gold had spoken to Whitney a few times before due to previous mishaps that took place in Johto, and due to their shared interest in the PokeAthlon. It might be interesting to see how she's been these days speaking that she is a gym leader after all. It might keep him from being bored as well. So, off he went towards the gym.

Aurora's case was quite different. Despite living in the neighboring town, Ecruteak, she never really visited Goldenrod unless it was for the Department Store. Even then she was often too busy to even go there compared to the simple, smaller stores in whatever town she was currently doing research in. Though, you'd be bound to hit Goldenrod if you're doing the gym challenge. She opened up her bag and quickly fumbled inside of it for a moment before taking out what seemed to be a small notepad and a pencil.

She quickly jotted down the basic information about the Goldenrod Gym. Whitney was the current gym leader of Goldenrod, working best with normal type. Sadly she didn't have any fighting type pokemon on her but her rather small and odd team should do for right now. Upon finishing the small proportion of notes she moved on to flipping through the pages and skimming minor parts of the small notebook. After a moment of doing so Aurora tucked away the notebook back into the pocket of the bag and continued onward to Whitney's gym.

It took Aurora longer than she thought to arrive at the gym. This was simply due to her avoiding daily things one could deem as superstitions. Either way, she made it. She stopped outside to take in the building's design and features. One good thing about Goldenrod would have to be the designs among the city and overall aesthetic. She quickly noted this before looking through her pokeballs. The three pokeballs were still in check and at the very least looked to be in good condition and ready for battle. Aurora smiled to herself at the sight of this. Things were looking to be pretty good! After making sure things were ready and set, she made her way inside the gym's building.

Whitney. She was as saucy as she was sensitive, some would say a bit under emotionally developed to be a proper league leader but, she managed to hold her own with a rather simple small gym team, and that was enough to earn Red's respect. He tanked the receptionist for opening the door to greet him, and was instantly greeted with an expansive room with a very feminine "cute" theme that had hardly changed in the last few years. Some would say she wanted to give the element surprise with a hard battle but a soft environment, but it was truly just her personality reflected in the scenery. Not his taste, but he would only be here to scope things out, and as he turned his cap to the back so his bill was reversed, he silently hoped everything was as it should have been. As he stepped in, three individual trainers seemed to make their ways inside, but he was far enough ahead that he had yet to notice any new comers. The gym leader's assigned trainers were here, spotted through out the gym, but they rotated often so he would not be able to tell if they were the usual attendees or out of place.

the young female paid less attention to the gyms environment and more to her own team, still undecided even up to the moment of coming in and requested to battle the leader as to what team she would be using for this. Normal types were harder to plan for, they weren't particularly unique or useful, but always seemed to have a signature move that knocked someone off their confidence boost. as she passed the receptionist desk she was suddenly stopped, and told that the challenge would not be a typical one on one. Two other trainers came through the door with the same intentions of a battle request, and the three strangers were notified they would be engaging in a triple battle, as per a new experimental policy.

"That's... new. Is this... just happening, or?" Elsie inquired, quite confused.

"Per orders of the league," said the unknown lady at the desk, who gave the three of them a blank look before returning to her own work.

Elsie looked to the male and female who had also entered the gym, giving them both a shrug before offering her own words, "Three versus three.. not conventional but, we can make it work?" She asked the two, still feeling quite confused herself but, rules were rules. She simply hadn't known the league to be policy changers, especially over night --- these rules had been in place since before Elsie was born, so she found it odd to change. In her hand formed an enlarged poke ball, to which she gave a small kiss, and then turned on her heel as if she herself was ready for the battle.

Well, that was certainly new. The league must've been trying to spice things up it seemed. It didn't really matter either way. Gold nodded his head and placed his hands on his hips, giving a rather confident grin. "We got this in the bag! Three versus three seems something fun to try." He rummaged through his pokeballs before making a quick decision and pulling a pokeball out. The pokeball belonged to the current Quilava, Exbo. He got his infamous pool stick ready for the battle coming to take place.

Albeit, he had to admit this was strange. He never really heard of this being a thing and he's usually all over town! Maybe he just wasn't paying attention. A lot of things usually went over the raven boy's head. On the other hand at least this would keep him from being bored. That enough was reason for him to just relax and enjoy his time with the other two trainers. He shrugged off any hanging questions that he had. While waiting for the battle to begin, he enlarged his pokeball as well before simply twirling it in his hand.

"I guess it is?" Aurora tilted her head and returned the glance between the other two trainers. Confused, she scratched her head. She hadn't heard of this before either. Then again, she wasn't really experienced in the battling department. So this just might be her not quite being up to date on what gyms are doing these days. She wondered if it was like this at other gyms too. She'll get to see soon enough. She enlarged her pokeball as well and glanced around the cutesy gym.

A sigh escaped her as a small smile escaped her. This should be an experience. She ran a thumb over the pokeball and noted the nearby trainers that often trained under Whitney. She quickly got ready to move forward when the time would come for them to engage in the three versus three battle. A small hum left Aurora as she watched the two prepare as well. After a moment she decided to speak up and check in with the other two. "Are we ready, then?" She took a minute to adjust her bag's strap and offered a grin.
