Republic City - a city that has served as a refuge for benders and nonbenders alike for nearly a century. Avatar Korra and her wife, Asami, kept the city alive and peaceful during Korra's time alive, but her time on this planet has ended, and a new avatar has been born. However...there's just one problem with that: the new avatar seems to have vanished, similar to Aang nearly two hundred years ago. The very day after Korra's death, the council set out on their mission to identify the new avatar. They checked all over Republic City, but found nothing. They worked their way through the Earth Kingdom, visiting family after family after family, but still, nothing. The council was sure that they must have missed something; that the avatar had been right under their noses that whole time, but they were starting to run out of time. See, even though all was good in Republic City, things in the Fire Nation were...less than ideal.
It's no secret that many citizens of the Fire Nation feel as though their, ahem, less than humane "traditions" had been stripped from them, and sought to bring it back. There had been many groups who rose to power with the intent to do just that, but none succeeded. Their mistake? They were too public about their intentions. They were so obvious with their plan that it was almost easy to shut them down before any real damage had been done. But this new group was smart. They did most of their assembling and planning under the host of darkness, in secret. They had a fool-proof plan that they had spent years perfecting, and many intelligent people playing into their plans. They were successful. A month ago, Fire Lord Ursa was overthrown, and for the first time, the Fire Nation is being governed by a group of people.
The world needs the avatar more than ever, so the council has sent out a group of talented benders and nonbenders to find them. This is where our story begins.
