MIMI
"A beautiful thing is never perfect."
"A beautiful thing is never perfect."
[/div]
Nothing could have prepared Mariah for what was to come. It felt like everything happened in some sort of blur... or at least, that's how she felt as soon as his face came into focus. One minute, she'd been standing there with the other three people on her wing, trying to find the kitchen. The next, she was standing with those same three people on a makeshift stage, listening to the announcer speak. For the life of her, she couldn't remember a thing he'd said now. If they were to test her on her listening skills, she would surely fail. It was funny, almost... Almost.
"Will you please go and stand next to the person that you know?"
After five years, this moment was what it boiled down too. She felt too hot. No, too cold. Her heart was racing... or was it still beating at all? Her lips had parted as though she wanted to say something, but what? What could possibly be said after everything that had happened? Still, her eyes zeroed in on him and followed his every move, until he'd crossed the stage to stand in front of her. She knew she should say something. Hi? How are you? Why the fuck did you bring me here? Thank god her mother and grandmother didn't watch reality TV...
"Hey Mimi. Long time no see, huh?"
Forcing thoughts of her family from her mind, she blinked slowly as her brain registered what he'd said. Her attention was drawn away from him for a split second as the sound of a slap resounded throughout the space. Mimi winced, her eyes darting back over to Grey. And she couldn't help it. She laughed. Not a giggle, but full on laughter, as though she'd gone crazy. Maybe she had. The fit was over quickly, and she fanned her face with her hands, trying to dry the moisture that had formed in her eyes. From the laughter, of course. She wasn't crying.
"I can't believe you." She finally spoke, lowering her hands. She took a step towards him, tilting her head back to look up at his face. Without warning, she threw her arms around him, inhaling his familiar scent. "Is this real?"
