Niko turned around with blinding speed once he felt something hit him,a low growl starting to rise from his throat. He stopped once he caught a quick glance of something moving through the foliage. He searched the ground for the projectile and noticed it was a pecan. It hadn't been thrown with enough strength to ignite his aggressive side.


Frowning with confusion,Niko approached the tree and started to shake it. He didn't really expect it to be a child up there. He wondered if some sort of wild animal managed to escape into the complex,although it seemed unlikely.

Wow, this guy is fast! Wesley ducked behind cover once Niko whirled about. Assuming he had not been seen, the boy removed his hands from the tree branch to cover his mouth and muffle his giggles. He balanced precariously on the branch and tried not to fidget too much though his giggling made it hard. Suddenly, the tree began to shake. Wesley gasped in fear as he felt himself falling backwards. What's happening!? The boy flailed his arms desperately but unsuccessfully trying to regain his balance. "AH!" he cried in his scared, high-pitched voice. The child closed his eyes tightly as he braced himself for a hard landing. He plummeted directly down upon the wolf hybrid.

"Ah!"


Niko gasped lightly when he looked up and saw the kid falling from the tree. He didn't stop to think about what to do. Acting immediately,he jumped to a lower branch and used it as support to jump and grab the boy.


As they fell back down,he used his body to cover the small hybrid. He hit the ground with his back harshly,wincing at the pain once he felt his bones complain. He was still holding onto the kid tightly.


"Are you okay? Ouch."

Wesley opened his eyes slowly. He was on the forest floor again, alive. He tried to sit up but found himself restrained. Squirming in his savior's arms, the boy discovered that the wolf man he'd been stalking had saved him. Wesley stared up at the man for a moment with big blue eyes and a surprised expression. Then, a childish smile appeared on his face. "Of course I'm okay!" he chirped energetically, "But let me goooo." Wes squirmed in the man's arms until released. Then, he spun about on top of the man until he faced him. "I knew you were a super hero!" he grinned confidently. Sitting on the wolf's belly now, the raccoon gazed down at his new friend. "You're super strong and fast and you flied up there to save me!"

Niko's day had been going weirdly even before he had an unsettlingly happy child jumping on his belly.


He looked down at the raccoon hybrid with confusion as he spoke something about superheroes. He had been called many names in his life,but that was definitely a first.


"Kiddo...just be more careful as you climb trees around here,okay? Next time I might not be down here to hold you."


He held the small raccoon and placed him on the ground before stretching,his muscles aching at the movement. His tail moved lightly around as he pushed himself up,looking down at the kid. Niko felt a small surge of worry for someone that was so small and innocent in a hellhole like this.


"Well...I guess I will be going now."

The moment Niko moved the child onto the ground, Wesley leaped to his feet. He walked behind the wolf, gently petting the tip of the canine's tail once before walking around to the front of the stranger. "Hey, why'd you beat up that guy back there?" asked the boy with an enthusiastic smile. The child followed the wolf closely as if oblivious to his attempt at leaving. "Did he do something bad? Like a crime? 'Cause he was mean to me when I was just trying to see if he was okay... He's a bad guy, huh?"

Niko sighed through his nose at the question,the movement making his wolf ears flop around in his head. There wasn't an easy answer to that question,not when he was talking to a child.





"Don't tell anyone you saw me do that. I don't want to be locked away again."





Niko couldn't stand the cages,not when he was more animal than man. But he owned the kid an explanation. He kneeled on the ground so he could look at the kid's eyes as he gave his answer.


"Kiddo,that man saw me as an easy target and decided to attacked me. If you hurt someone just because they seem weaker than you,you are a bad guy. So yes. He did something bad." A smile played in his eyes. "You never told me your name. I'm Niko. What about you?"

Wesley gazed into the man's eyes whilst he explained his actions. As soon as the man finished explaining, the child nodded in agreement. He knew all along that the lion must have been a bad guy. "I'm Wesley, but you can call me Wes!" he said confidently. "Don't worry. I'm not gonna tell on you. I got put in time out before too because I bit one of the doctors, but he deserved it. Time out really sucks." The boy spotted on the ground a pecan now, the one which he'd thrown a moment ago. He turned from the man to retrieve this little nut. Placing the pecan between his teeth, Wesley bit down and cracked it open. He walked back over to Niko with the treat in hand, taking the pecan apart and picking out the tasty parts. Popping a piece in his own mouth, he held his hand out to the wolf. "Want a piece? Its good," advised the child with a carefree air about him.

"They are idiots if they actually think all of this is normal. The fact they haven't even tried to rebel against you damn scientists makes them idiots." She had no idea if he heard her since he was heading out. She honestly didn't care at this point. If these scientists really cared she wouldn't be here right now. The moment she thought she was alone she started eating. "Disgusting....I can't believe I actually crave this." She threw her bowl at the cell of her wall then leaned her head back thinking to herself. She thought about his suggestion about acting better. "I do want to go outside....."She looked over at the window that was open and butterfly flew in and landed on her knee. She made a small smile as she looked at it then watched it was it flew back out the window. "Guess some good luck is coming my way."

Niko repeated the name in his tongue as if he was testing the sound in his mouth. It was unusual for him to speak often,and his voice had been starting to sound rough from lack of use.


He accepted the pecan piece when it was offered to him,smiling down at the raccoon. He could fell some affection for the kid growing in his chest. It was uninvited,but so are most feelings.


"What do you do around the compound,Wes? Do you just play around people? Do you hide? I don't think I have seen you before today." A smile pulled his lips up. "You look fast. But I bet I am faster."

  Rela sat outside beneath a tree with her eyes closed, just feeling the wind graze against her skin. She was wearing fairly baggy clothes, hiding her feminine figure from the eyes of those that might try and fantasize about her. She shuddered at the thought. She was surrounded by humanoids with animal instincts, it wouldn't be much to think their urges were a bit more toward the animal side too. Clearing herself of the dark thoughts that plagued her, she began to sing. It wasn't english, but even Rela didn't know what language it was. However, the feeling behind the song was what made her enjoy it.
  
  
  The song, from what she could tell, was about surviving the harshest of winter to see the flowers of summer. It was a song about getting past trials and tribulations to see the next great wonder. That was something that Rela often believed awaited the others, even if she didn't exactly speak her mind to anyone but Monique. However, whenever she did speak her mind, that perverted psychologist tried to turn it into some girl on girl thing. Another shudder ran down Rela's spine. She loved how much Monique looked out for them, but at the same time, she was terrified of what the woman was capable of imagining.
  
  
  Returning to music, as if to purge her thoughts, Rela picked up with yet another foreign song. This wasn't nearly as happy. It sounded like someone was locked away in a gilded cage. Given whatever they want, except for their freedom. Rela's voice rang out across the grounds as she found herself singing stronger and more powerfully. This song was as close to her heart as she could get.

  Ethan wandered the halls by himself after, yet again, escaping from his cage in solitary. "You think they'd buff security on my cage or somethin." Ethan sighed as his two snakes coiled and slithered over his arms. "What do you think Ebony?" The black mamba that slithered along his left arm piqued at hearing her name. She seemed to speak to him softly through hissing before returning to crawl over his left arm. "Yeah, I guess increasing security around me is just as dangerous as letting me roam freely." Ethan shrugged. "Ivory, you got an idea of what to do?" The Albino Bush Viper that clung to his right arm raised his head, shook it left to right and then set it back down. "Ugh. Guess I'll go see about the other confined."
  
  
  Ethan slipped his way up to the rooms that held the other trouble makers. Ethan, being 100% lethal, had to be kept even separate from them. He could possibly cost the corporation that ran this place some money. As he stepped up he heard, the sound of a bowl clattering around somewhere. As he stepped up to the door he tapped quickly, before finagling the lock like he did his own and stepped inside. "Oh my, Roxie. Don't we look lovely today?" Ethan put on a bold smile as he shut the door behind him. Roxie was someone that looked down at the other experiments that tried to behave. Ethan liked that about her, she wasn't willing to cave her ideals to the scientists, similar to him. "So, how is our lovely little cat today?" He hissed as he held back a laugh and his two pets looked at him. "What?" The two snakes slithered up to his shoulders and coiled around his neck gently. "Whatever, but seriously, you feel like getting some air?" Ethan could easily help the cat out of her cage, though they'd both likely get in more trouble later.

  Nope. She wasn't going to do it. The paperwork that towered before her was too damn much. "Forget this." Laura grabbed her lighter and quickly left her office. Today was not going to be a day to nap in there to say the least. "Wonder if outside would be good. The kids are always fun to watch." Laura walked over to a window and looked outside, countless experiments were running around, or relaxing. They were just like everyone else on the outside of the compound, even if their physical features deemed otherwise. "I wish my research had stayed just that." Laura sighed as she pulled out a cigarette, lit it and began walking while occasionally taking a puff. "That kid's probably off feeding the troubled ones. That's fine though. I should go see to the ones outside anyway."
  
  
  Laura quickly walked her way to the outside and felt the warmth of the sun against her skin. It had been at least a couple of days since she actually left the lab or her office. The sun was really a comforting existence. "Now, let's go see how everyone is." Laura began to walk about the grounds observing each of the experiments in turn. "Oh my, I almost forgot I have a nocturnal to keep an eye on. I hope she's getting her rest." Laura pulled out a bottle of cyclobenzaprine. A very typical muscle relaxer and with a strength of only 5mg it wasn't too powerful, however, it could help someone relax and get to sleep.
  
  
  It took a bit for the scientist to make it to the young girl's cave in heels, however she managed. Tapping on the wall with one of the rings she wore on occasion, Laura called out. "Bell? Are you asleep honey?" Bell was one of the few experiments that Laura treated like her own child. There were a couple others, but something about the poor bat girl being on a different schedule than the other experiments made her usually be the one to spend time with her. "Do you need help relaxing?" Laura walked into the darkness trying her best not to lose her balance as she looked for the little girl.

  "Alright. I'm all set up and ready for work." Monique smiled as she looked at the computer she had with all of her patients' files. Each experiment and staff member was unique and it made her all the more excited to get to know them. Also, shipping them together was a fun hobby and it let her think of more creative ideas for her online novel. Monique cleared her throat and brought herself back to the reality that was before her. She was a psychologist first, write second. If she ever forgo that, she'd have a problem. Pulling out her schedule, Monique looked down the list. "I think I'll have......Bex come in first today." Monique smiled as she looked over the young cat girl's profile. "Security, it's Monique. Please bring Bex to my office. It's our daily session." Monique let go of the intercom after getting the affirmation of the command.
  
  
  "Now then, we wait for the lovely little tart to arrive." Opening up her browser, Monique transitioned herself into Arlana. Her fingers began dancing over the keyboard, the tapping of each key filled the room as she let her mind flow. The current story she was working on was one of her fan favorites. It had been running online for two years now. It was a simple story of two lonely housewives that found each other through an online sight. They were both trying to make sure to keep things from feeling like they were cheating on their husbands and so they went after a woman rather than a man. However, their relationship had become so much more over the course of the story to date. Currently she was writing about the two deciding whether or not to divorce their workaholic husbands so they could be together officially. All the while, Monique kept her ears primed for the sound of the knock on the door or the buzz to ask for permission into her office.

Bex was playfully jumping around the meadow chasing a butterfly. She morning sun was shining down on her. She was very peaceful. She pushed down into the ground and sprung up almost twice her height to try and catch this butterfly. She had almost got it until she felt a pair of hands grab her waist and pull her away from her new toy. She froze in shock then realised she was being taken in. Too frightened to move she just closed her eyes in the uncomfortable, muscular security guard's arms.


She was carried for what seemed like hours but was only a few minutes until she stopped moving. A loud knock sound made her snap open her eyes as she tried to wiggle out of the security guard's grasp. The loud noise had startled her.

Monique stopped typing at the knock. "Okay boys, bring her in." Monique held the button down that opened the door for her guests. Once the guards had left, Monique smiled warmly at the young girl. "Hello Bex. Remember me?" It had only been a brief session they'd had before. It was the introduction, somewhat get to know the girl session. Other than that, there really wasn't much there, but at least it was something. "I'm sorry the guards handled you so rough. Next time, I'll get you myself. How's that sound?" Monique offered the girl a chair as she reached into her bag and pulled out a jawbreaker that was about the size of a gumball from one of the dispensers from back in the day. "Want a jawbreaker? I know they don't normally let you kids have sweets but every now and then couldn't hurt." Monique kept her smile on as she took her place in the seat beside Bex.


"So Bex anything interesting happen to you during the past couple of months?" It had been a while since Monique actually got to have a session in this ward. However, she was now solely going to work for this ward and the major staff members. The other wards were to be taken care of by people she brought on. All of the staff she chose had been with her and thought of the "experiments" as the scientists called them, like their own children. That was the one requirement. These were still people, they had the right to be treated as such.

Bex stared blankly at the researcher in front of her for a minute or so before it all flooded back to her. She smiled slightly.


"Monique?" She asked quietly tilting her head. She remembered her soft voice. Her eyes lit up as the jawbreaker was placed in front of her. It had been a while since she had such a treat. She took it eagerly, without second thought.


"...anything intresting happen to you in the last couple months?"





She stopped enjoying her jawbreaker and looked up with her shining blue eyes. "No, not really." She said then remembered what happened earlier and shivered. "But there was a loud rawr this morning than woke me up and scared me." She said. She felt very childish next to Monique but she felt an element of safety.

"A loud roar? Did it sound like any specific animal?" Monique smiled and pet the girl's head as she seemed in bliss with the candy. Monique really did like the kids here. They were special, BEYOND just what had happened to them. A lot of them were still able to be cheery and enjoy life despite their circumstances, like Bex. "And I'm glad that you're still able to be the same ball of joy you were then too. But nothing has happened? No fights among the others? And none of the scientists have tried anything new?" Monique was surprised to hear this, but at the same time relieved. Maybe they're starting to realize they need to be more humane in their treatment of kids.





Monique looked down at the girl as she decided to look towards something a bit more in her field as well. "Any boys or girls you've taken an interest in among your fellows?" Monique liked bringing up romance and such because it was fun for her. As a writer, listening to others led to creation. If I cannot experience something myself, I will experience it by listening to another. It was sort of a motto of hers and it really did make for a fun lifestyle.

Cass walked among the trail, finished with her paper work in a record time. As usual. She cradled her laptop in one hand, and the other pushed her glasses up occasionally, or pushed a brown strand of hair behind her ears. She smiled as she looked around, taking various notes in her head. A good thing about photographic memory, the bad things was there was things she rather forget.


She spotted Laura in the cave and detoured. Having walked all in the came before, she knew where things where as long as she entered the opening in a certain way, following the voice she slipped next to Laura, "Nice to see you laura." She whispered.

Bex shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know who it came from but they didn't sound very happy." She said with most of her attention focused on the sweet she had been given. "I haven't seen any fights." She said looking up. "But it sounded like someone had a bit of a tumble." Bex didn't really pay attention to the others, she found most of them were bigger than her therefore quite scary.


"No, there's no one I really seem to like." She said scratching her ear. "Apart from you.. But not in that way!" She said slightly flustered, in attempt to not seem rude she had confused herself with what she was saying.

"Ah Cass. It'a pleasure to see you as well." Laura whispered in response. Another member to the research team, Cass was someone that Laura didn't mind being around. "I'm currently checking in on Belle, but I think she may have gone to sleep, so that should be a good sign." Laura edged her way out of the cave. She didn't want their conversation to interfere with Belle's rest. "So, what is it you came to talk about Cass? It's not every day I found you out among the experiments." Laura pulled out another cigarette and lit up. Her second of the day only because she thought about the paperwork waiting for her in her office. She really hated that part of being the head researcher. Everything else was nice.

Monique loved how cute this little girl was. And starting her day off with her was a great way to begin her day. Monique pulled the girl into her lap and hugged her. "I get what you meant, and I like you too Bex." She nuzzled into the young girl's head and scratched behind her ears before pulling out another jawbreaker. "Okay, keep this one hidden from everybody okay? And I'm going to walk you back out to the fields. I don't like the idea of the guards manhandling you again." Monique set the girl down and stood up, closing her computer so that it would trigger the passcode lock, finger print scan and pin entry. That much security was needed when dealing with these nosy science types. "Ready to go?" Monique smiled bright as she turned to face the cheerful cat girl.

Bex smiled and purred when Monique nuzzled her, it wasn't everyday she got so much attention. She nodded in understanding as she took the jawbreaker and hid it in her pocket. No one will know I have it. She thought to herself. "I'm probably going to eat it so fast no one will know." She said with a smile as she got up and walked to Monique's side. She was very happy she didn't have to be carried again, and the wide smile on her face definitely showed it. She walked closely with Monique back to the fields telling her an endless string of stories about her hiding in trees and long grass. "Oh, and I do love the cot that the researchers gave everyone." Bex said with a smile. "Thank you!"

"Well, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself so much Bex. You are turning out to be a wonderful young woman." Monique smiles. "I might be having a couple of boys coming over from another part of the facility in the near future. So if you meet them, please be good to them. Though one of them is a prankster, so keep your eye on him." Monique chuckled as she thought about the possibility of those two boys joining their group. She caught sound of Rela singing and smiled. "Ah, that voice is rather beautiful to me." Monique then pulled out her list. "Let's see who should I have a check in with next?" Monique tapped her pen against the clipboard as she looked down the names of each of the children kept in this part of the facility.

Cass smiled. "That's a very good sign indeed." she said following the woman out. Laura was similar to her in the way they took care of patients, or maybe all woman are. It's hard to tell when you only met one woman scientist. She looked with a grimace as Laura smoked. "You know those...things kill you correct?" She wasn't completely against smoking, she just wished people weren't stupid enough to do it.


Motioning to her laptop, "I was heading for a walk after finishing all the paper work I needed to complete, saw you and decided to check on you." She said briskly. She hoped Laura didn't question her on how she finished so quickly. Since Cass usually did a lot of paper work, plus others, but very few knew about her gift. "I finally decided it was time for fresh air and to get my head away from all the paper work" she said as for her reason for being out here.

Bex nodded and smiled, she did enjoy it here even though it could get a little scary it was her home. "Ooh, some boys." She giggled. "I hope they won't play any mean pranks." Bex thought aloud.


She led down on the soft grass and rolled around. "Will you come see me again soon?" She asked hopefully. Monique was one of the, if not the only, people she trusted and liked. She enjoyed the feeling of safety around her.

Wesley smiled excitedly as the wolf ate the offered pecan and did not seem to dislike it. In response to the man's questions, Wes replied, "Oh, yeah I like to play a lot! Climbing trees is fun and sneaking up on the girls to scare them. And sometimes the doctors give me comic books when Im good. Spiderman is my favorite!" The child continually fidgeted whilst he spoke as he was simply unable to contain his energy. "Fast? I am fast!" he cried enthusiastically. "I'm faster than you! Wanna see how fast I can run!?" Wesley's tail flicked all around behind him as he eagerly awaited Niko's permission to take off. The child was just about jumping up and down with excitement. He hadn't a playmate the past couple of days and was dying for some entertainment.

Niko chuckled at the response,specially at the part about scaring girls. He had no idea what a Spiderman was,but it seemed to figure that a raccoon would like a bug that climbs.


Taking an apple off the ground,Niko threw it as far as he could. It disappeared in the middle of a bush ahead of them.





"The first person who gets the apple wins. 1...2...3...go!"


He dashed forward,using only his human speed so the boy could keep up with him.

"Guh, oh god"


A small bit of noise came from a nearby somewhat shelter. It wasn't the best, but it was made of a few big sticks and some Leaves "sewn" together for a roof. A small entrance way was seen, and since the fort was parked up against a tree. Once you went in you could see there was hole in the tree. It was old, and rotting away, but the two siblings seemed to have made it into there personal home. The cots had been stripped of the mattresses, luckily these had mattresses and not just a rough layer of fabric. Both were pushed up against each other, and the older sibling seemed to be sprawled out with his younger one curled right into the hip. Issac flexed his arm a bit once getting it out from under Emily, it had gone to sleep on him and was now a huge ray of pain and needles. Sighing he sat up, leaving Emily to sleep a little longer. A book he had been reading last night flopped to the side, and he ran his pale finger tips through his brown hair. Before climbing out of there make shift home to meet the suns rays. "such a nice day, and what time is like....near noon maybe? shame" He spoke to him self before hearing the tiny crawling of his younger half "Issac what are you doing?" She asked rubbing her eyes, her hair a mess and her huge bunny ears flopped in front of her face. He gently moved them, and began combing his fingers through her hair. "nothing much, morning wake up call is all. Wanna go find some breakfast" He said finishing the brushing of her hair. before an apple thwonked him on the head, his sister laughed at him as he went cross eyed. "Seems the breakfast has came to you" He knodded and looked around from where it came. Before taking a bite, and offering the rest to Emily.
