I was thinking a political, Normal Cybertron. Our characters could run for office or something, have conflicts with the colonies, etc.

Not really, more like leaders of tribes/colonies/Council of worlds.
More of a casual RolePlay, action will happen, just not be a major event/build up story.

We could start at the end or beginning of Nitro’s story.

It’s fine.
At the beginning, he’s on velocitron, basically first encounter for the entire world.
At the end, he’s Starscreams second in command.

Nitro races along the Delta Highway. He was among the fastest in the action packed race. He moves swiftly through the crowd of vehicles. A final flag warns fo the end of the race. Nitro pulls ahead to become the winner.

Rising to the podium, Nitro is given the title of leader over Caminus.
“I’m not good with politics,” He jokes, “I will leave it in the hands of more capable bots.”
Taking the trophy, Nitro transforms into his car form and races off to his base.
