Girouette
Lizard knight Overlord
This is a roleplay I tried to run back in 2015, I had spent quite some time on it but it never found the success I would have like, I figured since BBCode was now back and the original formatting worked properly now would be a good time to try and re-run it. I'd like to gauge interest first, so I'll just put the original description area here. Please respond if you'd be interested, although it will need some re-tuning. I also will need to fix the pictures in this description should I choose to run it, although it had images I'd collected to give a sense of the monsters involved.
I don't have the link to the failed first attempt, as it's been buried after years, though I may go and look around for it should anyone be interested.
Regardless, here it is. As I said, the formatting needs to be fixed as this is from ages ago, but spare it too much scrutiny! I'll make it look nice if it gets interest, focus on the idea for now.
WHAT IS THIS ROLEPLAY?
This roleplay is a combination of ideas I've had throughout the years roleplaying, it's a combination of adventure roleplaying, along with aspects of upgrading, equipment management and mechanics found in Video Games, with a good dose of absurdly large monsters and badassery.
If you have an affinity for games like Monster Hunter, Shadow Of The Colossus, or simply enjoy the idea of fighting stupidly massive (and sometimes not-as-massive) monsters by wielding absurd weapons and abilities you gain from literally devouring the soul of the creature, then this might be the roleplay for you.
If none of that seems appealing to you, especially the last one, then I implore you to look elsewhere for a roleplay, although this could still be enjoyable.
Regardless, this roleplay has quite a few mechanics and is... well, I've worked on this for a few weeks, so I apologize if any of these explanations of the mechanics don't make sense. I'd like for you to post in the OOC or PM me if you have any questions. Without further ado, let's start with the titans themselves.
MONSTERS
The monsters that will be encountered in this roleplay are all unique and varied, and they have quite a few mechanics to them which are explained tabs below, I hope you read each one thoroughly, if they're not too long.
THE WORLD
The world that this roleplay takes place in is fairly alike our own as far as geography and climate is concerned, with the exception of the Monsters and the various cultures. I won't list every culture and kingdom due to Space and Time restraints, so I'd like to implore you to make your own culture. Simply base it off a real-one if you like, or use one someone else has made. Of course, I'd like for you to follow the other guidelines I've set up for the world.
In addition, the era this takes place in would be akin to the Medieval Ages on earth, although certain technology has advanced in the past 50 years since people began harvesting the monsters and adapting their weapons and lives based on it.
One thing to note is where kingdoms and civilizations are founded, I implore you to look at the 'Fortress Class' Section above for more information.

MONSTERS
The monsters that will be encountered in this roleplay are all unique and varied, and they have quite a few mechanics to them which are explained tabs below, I hope you read each one thoroughly, if they're not too long.
The Creatures appeared around 1600 years prior to the current time-period, and humanity have long since forgotten what brought them into existence. In fact, on the backs of the Fortress-class monsters, many forget the corruption that ravishes the land below, or simply think it's something they shouldn't concern themselves with.
However, as a new member of the Titan Hunters, you'd be expected to know of the history and have an interest in the monsters, so here's a quick summary.
About 1700 years ago, the original monster came into being. His origin is unknown, although theories of godly punishment, Cosmic Energy, and Dark Magic were widely accepted. Nonetheless, due to a lack of a better name, the create was named 'The Origin'. It was a creature of such immense strength and power that it was claimed he could wipe stars from the sky with a simple glance.
This being possessed a seething loathe towards anything on the Earth. Flowers, animals, rivers, and humans most of all. With his coming, humanity was plunged into an age of darkness. The lights in the sky vanished, blocked out by a seemingly impenetrable veil of darkness, and humans were tortured and kept in prison-like towns. It was truly the most miserable act to ever be committed towards humanity.
That was until a hundred years of depravity and suffering later, when humanity found a way to fight back.
Perhaps the Gods had enough of the cruel joke when somewhere in one of the prisons the first Titan slaying weapon appeared. Nobody knows if it was forged or found, but there it was. A lone hero, his name was lost to history, took up the Diavolul Blade and stood up for humanity against The Origin. After a fierce battle, he found that he was unable to kill The Origin. However, he was able to do something nearly as good. The Soul of the Origin, it's immense source of power, was shattered into millions of fragments. These fragments spread across the world, and as you might've inferred by now, began to form the creatures later known as Titans.
These Titans, about 50 years after the Origin was slain, began to overtake humanity in population, and due to the sheer size and danger of some, humans eventually found themselves once more in hiding. This time, with much more freedom than before however. It could even be said that, a thousand years later, many had forgotten the oppression and dangers the Earth below held, free on the backs of fortress monster they lived upon.
Except for you, of course.
- Small
Small monsters are the most common, with close to a million inhabiting the earth.
The size of small monsters is from 3ft to 60ft, they vary from humanoid shapes to animal like creatures, although mostly all human types fall under this, this is the only class that often has more than 1 of a certain type of monster, ad groups of the same type will often be found.
- -Medium
Medium sized monsters go from 70 feet to around 600 feet, they are normally large animal like creatures, although examples of humanoid ones aren't rare, and a few are shaped and have attributes of plants, most dragon-titans fall under this.
- -Large
Large creatures go anywhere from 600 feet to around 3 miles, large creatures are mostly found as either flying, fortress, or ocean titans, and very few are humanoid.
- -Titan
The Titan class is made up of the largest creatures, from 3 miles stretching to nearly infinity, it's been said that some of the serpents in this class are close to 400 miles long, although anything larger than 40 miles generally has to be something that lives in the water, and so the titan class is mostly taken up with creatures of mountains size, or sea serpents, they are generally the most dangerous.
- -Fortress type
The fortress class is interesting, as it could be any size class (Bar small), and is categorized by having the unique distinction of having either Land or Building on them. They also are generally easily controlled, and tend to be docile and are therefor easy to live on, hunters don't slay them as they don't pose a threat.
However, certain types of monsters are known to control these fortresses, making them terrible threats to other ones, which have civilization on top of them.
Small Humanoid types are often intelligent and control other monsters. This is due to their souls being mostly composed out of the intelligent parts of The Origin's soul. They could be considered some of the most dangerous if only due to their capabilities, but of course, this doesn't apply to all of them.
Animalistic monsters also exist (as seen below) but they aren't as intelligent as their humanoid counter-parts, and often act much more feral than the humanoid ones would.
Medium size monster pose a far more lethal danger than the smaller types, and can span anywhere from 30ft to 600ft in size. Though intelligent medium-sized monsters aren't non-existant, they are far from usual.
Large creatures are the fun ones, spanning from 600 feet to 3 miles, there's a crazy amount of diversity, and so I'll just provide a few images I think give a good view of 'large' instead of classing them into different sections.
Some monsters are actually controlled by much larger more intelligent monsters instead of being their own masters. These gorillas, for example.
(And yes, some of these will be used in the roleplay!)
Titans are the largest, anywhere from 3 miles to nearly infinity, once more I'll just provide a few pictures for a better understanding.
Fortress Class monsters are...Akin to any monster that people can live on, and doesn't attack if unprovoked. These can be anything from Massive land beasts with sprawling kingdoms stretching for 300 miles, to a small home on the back of a flying creature.
- Harmless
Things like most fortress class Titans or anything that wouldn't pose a threat to an average farmer. They won't attack, and probably won't retaliate when provoked, could possibly even be tamed and kept as a pet. Although taming monsters is dangerous, people generally start with these. Mostly Herbivores. - Mild
Mild monsters are just that, fairly mild. They won't attack on sight, but can put up a fight if provoked, though generally just go about their business. Easy enough to kill, but with weaker souls. Certain monsters start at this level however, and grow more dangerous as they're angered. Mostly Omnivores. - Moderate
Moderate titans can pose a threat to a new hunter (Which mostly everyone is, due to the guild being newly formed.) but can be taken down with enough skill. They do attack on sight and are generally carnivorous. - Dangerous
Dangerous level is...Well, very dangerous, a hunter without any training or even a moderately good one with no enhancements would be easily torn down. They go out of their way to find fights, and hunt and eat for fun. - Godlike
Godlike is the level used to describe beings that are intelligent, and amazingly strong. Godlikes can be anywhere from small-sized to titan-sized, as they're classified by the power of their soul and not their physical strength.
- Harmless
THE WORLD

YOU
Now, you may ask, if people live in seeming peace on the backs of Titans, why do people risk their lives slaying creatures beyond their imagination?
Well...For some, it's the glory, for some it's simply the thrill, some people desire the power these monsters souls grant, some are simply roped into it.
The guild however, exists for a greater purpose. Throughout the past 300 years, it was founded by a descendant of the Great Hero by searching relentlessly for the weapon used to split the soul from The Origin, in order to fulfill the Heroes duty, and rid the world of the corruption the titans bring.
Well most in the guild doesn't really care about that, they all have their own reasons for slaying monsters, but I can assure you, most agree that it can be crazy amounts of fun.
The guild, titled Diavolul after the Titan-Slaying blade that split The Origin, was founded by a man named Erel Funual, the closest descendant of the Great Hero. It was created in order to continue his quest to save the world from Corruption, which he still believed was spread over the earth by the titans even if most humans had forgotten.
And so the guild searched for the Titan-Slaying Blade of legend. The Titans could be killed with conventional weaponry you see, but their souls simply reformed their bodies minutes later. Without any way to destroy or absorb their souls, any attempt to rid the world of titans wouldn't be successful.
That is until 10 years ago, when a few fragments of the Diavolul Blade was found and one was sold to the guild for an insanely exorbitant price. After confirming it was real, the guild began to produce weapons capable of not only splitting the soul so they can be absorbed or destroyed, but also capable of using the energy from the titans souls as fuel. Because of this they are much more powerful than any conventional weaponry, and make slaying monsters hundreds of times easier. It is still difficult however, as it would take hundreds of men to take down a medium danger small one with conventional weaponry. You may see more about weapons in the weapon section.
The Guild hall
The Guild Hall is located in the Kingdom of Frinam, a fairly average kingdom that looks like above, it's nothing special, and is located on the country/fortress class titan named Soplim, a Ocean class fortress about 400 Miles. long, and for the people on it, seems like any other landmass. (In fact most of them probably do think that they're just on some kind of island.)
The Guild-hall is rather run-down, and at this point in time could probably not even support a group of ten living in it, and so the guild doesn't really operate out of there most of the time, in fact, our specific group is being sent out with a few tents, a boat to the mainland, and some horses.
Souls are an interesting mechanic, and one of the coolest.
Every monster contains a soul which can be split by a Diavolul weapon. When split, instead of reforming, the soul can be used for three things. Either the guild member can absorb it, increasing their physical power, or they can apply it to their weapon, increasing their weapons effectiveness and strength, or even store it for later use. When splitting the souls of larger, more dangerous creatures, their souls might contain certain attributes from the monsters. These attributes are referred to as enhancements, and can be applied to either Titan Hunters or their weapons.
The human body can only hold 4 of these enhancements at any one time. Two active souls that grand active abilities, like generating fire, turn your skin to stone, or perhaps the ability to glide for short periods of time.
Then also two souls that grant a passive enhancements, like tougher skin, larger lung capacity, resistance to fire, strengthened muscles. The ability that one would gain would depend on the level of the monster slain, and so would the abilities granted.
Applying a soul to a weapon is equally good. Some weapons can hold more souls than others, but each attribute soul applied to it also gives it unique abilities or enhances a single stat more than it usually would. for instance, a sword given a soul from a certain fire monster may give the weapon the ability to become engulfed in flames, or swing faster than possible, or it could simply increase it's general effectiveness.
The difference between upgrading a weapon with regular souls or attribute ones is that an ability on a weapon is only temporary, in that it only stays on the weapon until it's been consumed to the point it can no longer be used. At this point it is converted into a general increase in power of the weapon. Instead, a regular enhancement to a stat is more of a permanent upgrade.
Diavolul weaponry is the specific type of weapon that is capable of splitting the soul of a titan. There are only about 40 in existence, and each one is made from a fragment of the original Diavolul Blade. Each one contains a specific essence of the blade, and no weapon is the same type. There is only one Diavolul Sword, one Diavolul Cannon, one Diavolul Spear, one Diavolul Lance, etc, it is possible to create similar types of weapons, however it's due to the concept of the weapon being contained within each fragment, the legend of the Great Diavolul blade presenting it's ability to be seen as any weapon usable in every situation.
The important thing about these Diavolul weapons is that they are much more powerful than normal weapons. This power however comes from, as one would expect, souls. They don't draw power from Titan Souls, but from the soul of the wielder. Therefore Titan Slayers must continuously consume Monster souls for as long as they use the weapons, lest they die from getting their soul drained.
