VFA-118 "Warwolf" Squadron
Date: December 15th, 2002
Time: 9:30 Am Pacific Standard Time
State: California

It was another warm and sunny day in the beach state of the west coast of the United States, The sun was out and everyone was enjoying the day, going out to beaches, having fun in the water at the beach or staying in and swimming in their backyard swimming pools, while others were going to public swim facilities and swimming there. Still, others were doing stuff that would still be able to keep them cool, like going to the movies and sitting inside the air-conditioned theaters, while others were staying at home keeping their air-conditioners turned up to the max setting and just having a fun day inside with the family. One person out of all the people is about to go and adopt a child or 4 of his very own. He had been wanting to adopt for a long time, and give a child or 4 children a nice and loving home where they can know true love instead of just abusiveness and having to wait until someone decided to adopt them. Once he had everything he needed, he started to drive towards the adoption center which wasn't as far as he had originally thought when he had called them earlier in the day.

As the man drove to the center, he couldn't help but wonder about if he would be able to even handle 4 children at once on his own. Regardless though of whatever he might have been thinking at the time, he would do his very best to take care of them and show them as much love as possible and be there for them when they needed him. He knew that if he adopted a teen, that he was going to have to give them their own room, because two teens sleeping together and without their own space, would just cause more trouble than it was worth if he was being honest. After a while of thinking, he decided to just let them choose their own rooms and hope that everyone would be happy. As he got to the center and parked and got out of the SUV he was driving. He also decided that he was also going to be taking them shopping and then take them to go and eat at a restaurant to celebrate coming together and his adoptive children's new lives with him. He figured he could also take them out and do something nice after they would get the necessary errands that needed to be done. He walked up to the center door and knocked on the door, not knowing what to expect, when the door was opened and he spoke to the worker that had answered the door and stepped inside as he looked around and just watched the children that were having fun and playing with each other and doing other things with their friends and fellow foster children.

Camilo yawned as he was woken by his alarm, his limbs feeling like lead even though he'd gone to sleep at a reasonable hour (for once). Today someone was supposed to be coming in, and was supposedly looking for someone "just like you, Camilo!" ... like he hadn't heard that a billion times. He didn't think anything was going to come out of today... he'd probably just end up hiding out in the bathroom listening to MCR again. Still, he'd wanted to wake up so he'd at least look presentable. He didn't want the workers to scold him again for not presenting himself as well as he could have.

He got dressed -- or, more accurately, changed from his pajama pants into jeans and threw on a hoodie -- then made his way into the common room. He grabbed a granola bar to munch on while he watched the younger kids play, too old to join them but not minding helping them out once in a while if they needed him to. He'd been standing around for only a few minutes when a man had come in... since he didn't recognize him (and since he was looking so fondly at all the kids) he assumed this must be the guy coming in today.

He'd probably want one of the younger ones. Maybe a girl. People tended to go for little girls... they were impossible not to adopt if you spoke to them for even one minute. Teenagers like him were rarely considered, and even more rarely adopted. So... he wouldn't get his hopes up. Not that he really had any to begin with. Though, if he was selected to talk to the guy, he supposed he'd do his best... It was never going to happen, though.

Nova
Today was going to be another day that would come and go like the others. Nova had been staring at the ceiling for an unknown amount of hours after being woken up by one of the the other children. She was told that she had suffered through another night terror but she had no recollection of it. Her arms clutched at the stuffed wolf, Alpha, that she vowed to keep clean and treasure. With him bringing a sense of ease she was able to fall peacefully back into unconsciousness.

It wasn't long before it was around the time for everyone to get ready for the day. another day of adoption, disappointment, and rejection. Nova hastily shook her head in order to let her curls fall where they may and to get rid of the flat area that was a result from her sleeping on it. A pair of loose black shorts paired with a grey shirt with pawprints all over it would suffice for today. She dragged Alpha out into the public area and chose to lean against him while observing how the other kids put on fake behaviors to make them seem likeable. There were only a few kids she associated with including some teens but in her half-sleep state she couldn't be bothered to find them yet. One of the workers brought Nova some frozen grapes which immediately perked up her mood and resulted in a genuine small smile,
"Thank you, Carla."

To be adopted, what a strange idea.

The gentle rays of the sun peeking through the curtains upon tired, weary eyes. The dawn of a new day had arrived, the dawn of a day like many others.

A young girl peeled herself out of bed, readying herself for the day, sluggishly moving as she dressed herself and left to where she would spend most of her day.

Olivia sat at the edge of where the other children played, legs crossed as she sat with her back pressed against the wall. Today, more children were going to be adopted. The idea of being chosen had crossed her mind every now and then, but quickly being dismissed. She felt selfish for the thought even entering her mind, lightly shaking her head to pull herself back towards her meditation.

While it sounded nice, she had already planned for her future assuming she would stay in the system. Other children deserved it far more than she, and soon enough she would be out and on her own, hopefully reunited with her dear brother Liam. Olivia continued to tell herself she was content being like a mother to the younger children, putting them before herself and pushing for their adoption.

Olivia slowed her breathing, closing her eyes gently and keeping her hands in her lap. Allowing her thoughts to drift and flow through, they soon went away as she allowed them to exist. She intended to stay off to the side so as not to distract from the others who deserved this chance much more than she did.

The Adoption Centre
149bf119ea0fc1726f89c19a482668da--beautiful-boys-beautiful-children.png

Time: 09:30AM | Mentions: N/A

Nathan was one of those children who was always up bright and early, no alarm or reason outside his boundless energy.
As soon as the earliest rays of sunlight hit his bunk of the bed he was quickly up and cheerful, getting himself changed out of his ironman PJ's, brushing his teeth, and downstairs having a big bowl of cereal long before some of the other kids (especially the teenagers) had even woke up.

The excitable boy had somewhat forgotten what was going on today, all of what the worker's here had said for the past few days - Instead all he thought about was that bright sun outside, he wanted to go outside! Not that the whole prospect of somebody coming to adopt kids seemed like that big of a deal anymore, Nathan had been here for a while and this was what he was used to - People enter, take other kids and leave. Even if it was just the Centre though, this was his home, and he was slightly scared by the prospect of leaving it so the thought of people coming in was more intimidating than it was exciting.
As such when this man arrived Nathan was just out near the front of the building at the time acting as carefree as he always did racing up and down a section of the path equipped with his fiery-red inline skates and a set of skate-pads / helmet that matched. Nathan had just dismissed the man at first, but as the man was already half-way through the door he finally stopped and tilted his head. Who was...?

Then he remembered that somebody was coming today! Opps.
He was going to be in soo much trouble!

He rushed around to a side door and tried to slip himself back into the Adoption Centre, hoping to sneak into the Common Room in a rush before any of the workers noticed. Yet his favorite toy betrayed him as the heavier sound of the skate's plastic plastic wheels against the wooden floor of a hallway immediately caught notice of some of the workers.
He barely got himself into the common room before one of the workers came over, who immediately proceeded to give the boy a subtle tongue-lashing for the third time this week for wearing his skates inside.

Soon enough though, another staff member came to greet him and he greeted her back and as he looked around the center, he heard her ask him "Do you need any help today sir?" He then looked to her and nodded "Yes, I came by today to see if I could look into adopting some foster children. I haven't spoken to a social worker yet, so I wouldn't exactly know what the process was in order to get approved, but I thought I would come down and try to see about it anyways." He told the woman and walked with her when he was shown towards where the office usually was and he looked around it and as he was told what the process was, he couldn't help but notice a young boy in the office that had some inline roller skates and was being scolded by one of the other centers staff members. He chuckled to himself quietly, knowing that sometimes, some kids just did things that were weird, but it was weird in a good way. As he watched the boy out of the corner of his eye to see if the boy would maybe want a home of his own where he didn't have to share it more than a few other kids, he was asked "So, sir, what kind of children were you looking to adopt? Did you have any particular age group in mind?" She asked him and waited for his response.

"Hm? Oh no particular age group in mind, I just wanna be able to give some foster kids that deserve it a home. I don't see why people should just abandon kids or people just be so bad to their children that they get them taken away by the state. It's just an unfortunate nature of the world we live in as of now, what with the way people act. But hey, it is what it is, we can't change it and can only live the way we try to do." He explained as he answered her second question "I was just looking to adopt some children that needed some good homes, I wouldn't expect them to trust me right away. But maybe I would like to show some kids who have had a rougher life than normal, that not all adults are the same and that some can be better than others is all." He finished and then looked at the staff member as she had noticed his wandering eye and that it had fallen on one of their younger foster children in the center, Nathan, he was a nice boy, but seemed to have a tendency of not letting others know where he was going when he went out, which would be a problem in itself if he was ever caught by someone that wasn't one of the staff members or maybe a law enforcement officer or in the worse case, maybe a really bad person that would have liked nothing more than to just do very bad things and defile the children and teens here in a way that she could only shudder at in her mind. She shook it off quickly and turned her mind back to what she had to do.

"I see your eye has fallen on a very nice child, that is Nathan, he is seven years old. He's a nice boy, very energetic, as you can see, he likes to roller skate with his inline skates, unfortunately, he seems to have difficulty with letting others know where he is going, when he goes skating and while that wouldn't be much of an issue if he was doing it just around the center itself, he tends to go further than we can keep an eye on him. It makes us worried because you never know what kind of people are lurking around in the shadows and well...you know what I mean." She said as she asked "would you like to speak to him? Maybe you two will find something that you have in common, you never know what fate has in store until it happens." She told him. Once she got the answer that she was looking for which was "yes", she looked over to Nathan and called him over "Nathan, could you come over here for a moment please? This young man was looking to talk to you about maybe getting to know you better." She said and she waited for Nathan to come over and then she would go and leave them alone, so that she could go and check on some of the other children.

As soon as they both were not being disturbed in the office, the man asked "So, your name is Nathan right? That's a very nice name for a boy you know. You like to do inline skating, are their any other activities that you like to do besides skating?" He asked the boy and waited for a response. He hoped this boy didn't become scared or nervous around him or anything, but it would be understandable because of the fact that he wasn't exactly a regular person that came by and worked here with the children. He was a firefighter/paramedic, which meant he worked out of a fire station when he was on duty and luckily for him, his schedule allowed him to stay home most of the time, only needing to stay at the station for a day or two at most, before he was able to go back home and then relax until he needed to go back to work until his shift was over. Saving lives and being able to help the injured was something that he really loved to do, he had almost gotten into law enforcement, but decided that Fire fighting was the better option for what he was looking to do. He had a bachelors degree in medicine and was a registered paramedic which meant that he was able to preform life-saving procedures in the ambulance that he worked out of and on the field when needed.

The Adoption Centre

Nathan gently rolled over towards the office area when he was called, the young boy rather nervous in doing so as he crossed paths with the other kids, he knew some of them wanted to be in this kind of meet and greet way more than him. Who is this guy? How would I know if he's a good guy or not? What if he's like one of those bad guys the teenagers always told him about..?

...

Nathan was never good at these whole interviews if you couldn't tell. He timidly took a seat across from the man as the worker left the room. The nerves were obvious, he was sitting awkwardly, and he wasn't really sitting still, rolling one of his flame-designed skates forward and back restlessly as he sat there.

Initially he just kind of nodded a bit agreeing with the comments, leaving an awkward silence for a moment.
"I do like skating. I also like watching cartoons... And coloring -and having nerf fights."
"And urm, I like playing sports."

He made an effort to answer the question, while fidgeting with the velcro on his wrist-pads.
"And uh..."

"What do you like to do..?"

Nathan inquired with a curious tone and thinking it'd be polite.

"Well, I do like cartoons and nerf stuff, I also like playing video games, computers, playing board games, going bowling, playing airsoft (which is like nerf, just with small .20 gram plastic balls and guns that look pretty much real, just with usually a marking to show that they aren't real such as an orange tip or some kind of like defining marker. Also it isn't able to load real bullets, etc.) and skating, even though I don't have my own pair of skates and haven't had them in a while, I still like it." He said kindly as he asked the next question that he had thought about based on his answers to the initial questions he had asked Nathan.

"Do you have a particular sport that you would wanna play if you got the chance to?" He asked as he said "Sounds like you are a very active boy, which is definitely a good thing. You are way more active than I was when I was when I was your age, I believe you're seven, right?" He asked as he looked at the young boy and did notice the nervousness, but that was to be expected with certain people, he knew how Nathan was feeling and wasn't exactly the best at these sorts of things either, but luckily for him, he always just tried to answer the best he could at the time.

The Adoption Centre

Nathan continued to fidget awkwardly, and momentarily peer for a moment out of the door into the main room to see what the other kids were up to. He remembered seeing some of the other kids like Nova, or the teens like Camilo out there before. His eyes wandering during this man's side of the conversation. He was still listening! He just felt really unsure what to do here, almost searching for guidance, not that the other kids could help here.

He looked back to the man as he started talking about the airsoft and skating himself, a shift to curiocity for a moment.
"Urm... I mean I like playing soccer, and basketball with the other kids.. Oh and one of the older kids a while back was really into hockey and he played some roller hockey outside in the parking bit, and that was really fun." The young boy replied, recounting the latter bit with almost an excited laugh. Nathan's never gotten to be part of proper clubs or anything, it's hard to do when your getting moved from centre to centre and or temporary house to temporary house. A proper youth hockey-group would likely suit him well.

"Yeah seven. -and urm, I'm in the second grade." He tried replied.
"So urm.. How old are you?" Once again he just returned the question.

"That sounds like something that I could potentially think about getting you into, provided of course that you come home with me, but I'd like us both to get to know each other better first, before you choose if you wanna come home with me or not." He told the young boy as he saw the boy have an excited laugh and he smiled at that. The boy did seem nice, but that seemed to be only because he had to, more than anything else and he wondered how the boy would act outside of the center, but he was confident that this boy wouldn't be too difficult to handle if he did something bad. Regardless though, sitting there with this boy, made him start to like him as their time together went on, even if it was an awkward time frame.

"I'm 27 actually and I work for the county as a fireman/paramedic." He said lightly referring to the Los Angeles County Fire Department (Abbreviated LACoFD ), which was the county component of it's sister city agency Los Angeles Fire Department (Abbreviated L.A.F.D). "I mainly save lives and provide critical care to those that need it on the way to the hospital or when I first pull up on a medical call." He explained hoping that the young boy would understand what he was talking about. He then noticed the boy had been looking outside at the other kids and asked "nervous? It's okay and understandable, I would feel the same way if I was in your shoes and being asked a bunch of questions by an adult that was looking to adopt and I didn't know if he was good or bad either. I know I've never been adopted by anyone as far as I can remember, but I do know that I had a lot of problems that my parents had to help me through when I was growing up." He said hoping that this would be a good way of relating to the boy, but he didn't think so and had just decided to say it anyways.

He then asked "So, out of all the kids and teens here that could deserve a home, who would you say that maybe really need one besides you? I'm asking you this because I would like to make sure that if I do adopt you and I have to be at my work, that you wouldn't be bored or feel alone while you're at my house and have no one to try and talk with or maybe have some fun playing a game with or something. Would you be okay with having siblings if I adopted you?" He asked Nathan as he hoped this was okay, Owen wanted to adopt more than one child, but he also wanted to make sure that the one child he was talking to right now, would be okay with having siblings even though they weren't blood related.

The Adoption Centre

Nathan was definitely unsure of what to think, this was really awkward and scary. This man seemed nice though, but Nathan didn't have much of an experience of family. He couldn't remember his parents at all being too young at the time he was taken into protective custody.

"Woaaah... So you mean your job is to go around and save people all time?" He couldn't help but pause at that. Could a bad person do that for a job? It seemed to strike a chord with the boy for sure. A fact that seemed to calm the boy's anxiety as he shifted on the seat a bit to sit up better.

Then the man went on to ask about the other kids here and Nathan's thoughts, something that unsettled him a little and gave him pause. This man kinda seemed serious about adoption. He didn't know what to think about this, normally this is where he'd start saying stuff to get out of it, to screw it all up just because he was scared but- that thought didn't cross his mind.
"Urm.. I guess I wouldn't mind having brothers or sisters. As long as they're nice."

The next part made him pause, before he quickly looked over and towards the door. "..." He gave a thought for a moment. "Urm I..."
"...I think the older kids like Camilo and Olivia. Cus' they've been waiting here a really really long time I think and nobodies adopted them."

"But I don't know if I need a home like some of the other kids do. Like one of the
girl's Nova, in the same grade as me but has been taken in by families before but they all turned out mean." He shifted a little and went quiet feeling uncomfortable about all this. Talking about the other kids where they couldn't hear him, meanwhile Nathan himself was still conflicted with just the idea of being adopted. "I think.. I think they'd need it more."
...Guess Nathan did say something to lower his chances again. Well done kid!
A realising this fact his posture just sank and slouched more awkward than ever, and was plain to read on his face.

"Yep, it sure is, I go around and save people all the time, though not like the police do, but I do work closely with them from time to time." He said as he noticed the boy's change of posture and demeanor for sure when he had brought up what he did for a living, which seemed to definitely help convince the boy that maybe he wasn't so bad after all. This boy was definitely surprised at his job, which he couldn't help but chuckle a little again to himself quietly, but then again, he wasn't exactly dressed for it right now and that was because he actually had a couple of weeks off to take care of the adoption stuff and get all the kids he was going to adopt settled and into a normal routine as well as getting them into school and stuff like that. He was still an active part of the station he worked for, luckily, the apartment he lived in was a short 20 minute walk to the station and back from it.

When he mentioned two of the older kids named Camilo and Nova and how they had been here longer than most of the kids here, he couldn't help but feel an angst of pain in his heart and wonder why no one had tried to adopt one of the older kids, they were deserving of homes just as much as a younger kid was. This sort of also made him annoyed with how most people seemed to treat older kids when it came down to adoption and fostering, not that he knew anything about the inner workings of how the system actually worked, because he didn't. He just fought fires when needed, saved firemen when they went down in a burning building and saved people's lives when they needed medical attention and try to treat them the best he could on the way to the hospital. That was the life he knew and had know for the last 7 years or so. He was also sad to hear about one of the kids closer in age to him named Nova, that seemed to have been just taken in by families that weren't exactly the nicest people in the world and had probably just thought that they could get some use out of her or something, which was just not a right thing to do, but again, he didn't know the system and how people chose to view some kids, so he couldn't speak on the matter.

"That sounds like they do need a home, but not more than you, just as much as you do. As far as I am concerned, everyone deserves a chance at a better life, no matter who you are, you deserve a chance to have a family that cares for you, instead of just taking you in for a while and then discarding you because they don't like you, it's not a very nice thing to do and I would certainly never want anyone to do that to any of you kids. Maybe I will see about talking to some of the other kids that you had mentioned and maybe see if we can get the four of you adopted as a group, that way you 4 can still be together and not have to be separated from each other if you are all friends with each other, does that sound like a good thing to you?" He asked the young boy as he saw one of the staff members come back into the office and Owen got her attention and asked the staff member about the other children that Nathan had mentioned and she responded

"Camilo is a nice boy, music seems to be something that he is into, yes, he has been here longer than most of the other kids, as well as Olivia, they both seem to have come in at the same time. But, he seems to have a little bit of problem with authority figures, but under that, we have seen that there is someone that is still hopeful in some sense of the word that someone, somewhere will come to take him away from here and he can finally be with someone that will love him. He does have a bit of sarcasm in his tone of voice, but that is more due to how he seems to view his situation. Most of the staff here at the center wish that someone could take both him and Olivia together so that they can finally have a home and a family that they would be loved and finally be able to have a family unit together." The staff member said as she talked about Olivia next

"Olivia is a nice girl, she had a brother in the system with her, who had been taken by another family and she hadn't been able to go with him. She likes to drink tea and eat watermelon, but the one thing she seems to always want whenever we have asked her about it, is to leave and be able to reunite with her brother. We think that this is something she would really be happy about if he was found and then she was able to reunite and spend some time with him. She's independent and tends to not rely on others for doing things that she needs to be done. But still deserves to have a home just like any other kid or teen here." The staff member said as she finally got to talking about Nova and what had happened with her situation

"Nova had been abused most of her life by her mother and had to watch many things that a kid should never have to watch, as far as we can tell, she was abused pretty heavily a majority of the time and when she was placed with her first family, she still seemed to have hope that she would find a good home, but unfortunately, some of the families that had come and tried to adopt her, were not in the best mindset and didn't seem to provide much in the form of love and care that a child of her background would need and after a while, she would be once again brought back to the center by social services, she has had a hard life, but we think that with the right placing, she will be able to finally live the life that she should have been given from the beginning."

Owen listened and felt bad as he heard the brief overview of these children and teen's stories, he couldn't help but feel really bad for how their lives had turned out so far. He now, more than ever wanted to give the three of them a home as well as Nathan, but he had to make sure that they were comfortable with him as much as he would be comfortable with them, after all, he couldn't just adopt them right off the bat and expect him to like him right away now could he? No, he had to take the time to get to know them, just like he had with Nathan and then they could decide whether or not they felt comfortable enough to want to be adopted into a new home with him.

"I'd like to speak to them, if that's okay? I would like to get to know the three of them as well as keep Nathan here and maybe once we're all familiar and comfortable with each other, we can talk about getting them adopted into my care, provided of course, that they are comfortable with me as much as I would be comfortable with them." He told the staff member, who simply nodded and looked to one of the other staff members and asked

"hey, can you do me a favor and get Camilo and Olivia to come to the office? I'll go and talk to Nova and bring her here as well." To which the other staff member agreed and went off to find the two teens while the first staffer that Owen had talked to went to go and get Nova and bring her to the office. While Owen waited he looked to Nathan and asked "Do you feel like you would want to come home with me? LIke I told the staff member I was talking to just now, I wanna make sure that you all are as comfortable with me, as I would be with you guys and girls. It's okay if you don't want to, I'm just trying to consider your feelings and thoughts in this as well." Owen explained to Nathan and then continued to look at the boy.

"Camillo?" The boy looked up from the kids playing on the floor, wondering if he was in trouble. He rose a brow as one of the workers walked towards him. "Mr. Ryder would like to speak with you."

"He... does?" Camilo blinked in surprise. People usually didn't want to talk to him. Especially not after they talked to what he was sure was the most adorable little boy in the building. He really couldn't think of a single reason someone would be looking to talk to him -- especially because he knew he didn't come off as the most friendly, adorable, practically begging to be adopted child. In fact, he was pretty much the opposite. He didn't talk to adults who wanted to adopt him because they never wanted to. And he didn't beg.

"Yes, Camilo!" the worker smiled, like he was some silly ten year old they could talk down to. News flash, he wasn't. "Now, come on!"

Camilo sighed, taking out his headphones and following the worker to the Office. They gestured towards the man who had come in, then went off, maybe to get someone else. If the boy had to guess, he'd say this guy was the type to talk to a lot of kids -- really get their hopes up -- and then leave with some tiny toddler. He'd seen it happen before... he wouldn't be surprised if it happened again.

He waited for the guy, who was still with Nathan, to look at him, not saying anything. He kept his hands in his hoodie pocket, fiddling his thumbs inside the fabric. He'd rather just get this over with. He didn't get his hopes up... he'd stopped doing that years ago.

Nova
Nova had continued to watched the little interaction between Nathan and the unknown man that had come. Of course anyone that had eyes could see that the man was acting nice and seemed friendly enough. She wasn't going to fall for that same old trick and had begun to doze off. She was only sleep for a few moments before the worker named Carla had appeared again and said that a 'Mr. Owen' would like to talk to her. The apprehension on Nova's face was painfully obvious but the older woman was use to this situation. Carla put on a bright grin as she pulled another bag of frozen grapes out.

Within seconds, Nova was walking hand in hand with Carla while her other hand dragged the stuffed wolf that almost her size behind. She had eaten her snack and walked into the office with a smile small. She wished that the little butterflies would drop dead in her stomach, there was no need to be nervous when she knew that this man couldn't possibly want a broken child. Nova made eye contact with Nathan and Camilo as if looking for some kind of clue that this man wasn't just messing around. 'H-Hello Mr. Owen, I'm Nova...' She cursed how meek she sounded but it couldn't be helped at times like this with her anxiety and nerves on the rise.

Galaxy is throwing his Pokeball in the air then catching it, which was a Furret in it. He later throws it on the ground, causing to Furret to spawn.

Olivia was pulled from her deep meditation with a single word, her name.

“Oliva?” The worker spoke, grabbing her attention as she slowly turned her head towards them and tilting her head slightly.

“Can I help you?”

“Owen Ryder asked to speak with you.” The worker gave a warm, genuine smile, one that took Olivia off her guard. Him? Want to talk to her? What an interesting turn of events. Of course, she wasn’t going to get her hopes up. This Owen Ryder likely wanted to make her feel

With a curt nod, Olivia rose from the floor and followed the worker back to the office, cupping her hands together in front of her as she walked, each step projecting her attempt at grace and elegance. Once she arrived, Olivia stood next to Camilo and gave him a much warmer nod than she gave the worker.

“Good morning, Camilo…” Olivia spoke, keeping her voice quiet so as not to disturb anyone else. She turned her attention to Owen, giving a small curtsy as a greeting towards him. “And a good morning to you, Mister Ryder.”

Nathan wasn't sure what to think. This man suddenly went from wanting to adopt him to now wanting to adopt everyone.. Just like that, with just a few words. He'd never seen anyone coming in to adopt that many kids before. It left Nathan awkwardly speechless in response to Owen's question: "Do you feel like you would want to come home with me?" The boy still had to process this however, but he gave a slight nervous nod.

The arrival of the others however definitely helped break the silence.
Nathan gave this guilty smile and wave to the others, the same expression the boy might give after having been caught red-handed trying to sneak a piece of cake to his room, between that and the almost apologetic tone to his voice that he did something. "Urm hi, Camilo, hi Nova, hi Olivia."

The boy was immediately less nervous with the others here.
"I think this man's nice." Nathan hoped the others would believe him and talk properly not just argue.
He really wanted some of them to find a place, he did name them and all for that reason.

"Hello Camilo, Hello Nova, it's nice to meet you three. I'm looking to adopt a couple of children or teens of my very own. But I wanted to talk to you four and get to know you better and then let the four of you decide whether or not you want to come home with me or not, is that okay with you guys?" He asked them as he looked at the two new kids that had entered into the room with the worker and then had left to go and get the other girl Olivia that Nathan had mentioned. He then continued to watch them both for a moment and asked them "So, how old are the two of you?" He asked them as he tried to find a way to break the tension in the room with the two new kids and he hoped that they would get used to him like Nathan had done when he had been talking to him earlier, before he knew about the other kids that Nathan had mentioned needed homes just as much as he did and did notice that in Nova's hands, she was holding onto a stuffed wolf and that seemed like a good place to try and get her to be comfortable with them.

"So Nova, I see you have a stuffed wolf in your hands there. Can I ask if you like animals,, especially wolves? Personally, I find cats and wolves very adorable and sweet." He told her in a soft and calm voice as he waited for her answer to his questions. He hoped that this would be able to help break the ice between the both of them and help her to get comfortable with him even jt was a little bit.

"Thank you Nathan, I'm glad that your willing to help me out by saying such a nice thing based on when we were talking earlier and trying to get to know each other." He told Nathan and then turned his attention to Nova, Olivia and Camilo and continued to try and get them to be able to break the ice and feel at least a little bit more comfortable with him than they were at the moment. Though when he had first met Olivia he wondered why she had not been adopted by a potential parent looking to adopt an older child instead of a younger child. But, he wouldn't know anything about the process, so he couldn't speak on why the teen had not been considered for adoption before now by anyone. Yet, he still didn't know anything about the system, so he couldn't speak on what factors go into the selection of children or teenagers who are deserving of homes just as much as any naturally born child ot teenager that has their own parents or family.

"Olivia, you seem like a very nice girl, well mannered that is for sure. Can I ask how old you are at the current moment?" He asked her in the same calm voice that he had been speaking in this entire time. He hoped that he could find something to help break the ice and that he would like to be able to connect with her as well as the rest of the children and teens he was talking to at the moment. He then decided to address all four of them with what he was feeling at the moment from all of them even though they were all feeling it and unwilling to admit it for any number of reasons.

"Camilo, I heard from one of the staff members here that you are very much into music, is that right? If so, can I ask what bands you like to listen to?" He asked Camilo as he added "if I heard something wrong, then please feel free to correct me and tell me what I got wrong, because i do not want to get anything wrong and i dont want you to feel like I'm just using the information as a way to be able to get you to like me more. While I may wish to adopt you into my care that doesn't mean that I won't take your feelings or anyone's feelings into account here, when I am making my decision, because I want you all to be able to be happy and comfortable on your new family life." He explained and then just watched and waited.

"Nathan, Olivia, Canilo and Nova, it's okay for you four to be nervous in a situation like this. If I was someone that was in the position that you were in and have been in before, then I would certainly scared, nervous and any other feelings that you might be having at the moment if I had gone through what some of you have gone through in your lives before you ended up here and are waiting for a way out so that all of you can have a life that you should have had from the beginning, not the life that you were given. Now I'm not saying that I would think about blaming any of you for stuff that would have happened in your past. All I am saying to the four of you is that you do not have to be scared, you dont have to be nervous, etc. When you are around me. Sure you may not trust me, sure you may not feel like you deserve to be with me. But I want you to know that if I tell you something, than I am going to act on it and see it to the end. Do you know what I am going to tell the four of you? I'm going to tell you that I am going to adopt the four of you into my care and give you a life that is free of the state care and give you the family that you always deserved, but never got." He told them as he finished his little speech and then hoped that this would be something that they would be okay with him saying.

When Camilo saw Nova walk in, he straightened up a bit, instinctively feeling protective over the girl. He knew he'd had a lot of issues in the past -- she'd probably had it worse than anyone else at the Center -- and he also knew she didn't do well around adults. He eyed the man more critically, then, looking for any sign that he wouldn't be good for her if he chose to adopt her. He didn't think he'd be leaving the Center -- even when he was interviewed, he never did -- but if Nova was adopted, he wanted to be sure that she'd be in good hands.

He didn't say anything when the man started talking... he just nodded. He mumbled, "fourteen," at the question of his age, but nothing else. When Olivia came along, though, he said a soft "hey," in reply to her. Still, when Nathan said he thought the man was nice, he just gave the kid a nod. He didn't feel very talkative... especially not with so many people around. He'd rather be in bed listening to music.

As the guy continued to talk, in fact, he really wished he could leave and listen to music, because God, how could someone have so many questions? He acted like he actually cared. Did he, though? Because from Camilo's experience, most people didn't. They'd ask their stupid questions to be polite, then they'd leave. This guy, though, was now asking about things he liked, which was surprising but Camilo still wasn't sure how to answer, or even if he wanted to. The man seemed kind and all, but it was too good to be true. A man coming in claiming to want four kids? And the first four he talks to just happen to be perfect? Camilo didn't buy it.

Still... he'd try not to be rude. He didn't want to get in trouble for 'ruining his chances' again or whatever.

"I like Twenty One Pilots," he said, though the man probably wouldn't even know what that was. Ugh, he hoped this wasn't the type of guy who thought alternative and emo music was unhealthy. Those people were the most annoying... Though, as he continued to talk, he did seem to care about what they thought about all this. That was better than the people who came in and wouldn't take no for an answer, at least.

And then, at least in Camilo's opinion, he ruined it.

The teen rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. What was this guy talking about, if he was in their position? He didn't understand and he never would. How did he just expect them to be comfortable around them, and after they'd talked for what, a few minutes? Sure, the guy was making an effort, but Camilo, for one, was not going to trust him right off the bat.

And he wasn't scared.

Nova
Nova looked up at the man with slight apprehension. She had never encountered someone that talked so much that it almost made her head spin. He sure didn't waste anytime in getting out everything he wanted to say. Nova's grip on Alpha tightened more as if Mr. Ryder would attempt to take it from her.

'I do love animals. Wolves are just one of my favorites. there's other ones too.' Nova listened intently as the seemingly alright man in front of her directed his attention to Camilo and Olivia. While he was focused on them, she looked him over once more to see if he even gave off any kind of dangerous intentions but everything seemed to be pretty genuine. When Owen had brought up that he wanted to adopt all four of them together, her jaw dropped slightly. What kind of twisted man would adopt 4 unrelated kids was one of the many thoughts that passed through her mind. '....Are you messing with us, if so then this is a really mean joke mister.'
