Since both our characters are wanderers, and Nadia is a bard, maybe once he stopped at a Tavern once to listen to her play? They wandered together for a little bit afterward then went their separate ways?

Since Ardelle is a Paladin and a upholder of the law, and Nadia is a Tiefling - maybe when Nadia was in a town, Ardelle warned her about Tiefling hate in that area so she wouldn't get hurt?

Since Sneezers a blacksmith....Maybe the flute that Nadia has today was forged by him? They could've also bonded slightly due to the fact they're both "gruff"? Him with his dark humor, Nadia with her smart remarks? Heck, they could've even collided rather than bonded due that similarity?

He's a dragon born and she's a tiefling.... In the D&D lore "Tieflings have no homeland and are very rare due to a long-lasting war with the dragon born"... So maybe he could hold prejudice against her? Or maybe they can break the mold and see past each other's race?

Backstory: Twenty five years ago a sailor named Colin Illi had his sealskin stole by a drow elf by the name of Teila Syren. Teila kept the selkie as her slave for seven years near the end of which they conceived a child. Colin Illi escaped before the child was born and she named after him. Colin Syren lived with her mother Teila in the Underdark for most of her childhood always keenly aware she was different from the other drow elf younglings. Not only did she look different, her mother made her wear a stupid sealskin everywhere, and she suffered from selective mutism. On her 16th birthday her father sent a letter about her other heritage and telling her to come find him so they can be father and daughter like they were meant to be. That same night Colin ran away from home and started making a living on her singing talent whilst she tries to find her father.
