- THE MAGICAL WORLDHOW MAGIC WORKS
Magic exists as arcane forces in the universe and Magi are those with the ability to manipulate it. Wielding magic, however, is no simple feat as it takes a toll on the body and mind. Years of study are dedicated to perfecting spells and mastering complex rituals.
Imagine a spell as a poem. A simple spell like making the image of a coin appear in the palm of your hand is like a haiku. Easy to memorize and easy to recite. The more powerful a spell is the lengthier a poem becomes.
Spells can be cast in three ways: verbally, somatically, or through ritual. Verbal and somatic spells are often the easier though most immediately draining on the body. Divination and Abjuration typically deal with more ritualistic spells.
SPELLS
This site lists the spells you character may learn. (Ignore any saving throws or dice rolls mentioned as this is only for general summaries of spells.) Students may only use spells that are level four and below (including cantrips), adults may use spells that are level eight and below. Cure wounds, heal, and healing word have been move from evocation to necromancy. Materials listed in spells are not necessary, but rituals, spells having a casting time over one action, are. Additionally, if a spell lists that is it verbal or somatic then the caster must recite an incantation or produce a memorized gesture for that spell. You may only use spells that match your school of magic, a necromancer can not use an evocation spell and vice versa.
PLANES
Some info on the types of planes can be found here, generally other planes are more medieval, but may have echos of modern society. An example of this would be comparing Stranger Thing's Upside Down world to Shadowfell. There are various planes of existence that can be explored. Not much is known about them except that they're deadly and return from exploration isn't guaranteed. Some magi may elect to traverse the unknown, though creating a door takes many years of practice, and return to share their knowledge. They're generally known as researchers, but the name can also be given to magi exploring the limits of magic in a lab in the material plane. BIMI has a collection of books written by researchers about various planes.
CLASSES OF MAGI
All people with magical abilities are referred to as magi, but there are many subclasses to which a magi may fall under. A sorcerer is an illegally self taught magi. Unable to enter the magical world for whatever reason, they resort to a wild and dark magic fed by usurping the powers of legitimate magi. An arcanist is the highest possible class for a magi as it refers to their knowledge and prowess in all fields of magic. In most countries, including America, a grand arcanist is elected and acts as the head of a grand council. The classes in between sorcerer and arcanist are typically seen as equals to one another, all having their own strengths and weaknesses.
HOW MAGI ARE BORN
Magi may be born from other magi or from humans. Typically for magi with non-magical families there was a great grandfather or great grandmother who practiced magic in secret, but coming from a wholly non-magic family isn’t too uncommon either. In rare instances, magical humanoid creatures or deities may mate with magi or humans. The offspring does not automatically gain the parent’s abilities, but may be drawn to practicing a school of magic that closely resembles it. This does not necessarily make for a more powerful magi, but rather one with abandonment issues.
DEMIGODS?
Magi and Humans differ in that human often try to give names and organize deities as to better worship them. Magi understand that deities are ever changing, always dying and being born, and rarely visit the material world to perform miracles. While magi might pay homage to a deity, they understand that there are many other planes of existence a deity might watch over and it would be considered strange and unnatural to request for consistent guidance. If a child is born from a deity they will most likely never hear from that parent in their lifetime.
WEREWOLVES AND VAMPIRES?
These are evilly aligned monsters that can not fit within magi society. It is a grim thing for a magi to be transformed into a vampire or werewolf as even the kindest person will be driven to murder. A transforming magi will have to fight the urge to kill, but will eventually succumb to the need within a few days. A magi may be cured, but only within the first week of transformation. The ingredients for the cure are found in another plane and therefore near impossible to make in time. Magi may choose to hunt vampires, werewolves and other fiends.THE REGULAR WORLDBULLWORTHA small North East Coastal city divided into four districts, Bullworth Town, New Coventry, Old Bullworth Vale, and Blue Skies Industrial Park. The town of Bullworth is geographically separated from Bigby’s Institute by Long Pond Lake though a bridge allows for people to cross over and enter the town. From a distance the school appears more run down and bears the Bullworth Academy crest on the front gates. This changes for magi halfway across the bridge as multiple wards and glyphs have be painted underneath it. The glyphs also deter the interest of humans crossing over to see the school. During school games, a visiting team will drive around the perimeter of the school’s gates and park in a parking lot located by the lacrosse/soccer field.
BULLWORTH TOWN
Bullworth Town is the commercial borough of the town, housing many of the town's shops and the town hall. Most importantly there is an combination arcade and comic book store toward the center of the district near the bus stop. The arcade is a common meeting place for conjuration students. It also appears to house many apartments.
NEW COVENTRY
New Coventry is the run-down, urban-poor borough, consisting of mainly tenement housing. There are few shops, housing the poorer residents of the town. A BMX park, a building formerly used as a train station, is where transmutation students gather.AND IT'S DISTRICTSOLD BULLWORTH VALE
Old Bullworth Vale is a borough, which has two main areas. There is a shopping section, smaller than Bullworth Town, and a residential area, which houses many of the wealthier residents of the town. It has a beach facing an ocean inlet, where many enchantment students gather, and is also where Billy Crane's Traveling Carnival is located. The carnival opens late September to the end of October, the week of Christmas, spring break, and finally May to the end of July. The carnival has a Halloween theme in October, and Christmas theme in December. The staff room in the House of Mirrors, an attraction that sits on the outskirts of carnival grounds, is the primary location for illusion students to hangout.
BLUE SKIES INDUSTRIAL PARK
Blue Skies Industrial Park is the industrial borough of the town. The area houses the poorest residents of the town and mainly consists of factories and industrial buildings. The abjuration students have a small gathering place in an abandoned warehouse. - BIGBY'S INSTITUTE FOR THE MAGICALLY INCLINEDALTERNATIVELY KNOWN AS BULLWORTH ACADEMY FOR TROUBLED YOUTH
Dean: Magnus G. Stoggs
Teachers: TBA
MAP OF B.I.M.I."This school exists for a single and timeless purpose: to reveal your innate abilities and hone them to the highest degree. Now, what you do with it after that is entirely up to you. If you want to take over the world, we don't teach that, but give it a go."WHY ARE YOU HERE?
A child may be born with magical abilities not yet known until they reach an age, typically ten to twelve, at which something triggers it; this “something” can range from a traumatic event to spilling a bowl of cereal. The U.S. Education System’s Department of Seers is able to locate said child and have an agent collect them. The child is then given the opportunity to attend one of the three magic schools in the country or have their mind wiped and powers further suppressed. If the child chooses to stay in the magical world, the parents may be told of their son or daughter's powers if the child wishes. If they do not then the parent may be enchanted to believe their child is attending an academically rigorous, yet normal and respectable, institution.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LEAVE?
Students graduating BIMI may want to move on to study under famous magi, embark on planar adventures, or open apothecaries in the magi world. Students wanting to return to the regular world after controlling their abilities will be given an enchanted transcript for a normal, respectable academy and a letter of recommendation from a staff member.
COURSES OFFERED
Bigby's students will take both magical classes and regular classes concurrently. Magic classes typically consistent of the learning of potions, magical creatures, charms and spells, etc. Regular classes are more familiar: math, english, social studies, etc. Students entering their 9th grade (ages 14-15) will be assigned a school of magic based on their MCS (Magi Classification Scoring) exam taken at the end of their 8th year. Each school of magic has it's own set of required courses that will be added onto their regular schedule.

Title: Illusionist
Required Courses: Illusions 101, Introduction to Psychology, Applications of Physics, Mirroring, Reality Warping, Environmental Recreation, Theater, Light Control, Weight and ShapeSCHOOL OF NECROMANCY”Manipulate the energies of life and death.”

While it is widely known to deal the undead, the school’s real main focus is on the body. A necromancer is well versed in both the restoration of health and the depletion of life. Necromancy may be compared to the human version of a pre-medical education and therefore is the most mentally rigorous of the schools.

• Your character can only cast spells back to back for a small amount of time. This is what makes dueling competitions fun, but draining.
• Your character is not allowed to insta-kill another character.
• Divination magi do not get to read minds and know other people’s thoughts or secrets.
• If you transfigure another character ask for permission first.
• Elementalists choosing to become a herbomancer must permanently give up the use of all fire and air spells to gain transmutation spells relating strictly to plants.
• Give other characters a window to dodge an attack. Instead of something like “she forces him to the ground and chokes him out” try “she attempts to push him down and wrap her hands around his throat.” This goes for magic as well. Instead of “she burns him with a blast of fire” try “she hurls a fireball his way.”
• Your character isn’t some unstoppable wizard of doom. They’re a student. Magic is hard, exhausting, and sometimes really frustrating. Keep it realistic, murderhobos.
• Don’t out the magical society by flexing on humans or starting a magic battle in the streets.
• You may only cast spells within your school of magic. A necromancer can not do conjuration, a conjurer can not do necromancy.
• Students may only use spells that are level four and below (including cantrips).
• Adults may use spells that are level eight and below.
