I. Premise
Welcome to the first day of your vacation at the Boukyaku Mountain Hotel, Onsen, and Kamikawa Shrine. You have been selected from among our many applicants by the gods to be granted access beyond the boundary, for an experience that very few have or will ever know.
As you embark on your Welcome to the first day of your extraordinary vacation at Boukyaku Hotel, Onsen, and Kamikawa Shrine. You have been selected from among our many applicants by the divine powers of the gods to be granted access beyond the earthly boundaries, for an experience that very few have or will ever know.
As you embark on your journey here, you will discover the many wonders and secrets that Kamikawa Shrine and its surroundings have to offer. You will have the opportunity to hike through the breathtaking beauty of Boukyaku Mountain and immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature, but we must humbly ask that you stay within the permitted trails, as there are many hidden dangers throughout the mountain.
Our world-renowned indoor and outdoor onsen will rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul, and leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed. The therapeutic waters are said to have healing properties and provide a rare opportunity for you to connect with the natural energies that are unique to this sacred land.
In addition, we are honored to extend a special invitation to you, our esteemed guests, to participate in the Kadogawa Summer Festival next week. This festival is a rare and cherished event that is rarely witnessed by outsiders, and it promises to be an unforgettable celebration of the unique Boukyaku culture, tradition, and community.

The majority of the cast will be from characters from all over (not limited to Japan) who had made reservations to one of the most prestigious Japanese Mountain Resorts which accepts any and all customers with surprisingly affordable booking. However it is notoriously difficult to get into as the selection process for who is allowed to attend is entirely unknown and seems to have nothing to do with wealth or fame and is seemingly random.
Your character was selected and had arrived at luxury bus terminal before being loaded onto a very nice bus which took a gorgeous scenic route along Japan's coast when disas-
And arrived safely at the resort by nightfall, having fallen asleep as spoint point during the long drive.
Obviously, they died but they themselves are none the wiser and simply believe they are on a normal retreat. Though it turns out some of the guests, including some new arrivals, happen to have been reincarnated spirits of legend and can now return to their original forms having shed their physical bonds. Though there's a lot more lurking just under the surface.
This is by all accounts a slice of life vacation rp + Asian mythological mystery drama
It's a bit sandbox-y in that a lot of things are coming together somewhat spontaneously but I do have a solid grip on the overall narrative.

II. roleplay guideline
- No limit on character age, however only 18+ characters can be involved in romance.
No exceptions.
- The expected word count is 300 - 1,500 though it's not a hard fast rule or anything
- Players are required to have Discord (sorry) as our OOC will be there
- Talking to everyone is a must, building friendships with an RP partner is a special and important part of the process. Let's be friends and have all fun together!
- Time doesn't matter. Hours or days, between posts means nothing in the grand scheme,
however, it is preferred that you can guarantee you can write at least one post a week.

III. notes from the gm
While the full scale lore of the RP is still a work in progress, there's more than enough for us to get started. I will be adapting and using a lot of Asian general mythology (such as Taoism and Buddhism) but of course since this takes place in Japan, Shintoism and Japanese Mythos will be featured more predominantly. I will do my best to keep my adaptations culturally appropriate and fun for everyone to engage with.
- Important Note: Faceclaims will be realistic for the most part, but secondary artistic FCs can be included for spirit characters
Characters will be separated into a few categories and roles but generally there enough room for anyone who wants to join. The list of character roles are as follows:
Miko (Shrine Maidens) | [1-2]: Living Human's who have special rights to access the sacred mountain, mostly because they have divine protection and are trained to survive the harsh environment beyond the safe boundaries of the Resort. They can come and go as they please, though they typically carry out many ceremonial and maintenance duties at the Shrine within the Resort. As a human with unrestricted access to the Earthly realm, they often run errands gathering things to bring back to mountain which would be unobtainable otherwise.
The Gods | [3-6]: There are a few gods which Watch over the Mountain, and some who even inhabit it such as the Four Auspicious Beasts; The Vermillion Bird of the South, The BlackTortoise Snake of the North, The Azure Dragon of the East, and The White Tiger of the West. Their shrines have been lost to time and ruin with the rest of the mountain outside the resorts protective boundaries. Only two of the Shrines have been found since the ██ ████ ██████ ████████ ███ ████████ ███ ███████ █████ ███ ██████████. Leaving the other two beasts uncontacted since. The there are two other gods as well (TBD).
The Staff | [?-?]: The staff are a mysterious mix of spirits and even humans trapped upon the mountain, they work as anyone would expect resort staff to and carry on with business as usual, taking care of many duties around the grounds.
The Guests | [?-10]: The Guests included new arrivals and the usuals who've been there for a long time. They could be human or a spirit of some kind such as a Yuki-Onna, Kitsune, or even a Kasa-obake. The limit of what is or isn't accepted for this RP is pretty loose all things considered. The new arrivals of non-human spirits do not know what they are, having long forgotten and lived the life of a human for many reincarnations. Only now are they fully awakened.
