Birdsie

The God-Emperor of Mankind

Introduction
Hello! I'm Birdsie and I've been reading up on a web serial called "Worm," by John McCrae, a.k.a. wildbow.

Highly inspired by this work, I've decided to start a Superhero Roleplay with a similar premise. If you're looking for action, adventure, comedy, tragedy, everything in between and beyond, as well as epic fucking fights with world-ending entities, you've come to the right place!
History
No one knows when, but for as long as historical records reach, there was always that one person that could teleport, or that one guy who had the ability to press six tons of weight.

During the Cold War, the frequency of the appearances of these "super-men" increased. In the late 1970s, the number of the newly classified "parahumans" exploded. In 1983, the Parahuman Response Team (PRT) was created to deal with the danger imposed by the rapidly rising count of superpowered humans. In 1985, the Protectorate was established; parahuman heroes who followed the PRT's leadership to help deal with the threat presented by those like them who did not use their powers for the good of the general public: villains.

But villains were just another side of the same coin as the heroes.

The Endbringers came, and with them, came the ashes of their wrath.
The Endbringers
The First Endbringer Attack took place on 1992-12-13, in Marun Field, Iran. A date that people would remember. That day, Behemoth, the first Endbringer made his appearance. He destroyed and sowed terror for almost two days until the PRT appeared, assessed the threat, and finally defeated him. Behemoth fled and went into dormancy, preparing for his next attack.

Only after, were the Endbringers properly classified as a whole "category" of beings, different from ordinary parahumans. They appeared interchangeably in various places around the world; mostly highly populated cities, and destroyed until they were injured and forced to retreat and regenerate.

Each Endbringer is different, and none was destroyed to this day. Whenever an Endbringer Alert is raised, the villains and heroes of a city that is being attacked unite together in a truce, during which no hero will try to arrest villains, and during which no villain will try to profit from their power. The appearance of an Endbringer is such a threat that all humans, regardless of background, stand together and fight against a common enemy.

This raised many questions. Who or what are the Endbringers? Where did they come from? Why do they want to destroy us?

Endbringers typically attack up to ten times every year, but the frequency of the attacks has increased since Behemoth's first appearance. The Endbringers typically act on their own, except for Tohu and Bohu who appear in tandem. The reasons for this are unknown.

The Endbringers appeared in 1992, 1996, 2002, 2007, and 2012. The time it takes for a new Endbringer to appear is speculated to be between 4 to 6 years, so it is widely believed that 2018 will be the year that a new Endbringer makes their first appearance with all the horror that may follow.

The Endbringers

Behemoth
Behemoth — also known as "Hadhayosh" and "Prathama" — first appeared on December 13, 1992, in Marun Field, Iran. It has the ability to manipulate multiple forms of energy (electrical, thermal, kinetic, and etc.)

Behemoth is over forty-five feet tall. He has gray, leathery skin topped with cooled magma and obsidian-like crags, some of which can even reach 10 feet in length. His body is described as a muscle-bound caricature midway between a human and a bear. Behemoth's hands are merely mangled growths of obsidian-looking material and his arms are as thick as oak trees. In a gap between two of the horns, he has a single red, glowing eye. His mouth is a jagged gap, lined by obsidian teeth with a deep glowing coming from the throat. The outer layer of his skin is almost as hard as diamond and it gets over five times as hard the deeper you go.
Leviathan
Leviathan — also known as "Jormungand" or "Jörmungandr" — first appeared on June 9, 1996, in Oslo, Norway. It has macro-hydrokinesis, speed, and a water "afterimage" that follows behind it and moves as fast as Leviathan is.

Leviathan is thirty feet tall with a seemingly disproportionate body and scaly green skin. He has a top-heavy appearance due to his hunched shoulders and the large cords of muscles standing out on his neck, upper torso, and shoulders. The top-heavy appearance is only strengthened by his much thinner forearms and calves, topped off with massive claws and digitigrade feet. At the rear end of his body is a prehensile whip-like tail around 40-50 feet long. Although not as durable as Behemoth, he is much faster.
Simiurgh
The Simurgh — also known as "Ziz" — appeared on December 30, 2002, in Lausanne, Switzerland. It has psionic abilities, precognition, and the ability to draw on mental powers around it and copy them. The Simurgh is known to adjust the events in places it attacks, being much more "cunning" than the other Endbringers.

The Simurgh appears as a fifteen-foot tall woman, waif-thin and unclothed. Her hair is almost as long as she is tall and is, like the rest of her form, platinum-white. She has a variety of asymmetrically and apparently randomly placed feather wings, which appear excessively large compared to her body and three of which cover her body, ostensibly to preserve modesty.
Khonsu
Khonsu appeared in May 21, 2007. It did not appear in any "one" place but rather attacked various cities around the world at the same time by going from one to another interchangeably. He has time manipulating abilities, including the creation of time bubbles that he uses to kill his foes by speeding up time within them and causing them to die of old age, or heal himself. He also has teleportation abilities that he uses during each of his appearances; after first attacking Yokohama, Japan, he teleported to Cape Verde all the way in Africa, and then Rome, Italy, where he was finally forced to retreat.

He stands at forty feet tall. He is broad and feral in appearance. He is as jet-black, with something white or silver giving definition around the edges of his various features. His face is a permanent snarl, frozen in place, his teeth silvery white behind the ebony lips. Tendrils like the whiskers of a catfish mark the corners of his mouth. He doesn’t wear clothes, but he has features somewhere between leaves and fins, with elaborate designs at the edges, curling away from elbows, his wrist, his fingers and around his legs. It makes his fingers and toes resemble claws, and leaves dangerous looking blades elsewhere. His midriff is composed of a large, dark gray sphere that looks kind of like a pearl. His body is noted to not be quite as durable as that of the other Endbringers.
Tohu and Bohu
A pair of Endbringers who often work together, Tohu and Bohu appeared on October 10, 2012, in Bucharest, Romania. Bohu manipulates the battlefield - setting up traps for parahumans and manipulates the area in a set pattern, including the creation of defences, walls, deadfalls, pitfalls, traps, and even minions. Tohu chooses three parahumans in the area of several kilometers and then copies their powers to defend its "sister" Bohu.

Tohu takes the appearance of a three-faced young woman. She has two torsos and four arms (ending in long, clawed hands) but only one pair of legs. Her whole body except for the faces is made out of what appears to be colored hair, growing from her three heads and woven into ribbons and cords. Her faces and hands adopt the costume of the three capes she copies, twisted to fit her appearance. Her "hair" also changes to match the color scheme of the head it grows from, resulting in flesh streaked and intermingled with the colors of the costumes. She is the smallest Endbringer by height and size, with the possible exception of Bohu when not engorged.

Bohu is gaunt and stretched thin to the point where her head is five times longer than it is wide. Her body widens as it reaches the ground, reaching into it, extending roots and melding into the landscape. Her narrow eyes glow brightly, even through thick cloud cover. Her hair is heavy as stone, in tendrils as thick around as a human arm. Her face is expressionless, but on one occasion she was seen to shut her eyes and bow her head. Her tower-body is comprised of material drawn from the landscape. Bohu has no legs and is largely immobile in her tower form. On one occasion, Bohu moved with a grinding advance that left bulldozed terrain in her wake, like a gigantic block of stone. Overlapping rings marked the area she traveled through, as she continued to switch through her cycles, altering the terrain, raising walls, creating traps and deadfalls, and generating architecture.
Parahumans and Powers
Parahumans are people who went through a Trigger Event and gained a power from their Shard. A common slang for parahuman is "cape," even though not all parahumans wear capes.

Parahuman Response Team
The Parahuman Response Team is a police and/or emergency response team trained to deal with parahumans and the fallout of their actions. The PRT emblem is shaped like a shield and bears the letters ‘P.R.T.' It is often depicted with wings. The PRT is overseen as a whole by the Chief Director and Deputy Chief Director while Directors and Deputy Directors oversee individual PRT departments spanning cities or rural areas.

PRT officers wear chain mesh and kevlar vests, and helmets that cover their faces. They carry firearms - both pistols and assault rifles. These are usually loaded with nonlethal rounds unless targeting individuals who are considered expendable or capable of surviving. In addition, specific individuals can carry a variety of specialized equipment. The PRT officers can carry grenade launchers that carry specialized load outs, including containment foam and tinker-made rounds.

Containment Foam is the PRT's most common non-lethal response to threats. PRT officers are usually equipped with tinker-made containment foam applicators, mounted on the backs of the officer and dispensed on the target with spray applicators. It sprays as a liquid, then expands into a foam. The foam is flexible and porous, allowing people to breathe while fully entrenched in it, and is extremely sticky. It's impact resistant, so heavy hitters can be contained. It's resistant to high temperatures and insulates against electricity. It is also resistant to low temperatures. Even flecks of foam expand into masses the size of golf balls and softballs. Attempting to wipe it off exposes more to the air, making it expand still further. Foam degrades over time eventually. This can be expedited with a specialized solvent.

The PRT typically uses large vans for transportation, these are usually marked with purple stripes diagonally across the side, the initialization of the organization stenciled on the side, their emergency lights are green and white. This distinguishes them from lights used by emergency services.

The PRT has a department referred to as the Protectorate, made up of parahumans whose identities are kept secret. The typical "superheroes" you see in movies or read about in comics.

Trigger Events
Trigger Events also known as "Crisis Points" or simply Triggers, are traumatic events that grant an individual their powers.
The trigger event is usually a very traumatic experience. An individual needs to be pushed to the edge, their fight or flight responses pushed to their limits, before the powers start to emerge. The circumstances leading up to the trigger event influence the power granted. Psychological stress often leads to mentally driven powers. The more physical violence that is involved, the higher the bias towards physically driven powers.

If one individual in a family has powers, it is far more likely that others will as well. Powers can be "inherited" from siblings or adopted parents, but it's very rare for them to pass "upward" from child to parent. People who have parents with powers don’t need nearly as intense an event to make their powers manifest. Second-generation capes gain powers influenced by both the powers of those related to them and their trigger event.

It's possible for a parahuman to experience a second trigger event, that removes limits to their abilities, or enhances or evolves some secondary aspect of their power. To experience a second trigger, a parahuman has to experience a situation highly similar to their original trigger. Second triggers generally do more harm than good due to the level of trauma involved. It is also possible to have a Third, Fourth or Fifth Trigger, but this often results in grotesque mental or even physical impairment.

There is a rare type of Trigger Event that is called a Birth Trigger. The circumstances in which it occurs are unknown, but it basically means that a person is born as a parahuman, rather than gaining their powers later in life. These capes, on average, have stronger powers, a lower risk of mental impairment from using their powers, more stable relationship with their shard, but also have a higher case of becoming a Case 53.

Case 53s also known as "aberrations" are parahumans that were physically mutated by their Trigger Events. Roughly 6% of parahumans are Case 53s, and 62% of those are Birth Triggers.

Many capes suffer from a limitation known as the Manton Effect; where their shard tries to protect them from the effects of their own powers but fails to register other people as "other" people, therefore causing their powers to weaken or outright not work when used on humans. The Manton Effect is usually removed during a Second Trigger.

The Entities
(GM Note: This isn't common knowledge.) The true reason behind superpowers are undetectable, multi-dimensional alien entities in the orbit of the Earth. They send down shards of their own beings into the Earth and these shards seek out distressed individuals and adjust to their situation, granting them the power to overcome their situation. Certain shards can affect the personality of the host. During a Second Trigger, the shards can seek feedback and adjust the host's power, granting it more precision, strength, or overall potency to make up for the newly encountered threat. Shards can sometimes interact with a host and mutate them.

Power Classifications
The PRT categorizes powers into select classes and number ratings, used to quickly identify parahuman threats and adopt fitting strategies.

Mover: Has a power enhancing mobility.
Shaker: Has a power with an area of effect.
Brute: Has enhanced strength or durability.
Breaker: Can shift into another state.
Master: Can control others or create minions.
Tinker: Can create or alter devices with futuristic technology.
Blaster: Is a ranged, offensive threat.
Thinker: Focuses on information gathering.
Striker: Has a power that is melee-ranged or touch-base.
Changer: Can alter their form or appearance.
Trump: Can manipulate powers in some capacity.
Stranger: Focuses on stealth or infiltration.

It is possible for someone to have powers so weird and exotic that they don't fit into any classification. In that case, an "Other" classification is adequate.

The classifications are followed by a number from 1 to 10 that is meant to display the danger and strength of the power in question.
1-3 are threats that can be dealt with by a squad of trained, non-parahuman PRT operatives, but the circumstances or environment may dip the likelihood of success in another direction.
4-7 are threat levels that typically require another parahuman (possibly with a team of PRT officers as backup) to deal with.
8-10 are threats that require a powerful parahuman or team of parahumans to deal with.
10+ threats (also called S-Class) are ones that display amazing and exceedingly rare power levels. Generally, only a multiple-trigger parahuman will achieve this level, but Endbringers are also within this realm.

Example Classifications:
Mover 3: The ability to fly at speeds of at least forty kilometers per hour.
Shaker 2: Can cover an area of twenty meters squared in thick mist.
Brute 6: The ability to regenerate from wounds significantly more quickly than normal. A stab wound is entirely gone in ten minutes.
Breaker 5: Can turn into a humanoid form made out of solid iron.
Master 9: The ability to hypnotize up to several people at once through eye contact and maintain control over long distances.
Tinker 6: Specializes in technology related to radiation. Can turn a microwave into a gun that can cause third and fourth-degree burns.
Blaster 4: Shoots lasers about as strong as a bullet from a rifle.
Thinker 4: Can see up to five seconds into the future.
Striker 3: Upon making skin contact, can kill any organic material.
Changer 1: Produces scythe blades on forearms.
Trump 2: Can decrease the strength of other parahumans' powers up to roughly 95%.
Stranger 5: Visual detection can become impossible at will.

Behemoth, for an instance, is classified as Brute 10+, Blaster/Shaker 10+.

Baumann Parahuman Containment Center
The Baumann Parahuman Containment Center, better known as the Birdcage, is a prison for parahumans that have committed crimes severe enough that they must be removed from society. It is not designed to allow prisoners to leave after they have been imprisoned within it, as prisoners need to be teleported in, there are no ways in or out of the prison.

The Birdcage is inside a hollowed out mountain whose walls are lined with tinker-made ceramics, each layer of the mountain contains dormant containment foam, which will automatically start expanding upon a wall breach. Inside the mountain is a vacuum, and three thousand anti-gravity drones, which will detonate upon an abnormality. Some of them contain containment foam and some are much more lethal. The prison itself is suspended inside the mountain by the same pipes that supply it with its supplies (such as books, blankets, cigarettes, food, water and air, and other objects), it is also split up into wings, the walls between which are negligible, allowing all the prisoners to intermingle. In case of emergency, the Birdcage has three-hundred prison drones equipped with scanners, automated weaponry, containment foam sprayers, and other weaponry.

In 2001, Behemoth attacked the Birdcage and made it through the outer defenses and got in. Upon entry, he killed twelve inmates, after which the inner auto-defense system activated and sprayed him in containment foam. After that, he managed to kill fifty-eight more inmates, destroy ninety-three automated prison drones and caused the collapse of an entire prison block. After that, he was forced to flee by a coordinated inmate attack.

Brockton Bay
A city in Massachusetts, USA. Brockton Bay is located in the northeast of the United States, south of Boston. The Atlantic Ocean borders it on the east, while mountains or hills border it on the other sides, especially to the west. In recent years it became a hotspot of parahuman activity, to the point of getting the PRT classification: "HOSV," which stands for High Occurrence of Super-Villains (or Hive of Scum and Villainy.) Brockton Bay has a civilian population of around three hundred and sixty thousand and is in the Top 10 US cities in terms of cape population.

Being a coastal city along with its surrounding geography, Brockton Bay has a fairly mild climate. The summers are comfortably warm and the winters are one of the mildest in the Northeastern States. This may be one reason people in costume congregate here.

Main Areas

PRT Headquarters
PHQ is a base of operations that the squadron of local superheroes call home, placed on a repurposed oil rig. It is outfitted with a forcefield bubble and a missile defense system. It is visible from pretty much any point on the Docks. The forcefield makes everything seen through it look oversaturated, like a TV with bad picture settings. The structure is a marvel of architectural design with its arches and spires, lit by tinted spotlights and set on a beautiful platform with hard edges and sweeping lines. A forcefield roadway is used when traveling to and from the base

Suburbs
In the center and west of Brockton Bay are the suburbs. They are relatively safe and well-kept, with some convenience and grocery stores, and mostly housing districts. There is a notably low amount of gang activity in the area, but burglars and even muggers are still a common issue. The suburbs generally have one-family houses, from one to three stories high, with parks, public places, and memorials to the southern sectors, bordering with downtown.

Downtown
Downtown is one of the nicer areas of Brockton Bay, in the southern and southeastern regions of the city. The streets and sidewalks are wide, and there are skyscrapers in every other lot. The south-east part of downtown is housing. It is relatively friendly and accommodating, although there are some gang tags and broken windows here and there. It is a clashing mix of old and new buildings. Lord Street was the main road that ran through the city and downtown, tracing the line of the bay.

Boardwalk
The Boardwalk running north-to-south along the beach. The Boardwalk is "where the tourists come". It is one of the nicest parts of town. There are shops that sold dresses for over a thousand dollars, cafes with ludicrously expensive coffees and stretches of wooden walkways and beaches where tourists can get a great view of the ocean. Although it is near some rough neighborhoods, it has private security that takes a draconian approach to enforcement, leading to an absence of crime, but making it a hostile environment for anybody who doesn't look sufficiently high-class to be a legitimate visitor or shopper there.

Docks
To the east and north of the Boardwalk are the docks. Just moving from one block to the next, you can see the quality of buildings decline steeply. Grass and weeds grew between slats on the sidewalk, the road has potholes you could hide a cat in, and the buildings are all faded, consisting of peeling paint, cracked mortar and rusty metal. The desaturated colors of the buildings are contrasted by splashes of vividly colored graffiti. The similarly-colored buildings tend to blend together, and the piles of trash shifted locations, which made it difficult to find your way. Many buildings here don't have power. There are cramped tenements located in the Docks, with ten or twelve families sharing a single bathroom and shower.

There are enough warehouses and apartments in the area for even the most destitute to find shelter. The only people on the streets at night are unconscious drunks, strumpets, and gang members. During the day, there are homeless people visible, but also many people who looked surprisingly normal. Because of the homelessness and vagrants, it is considered advisable to avoid the area.

POWERLINE

Silence. Utter silence ruled the atmosphere of the power plant. Nothing could be heard except the occasional chatter of the security guards over the radio.

There were exactly three of them. Two patrolling and one operating the cameras, all equipped with a uniform, a tazergun and a lightweight armored vest.

One of them reached for his radio and took it out, when…a figure approaches from behind him.

Helloooo~!” The girl exclaimed, waving at him. The guard turned around all of a sudden and saw the figure’s orange glowing mask. He was petrified for a second, but then he pulled out his tazergun and pointed it at her.

Don’t make a move or I’ll taze you!” He exclaimed, aiming at her center of mass. He was shaking lightly.

She giggled and raised her hands in the air, “Oh no! Don’t do it! It’ll hurt really badly if you do!” She started fake crying, approaching very slowly…step after step.

The guard took a large step backward, “Take another step and I’ll put you down!” He exclaimed once more. The girl laughed…and took a very big step towards him.

He emitted a scared whimper and pressed the trigger, shooting two cables into her body and unloading a 20,000 MW charge in her. She moaned out and giggled.

Thanks for the shot!” She lunged at him and slammed her open hand on his face, unloading an orange-colored electric shock into his head, frying his brain and nervous system, followed by a rather intense spasm of the guard’s body.

The figure takes a step back, letting the body of the dead sentry fall limp to the ground; his face was scorched and smoke was still coming out of his burn mark. The villainous girl destroyed the radio with her foot and then disappeared again into the shadows.

Fast forward twenty minutes and all of the guards were killed with the same modus operandi.

Powerline finally reaches the main room. There is a huge capacitator in the middle of the room, connected to roughly 50 wide and heavy-looking cables.

Hehehe!” The figure giggled in an enthusiastic tone. “I waited all day for this!” She ran over to it and took a deep breath, then…

She wrapped her hands around the two metal rods on the capacitator and all the lights in the power plant started flickering. She bit her lip under the mask and laughed out loud as she kept “feeding”. Crimson sparks and lightning started bolting out of the capacitator, only to get absorbed by the woman’s body mere milliseconds after. She laughed, twitched intensely and wailed as she kept absorbing all the electricity that she could.

One after one, the lights and electrical devices connected to the power grid in a 100-block wide radius turned off rather quickly.

She took a few, staggering steps backward and giggled. A few sparks bolted out of her body and into nearby metal objects, but then they stopped.

W-Wo-WOAH! This feels amazing~!” She exclaimed enthusiastically, hopping up and down a couple of times. She left the main room and started exploring the houses nearby the power plant.

Police sirens were heard approaching the power plant. Some were already on the scene, but all officers remained outside, waiting with their guns out.

The girl was in a room with 25 people, all tied up to various metal objects in the capacitator room, frantically walking back and forth.

If you like your brain as something that isn’t pudding, I suggest you start screaming in terror! COME ON! SCREAM!” She shouted at them. There were a couple of seconds of hesitation, but after that the hostages began to yell in pure, agonizing fear.

The police officers were outside, setting up a perimeter with emergency generators and floodlights. They were waiting…but for what?

WARNING: Post contains shitty techno-babble that might not even be true because I don't have a degree in physics. Regardless, if you aren't interested, just skip to the part with the three stars.

Doctor Menlo

With earphones blasting at full volume, Menlo continued working on his newest piece of equipment near his workbench. The acetylene torch screamed with fire as he melded together two pads of metal almost seamlessly, finally done with the outer frame of his latest upcoming Tinker invention. The Electrostatic Reinforcement Device (ERD) would cause a revolution... maybe. The device worked by tightening molecular bonds of a select area with a filter.

One, iPhone sized attachment to your suit would make your skin hard enough that a knife would bend on impact. But that was the future, unfortunately. High-power semiconductor devices without thermal grease application get fried quickly and evenly, and finding a good heat sink ain't easy. What we're talking about here would require a city district worth of power to run, so he'd either have to import or find a Tinker whose specialty was temperature-lowering devices. Another issue was finding a proper battery - this one was easier to solve - Doctor Menlo's specialty was electricity, so with enough time he could cook up some kind of space-folded power source. A battery the size of the one of your pilot that produced enough voltage to power all of his equipment was in the realm of possibility.

No, there was something else that he was interested in. Namely, free energy, non-thermal. Perpetual motion machines, by nature, violate the first and second laws of thermodynamics. Gravity, air friction, action vs. reaction. Entropy in an isolated system can never decrease over time.

But what they were dealing with here was superpowers. Who said anything about obeying the fucking laws of physics when costumed freaks blast other costumed freaks with charged photons on a daily basis?

Even the Brutes don't make sense. When a Brute holds a heavy object, that means the entire mass of that object is combined with the Brute's own. Now, you may ask, what of it?

That of it, that the average Brute would sink into the ground, literally, when holding something of weight above roughly one and a half ton. But they don't. And there are more gruesome examples of physics-defying athletics than lifting a car.

Doctor Menlo realized his train of thought derailed and went off into physics; an area he had less experience in, and he was probably wrong in some way.

So, free energy.

It's possible, probably. And Alan wanted it. Zero-point energy would also be acceptable, but Alan had even less of an idea in quantum mechanics than he did in theoretical physics. Sighing, he put away his screwdriver when he felt his phone ringing. He took out his earphones and pressed the green dial.

"PRT emergency," the dispatcher spoke. Doctor Menlo slid his goggles onto his forehead and paused, listening. "Powerline took a powerplant with the purpose of refueling herself. She has taken approximately twenty-five hostages."

Doctor Menlo pressed the button on the service phone. "Doctor Menlo here, I'm all over it, but send in some reinforcements if you will, over."

"10-4, Doctor. Two PRT squads are enroute 10-20."

Damn. He forgot what 10-20 meant again. He really needed to check up on the scanner codes. "In English, please?"

A moment of silence. "Two PRT squads arriving at location."

"Roger, roger," Menlo said then tapped off. He reached for his bag to change into his costume.

***
Approx. 4 minutes later.

Two PRT vans were outside, their white-green lights blazing and warning of their presence. From the back of each van, a team of six squaddies and a sergeant dropped off. Four squaddies for each team were armed with rifles loaded with non-lethal rounds, whilst two had containment foam sprayers. They made a joint blockade around the premises with the police and prepared to move in at command.

Doctor Menlo whistled, as he played around with his gauntlets. Sergeant Kelsey approached him. "Son, can I ask what the hell you're doing?"

Alan looked up. "Redirecting all power to the magnetic manipulator. Frankly, I can't lightning her into submission. She kind of eats lightning." He looked back at his gauntlet and turned one dial to the right, then back to the left, and right again, trying to find the precise spot he wanted it to be in.

"So I've noticed," Kelsey answered rigidly. At the stern blandness the officer displayed, Alan almost felt himself crumble, but he wouldn't let his carefree attitude die so easily. "Any idea when we're moving in?"

"When I get my backup."

"We are your backup."

"And the deranged sith lord inside of that powerplant has hostages. I can deal with her. We've had run-ins before, but she's mostly immune to my power. I need help."

"You had run-ins with her?"

"Do you ever read the newspaper?" Doctor Menlo paused, trying not to smirk and laugh as he uttered the next sentence: "There's a spark between us." He was finally done with his buttons and dials.

Kelsey frowned. "So you need a distraction?"

"Why, no, good sergeant!" Menlo faced him and patted him on the shoulder as he walked past him. "I'm the distraction."

Menlo walked out from behind the van and to the middle of the road in front of the powerplant. He was handed a megaphone and he yelled into it: "Come out with your hands in the air and with your dark side force power doodoo turned off! Unless you want to skip to the part where you give us demands!" He shrugged, quirking his eyebrows casually. "That's fine too!"

In the back, Sergeant Kelsey facepalmed.

Mage
sounds like someone opened a gate to hell

(Sorry. I won't be able to do a first post as good as the rest of y'all. Hope you don't have standards.)
Douglas Warden aka Mage was doing a magic show for a children's birthday party when the power went out. In accordance to their nature the spotlights he had on went out when power stopped being fed to them. Normally this wouldn't warrant much attention or worry from Douglas but one by one all the houses on the block lost power, which still didn't really gain Douglas' interest. But then the police drove by. Many, many cars. Too many for this to be a normal incident. And not just that. There were no fire trucks or paramedics among the police cars. Which meant that this wasn't an accident. And finally, as if in a grand finale to finally catch Douglas Warden's interest, the screaming started. Terrible screaming. It was distant and he could barely hear it but it was terrible. If you asked Douglas what Hell sounded like he would have told you it sounded like that screaming. That was what got douglas wardne to mobilize. He ran to his "chest o, magic" and grabbed his sword, his cards, and his smokebombs.

"Sorry kids, looks like the show's gonna have to end early." Douglas said, tipping his hat.

He hitched a ride on a police car then jumped quickly to anoer. The screaming got louder as he approached the powr plant. Truly it was hell. When he finally reached the powe plant he found police lines set up all around. As if police could do anything against whoever was making people scream like that. Those PRT vans might be able to, though. But Douglas didn't really think so though. He was of the opinion that he should try to help wether people could handle things or not. After all, things tended to be unpredictable. He walked right up to the outside of the police lines.

"I'm afraid I can't let you past sir." A cop near the outside perimeter said.

Douglas sighed. "Please don't make this difficult." He said, accompyaning his words with the formation of a psychic card. "I'm a parahuman. Let me past."

"Are you threatining me?" The cop said, obviously not impressed.

"Only if you try to keep me from helping the poor people in that building."

In the end the cop let him through. You just didn't argue with Mage. Douglas Warden walked throigh the police lines, waiting for someone to notice and yell at him or something.

The loud smack of a rather large man hitting the hard foam sparing mat grabbed the attention of everyone in the room. Knocked off his feet by a swift, low kick, then pinned only seconds later by a woman he had at least a good foot and two hundred pounds on wasn't something that looked good. But, the Tinker watching the two "fight" looked very pleased. "Wow...Bailey, that was pretty cool!"

"Uh...thanks?" She stood, helping her partner to his feet with a small smile as the Tinker climbed in the ring. They made a motion for the tall man wearing a thin, almost vest like jacket to stretch his arms out, only to frown.

"Awww, you managed to break it."

"So? I'm sure everyone else you've tested did too, right?" Bailey asked, running a hand through her hair, before circling the man to look at the damage she did. A large, spider web crack covered the entire back. A soft, blueish tiny of either energy or light one seemed to seep out from the various little lines, causing Bailey to chuckle.

"Hmm, nope. You're the last person with super strength I was testing it on, and even out level 10 couldn't break it. This is really impressive. And kinda scary. But hey, without it, you probably would have put a hole in O'Neal, so I've got some tweaking to do!" Despite their failed...thing, the Tinker looked pleased as they lead the big guy away to their lab to do a few more things.

Bailey watched for a moment, before noticing her phone ringing. Her work phone. "Geez..." She muttered, leaving the ring as the next pair entered, picking her phone up out of her pile of stuff nearby. "Del'Lanis speaking," She answered.

"You up for a little heavy lifting?"

"Are you going to make that joke each time you want me to do PRT stuff"

"Maybe. Anyway, two PRT teams are needed to deal with Powerline and I'm sure they're gonna need someone like you watching their back, are you up for it or do we need to get someone else?"

"Nah, I can work tonight. My roommate can walk Ein."

"Get your ass in gear then!" And the woman on the other line hung up, leaving Bailey not long to get ready. Luckily, it didn't take her long to get geared up and loaded up into a PRT van. Compared to the squaddies, Bailey looked a little under armored just wearing a PRT vest, but she didn't really need much else. And besides, she wasn't with the squaddies, just catching a ride.

Though there were a few things she has to do that kept her in the truck, she managed to get out just in time to hear Menlo. "What the hell does he think he's doing?" She muttered, watching him from the side of the van she rode in, before shaking her head. Checking her fire arms, one last time, she finally went and joined the crowd of police and PRT squaddies. (I hope this works)

"Harder! HARDER!"
"Alex, I can't push it any harder!"
"I'm paying you forty bucks for this, you BETTER be able to push it harder!"
"Augh, shit, I missed the hole!"
"Don't swear in my apartment!"

A rather tall man with bright blonde hair and sharp gray eyes pressed his palms against the bed, digging his fingernails into the mattress. He let out a grunt as he gave a final thrust. Alexandra removed her hands from the bed and covered her ears.

Click.

"Wow. That was amazing." Alex chuckled and looked at the bed. It was finally in place, after twenty minutes of attempting to get it in place. "Thanks, Cal."

"It wasn't that hard. Someone as strong as me should have no problem." He beamed at the young woman, getting off the bed and grabbing the two twenties off of her dresser. "Alex, I'm surprised. This wasn't the booty call I expected. Are you sure you know what it means?"

"Yeah, I know! If you still want to give me a consolation fuck I'd be down for that." As she moved toward the bed, the lights suddenly popped off, plunging the room into darkness. While barely eliciting a reaction from Alex, Cal immediately began to whine. "Bloody electrical company! I can't see for shit. Alex, where the hell do you keep your flashlight?"

"My phone's about to die. Hold on." Alex stuck her hand out. Blue light pulsed through her arm, sparking at the center of her palm. A ball of blue energy hovered a few inches above her palm, illuminating the room. "Guess my power's got some mundane utility to it. I think I know what happened, and I'm gonna haul my ass to check out what went down. Stay put, Cal."

If she hadn't known him for long enough to let him know about her parahuman life, this would've freaked him out of his mind. Fortunately, they were on decent terms. Cal frowned. "Right, you're a god damn superhero..."

"That's right! I'm off." Alex turned off the light on her hand and ran over to her cabinet, pulled out a small bag with an icy blue-gray sleeveless fabric suit in it, and put it on.

"Good luck, and, stay sa-"

SLAM!

Alex sprinted down to the end of the rooftop. Upon arriving at the end, she pointed her hands down and exhaled. Two blue pulses shot from her palms, leaving a slight scorch on the rooftop. At the same time, she angled herself forward and shot through the air in an arch, going high up and then downwards toward the police perimeter. She lived quite close to the power plant - too close, in fact, for general comfort. Loud noises from maintenance crews woke her up early mornings.

She slowed herself down with another two pulses of energy, sliding to a stop before an officer. "Plasmalight of Protec-"

"Yeah, yeah, we're dealing with Powerline. If you can help not being electrocuted..."

"Thanks, officer." Alex turned to the building. Blue lines of energy circled around her legs, arms, and brightened at the soles of her feet. Within the second, she ran past the police lines and crept slowly toward the building, charging up a sky-blue energy beam atop her palm and waited, should Powerline exit the building...

May was seething as she sat outside of the power plant. She was a tabby cat at the moment, winding through officers and trying to appear as stray-like as possible. Whoever turned off the power was gonna get at least a few bruises. That dick.

She had been drawing page 45 of her comic “One and the Same” when the power went out. The problem was that when the power went out, that shit did not automatically save on her computer. All that hard work had slipped through her cramped fingers. Soon after, PRT cars rushed past her apartment . So, since duty kind of called (not really, she was just looking for revenge.) , she dressed in her costume. She had to think about what she should be before she turned into a tabby cat and left.

PRT were crawling everywhere. Nothing a little eavesdropping can’t solve. From what May could hear, there were 25 hostages. ‘Are you serious?’ Is what she wanted to say, however, May was a cat and cats don’t talk. Goddamn biology. She trotted across the asphalt and squeezed through the space between a... stage magician’s legs? Glancing back one more time at the curious figure, she walked away to hide underneath a car.

Time to play the waiting game.

Menlo walked out from behind the van and to the middle of the road in front of the power plant.

POWERLINE

Upon hearing Doctor Menlo’s voice, the crowd stopped screaming and sighed in relief.

The girl turned towards them, “WHY DID YOU STOP SCREAMING?!” She yelled out. She pointed her hand towards one of the hostages and let out a charge into their lower abdomen, triggering the nerves connected to their bowels…making them shit themselves.

She giggled light-heartedly, “So? Keep yelling, come on~!” She said.

Screams again. Even louder and more desperate than before.

She walked up to the power plant’s intercom system and pressed a button, speaking into the microphone.

She cleared her throat, “Ooooh, Doctor Menlo! My one true love! It’s been so long!” She dramatically announced.

Exactly 4 days, 15 hours and 23 minutes since I disabled that big hospital downtown!” Powerline spoke, sitting down on a chair.

She giggled again as if she could not contain her laughter. She looked at the hostages and picked up the microphone, starting to walk back and forth between the hostages once more.

There were a couple of seconds of silence, but then she resumed speaking once more, “My demands are…that I keep one hostage for myself for my escape, so that my safety is ensured…a flying vehicle in which to escape…and I want one of Menlo’s gauntlets.” She listed out, counting on her fingers all of the requests.

Just three! It isn’t too much to ask for, is it?” She said in an enthusiastically optimistic tone, smiling brightly under her mask. “So? What will it be~? 25 dead people or 25 safe people, Menlo without a gauntlet and the police with one less helicopter~?

well, can't let that happen.
What's the guarantee that she won't just kill the hostages anyway. Douglas thpight to himself. Villains were always making these kinds of promises and then not willing to follow up on them. Or at least, they were on TV. Douglas honestly didn't know about real life. He had foight only a few villains and they were dumb.

Just then a cat squeezed between Douglas' legs and ran under a car, suprising him. Douglas walked up to look under the car and found the cat nestled there or something. "What're youd doing here?" He muttered, not nessisarily expecting an answer.

When Powerline mentioned disabling the hospital last week, Menlo yelled in response: "You're an inspiration to every punk with a crowbar and a ski-mask!"

Then, Powerline spoke her demands. Menlo calculated the odds of victory, created a plan of action, and smirked. He turned around to Kelsey and the rest of the PRT squads. "God, she's so stupid," he said as she gave out her demands. "This will be a walk in the park. Just follow my lead. We've practically won already."

Menlo turned back to the powerplant with the megaphone and yelled back: "I took your demands through with Kelsey here. We accept."

"W-What? What are you doing?" Kelsey objected, but then stopped when he remembered that Menlo had a plan. He then turned off the megaphone and once again turned to Kelsey. "Prepare the containment foam guns. Spray her as soon as I give the mark." Menlo ripped off his Personal Isolator, making himself vulnerable to lightning.

"What are you doing?" Kelsey asked.

"You'll see." He pushed his communicator. "This is Doctor Menlo. Requesting flying vehicle to my location. The faster the better. Time of requisition: ASAP, rocky, pronto."

And then, Menlo just leaned over a PRT van with his arms folded.

Approx. 3 minutes later...

The skies shook and the heaven cried, as a Tinkertech PRT helicopter landed nearby. Black, bulletproof plating, with a top speed of 622km/h. Fastest model available anywhere. Menlo took the megaphone in his hands and clicked it on. "Your transport's here."

He removed one of his gauntlets and held it in his hand, to further the illusion of his cooperation. I hope this works.

The girl chuckled, “Thanksies!” She exclaimed into the microphone, turning it off. As soon as she heard the helicopter approach, she took one of the hostages and forced him to her feet.

Come on, we’ll go have a little stroll now, but wait here for a moment.” She spoke to the civilian, walking towards all of the hostages and untying them.

Run.” She uttered in a deadly serious tone. “Run as fast as you can. Run for your life.” She spoke again in the same tone.

All of the hostages got up on their feet and ran as fast as possible towards the police and the PRT officers. Some police officers ran up to them and placed blankets around them, bringing them to the ambulances. They were all extremely pale, and they were shaking. One of them…was stinking. It was the one that shit himself.

She turned to the hostage that was still there and grabbed him by the collar, “Let’s go~!” She said, walking through the power plant, going back on her path to reach the place where she entered. It was a small hole in the fencing, just enough to let her through.

She turned to the hostage and let his collar go, “Alright, now scream as loud as you can, make a ruckus.” She said while slowly taking out one of her M1911 handguns, pointing it in the air.

The young man went pale and started yelling as loud as he could, collapsing on the ground in desperate crying. Powerline giggled and shot the whole mag up at the sky, laughing maniacally.

DIE, DECEASE, AND PERISH! HAHAHAHAHA!” She yelled out, still shooting at the sky. She took out her other handgun and kept shooting its mag, still laughing.

Two mags empty. She turned towards him very quickly. “Now shut up!” She exclaimed quietly. The shouting stopped.

She knelt beside him and placed her hand on his neck, discharging a non-lethal shock that would knock him out. Moreover, that he did: the man twitched lightly and closed his eyes, drooling copiously.

Ew.” She said, looking at the man’s mouth. “That’s gross.” She said, chuckling. She slipped through the hole in the fencing and then disappeared in the concrete jungle behind the power plant.

A small yellow lightning flew from the ground up into a cloud. The cloud turned grey and it started raining over the power plant. Utter silence again. Utter silence, raindrops, and desperate crying ruled the atmosphere of the power plant.

Doctor Menlo

Menlo saw the hostages leaving. He ignored that fact. It was obvious she'd release them one way or another lest she lose all her leverage. No, what he was surprised about was that she didn't follow shortly behind them.

And then, he heard handguns firing far away. "Well, I did not expect that. She's even dumber than I thought. It seems all that electricity fried her brain."

Menlo put his gauntlet and personal isolator back on.

His plan was simple: pretend he was giving up his gauntlet, then throw the personal isolator into the air and magnetically steer it onto the hostage, before telling the PRT soldiers to fire their containment foam. Now that she started running away, she made catching her easier, and the fact she had a hostage with her made it obvious that they wouldn't stop going after her. Was this a trap? Highly unlikely.

"Squad one pursue on foot. Squad two, get into the helicopter. Plan of action: Squad two will spray containment foam from above. Squad one will secure the package. I'm going with squad one for ground support."

Sergeant Kelsey took point and led his men (and woman) forward with Doctor Menlo, while the rest of the PRT officers got into the helicopter and had the pilot take them up to give chase after the target. She wasn't getting away.

She took a deep breath and entered one of the abandoned buildings. There were a couple of dead car batteries and a small bed. This was the place where she prepared for the “hit”. It was an ugly place, but it was enough.

She placed her hands on the car batteries and unloaded all of her energy inside them, emptying herself from all the electricity she had stored up. She put the car batteries in a grey, insulated suitcase and closed it up.

Then, she takes off her costume and mask, disabling completely the entirety of her tech and placing it into a backpack. She put on some casual clothing and got out of the building from the back door, tying her long brown hair into a ponytail. But it was at this moment that she noticed a squad of PRT Members, pointing their rifles at her in a circle formation around the door.

"Uhm...I can explain?" She smiled nervously as her left eye twitched.

Codename: Knight
Location: A Rooftop near the Powerplant
Action: Observing the Powerplant Crisis

A little ways away, stood an armored individual observing a hostage situation at the local Powerplant on top of a building. A little had changed since Knight had last made their appearance about 3 years ago. It was a good scouting effort, to see response times and the various heroes that he would encounter. First thing was that the PRT increased how fast they responded to the Parahuman attacks, and there was several people of interest within the perimeter of the police line. One was oddly a man wearing what seemed to be a Magician clothing, another was a man wearing a blue suit with a backpack and a mask seemed to work with the PRT, another came by who was wearing a blue tank top and gloves as well as stockings, then there was a cat as well though that one seemed like a pointless thing to make note of but still it was there. Knight watched as the hostages wee let go and could hear some demands or talks but he didn't pay much attention.

He did watch as the supposed aggressor here ran from the Powerplant to some old looking building. They never appeared out again, which either suggested they got out of costume or they would try to shake off the heat by hiding. Either way once the helicopter became more active, Knight left the rooftop and was gone. Now was not the time to make his appearance yet, it has been 3 years and so that required a more dramatic entrance into the city. Hopefully the new heroes would provide a good challenge in increasing Knight's Psionic strength, especially if he can find the one who defeated him 3 years ago....

*Knight will make his appearance soon*

For a moment, Alpha did nothing but stood and blinked his eyes several times. The sudden darkness that enveloped him caught him in surprise, and his eyes weren't adjusted to the darkness. After cautiously for a moment standing still, he concluded that it was due to the power went out. Rummaging his jacket, he took out a flashlight and exited through an open window, directly to the cafe's rooftoop.

He had been living above the cafe for more than six months. Very comfortable compsred to how he used to live. He even got hot water all year round. Even so, that was the first time the power had gotten down. Elina was very careful about her business from what he gathered. Slipping up like forgetting to pay the electric bill was not like her.

For that reason, he went out.

Something weird was going on and he didn't like it. If the cafe blew up or anything, he didn't want to be involved.

A cold feeling enveloped his body. He could feel himself being fainter, less solid to the world. Activating his background presence, Alpha manifested a square plane mirror in the air and stepped upon it. The plane mirror slowly descended on to the street, where Alpha broke the mirror into four parts and placed them around him. Mirrors made a good substitute for camera with the right angels.

Alpha moved his mirror closer to his body as he entered a densely filled street. Did something happen recently? He was careful not to bump straight into someone; Direct physical contact could easily took him from behind his power. His mirrors showed pedestrians all over the street, some were bending over their phone. Cars drove slowly on the road, stopped by a long queue of others vehicles on the street. A frown appeared on his face. Was there a sort of holiday today? Or would it be another crime? He should be careful. As he fell into thought, he was distracted for a moment, and bump right into a woman.

He fell down. The control over his mirrors broke down, and all four of them shattered with a noise on the pavement. Rubber and leather soles broke the glass into smaller pieces.

"Sorry... I was distracted," he mumbled, trying to gather the larger shards of the broken mirror.

Standing on a rooftop of an abandoned building dressed in a silver mask and black cloak, Darian watched as a squad of PRT members surrounding some woman. He didn't know for what reason they were doing it, but something he did know someone was paying him to disrupt PRT squads attempting to detain people for the next few days. Wanting to earn his pay check, Darian gathers black electricity at his hands and fired towards the squad.

Instantly, mercilessly, she was sprayed with containment foam from the PRT squaddies.

Doctor Menlo

"It's amazing. One minute she makes a guy shit himself by agitating his anal musculature to the point of release as a form of torture - the other she's trying to explain why it takes so long to change from her costume to normal clothes," Menlo noted, but he felt something was off. Nothing is ever too easy. A villain wouldn't just pull this stunt like that without a more solid plan for the PRT's arrival and capture attempt. Were there no bombs in the area? Automated sniper androids? Other traps? Maybe this girl was an illusion or a doppelganger?

No. If she was, she wouldn't have been able to take anyone hostage. How could he even consider something like----BWHOOOM! A bolt of sudden, black lightning hit the squad from behind. That answered his worries.

Menlo's suit detected the discharge and turned the Isolator on just in time to protect him, but the black lightning was anomalous. The systems of the Isolator struggled but finally managed to dispatch it into the ground after two seconds. Menlo looked at the man who fired the lightning and recognized him. Black-Surge.

Great, another person immune to most of his abilities. The very idea of people throwing electricity made Doctor Menlo think about weaponizing his Isolator device. Throw them like magnetized grenades that attach themselves to people who can shoot lightning and disrupt their powers. It wasn't a bad idea. Note to self: construct such an item.

Menlo reached out with his right hand, then moved his fingers over the fallen PRT soldiers. Instantly, the weapons they held rose into the air. He then gestured at Black-Surge and the guns pointed at him. Menlo clenched his hand and the weapons fired continously. Not having fine control over your own powers made things difficult. Menlo's electromagnetics relied on hand gestures to work, but they were precise and strong, so he didn't complain.

Alex kept her guard and followed Squad One to get to the house with Powerline. Some things went down, and Plasmalight was mostly concerning herself with keeping people in line and stopping civilians from entering the premise and risking their lives just to get a view. As she walked toward the lines and watched them spray down Powerline with foam, a slight blackish light crossed the corner of her eye. A black lightning bolt!

"GET DOWN!" It was too late. Alex barely managed to shoot out an energy pulse and dodge the bolt, taking a PRT soldier with her. Both of them fell to the ground, rolling several feet before coming to a stop. She immediately stood up and clenched her teeth, brushing the dust from her arms. She didn't recognize who the villain was, or what their true capabilities were. Either way, Alex had a few moments to react.

It looked as if Dr. Menlo was attempting to fight fire with fire - or in this case, lightning with lightning. That was it.

Alex's abilities were barely electricity based. It contained an insubstantial amount of electricity, enough that it could bypass magnetic fields and still deliver a searing impact. She pulled her hand back. A blue spark shot from her fingertips and whirred to life, forming into a large ball of energy. An attack like this on a person would be more than enough to knock them out and burn half their face, if she got them on the head, Manton Effect considered and all.

She stepped out from behind a PRT officer and immediately fired the beam of energy straight at the black-lightning slinging villain, hidden in the flurry of attacks from Dr. Menlo. However, it would feel very different from a lightning bolt if it hit.

Watching the guns begin to float and point towards him, Darian turns himself into black lightning and launches himself towards a metal drain pipe next to where he was standing. He then travels down the pipe towards the ground. Arriving at the ground almost instantly, he exits the pipe and turns back to his normal state, and fires another bolt of black lightning towards Menlo with his left hand, but this time twice the power. At the same time, He uses his right hand to fire a bolt towards the two PRT members that managed to dodge the initial blast.

Menlo dodged the attack, knowing that something of that scale would fry his equipment. He leapt in the direction of the PRT members and managed to protect them with his own body.

The black lightning enveloped Menlo's silhouette, trying to tear through and destroy him, but his Isolator pushed it back again and again until it finally managed to force the black lightning into the ground. Alan felt injured from the attack, but not conventionally. The lightning might not have hit him directly, but the heat from it practically burned at the air around his suit, discoloring it and burning his body a little.

This lightning could interfere with his protective field. Alan gulped, then clenched his hand again. The weapons let out a staccato of gunfire in Darian's direction. Doctor Menlo nervously looked at his gauntlet. Battery at 62%. These attacks were rapidly eating through his shield. "That's bad. That's extremely, very not good."

She tried to run, she tried to dodge out of the way, she tried in all ways to get away, but the foam was too quick. She struggled against its constricting force, to no avail. She moved her mouth out of the foam to breathe better and stuck out her neck for more comfort. She kept struggling, but in the end, she gave up.

…FUCK!” She screamed out in a clearly pissed tone, looking at Doctor Menlo. Her expression was a mix of disappointment, anger, and…admiration. Her eyes looked all around, searching for anything or anyone that could help her out of this situation…and there was. She put her gaze on Black Surge for a couple of seconds, only to then avert her gaze somewhere else.

She sighed and looked at Doctor Menlo, “Oh, you caught me. Good job. Happy now?” She said with an Alright-You-Win tone. Her gaze frantically went from Black-Surge to Doctor Menlo repeatedly, as if she was waiting for him to help her. Finally, her prayers were answered. A shock of black lightning hit behind the PRT Team and apparently killed them.

YES! Uh, I mean…oh no! They’re dead, maybe! What a shaaame!” She exclaimed, looking at their motionless bodies. As soon as Menlo made their guns float and start shooting at Surge, her jaw dropped. So…amazing! Her mind started wondering. She was lost in thought, thinking about how wonderful it would be to have a show about Doctor Menlo being so awesome.

She looked up at the sky, completely ignoring the fight, day-dreaming about the coolness of the possible fight scenes in said show.

Her eyes constantly tracked the black-lightning shooting man, up until he entered a pipe and electro-ported to the ground, prepared to fire another blast of that black lightning at Dr. Menlo. Alexandra wasn't well versed in Dr. Menlo's equipment (she didn't care about it anyway), but she figured he'd be able to handle it. The one person who wouldn't be able to handle it would be the PRT officer standing before her.

Alexandra quickly shoved the PRT soldier out of the way and barely side-stepped past the lightning attack. Alexandra let out a shout of pain, stumbling back and nearly falling over when a bit of the black lightning arched into her body. She glanced at her shoulder. The electricity tore a bit of her skin and suit. Even with that part of her suit and skin burned, Alexandra pulled herself to her feet again, twitching another time from the electricity in her body. She recollected another mass of blue energy, pointed it toward the villain, and fired it from a completely different angle. The bright blue beam lit up the face of the building, crackling loudly as it blasted through the air toward the lightning-shooting man.

Raphael curled another one of the weights, sweat dripping down the side of his face. His muscles were tense, but constantly healed themselves at every one of the curls. Mateo was tapping furiously against the Zoom Base computer, the large screen blinked from image to image. From the gym on the side, Raph could make up some of what the computer depicted. "So the second suit's coming out well, eh?" Raph called out. He'd now moved from the weights to the pull up bar where he continued into a series of flips before doing the conventional pull ups. "I'm trying to find a way to input all of the upgrades without burning you up in the suit. The wiring and balancing out the heat is the problem. Plus you're always running so I can't fry the circuitry either, your powers are so basic yet delicate at the same thing, it's frustrating." Raphael sighed, "Utilise la prudence, Mateo." Raph whispered under his breath. "You do know I'm spanish right? I don't understand a word you just said."

Raph shook his head. "Pace yourself, a'ight? I really don't need a new suit saying as the one I already have functions fine. Let's get to that chapter of Zoom later alright?" Mateo shook his head, "You have so much genius yet you use phrases like "pace yourself." Not all parahumans are good, your mom sacrificed her life for this job, you could at least--" "Don't talk about my mother like that alright." Raphael interrupted, his voice stern and loud. The room went silent for a moment before alarms blinked onto the computer screen. Mateo had found a firewall in the PRT system, and used his access to the database as an alarm system for Zoom. "It's Powerline, she's at the Powerplant. The hostages are out, ugh this info's a bit late. But, Black Surge is there... like her back up. Get there quick, Doctor Menlo and Plasmalight are in trou--"

Raphael was already in the suit, sprinting out of the Chimirel estate and towards the power plant. "--ble." Time slowed down for Raph, the visor over his eyes mapped out the way to the plant from the estate. In what he thinks was four seconds, Raph had already arrived at the scene. Raphael could see the surge of black lightning escaping Black Surge, and Menlo barely fighting back with his gauntlet. Menlo hadn't a chance against this parahuman. He also noted that the PRT were at the scene, he hadn't any affiliation with the group, and hoped things would run equally smoothly in spite of him also being a parademon. With a flicker of white light escaping his eyes, Raph darted towards doctor Menlo, his perception of time slowed down as he ran. He made sure to make no contact with Black surge's lightning, grabbing doctor Menlo's waist, before dropping him off behind a PRT van for cover. He turned back to Black Surge, all in the same second, zoomed forwards towards the attacker. He wrapped an arm around Black Surge's statue-like waist, running towards the fence before his sprinting turned upwards, a skill he'd acquired in the three years of having his abilities. He soon dropped Surge from his grasp, allowing the parahuman a lengthy drop from the top of the fence. Parahumans weren't like normal humans, and even if it wasn't their specialty, were often stronger and more durable than average. He knew Surge would survive the fall.

The two PRT soldiers that had been on the other end of Black Surge's lightning were Raph's next focus. He made his way towards the officers, inching them away from the trajectory of the bolts to leave them unscathed from Surge's attacks. Raph then went on to carry the PRT soldier by Plasmalight back to the van for protection, before doing the same for Alex herself. She was heavier, muscle he thought, due to her fit silhouette. He had to make sure he avoided the bolt of energy escaping her hands though. He stood Alex, and Doctor Munlo to face himself by another PRT van, before quickening his perception into real time. It would all appear as a blink of light for those he'd moved, maybe a nauseous feeling for those who weren't lucky. The prior bolts of lightning sent out to the PRT officers he'd rescued only formed a black scorch in the fencing of the power plant. He took a moment to catch a breath, running at speeds such as those could've had him asphyxiated.

"I bought you some time. Now what's the plan."

The bolt of black lightning Darian fired at Menlo but got dodged continued flying, and hit the woman in the foam. 'Shit...' Darian thought to himself as he realized that. He turned his attention towards the beam that was being fired at him. He was about to retaliate but he was suddenly falling from the top of the fence. His first instinct was to reach out and touch the fence. At the same time he turned himself into lightning and traveled inside the fence. Realizing the situation has gone bad, he begins to try and think of an escape plan. He jumps out of the fence and looks around. He sees a utility pole not far from him. He fires a bolt of lightning at it, knocking down the power lines on them. Darian then begins to sprint towards the downed lines.

Bailey Del'Lanis
Something wasn't right. This was to easy, especially dealing with a Parahuman like Powerline. Bailey tagged along near the back of Squad one, keeping an eye on their surroundings. She had a bad feeling that this was just a stunt leading the PRT into an ambush. Bailey hated it when she was right. Black lightning suddenly erupted from behind the PRT squad, and because of where she was standing, she was hit with the full force of the lightning. Her muscles seized and started twitching, causing her to fall. Her jaw clenched, and despite the pain, she was unable to make much noise. Normal humans would have been killed by how much electrical power just passed through her body, but her durability kept her alive. But she was down for a good 30 seconds to a minute.

After it passed, she slowly proped herself up on her elbows, coughing harshly. Her muscles were still twitching, and some of her hair seemed to be a little burnt, but other than that, she looked okay. Her hair then stood on end again, and she had only a split second to roll to the side and avoid another direct hit redirected from Menlo's gear. "Hey watch it!" She coughed, trying to get up, but her legs were still suffering from the effect of being hit with however many volts that Black Surge had hit her with. "Shit! Shit! SHIT!" She rolled again, avoiding another something that flashed through the battlefield. Seconds later she realized that she, Powerline, and someone else were the only ones left, along with the bodies of the PRT members who hadn't survived Black Surge's first attack. "Fuck."
