Fandom A Time of Need: BOTW Post Ganon AU (with Icee)

Radiance of Tomorrow
Silence filled the Sanctum of the Castle as the last hint of Calamity Ganon faded away from existence.

Defeating Calamity Ganon was supposed to be a joyous occasion, one that was cause for a celebration, yet it was far from it. The four champions stood behind the hero of Hyrule who was on their knees cradling something in their arms. Within his arms laid the lifeless body of the Hylian Princess Zelda. Somber filled each of their faces as no words were shared, each of them feeling guilt for what has happened.

The battle wasn't looking good for the champions. Despite having the power of the Divine Beasts, Ganon was much stronger than anyone had predicted. The fighting was unrelenting as the Princess could do nothing but watch as the others fought for her sake. With each moment that passed, death was only becoming more inevitable for the group that refused to back down. 'Please Goddess Hylia, lend me your strength'

Watching her knights actions, she could see that Link was growing tired with each swing of the sword. Her eyes scanned the room as she could do nothing while everyone was fighting for her sake. Her fists clenched tightly at her side as she closed her eyes tightly wishing this would all be over, if only she could use her power that remained dormant within her.

Her eyes opened once more seeing Link taking a blow from Ganon. While it wasn't deadly, Zelda knew that he wouldn't fair too well with another blow like that. Tears filled the corner of her eyes, her fists clenching so hard, her hands started to bleed with her nails digging into the skin. Zelda knew that Link was unwilling to give up, even if it meant giving up his life for her. Knowing this, Zelda could never let him sacrifice himself for her. He was the hero that Hyrule needed, she was nothing more than a heir to a throne of nothingness.

Everything began to happen in slow motion. Her eyes blinked as Ganon was preparing another big blow aimed directly for Link. Glancing to others, all of them were each facing their own battles all of them unable to direct their attention away to give aid to Link. Without hesitation, Zelda made a vow to herself, not to let Link sacrifice himself for her. "No!!" Her voiced echoed in the room as the princess pushed her knight out of the way, raising her right hand that began to glow bright. The power that had rested dormant within her began to glow bright. The light beam that had been aimed at Link hit the princess just as her power took over. Within seconds, blood began to soak through her white dress. Her body was doing everything it could to stand tall long enough to seal Ganon away.

With each passing moment, she could feel the life draining from her body as her knees were becoming weak. Her gaze turned back to Link as she could only force a small smile to him before she couldn't stand no more. Once Ganon was finally sealed away, the princess' eyes fluttered closed as her body collapsed, the life completely drain from her as her body laid motionless on the ground.

Two of the Champions stood behind the knight, knowing he was the one who was feeling the most grief for the lost of the Princess. Mipha looked upon the Princess' face as she did her best to keep the tears back that threatened to fall down. It was too late now. No matter how much she desperately wanted it to work, Mipha's Grace would not be able to save the Princess. Her gaze then turned to the one from Rito Village. Revali was uncharacteristically somber, as if he almost sympathized for the young hero who lost the person he was supposed to protect. The group stood quietly taking a moment of silence to honor the life of the Hylian Princess. As if all of them were afraid to be the first one to speak.

Urbosa and Daruk were also gathered beside the other two Champions. By some miracle, the Champions were each able to gather their own strength and defeat the Blight Ganons that had invaded their Divine Beasts. With a bit of help from Link and Zelda, all 4 managed to survive though they had all been wounded. Despite this, everyone was still well enough to make the final push to Hyrule Castle to weaken the Calamity so it could be sealed once and for all. However, the Divine Beasts alone were not enough. Additional power had still been needed, despite Link's best efforts to fight Ganon on his own with the Master Sword. That additional power...was something only Zelda could provide. And provide it she would, despite it coming at the cost of her own life due to the fact that the Calamity ended up being much stronger and harder to seal than anyone had anticipated. Yet the deed was done. Peace was restored to Hyrule, yet at the cost of its princess...

Neither the Goron nor the Gerudo wanted dare be the first ones to break the silence, watching Link look blankly at the princess's body - the body of the one that he was sworn to protect. Both of the Champions could tell that Link was holding back his tears. In spite of everything, Link was still the sworn hero. Out of them all, he shouldn't be the one to break down. Yet, Urbosa could especially tell that the boy was at his limits. It was only a matter of time before the inevidable. Yet she gently motioned for Daruk to stand down when the Goron started to step forward toward the hero.
"Don't." the Gerudo finally spoke quietly. "We need to give him his space and time to greive."
Daruk seemed disappointed at this statement, giving a look of disappointment and confusion at the Gerudo's words.
"But Urbosa, he could use someone with him right now. Shouldn't someone--"
Urbosa shook her head, not wanting the Goron to continue to speak and interrupt the moment. Luckily, Daruk was in compliance and just backed off, yet still looked at Link and Zelda in disappointment. Urbosa also closed her eyes, a bit shocked herself that this was the end result. Peace had been restored, yet their Little Bird had fallen in order to acheive that peace.

Link didn't even register the mumbling from Daruk and Urbosa, let alone any of the Champions' movemwnts. His body was shaking a bit as he held Zelda's body. He had failed. He failed in the duty that King Roham had entrusted him with - protecting Zelda. He wondered if he had only not been so careless, if he had taken more care in avoiding those last few blows, maybe he would have been able to weaken the Calamity a bit more. Maybe Zelda would not have had to use so much power and she would still be alive to enjoy the peace they all worked so hard to earn. This was his fault. Her death was his fault. What was worse is that he was going to have to explain to the king and then everyone in Hyrule of his mistake. Tell them how he failed in his apppointed task and duty. How his recklesness had costed Hyrule their princess and costed all of them a dear friend. Yet, for the moment, he he held his tears back. He still had to be strong somehow. Even though it was likely entirely useless...
