Anime & Manga Anime Suggestions.... What do you recommend?

The Silent Z

Just Here
Hello Folks,

It’s been sometime since my last anime that I continued til the end or kept up with to any real worth mentioning extent. However now days I’m a bit out of touch and want to dive back into a series like I once did, I’ve heard about a few current (I think current options?) out there and some newer ones in general. Here’s a few I’ve come to ponder checking out after talking with some folks on here about them and some I got from a YouTuber I started watching that got me curious about it....

Ones I’m considering:
Jo Jo’s Bizarre Adventure
My Hero Academia/BNHA
One Punch Man

Ones I know to some extent & considering checking out further:
One Piece
Bleach
FMA
Zoids (Maybe & for nostalgia’s sake)

Ones I know and finished or still somewhat know what’s going on currently:
Naruto
Yugioh
Pokémon
Dragon Ball Z
Conan the Kid Detective (feel like I’m remembering the name wrong

I could mention others in the second category but names escape me at the moment. Open to suggestions both mainstream and lesser known but quality choices out there, whether it’s Tv or reading the chapters or both. ^^

Thanks!
Toast

Which one? The one from 2003 or Brotherhood?
Probably both. I recall once upon a time a lot of FMA talk around another forum and maybe this one too, so considering seeing what it’s all about, seems like I heard more about brotherhood then anything though.

FMA Brotherhood is much better than the original, imo. If you're going to watch both, watch the original first!

It seems you enjoy Shounen anime! I can recommend a few for you! Synopses come from MyAnimeList

With their help, she endeavors to not only take back her kingdom from the Holy Knights, but to also seek justice in an unjust world.

Oberan Oberan pretty much covered most of the bases for shounen series. I'd also recommend Sword Art Online now as well because while years ago it was meme'd to hell and back for being bland, Alicization to me has kind of redeemed the series. And I dont want to spoil anything so I'll leave it at that, so yeah awesome show even through the worst bits of its early days.

Also not on there is Fire Force which is made by the creator of Soul Eater and produced by the same studio as Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. This show is a work of fricking art. The story and characters can be kind of rough at times but damn theres nothing that really beats its animation, style, and sound design (get some good headphones with quality bass and you'll immediately understand). Tbh if Demon Slayer didn't just come out the season before it aired I would've easily called this the best anime of 2019. Like this clip alone is just a sample of the genuine quality of the show.

Theres also the plethora of Isekai (Parallel World) anime to choose from. Though its a kind of a worn out trope theres still some gems like Konosuba, Re:Zero, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Overlord.

And if you really cant find anything and have a Netflix sub. Just go on Netflix's anime section. No seriously. For the most part all the series currently on Netflix are all solid and you can watch them in subs or dubs.

TPBx TPBx

Thanks! Fire Force is great, isn't it! I can't believe I forgot it! I tend to overlook the new ones because I'm late to the trends haha!

Overlord is my all time favorite isekai anime! It's very much R rated though so go in knowing that! (I've watched it three times all the way through on Hulu. sigh Still waiting on the newest season.) Another good one is Log Horizon which is FINALLY getting another season after YEARS of waiting!

There are also a plethora of sports-based shounen, which I didn't mention. (Kuroko no Basket, Haikyuu!!, Air Gear, Hajime no Ippo, and one of my personal favorites Aoharu x Kikanjuu.)

FMA Brotherhood is much better than the original, imo. If you're going to watch both, watch the original first!

It seems you enjoy Shounen anime! I can recommend a few for you! Synopses come from MyAnimeList

With the promise of granting any wish, the omnipotent Holy Grail triggered three wars in the past, each too cruel and fierce to leave a victor. In spite of that, the wealthy Einzbern family is confident that the Fourth Holy Grail War will be different; namely, with a vessel of the Holy Grail now in their grasp. Accompanied by his own familiar, Saber, the notorious mercenary soon finds his greatest opponent in Kirei Kotomine, a priest who seeks salvation from the emptiness within himself in pursuit of Kiritsugu.

Based on the light novel written by Gen Urobuchi, Fate/Zero depicts the events of the Fourth Holy Grail War—10 years prior to Fate/stay night. Witness a battle royale in which no one is guaranteed to survive.

What makes these giants truly terrifying is that their taste for human flesh is not born out of hunger but what appears to be out of pleasure. To ensure their survival, the remnants of humanity began living within defensive barriers, resulting in one hundred years without a single titan encounter. However, that fragile calm is soon shattered when a colossal titan manages to breach the supposedly impregnable outer wall, reigniting the fight for survival against the man-eating abominations.

After witnessing a horrific personal loss at the hands of the invading creatures, Eren Yeager dedicates his life to their eradication by enlisting into the Survey Corps, an elite military unit that combats the merciless humanoids outside the protection of the walls. They were defeated by the Holy Knights, but rumors continued to persist that these legendary knights, called the "Seven Deadly Sins," were still alive. Ten years later, the Holy Knights themselves staged a coup d’état, and thus became the new, tyrannical rulers of the Kingdom of Liones.

Based on the best-selling manga series of the same name, Nanatsu no Taizai follows the adventures of Elizabeth, the third princess of the Kingdom of Liones, and her search for the Seven Deadly Sins. With their help, she endeavors to not only take back her kingdom from the Holy Knights, but to also seek justice in an unjust world.
Much appreciated! A lot of familiar names here that I forgot about, but definitely recall seeing them before (Like brief mentions or clips or appearing on the old TV guide on cable) It will take some time but I’ll check those suggestions more over time.

Just started Jo Jo’s Bizarre adventure yesterday

Much appreciated here as well! But another nice list of suggestions and it is appreciated. Been out of the anime watching/reading scene for the most part and it’s been awhile so having all these options and a lot of names I didn’t know about is awesome.

I do have Netflix along with Hulu, so between the two hopefully I can get a good amount of options to watch in full or least in order for what they do have.

I absolutely agree regarding FMA. Watch Brotherhood. It follows the story of the original manga closely and is REALLY GOOD. The dubbing is also really well acted.
The 2003 one was shite. (Tonally wrong, deviated from the author's original story.) Also it is not "the original" and sorry but calling it that drives me batshit. The original was the manga. You could call 2003 the first anime, but it isn't the origin of the story, therefore not the original. /rant

I'm not sure I want to recommend the Bleach anime, because I didn't like it, but I'm a big fan of the Bleach manga, so if you only want to watch anime rather than read, it is worth checking out. Please don't watch the dub though.

Your Name and A Silent Voice are really great anime movies on Netflix. They are quite slice-of-lifey, especially Silent Voice. Your Name has some minor fantasy elements in it.

Also I'm going to recommend Boruto again. Strangely better than you would think. :D

I'll always recommend Darling in The FranXX and it's one of the only "recent" animes that I've watched. The synposis is a little confusing to explain, but the general idea is that children are separated from adults in a dystopian society where they are essentially indoctrinated into acting as pilots for mechas that fight an unknown species of monsters known as Klaxosaurs. If you're more into slice of life, however, then I definitely recommend checking out Honey & Clover or Anohana instead.

Learning more about FMA then I ever thought without having read or watched it yet. Haha. between all I’ve seen from folks in here.

I say Anime but I’ll accept Manga as well, I just figured Anime would be acceptable for the intentions of the thread. I recall feeling similar about another series years ago though, the manga just seemed better then the anime for that particular series.

But much appreciated on the suggestions! Nice to get pointed in worth while directions.

Haha I will! Slowly getting into checking out more then clips of Boruto! I just wish Anko and a few other characters would have been given more then I am seeing so far. But that’s a common fan issue with any series

3 episodes in and am really liking Jo Jo’s Bizarre Adventure! Looking forward to all these other options out there being brought to my attention.

Oh? Curious. Appreciate the suggestions!

Edit: Just remembered a old anime I used to watch and play the game. But anyone recall ‘Duel Masters’ ? There’s another coming to mind but the name is kinda fuzzy at the moment.

I wonder if there's any good Anko fanfic?

I feel like with Bleach, the anime takes ages and ages to get through fights whereas with the manga you can read them as fast or slow as you like. Also, I think the art is WAY better in the manga. Some of Kubo's best work is in his sound effects and page compositions, and you don't get those in an anime. But that's the comics nerd in me talking. XD

I don’t know, can’t say I’ve looked myself, fanfics of any fandom can be a dangerous road with some things you can’t unsee.

I’ll keep this in mind! FMA and Bleach were amongst the most common and popular of mention besides Naruto and One piece on the last forum I was on and where most of my rp and forum exp derives. So always remained curious about them.

Appreciate the recommendation! I completely forgot about that one, But I actually have seen a fair bit of Zatch Bell, way back when it was more of a main stay on Cartoon Network as a kid.
OMG, You remember that show on Cartoon Network!? Man, in the anime community it's like that show never existed.

I can’t believe I completely forgot about it. But yeah, I definitely recall it on CN! Used to watch as often as I could, it was a good show but memory has me thinking the schedule of when it was on was inconsistent but still watched quite a bit. Byakugan I think is the name of another one I watched quite a bit and played the game? Trouble is another series had a similar name so might be off on the name a little. Zatch Bell, Duel masters and a few lesser talked about shows that were pretty good but short lived on CN it seems like.

Edit: googled it, name and memory recall was bothering me. Bakugan: Battle Brawler's

I personally don't recall how the schedule was for Zatch bell. I was really young when I saw it. Hell, I believe I HATED it because it made me cry(It was one of those emotional moments) I just remember the commercials. I've watched most of it online, I loved it as a preteen. Hell, I've read the manga!

Okay, here's another thing I can recommend to you. The creator Zatch bell made another series called Doubutsu no Kuni(Animal Land). It's a real hidden gem manga. I love it so much and the poor series doesn't have a fandom. I find it even better then Zatch bell. You should give a try, it's somewhat short. So far, the people who I've shared it with enjoyed it. Hook me up if you do get into it. I have no friends who likes this manga! XD

I sadly, Have not seen Byakugan....so I can't really comment on it. )=

That makes sense. I was in fourth grade I believe when Zatch Bell was playing on CN, I could be off on the schedule issues, but seems like a lot of rotation in general took place for the daytime anime watching back then. Looking back that series was pretty unique in addition to other positives it had going for it.

Oh? Never heard of this series but appreciate the suggestion all the same! A familiar source for a series then of Zatch Bells creator made that one. But will do! Haha

Had the name wrong, spelled it like the dojutsu from Naruto. It’s actually, Bakugan: Battle Brawlers, a series that kinda reminds me of Pokémon meets beyblade. It wasn’t bad from what I recall of it and the game on PlayStation was pretty good definitely surpassed my expectations for it.

Yup! There's no anime of animal land and Zatch bell wasn't popular so...Animal land had very little luck to become big.

Bakugan: Battle Brawlers? I've never heard of it. I've never got into Bakugan. I was mostly into pokemon, Digimon tamers(oh boy how much I love tamers) and....that's it! I think those are the only animes I got into as a kid. Everything else is when I was a Teenager and now!

My taste in anime now is mostly horror or fantasy. I Also watch a lot of hidden gems so..I know shows that are really good but no one else knows! It's a blessing and a curse.

Yeah that’s the name now that I googled and corrected myself. But makes sense, I recall it being a short lived anime way back when. I recall Digimon though, don’t think I ever really got into it but liked some characters as a kid.

Nice! I’ve never been into Horror myself, but I know a lot of people who are so combining The two makes sense. Fantasy is one of the main genres for me whether it’s anime or outside of anime/manga.

Welp, I can recommend fantasy anime then! There's an anime which I called the 'female version of Zatch Bell.' It called Rozen Maiden. It has a very close plot compare to zatch bell. Except rozen Maiden it's a smaller series and a little bit better writing wise? I know for sure it's more popular then zatch.
