It's Autumn in Chicago so the weather is fairly nice. Leaves starting to fall off of the trees with their golden colors painting the sidewalks. It's sorta chilly but with the sun shining it can still be sorta warm in the afternoons, with the temperatures wavering between the high and low 60s. At night it does tend to get a bit colder with it dropping into the mid-50s here and there. Most, if not all, members of the Trouble family have gathered at a local park on Chicago's southside for Lilo's 5th birthday. Plates of barbecue and soda cans litter the tables that sit underneath the gazebo. What little the siblings could gather for party decorations are strung around as the kids play on the playground nearby. Of course, being a public park means that anyone is able to show up so who knows what's in store.

Kris
If there was one person that Kristina Trouble loved more than anyone in the world, it was her niece, Lilo. The now five year old was probably the best thing to ever happen to the Trouble family, and Kris had to give Caydon props. The little girl was beautiful, inside and out. She probably had the best chance to actually make something of herself, aside from Anna. And if Lilo was looking for a role model, Anna was it. Not that Kris would admit that out loud, because then her secret insecurities might actually come out, and that was a no-no.

The Trouble family was currently at the park, getting ready to celebrate little Lilo's 5th birthday. There were some half assed decorations strewn about, though most of it was just litter left over from previous park-goers. In fact, Kris had already seen some definitely not kid appropriate things, though she wasn't about to touch them with a ten foot pole. Instead, she'd just stepped around the items, trying to keep her heeled boots from digging into the dirt.

"I swear to god, this place is disgusting. Why didn't we just have the party at the house again?" Though she hadn't looked up to see who she was talking to, she groaned when she looked up and saw her twin. "Oh, gross, it's you. Pretend I didn't say anything." Already knowing that Kai would have a smartass remark, she crossed her arms and left his side to find someone else to talk to.

She spotted Caydon himself and stopped to watch him for a moment. Then she uncrossed her arms and sauntered over to him, tapping him on the shoulder before sliding around to stand in front of him. "Hey, big bro. Are you-" She didn't get a chance to finish her sentence as another voice, a much smaller and cuter one, sounded from beside them. Kris felt Lilo tugging on her skirt and looked down.

"Auntie Kis, what's this?"

Kris' gaze moved from Lilo's face to her hand, where she was holding something that looked an awful lot like-- oh god. Kris shrieked and automatically smacked the thing from her hand. "No touchie!" Kris scooped her up and away from the awful thing, sharing a glance with Caydon as she started towards the swings. "Do you want to swing, Lilo? Let's go do that."

𝗝𝗨𝗗𝗘 𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗘.

While the eldest Trouble bustled about and entertained guests, occasionally steering Lilo from a minefield of broken glass in the sandpit, his second in command sat hunched at the communal bench. If it weren't for the cigarette burning between Jude's fingers one could easily mistake him for being asleep; he had an elbow propped on the table, his forehead nursed in his palm. He was battling a mild hangover but that had been expected from him as of late; there was obviously something troubling him that he fiercly refused help with. His falling out with Dallas West had him trapped in a limbo of shame and anger, though this is a prison of his own making. He was too stuborn to apologise but too attatched to simply walk away. He coudln't have anyone knowing that he was seeing a male, let alone a West. He's not like that— he's not gay. Jude takes an aggressive drag from his cigarette and tries to focus on anything and anyone else. This had so little to do with his family yet they were the ones copping the brunt of his struggle.

His snapiness and frequent black eyes didn't warrant any sympathy from his siblings so nobody seemed to mind that Jude hadn't moved from the moment they'd arrived at the park. He watched the party through dark shades, languid gaze flicking between those chatting around the barbecue and the idyllic scenery. He found himself drifting off in thought more lately but Lilo easily caught his attention as she bounded across the grass with a spring in her step. Of course she was heading for Kris, an obvious favourite of her aunts and uncles. Jude didn't even get to feel the sting of the thought before he found himself choking on a laugh and a lungful of smoke; Lilo had brought her aunt a used syringe likely found on the ground nearby.

Jude absently flicked his cigarette away as he found himself doubling over, grasping at his burning throat. He coughed the worst of it into his fist and sat up straight, trying not to make a scene. His glasses sat awkwardly past his nose now and he was smiling, one you could see reached his eyes. Jude breathed out a laugh and nudged his glasses back up to his eyes as Kai approached.

"You saw that?" He questioned. Despite his lightened mood, his head still felt heavy. He goraned, folded his arms on the table and slunk down. After a short lived moment of self pity he propped his head up and rested his chin upon his forearms. "Remind me to get her a butterfly knife next year." He mumbled playfully. His head lolled to the side as he scanned the ground for his smoke.

He looked up at Kai. "Hm, can't find my—" he cut himself off abruptly as a glaring orange filter caught his attention. One lodged right in the birthday cake.

"... smoke. Fuck."

tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies
Birthday parties. Great.

Selene wasn't exactly keen on going to a child's birthday party, they all lost their magic once her mom was gone. However, she knew she couldn't get out of attending Lilo's because her older cousin would probably murder her. The park was dirty, full of filth, and probably not a good place for any child to be around. Lilo was running around excitedly with her innocence floating around. Her happiness beamed like the sun and it was a nice thing to see. The redhead couldn't help but feel jealous of the ability to just be happy like that. Ignorance is bliss, she supposed.

"Your jealousy is just steaming off of you." A familiar voice echoed in her ear. Normally Selene would glance back to see who it was, but his voice was immediately recognizable. She sighed back to Charlie, not saying anything as she knew he was only a figment of her imagination. If she weren't in a public place surrounded by nosy eyes, she would've turned on her heel and snapped something sassy to him. But if she did that now, everyone would know she was crazy. Bored, she made her way to her favourite cousin, the only one who knew about Charlie. Jude was mumbling something to her other cousin Kai when she watched him flick a cigarette ember into the cake.

"Good job Judy," Selene commented with a small grin, walking up to the cake and looking at the damage. It was black now, glaring obviously back at Selene's dark grey eyes. "I think it adds some character. Maybe some spice." She noted, giving a shrug and turning back to the two. "Enjoying the grande party?" She asked, gesturing to the trash that was littered about. Normally she wasn't so snarky, but Charlie's comment caught her good. She couldn't help but express the annoyance to others. Hopefully, it would only come off as if she were in a bitchy mood from a period or something.

"You know ashes aren't healthy right? You're seriously going to let a kid eat ash?" Charlie suddenly stood in front of her gesturing to the cake. He stood there tall, with blonde curly hair and warm green eyes. Selene always thought he looked dreamy and would often wish he was actually something real. But nope, just her schizophrenia haunting her. Rolling her eyes seemingly at nothing (but really at Charlie) she returned to the cake and flicked the ash, along with some icing into the grass.

"There you go, no longer ruined." She gave a coy smile, her eyes glancing at Charlie briefly before going back to the people that were real.

"fuck lemons. life better give me limes and tequila."

Despite Katherine's birthday being in June, she was a much bigger fan of the autumn months. No more melting in the summer sun or sweating indoors because the air conditioning decided to give out for the third time that week. Besides, it wasn't like her birthday had ever been a big deal anyway. Unlike her niece, she hadn't been blessed with a father who gave a shit. Sure, Caydon tried his best to make birthdays special for the Trouble's even if it just meant a cupcake or a dollar store card but it wasn't the same. Still, Kat clung to him growing up, especially when her father let her down, time and time again.

For a long time, Katherine wanted to please her asshole of a dad. All she ever wanted was to be a daddy's girl and to win his affection but once she realized he didn't care about her she just gave up. Instead, she got his attention in more defying ways which always led to one of his famous beatings. Kat wasn't afraid of the man. At least, she'd always made it seem that way. No matter how many times he left her body littered with bruises it never could tame her reckless behavior. She was glad that their fucked up childhoods hadn't tainted her oldest brother when it came to being a parent. He was an amazing dad to Lilo despite being so young when she was born.

Kat pushed the invasive thoughts aside and shoved some crinkled up tissue paper into the pink party bag she was reusing for the third year to conceal Lilo's present. She'd gotten the girl some toy from the store that she had been talking about for months. Caydon would probably disapprove of Kat stealing it but she wasn't gonna show up empty-handed to her niece's party. It wasn't like she had much money but she'd be damned if Lilo didn't get all the stuff she could only dream of as a kid. Like birthday parties, actual toys, and decent holidays for one. Being a part of the Trouble clan wasn't a fairytale but it didn't have to be all bad.

"Do you mind grabbing the candles? They are in the drawer next to the fridge. Caydon would probably kill me if I forgot them again," Kat called out to Lily from the top of the stairs. Last year and the year before she'd forgotten to bring something she was asked to which honestly made her wonder why they still trusted her to remember the candles this year but whatever. They were supposed to be at the park half an hour ago but of course, Kat had taken forever to pick an outfit. Luckily the park wasn't too far off so walking it was no problem. "You ready?" she asked Lily as she finally made her way into the living room.

Soon enough they were walking along the sidewalk getting closer to the party. Just as they walked up Jude's cigarette planted itself into the cake. Selene came to the rescue and flicked it off but some of the icings went along. "We can cover it with the candles," she said, holding them up. Pulling out five she arranged them in a way that would cover the bare spot where icing once was and then placed her gift down beside the table. "When are we doing presents? I bet mine is the best one," she teased. She hoped Lilo was happy with it but she was sure it wouldn't top the bike she'd stolen for the girl last year.

Kai
He had been in the middle of blowing up some pitiful balloons that he had "borrowed" from the store. Yes, it was a surprise, but Kairos Trouble had managed to actually successfully steal something. Anything for little Lilo on her birthday, after all, and no birthday was complete without some balloons.

Kai had been attempting to blow yet another one up but alas, his lungs were too strong and yet another one -- again -- popped right in his face and made him almost jump out of his skin. Fucking balloons. Parties were cooler without stupid balloons. Angrily, he tossed the remnants of it onto the ground, adding to the... less than stellar litter that covered the rest of the park. Disgusting, really, and he wondered why they couldn't of just had it at their house or... literally anywhere else. Wal-Mart would've been better than this.

It must've been twin intuition, because Kris started speaking to him and happened to speak exactly what he was thinking. But when Kai opened his mouth to reply, Kris realized who she had been talking to and was quick to walk away and even had the audacity to tell him to act like she hadn't said anything. "Bitch," he grumbled under his breath and started walking towards the table where the cake and Jude were residing. Jude was probably his favorite sibling -- he was like, the only one that didn't make Kai want to burn down a house.

He perked up when Jude started talking to him, a lazy grin finding its way onto his face. "A butterfly knife?" he echoed as he sat down at the table across from Jude. "See I'll have to not remind you so I can be the best uncle." Which, obviously, wasn't going to happen with or without an amazing birthday present like a knife.

Kai's eyebrows crinkled together and he started looking with Jude for where his cigarette had gone when he heard the simple word "fuck." His eyes moved up from the ground to follow Jude's gaze to the cake where he saw the cigarette sticking out. Oh no. "Fuck, Jude. What did you do?" He asked, but barely even had time to panic before Selena and Kat were walking up and fixing it. Oh.

"That kinda looks like shit." He admitted aloud, but it did. The candles were supposed to be spread all over, right? Not focused in one spot to hide a very obvious spot of missing icing -- plus, he was pretty sure there was still some ash on the cake.

𝗝𝗨𝗗𝗘 𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗘.

Jude's momentary panic was extinguished along with the rogue cigarette. His open-mouthed, raised-brow expression hadn't changed as he glanced between Kai, Selene and the smoldering cake. It was a nice cake; was, being key. The feathery pink icing had now been soiled by murk that was really not much worse than the ashy smear that Selene's finger left behind. Jude was relieved to have his ally siblings as witnesses rather than Caydon who'd probably plant his face in it.

The cigarette his the pavement with a dull splat. Jude closed his mouth and his gaze lingered mournfully on the ruins. Crisis... averted...? The table fell quiet for a moment before Selene attempted to spark conversation once more.

"Enjoying the grande party?"

Jude let his silence do the talking, but he appreicated her effort nonetheless. He fixed Selene with a comically pained grimace before thumbing his shades back up his nose and crossing his arms, sinking down so that he was resting on his elbows with his back slouched again. He resembled a boy who'd stayed all night on his Xbox only to be dragged to a Sunday Service by his parents the next morning. "Y'know, I was still gonna' smoke that." He muttered under his breath, seeing that none were particuarly enthused about the topic. While his tone and body language implied he was just being smart, his siblings had seen enough incivility from him to know better.

A smile snuck tempted his lips as he watched Kat try to mend the cake with a few tactfully placed candles. That was like her, always trying her best to pick up the pieces of her family's mess. Her heart was in the right place but she was only defiling the poor cake further. Kai's frank remark caught Jude offguard but such raw bursts of honesty were to be expected from his younger brother. It gave him the excuse he needed to free the laugh sitting in his throat, though a wry snort came instead.

"She's four— she won't give a shit about how her candles are composed." Jude had intended to be lighthearted but his flat mood made this a dubious missfire. Alike Kat, he had some caustic feelings from shitty birthdays in the past that were eating at his spirits.

He eyed the candles now. Counted them. He suddenly noticed a flaw in the composition. "Fuck. Five, she's turning five." He waved a hand as though correcting someone else. It wasn't out of character for him to jumble his siblings birthdays (and that's if he even remembered them...) but he seemed more abstracted than ever. Withdrawing to deal with his own bullshit wasn't only disconnecting him from his family, but his own self. He made a desperate attempt to recover from the awkward mistake but was only digging his grave deeper. "Why stop there? Make it ten, twenty. Kids love fire."

As he spoke, he snatched a handful of candles from the table and stabbed three of them into the cake quite suddenly.

MOOD: still hungover. still an asshole.

"Do you mind grabbing the candles? They are in the drawer next to the fridge. Caydon would probably kill me if I forgot them again."

Lily lifted her eyes from where she was scrolling Instagram, tilting her head back on the arm of the couch to look up the stairs where she heard her best friends voice coming from. "Of course!" She yelled back, her eyes darting back to her phone screen. Wrinkling her nose at the disgusting displays of money on display from the people she knew, she scoffed and exited the application. Locking her phone, she stood from the couch and tossed her phone behind her, letting it fall onto the cushions.

Heading into the kitchen, Lily paused. "Drawer next to the... aha!" She headed for that drawer and tugged on it, remembering after it didn't open that it was the drawer that stuck. "Who made this the junk drawer?" She muttered, turning to her side and pulling with all her might. To her dismay, the drawer opened, but it popped all the way out and spilled its contents all over the floor.

"Well, crap." She found the candles, though. Leaning over to pick them up, she tossed them on the counter as she started collecting the other items, shoving them back into the drawer and setting the drawer on the counter. "Not touching that again." Turning around, she headed back into the living room, having to go right back into the kitchen to get the candles. Making sure she had them now, she headed back into the living room, just as Kat made her appearance.

"Yup!" Holding up the candles, she grabbed her own present for Lilo and they started for the park. When they arrived, Jude's cigarette had planted itself in the cake. Selena scraped it off, then Kat covered the bald spot on the cake with five candles. Shaking her head slightly, Lily placed her present beside Kat's, turning back to face the others. "It does not, Kai." Lily moved to stand by the edge of the table, glancing down at one of the Trouble twins. "I think it looks nice."

Xander
"You said there was a party?" Xander glanced over at Jax as they left his house, walking towards the nearby park. It wasn't a far walk so Xander had decided against taking his car. Not that the whole Southside wasn't shit, but the park was especially loaded with kids being fucktards and if one of them scratched his precious car then they were going to die, and Xander really didn't feel like going to jail today. "Who did you hear this from?" It was also weird to Xander that people would be having a party at the park in the middle of the day, but hey. Free beer was free beer.

They walked the short distance to the park, and Xander glanced up at the scene to check it out as they got closer. At first, he wasn't sure what the fuck he was seeing. But as they got closer, reaching the edge of the park grounds, his hand shot out across Jax's chest, stopping his younger cousin dead in his tracks. "I am going to kill you." Xander muttered, his eyes still scanning the 'party'.

There was a birthday cake, some kid trying to blow up balloons, and presents. With a slow turn of his head, Xander looked down at Jax. "You said party. Did you miss the word 'birthday'?" He had quite a bit of weed in his pockets, as well as some other shit that definitely was not kid appropriate. But when was Xander ever kid appropriate? "Jesus christ, Jax, I swear to god I can't deal with you..."

Annie Trouble attended the party in the park for no other reason than being there for Lilo. While her siblings were doing what they did best; messing up, Annie had distanced herself from them. She had found a clean spot in the grass where she had taken a seat on a small blanket she brought along. It wasn’t very big, but it could fit her and had space for Lilo if she needed it.

For a majority of the time Annie just sat there, sunglasses on and book in hand. The only times she would take her eyes off the book was when Lilo came over. She’d gladly chat and play with the girl until she felt like running of to one of her other uncles and aunts. Other than that Annie looked up when her spider senses were tingling, telling her that her siblings were doing something that they would do.

From her little spot in the grass she could see Kris slap something out of Lilo’s hands, and Annie could once again not believe why they had chosen the druggie park for the party. Not that there were many other places to go without spending an insane amount of money.

She watched as Kai struggled with blowing up balloons, as if it was something hard to do. She watched in disgust as Jude butchered their birthday cake with his smoke. Selene’s attempt to save the cake was cute, but futile. Kat arrived late, shocker, but had surprisingly remembered to bring what she was supposed to. Her attempt to cover up the cake only made it seem even more abused. Jude stabbing even more candles in definitely did not help.

The cake looked far from appetizing, but to a child the looks rarely mattered. Annie just hoped little Lilo wouldn’t eat it and accidentally have ash remains in her mouth.

With a push, Annie rose from her spot and headed for Caydon. She was just about to ask him a question when she saw Xander and Jax approach.

“For fucks sake,” She mumbled to herself. Every second was becoming more and more chaotic, and she regretted not staying at home, at least there she could’ve snuck into Jude’s room to play games. Annie turned her attention back to Caydon, “If you want me to go grab a new cake or some other snacks from the shop, let me know” She offered, wanting nothing more than to throw away the thing that had previously been a perfectly okay cake.

Morgan West

watch me while i bloom

Morgan dusted off her mahogany guitar despite having used it previously the other day. Dust tended to settle rather fast around their poor excuse of a home and so she found herself brushing dust off her instruments quite often. Now, they weren’t anything special, just the rejects that she found in dumpsters behind music stores, but she gave them a new home, and together they made their own sort of magic. She glanced around the room carefully, wondering if any of her siblings were watching. Like usual, they were busy with their own thing, as they should be. Her father was sleeping off another high like usual in the living room, taking advantage of his children who for some reason, still let him stay around.

Their dad did nothing, just drank and did drugs to escape the reality of their life. Morgan understood why, but she knew it was wrong of him. He was supposed to be the adult in their lives, but instead he let himself wither away while her and Dallas took the reign. It was something that Morgan had grown to live with and eventually she became okay with it, but it never could completely kill the utter rage that had grown from it. The only way she could ignore it was through destruction or art, and well, graffiti was a perfect combination of both. However, that being said Dallas wasn’t always appreciative of her artistic efforts when they were illegal so she turned to music instead.

She ended up dropping out of high school, promising her older brother that she had a job, but instead she simply played music in the streets and collected pocket cash from passing strangers, which was why she was dusting off her guitar in the first place. Today was technically her first gig, albeit unpaid, but a gig nonetheless. When she first started playing in the streets, she was mostly ignored by the hustle and bustle of the city, no one’s ears turning to take in the beautiful harmonies from her and her instrument. Then a man and his young daughter came across Morgan and they were seemingly awestruck. Everytime the man would pass by, he’d drop a few coins and thus supplied Morgan with more courage and inspiration to keep going.

Eventually more people would drop a few coins and bills but Morgan always kept the returning man and his daughter in mind as her first fans. Their names were Cayden and Lilo and it was only last week that Cayden had asked Morgan to play for Lilo’s fifth birthday. Morgan felt absolutely honoured and expressed to him that he needn’t to pay for it, as she was sure the exposure would be good enough. Besides, she wanted to play music for Lilo as a gift.

Picking up her guitar and slinging it over her shoulder, she slipped a crumpled paper out of the pocket of ripped jeans and squinted her blue eyes at the address. The party was being held at a park that wasn’t exactly known for its sights. Oh well, it wasn’t like Morgan lived anywhere better.

As she made her way to the park, her nerves began to spark up as they normally would before she played. Thoughts of self doubt and wondering if she might mess up boiled in her mind, but she shoved them down with a deep breath… however these thoughts would only rise over as she entered the park and her eyes gazed upon familiar people; Troubles.

“Are you fucking kidding me.” She grumbled under her breath, slowly making her way into the park, looking around for Cayden. She had no idea he was even associated with the Troubles, and now she was there to play music for them? As she glanced around, her eyes caught sight of another familiar person: Jax. Her breath hitched in her throat and she cursed again under her breath. She hadn’t spoken to him since high school and with good reason. Next to him was infamous Xander, whom she often flirted with when she visited Ryan at his job. Quirking her eyebrow at the sight of the two, she turned still looking for Cayden.

After seeing just about every Trouble there was to name, she finally spotted him and made her way over quickly.

“Uh hey, I didn’t know you were with the Troubles.” She greeted him with a small bit of laughter, hoping to understand her situation more. “When do you want me to start playing? I can take requests from Lilo herself if you want.” She suggested, suddenly wanting to just get the party done and over with. As much as she appreciated Cayden and Lilo, she knew the Troubles would not want her there long, if at all.

Kai
Well kids did love fire. Kai knew all about that being, you know, quite the connoisseur of fire. However, even he thought the amount of candles might be a bit much, but the worry only lasted for a fleeting instant before being replaced by a broad smile. Who was he kidding? All those candles would be fun to light, although he wondered if Lilo would even be able to muster enough air in her little lungs to blow them all out.

He glanced over at Lily as she spoke and rolled his eyes. "It looks okay. But it looked better before someone used it as an ash tray." Kai added with a pointed glance at Jude, although he kept a teasing smile pasted on his face. It wasn't like he was actually mad at his brother, mainly because Kai really could care less if part of her cake was ruined. He wasn't even a huge fan of cake and it wasn't like she would remember this party... right? Did kids her age remember things like this?

Speaking of cakes, fire, and ash trays, was it time to light the cake yet? Did they need to sing that stupid, copyrighted song? Kai had a feeling that he knew the answers to those, but he also wasn't interested in waiting around. He was eager to get the birthday party actually started and, well, Kai was also bored. So very, very bored and Kris was too busy screaming about the gross stuff around the party to actually let him mess with her, so Kai was left lost and, well, bored. Did he mention he was bored?

His hand slipped into the pocket of his torn jeans and he presented his lighter of choice for the day. An iridescent shimmer colored the cool metal surface with a little metal unicorn sketched into the side. Okay, look, Kai hadn't chosen said lighter necessarily but had stolen it from somewhere at some time. And it would be cruel to let this lighter chill in his underwear drawer and never get to see the light of day. Plus, when this one probably inevitably got confiscated, at least Kai wouldn't be upset.

His fingers moved with expert precision, popping off the top of the lighter and then his thumb rolled against the striker once, twice, and by the third roll a little flame burst to life. "Let's get the cake part over with before we make it worse." Kai suggested, although he didn't bring the little flame close to the candles quite yet. He was definitely waiting for some kind of permission. Loser.

What the hell was he thinking?

Caydon glanced around the park. His siblings all scattered around and making this birthday one for remembering. All he wanted was a normal birthday for Lilo, and does he get that. Nope, he was trouble and normally doesn't even go in his vocab. First, his daughter, the most innocent of all of them, finds a goddamn used needle. Luckily Kris knocks it right out of her hands but Jesus, a fucking used ass needle. Why did he decide to have a party in the park? Oh, why oh why? He's a fucking dumbass, he thinks as he facepalms himself as he tries to make it seem a bit more like a party. He hears Jude said fuck and looked at him and then at the cake and groans.

"I swear to go, Jude! That better not be a goddamn cig in my baby's cake. " He mutters as he looks at the cake which is most definitely not supposed to be smoking. But it is. Kat then comes with the candles and tries to make it better but...it just made it worse. He sighed as he looked at his baby girl, playing with her favourite aunt but not really as she cares for all of them equally. "Guys...just leave it...JUDE! Kids do not like fire. That is literally just Kai, and Kai is trouble." He says glaring at Kai, whom he can see eyes lighting up at the thought of setting something on fire. He doesn't know how many fires he had to pull him away from, ever since he discovered the goddamn element. "Don't you even think about it, Kai. "

Annie came around and tried to help, and he smiled at her. "Yea could you? I got some cash on me. Take someone with you though. Kai...would be the best since he's seconds away from lighting something on fire. " He sighed and handled Annie the cash, and then Morgan came up, and he nods softly. "I honestly thought you knew, I'm the oldest of the trouble, Caydon Trouble. ' He then looked at her and thought for a moment. Why was she so jumpy? Either she was a west or she was nervous and she never gets nervous. Shit, she was a goddamn west. How he didn't even connect the two, he would never know. "You must be a west or at least know by them. If any of my siblings mess with you, you come to me. I'm not one to judge you based on your people. As long as you don't judge me based on mine?" He says holding his hand out to her.

"fuck lemons. life better give me limes and tequila."

Kat’s attempt to fix the disaster of a cake was bad enough without Kai commenting on it. But of course, in true Kai fashion, he did just that. Kat turned to look at him, rolling her eyes as she did. “Shut up, Kai. Like you could’ve done a better job!” she snapped back, coming off more snarky than bitchy. Of course, then Jude got the idea to help and was stalking over, shoving even more candles into the cake. “Jesus! Jude!” she griped, swatting his hand away. If it didn’t look shitty before, it did now. “Yeah. Good job fucking up the cake,” she agreed with Kai, a teasing smirk appearing as she glanced at Jude once again.

Caydon was clearly displeased with his siblings because he came over and started yelling at them about the cake. “Hey, I tried fixing it. Besides, my job was to bring the candles which I did,” she shrugged. Her eyes scanned the park for something more interesting rather than her insane siblings but no luck. “Please, we don’t need a repeat of Kai’s eleventh birthday. Remember when he lit that kids' hair on fire? Bobby something or other,” she laughed a little at the thought. Sure, it was funny to her but the parents didn’t find it so amusing and neither did the cops.

Before she could say much else a familiar face came into view and walked right up to...Caydon? What the hell. "Morgan West. Always nice to see you," the words came out very sarcastically, of course. She and Morgan had a history of going at each other's throats. As a matter of fact, their hatred for one another stemmed directly from Kat's feud with Morgan's sister, Rat. "You guys are friends now or what? So much for sibling loyalty," she muttered. Not that she expected him to hate all Wests but at least the ones who hated her. Was that too much to ask?

"why follow the rules when breaking them is more fun?"
Jax ran a hand through his chocolatey, brown hair as he walked down the sidewalk with his cousin, Xander. He'd gotten off the phone with Selene earlier who had said she was attending some party and told Jax he could come if he wanted. Of course, he was all in for a party even if the location seemed a little weird. Who would throw a party at the park mid-afternoon? Whatever. He'd been to weirder ones so it wasn't that off the wall. Besides, all he wanted to do was drink and flirt with some babes. Maybe he and Selene would even have a little fun...again.

As they neared the park though, Xander suddenly threw out his arm and they came to a halt. "What man?" Jax questioned, looking to the ground for something his cousin might've dropped. Then he heard the words and looked up. Damn it. A birthday party? This was a child's birthday party. Shit. "Well, they have cake! What are we gonna do now? We are already here," he said throwing up his hand. Whoops. He'd forgotten about the six-pack in his left hand up until now. "And we brought beer..." he added with a nervous laugh.

Yeah. Xander definitely wanted to kill him. "Come on," he urged, walking closer to the party area and noticing Morgan. Maybe this wasn't sure a great idea after all. Morgan had been one of his closest friends in school but when she just dropped off the face of the earth and cut him off it stung a little. He had no intention on letting her see that now though. "Selene! Hope you like beer," he said, dropping the six-pack on the table. "I may have missed the part where this was your niece's birthday party..." he shrugged a little.

Who had a party at the park in the middle of the day? Like really? I mean there were definitely weirder and worse places to have a party, but the playground? It didn't make sense to Ryan, but Jax had really wanted him to come, so fuck it. He managed to grab a bottle of tequila and even a smaller one of vodka, gotten off work early, and headed in that direction. He had the liquor in his bookbag, which was currently bouncing on his back as he walked. He'd already sent a text to Jax, and another one to Xander, saying he was coming. Neither had answered, but whatever. He was almost there.

Rounding a corner, he spotted the park in the distance. Two seconds later, he saw Jax and Xander as well, and smirked. Nodding in their direction, he walked towards them, lifting a brow as he saw Xander's hand shoot out and stop Jax in his tracks. The younger one looked down, like he'd dropped something, but Xander's eyes weren't on the ground. They were on the park and the crowd gathered there. "What's going on?" Ryan got close enough that they could hear him, and then he turned to look at the park. Balloons were the first thing he noticed, followed by a cake. And presents. It took him about two seconds to realize what he was looking at.

Turning to Jax, he clasped the man on the shoulder, gripping it tightly as he fought the urge to punch him. "Why didn't you say birthday party?" He asked, straining to keep from hitting him and laugh while doing it. Turning back around, Ryan actually started to look at the crowd, and his eyes stopped dead on a familiar brunette. "You didn't. Jax, dear god, you didn't invite us to a Trouble birthday party! I swear to god, man." Releasing Jax's shoulder with a slight shove, he heaved a sigh and then looked at Xander. "Well, fuck it. I'm going in."

He started walking on the grass towards the small crowd at the table. Lily was the first to notice him, and she nearly smacked Kat on the arm to get her attention. Ryan grinned at the blonde, sending her a wink as he moved to stand beside Kat, slinging an arm over her shoulders. "Well, if it isn't my best friend." Making her uncomfortable or uneasy in front of her family, who didn't know they were hooking up? Priceless. "How's everyone doing this fine day?"

Initially Annie was glad that Caydon said yes, but she could hear the "but" coming long before he gave her the conditions. Of course she had to babysit the family member "most likely to make them homeless," at least it was better than the one "most likely to go to jail." As she always did when things didn't go as planned, Annie let out a sigh, not even trying to hide the annoyance that came with having to bring Kai along. Not that she would complain or refuse it, instead she just hoped he would.

She snatched the cash Caydon had offered, glad she didn't have to use from the little pocket money she had. She was about to ask him what cake he wanted her to buy, only to realize he had already turned his attention to someone else. That someone else was a girl that Annie couldn't quite put a name to, but that she had definitely seen around somewhere, maybe a West?

Annie turned her attention to Kai. The family's very own pyromaniac, who on multiple occasions had put her books on fire, not to mention the time he burnt the assignment she had worked on for two whole weeks. "You coming? Or are you burning down the park?" She questioned. Thought she feared she had given him an idea, she didn't bother sticking around for the answer.

She strutted off to where she had left her little bag and picked it up, making sure everything was where it was supposed to be. Not that she didn't trust her family... Okay she didn't, not at all. If the book in her bag was stolen, torn, burnt or destroyed in any other way it would be her last strike with the library, and they would no longer allow her to rent books from there. And being a Trouble they would never believe whatever insane "story" she would tell them.

By the time Annie was ready to head off, another person had arrived. Another person that Annie distantly remembered could be a West, but honestly her interest in such an obnoxiously obvious playboy was very low. She did however note to herself how he walked right up to the sibling "most likely to get knocked up first," acting all buddy buddy with her. Annie knew that if he really was a West, it wouldn't exactly please Caydon, or any of their siblings really. Then again Annie knew there was no way Kat would get herself involved with a West after the having been long time best friends with one.

Kai
Kai had come here for a party and a good time, not to be judged for his love of fire.

"You catch a kid on fire one time and that's all anyone talks about..." Kai grumbled, but het let the flame go out on his lighter all the same and slid it back into his pocket. Later he promised the lighter in his mind. Obviously he couldn't promise that aloud -- his family obviously knew him far too well and were just waiting for him to do something stupid.

"Bobby deserved it and I'd set his hair on fire again!" He added and a pointed a finger at Kat as he did. "That guy pushed me into a locker and stole my backpack." Stupid Bobby. He looked better without hair, too. Honestly, everyone should be thanking Kai for setting his hair on fire! He'd really done that kid a favor, alright.

Still, Kai hopped up from the bench to go with Annie. "Since everyone is so wrongfully worried about me setting stuff on fire, I'll go with Annie." He said, shooting a glare at Caydon and Kat.

Bold of them to assume that sending him away would keep things from being caught on fire. Not that, you know, Kai was on his way to start catching things on fire or anything. No, no, that wasn't any fun when everyone was expecting. Plus he liked fire but it's not like he enjoyed just going around setting random things on fire.

"I'm coming, I'm coming," he said as he hurried to catch up with Annie as she started to leave without him. Ugh. How inconsiderate. "Can I pick out the cake? I'm thinking... dinosaurs."

Selene’s eyes lit up as Jax came into view, placing down a six-pack of beer. She wasn’t a fan of alcohol, which was seemingly ironic as she worked as a bartender, but it was easier to give it away than to drink it herself. Instead, she’d prefer to smoke a blunt and let the smoke envelop her in a calming manner. It was so much better than stumbling around and making mistakes you wouldn’t normally.

“Did I not mention it? Thought I did.” She shrugged, glancing around. Everyone seemed to be having a mediocre time and some chick with a guitar had just arrived. “Beer’s not my thing.” She shrugged, throwing back her ginger hair as the wind played around with it.

Charlie had seemingly disappeared as he always did when it was important to. He’d only creep on her when she was by herself and the creeping memories of the past were settling in. He was weird like that, and she assumed it had to do something with her brain. He wasn’t real after all, he wasn’t real like the screams she would occasionally hear at night before she went to sleep. They were jarring when they first happened, but as long as she warned herself they weren’t real, they left her unbothered usually.

Selene didn’t think Jax would come, having only mentioned it while the two were having a weed session. In fact, she was surprised he even remembered the date and place and brought people along with him. If only he had remembered it was a birthday party… for a kid.

“So who’s your friend?” She gestured to Xander, having never met him. “We could always head somewhere else afterwards, always some sort of party going on in this city.” She offered, knowing that some kids birthday party was not her idea, nor theirs, of fun. Her eyes narrowed as she noticed that he had brought along a familiar blonde. “You brought a West as well? That’s risky.” Selene didn’t care much for names or rivalries. Honestly, there wasn’t enough time in the world to care about that shit, but she knew her cousins often cared too much, and well, her loyalty had to lie somewhere. She looked over to Jax knowingly, as he was well aware of the rivalry between the two families. She had mentioned the stress of it whenever the two would chill together, so what had he been thinking when he decided to invite one over?

“You’re not a West are you?” She frowned, looking back to Xander. “I don’t personally care, just gauging how much of a fight is going to happen here.” She added, not wanting to exactly to offend him. While Selene was a rather vindictive person, she didn’t start her own fights. She simply finished them and she was still in the midst of finishing her first.

Morgan’s eyes couldn’t help but widen as she heard Caydon tell her he was the eldest Trouble. Despite his promises of keeping her safe from his other siblings, she knew there was nothing that could be done. She was essentially fucked and she knew damn well as soon as Katherine Trouble walked by with a greeting.

“You as well Katherine...” Morgan greeted back, her voice filled with venom. Kat had been the ex-best friend of Morgan’s younger sister Diane and had relentlessly bullied her and caused her to tears. It didn’t matter that her older brother was like an angel, she was a demon and Morgan was going to treat her like dirt.

“I really appreciate it Caydon,” Morgan started as she turned back towards him before glancing back to the park and giving a double-take. There were three very familiar figures making their way into the park: her younger brother, Ryan, Xander, the guy she liked, and Jax, her ex-friend who she completely disappeared on. Her heart immediately sank. She COULDN’T play here. For starters, Ryan would definitely snitch on her to elder brother who controlled the household, secondly, she would not play in front of Xan, that would be embarrassing if she messed up and she was sure he would not let her live it down, and lastly, she hadn’t seen Jax in a few years, nevermind spoken to him since. He would definitely have several questions on what happened.

Before she could utter out an excuse and make her getaway, she watched as Ryan marched his way over to Kat and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, romantically.

“Oh, you have to be fucking kidding me.” She muttered out loud, tempted to march over and slam her guitar into his face and then Kat’s. He and Kat were fucking? They were in a relationship? Her blood was boiling; Ryan knew how toxic Kat was to Diane and yet here he was, hugging her.

She turned back to Caydon, anger clearly displayed on her face. “I, ah, don’t know if this is a great time…” She started, glancing back at her brother angrily. “It might be better to just take Lilo to my usual spot and I can play something special for her… and avoid something bad happening.” Her tone was filled with warning, hoping Caydon would understand. It was terrible to cancel on him, but she could not have Ryan find out that she didn’t have a job, and she couldn’t also not hit him in the face with her guitar.

There was also the issue of Jax. She knew if he saw her, he wouldn’t let her getaway, and if he caught her then Ryan would notice and so would Xander. It was just a bad idea. One big bad idea.

“What’s the time?” A lazy drag of a voice cut through the air as the pile of white sheets moved and a red head peeked from under it. Lydia was having her own great time, not even aware she was already late for the party. Her own plans interfered though she really wanted to make appearance there. Lilo was her precious niece and possibly the nicest Trouble of them all.

“I think we can do one more round.” Another voice sounded from the same place as Lydia’s hand was searching for her phone. When she noticed the real time, she literally jumped up, throwing the comforter away.

“Nah, I gotta run. I’m already late. And it’s my niece’s fucking birthday party and I wanna be there, okay?” she breathed, putting her clothes on in a hurry. “Did you get me that thing I asked you for?”

The dark-haired man just sighed and leaned against the headboard of the bed, motioning his head towards the dresser. A colorful, fancy-wrapped gift with a big pink bow was sitting there, ready to be grabbed. Lydia smirked and blew a kiss at her lover, thanking him at least million times. Well, she had been working on her thanks for past three hours as well but one more couldn’t hurt. Slipping into her sandals, she turned at the man again, agreeing to meet again soon, grabbed the box and slipped out of the shitty apartment. Not that she judged. She was not exactly from the money either.

Reaching in her pockets, a shit eating smirk appeared on her face and remained plastered there until she managed to grab a cab. The guy she was with…ugh what was his name? Mark…no, too common. Marvin? Ugh, god no. M-m…Matthew? Matthias? Oh, whatever, the point was, he always had a few bills just lying around somewhere and as fate would have it, a nice pretty twenty dollar bill was waiting for Lydia by the gift box. Of course, it was not for her. But since it was just lying there, who was she to say no? At least now she could get a cab and not be horribly late for the birthday party.

It didn’t take long for her to get out of the car at the park. She handed the driver the money, saying to keep the change and actually pretended like this was some spare change for her. Like she could afford to leave money everywhere she went. As if! But she arrived and that was what was important to her. And she even had a gift for little Lilo. Maybe Lydia wasn’t the favorite aunt but no one could say she didn’t love that little girl. Having the childhood she did, Lydia simply wanted Lilo to be better off. To simply enjoy her kid days fully and not have to worry about things she didn’t have.

Lydia spend her early years in tears, hoping that one day things would change. But it never happened. The only thing that really came was even more violent abuse from her father who always carried a heavy hand. The man never made differences between his kids. He treated them equally. Beat them equally. No one was ever a hit or a slap short. Boy or girl. But in her book, that made Lydia much stronger.

Strutting like she owned the park, she approached the gazebo and wrinkled her nose, looking around the litter infested ground. “Now this is just the place for a party I have to say. Hi, fam!” she grinned, making her entrance. Her gaze fell upon the cake and that made her wince. “What the fuck happened to that?” she motioned her head towards it and looked around only to see her least favorite person in the world with his arm draped around Kat’s shoulders. Ryan was literally the last person Lydia was in mood for today. Or ever. Not after he…ugh, water under the bridge, right? Or not…

“Aww…look what the Kat dragged in.” she batted her eyelashes with fake sweetness in her voice. “No offence, sis.” Lydia sent a wink at Kat, not entirely sure what was going on in here. “Anyway, I see I’m just in time to light the candles. Can I do that or does anyone else wants the honor?”

The text came way too late for Drew to get to the park on time. What even was this idea? Party? At the park? During the day? It was definitely something unconventional and Drew had no idea what that was about. Xander’s text came some while ago and he was just finishing his shift. It might have been way too early to be done with work but considering that Drew never left last night, it was nothing weird. He had been working for more than twelve hours at that point and he was getting tired. For last three hours, he was sitting in the storage room and counting bottles. But since Xan told him about the party, Drew did his own count and set two bottles a the actually good whiskey aside. The owner was not good with keeping track of stuff and that’s why he always let Drew do it. And Drew always did it his way.

It was only a while after he locked the storage room that he went to change and tucked the bottles in his backpack. It was gonna be totally awkward, showing up at the party with that thing. But it was a fucking short notice and he was going straight from work! So he really wanted to see the person who was gonna make fun of it. At least he had a place to hide the whiskey.

“I’m leaving, Liam!” he called out at the other bartender who was setting up for his shift at the bar. Drew sent him a lazy two-finger salute and the man waved at him just as Drew opened the door. The air was cool, the fall was definitely in the air and summer was truly gone. Drew put his beanie on, covering his messy hair so the breeze wouldn’t make him look like he had a complete bird’s nest on his head. It was actually one thing he was extremely sensitive about. His hair. Not that he would ever admit it but he took his sweet time every morning to get that right amount of messy. Not too much, but not too little.

It took him approximately twenty-minute walk to reach the park. The distance was truly not worthy of a cab so he just walked. Boys were nowhere to be seen around the entrance so Drew just assumed they were already in. Yet, he shot a text to Xander. Just in case.

“I’m here. Coming to find you.”

Not that the park was too small but there was this one place where Drew could imagine a party to be thrown. A small gazebo was an ideal place for that. Tucking his hands deep in the pockets of his jeans, Drew was slowly dragging his feet towards the place and from the distance he already knew he was right. Only one thing seemed odd. What the fuck was…were those…kids? Or what? Suddenly the two bottles in his backpack became much heavier and Drew narrowed his eyes. What kind of bullshit was that?

He spotted Xander immediately. The guy couldn’t have been missed. Hulk of a guy covered in tattoos. That could only be him. At least Drew was a good actor in such situations so when he approached the group, he stepped right in between Xan and Jax, clapping their backs. “What are we celebrating, gentlemen?” he called out in his cheerful voice and looked around, casting every person a short look. Ryan was already by Kat’s side. Oh so unexpected. But Drew did shoot Lily a longer look than to anyone else. She was his favorite drinking buddy after all. But this whole thing still seemed like it was not really appropriate event for whiskey. And then it hit him. It was a fucking birthday party. For a kid.

"fuck lemons. life better give me limes and tequila."

Kat knew that Caydon was familiar with the relationship she had with Diane West but it seemed he had no idea Morgan was the girl's sister until now. The pair had actually been best friends once, a bond tighter than she'd had with anyone else apart from Lily. It wasn't that Kat had meant for that to end but life happens, right? In Kat's eyes, they just grew in different directions but deep down even she knew that she'd ditched Rat for a cooler crowd. For a while, they just didn't speak but eventually, they ended up in a screaming match and it just spiraled. Now they threw out petty comments, insults and sometimes things got damn close to being physical. Kat actually didn't have any beef with Morgan outside the fact that she always got in the middle of the catfights, it annoyed her.

She was about to speak up again when she felt Lily smack her to get her attention but it was too late. His arm was slipping around her shoulder and she didn't even have to look to see who it was. Ryan fucking West. Just as she was throwing around comments about loyalty here came the reason she couldn't say shit. "You're timing is impeccable," she said sarcastically with a roll of her eyes. Why did he insist on stirring the pot as soon as he walked up? It wasn't that she cared much but it was a little weird since Caydon, the sibling she was closest to had no clue she and Ryan were even hanging out, much less hooking up. Ryan seemed to enjoy making it obvious though. She didn't know if it was to screw with her, someone else or simply because he could.

“What are you doing here anyway, Ry?” she questioned, a smirk still on her face as she moved his arm off her shoulders. She didn’t need anyone questioning them being cozied up. Being casual was one thing, her siblings finding out they were screwing well, that could be a mess. Especially if they found out she had missed a period. She could only hope that was a fluke because being pregnant was not on her bucket list. Not to mention how everyone would react to her having gotten knocked up by a damn West. Nevertheless, she knew if she was knocked up that it was Ryan’s. Kat had only been with him in the past few months because while she might’ve been wild but she wasn’t stupid. Catching an STD was not up her alley.

Her eyes flickered over to Lydia as she waltzed up and made a rather clever remark. Katherine was well aware of the history between Ryan and her sister but in her opinion, it wasn't that big of a deal. They flirted around, it wasn't anything serious and that was that. Right? "I think Caydon just sent Kai and Annie to get a new cake. Apparently we ruined this one too much," she shrugged. She hadn't even noticed everyone else who had popped up until she turned to motion to the disaster cake. Xander, Jax, and now Drew. They had all shown up and she had no doubt they'd brought along liquor. Just what she needed and couldn't have. Great. "I see you brought your friends too," she added, her eyes traveling from them back to Ryan.

Distracting Lilo from the used syringe she'd found and picked up was easy. What little girl didn't love to swing? And Kris had taught her how to do it, but still, Lilo wanted her to push. And when your favorite little niece asked you to push her on the swings, you couldn't say no. So Kris took Lilo to the swings and set her on one, moving behind her to start pushing. Kris was not the motherly type at all, that much was blatantly obvious. But she could handle pushing her on the swings. When it came to the rest of it? Not so much. Thank god the girl had grown out of diapers.

While Kris pushed Lilo, her eyes darted up and around the park a few times, just keeping tabs on what was going on. At first, nothing of interest happened. Or at least nothing out of the ordinary. Kai was playing with a lighter, the other family members were slowly but surely showing up. Kris may have been a shit sometimes, but at least she'd been on time. Lilo was important to her. And that wasn't to say she wasn't important to others, Kris just had an enhanced ego. All the time.

Something was going on with the cake, though the swings were too far away for Kris to actually hear everything or figure it out. Shrugging, she just kept pushing the giggling four year old, and a slight smile appeared on her face. There was nothing like the laughter of children, really. As long as they weren't hers. The 16 year old knew better than to get pregnant, and besides. It was more fun to be a tease. Why give her body away so easily when she could get a better reward if she made someone work for it?

When Lilo got tired of the swings, Kris snagged her off of it and carried her like a baby towards the table and the ruined cake that everyone was now standing around. "Jesus christ, you guys, really?" Kris took one look at the ruined cake and rolled her eyes, setting Lilo down on the ground. "Go play on the playset, Lilo. And no more syringes, I swear to god." The four year old scurried off to play on the slides, and Kris watched her for a moment before looking back at the table.

"I love the effort to fix it." She stated, the sarcasm in her voice evident. Looking back up, she saw Kat disentangle herself from Ryan West, and one of Kris' perfect eyebrows raised up. "What's this loser doing here, Kat?" Were they fucking? Really? Wouldn't Caydon and the others just love that. Kat didn't always make the brightest decisions, though, poor girl. Looking past Ryan, she noticed the other three guys and rolled her eyes. "Really? Who invited them?"

Although this party at the park was not what any of the guys had expected, finding Kat Trouble there was just the icing on the cake... literally. He couldn't help but smirk as he walked up to her, leaving his friends in the dust as he finally reached her and threw an arm around her shoulders. She was the one who wanted to keep their hookups a secret; he couldn't personally care less. It wasn't anyones business who he was fucking, but if someone were to know, it wouldn't be the end of the world, right? He turned his head towards her and shot her a wink, his grin only growing at her first statement.

"Isn't it always?" He tilted his head to the side, his eyes traveling down her body and then right back up. She slipped out from under his arms as she asked what he was doing there, and he finally glanced over at the other guys as they made their way towards the table too. "Jax invited me." He shrugged, leaning on the table, flashing a grin at Lily. "Looking lovely, as always, Lily." He slid onto the seat next to her as she gave him an awkward wave, flashing a look towards Kat.

Ryan looked at the cake in front of him, namely the candles all shoved haphazardly into one spot. "Who ruined the cake? I was kinda looking forward to that the most." He frowned, though it was obviously not a real one. Lydia appeared then, making a pun that actually made Ryan laugh, despite the fact that the negative part of her sentence was directed to and about him. "Nice to see you too, Lyd. As always."

Glancing past the cake, he spotted Kristina Trouble walking over with a kid in her arms. "Someone procreated with you?" He blurted, causing Lily to smack him upside the head. "Ow, damn!" He shot her an annoyed look, pushing himself up from the table and away from her. "It was just a question. He actually didn't know Kris that well, but he did know some and that was enough for him.
