Cassidy awoke that morning feeling incredibly tired, she spent most of her time the night before going through files to make sure that the morning was easier. While it usually made things easier, it did not help the fact that she was absolutely exhausted. She let out a yawn as she made her way out of her bedroom, stretching her arms up before quickly making a cup of coffee. She would flip on the TV just to listen to it mostly, smiling as the lady spoke about the storm last night. It definitely made it hard to concentrate on everything she needed to.

She was actually glad that it was going to be clear today, she really didnโ€™t like to walk to work in the rain. She lived in the forest and a bit away from work, it was nice to be in the forest where she could hear the animals and kind of just take in nature. It was also how she would keep from running into their pesky mayor, who would often annoy her to no end. After the lady had finished talking, there was some show on that she was not even paying attention to. While she was cooking some eggs and a piece of toast, she flipped it off.

She looked up at the clock, it was definitely time for her to start making her way towards work. She decided to eat her eggs real quick, grabbing the files and eating her toast while she walked. Her house was small and quaint, perfect for a single woman like her. She had a bookshelf that was lined with medical books and some were more advanced than what she was trained for. At one point she wanted to be a doctor, but being a nurse seemed to suit her a little better.

As she walked along the way, she would often waive to different people who she saw. There was always a smile and a friendly way about her. She was very soft-spoken most of the time, but if she felt like somebody was being treated in justly, then she would definitely be a little less soft-spoken.

Before long she finally arrived at the clinic, she unlocked the door and walked in shutting it behind her. She began to do her work so that the doctor could do their work, which usually was organizing files and appointments for the day. Occasionally she would have to go out to see somebody at their home when the doctor was busy, but she really didnโ€™t mind especially when it came to the children. This allowed her to get to know each and every child who came along, she definitely could not wait to eventually have children of her own.

Even before the news began, Marina was awake and getting started on her day. She tried to wake early so she had time before school began to get things done, and today she had succeeded! She loved her students, but also loved being able to have a bit of quiet in her day. Marina's glaze flicked towards the small window in her kitchen, as if to confirm what the meteorologist had said to be true. The rain had been intense. She hoped the little cat was okay...

Rising from her chair, Marina left her coffee cup on the table and hustled towards the fridge, pulling a small container out, and headed to her backyard. She opened the container and set it down on the grass, a few feet away from a small dish filled with water. It seemed the little gray cat that lived in her yard wasn't around yet. Marina wondered sometimes if she should give the cat a name.

She stood there for far too long thinking about it before realizing she had left the television on, and she needed to get going. Marina went back inside, turned her television off, quickly rinsed out her mostly-empty cup, and pulled on a long, light gray coat and a pair of light beige slip-on shoes before gathering her school materials and leaving the house, locking it as she left. She didn't live too far into the woods, mostly because she wanted to be close to school, so luckily it wasn't an especially long walk. Typically, she only saw a few people on her way to school.

Once Marina arrived at the schoolhouse, she hung up her coat and set her bag down, beginning to sweep the floor of the spacious room. It was a bit old, and she didn't see anything on the floor, but old buildings just tended to collect dust and dirt. She swept the particles towards the door and opened the door wide open, waiting for any particularly early children to arrive. School wasn't due to start for some time, but often the children arrived early to play with each other, or their parents would come to ask Marina a question or inform her their child would be out of school for whatever reason. Resting the broom back in its place on the wall near her desk, Marina wrote the date on the blackboard and then took her seat behind her desk, opening up a novel to read until students arrived.

Adelaide

Before moving to Maple, Adelaide was a very deep sleeper. She learned to tune noises out; The clatter of pots in the morning, the screeching of her siblings and the arguments of her parents. It was all white noise to her back then; an ambience on top of the singing birds and the beeping of car horns. Now that she was in Maple? That was thrown out the window.

Adelaide had gone to bed relatively early. Sheโ€™d finished tending to her animals, attempted to hoe her little vegetable plot and even made herself a little supperโ€” All to be woken up at five Am when her elderly dog, Duke, began sounding off an alarm that would make people think that a war was happening. With farm life, Adelaide had learned that her sleeping schedule would change. She was up at the crack of dawn, usually around six am, and her day would begin from there all the way through until her head hit her soft pillow at ten Pm- or so she tried. Despite living in a busy area during her childhood, sleeping through most noises, the creak of her door would now have her sitting upright, book in hand ready to throw at any assailant that may be creeping their way through her lovely cottage.

At this point, Adelaide had wiped the sleep from her eyes and, begrudgingly, slipped out of her bed to calm her dog down.

Duke was lovely, yet mischievous. His beautiful coat of white and black had greyed over the years; showing his age. Despite being an old soul, he definitely didnโ€™t feel his age often. He had continued to bark at the window; ears pulling back and paws set firmly on her wooden floor. Duke sensed a threat and he was going to make sure he scared it away!

Another flash lit up outside, illuminating the room for a small second before the roaring rumble of thunder roamed over, sending Duke into another frenzied barking fit while Adelaide rubbed at her head with a grimace.

However it was as she walked towards her window to bring Duke back to a halt, another flash flickered and she was faced with the outline of a person outside of her window peering in like a peeping tom.
Adelaide let out a small scream, dashing for her book that sat on her bedside table. Well if someone was peeping at her, they were going to get a book at the head and a dog at their heels.

By the time sheโ€™d shoved her feet into her wellingtons and donned the closest jacket on her coat hangers, Duke was already scratching at her door to be released, and she did just that all while following in pursuit.
โ€œExcuse me!โ€ Adelaide yelled as loud as she could, raising her book above her head as she pulled her arm back to throw it. โ€œYou canโ€™t just go around looking through peopleโ€™s windows!โ€ She finally let her hand release the book in a defiant throw; watching as it whizzed in the air and bonk the figure right on the head, falling into a puddle of mud.

Adelaide reached up to brush her wet locks away from her eyes, cursing herself for not grabbing a hat too. It was during that moment that she noticed that the figure fell to the side as Duke tackled it, stiffly. That was no human, it was the scarecrow sheโ€™d positioned ready for the morning. Great.

The events had set out most of the morning, Adelaide had stayed up to tend to her scarecrow, fixing its arm where Duke had pulled the stuffing out, and trying to dry out the book sheโ€™d all but ruined- A borrowed book from the library. Today was going to be nothing short of a headache, she could feel it coming on already. The news report sounded in the background as she nursed her fatigue with a cup of tea, already eight and she hadnโ€™t even started on planting her strawberries or other crops.

โ€œWell Duke,โ€ Adelaide sighed at her two person table, fingering her piece of toast on a plate. โ€œWe royally made fools of ourselves today.โ€ Duke whined beside her, nestling his head against her feet.

โ€œHow about we start the day over and get some work done?โ€ Adelaide pushed her plate away, getting to her feet and retreating to her room to finally get dressed.

When she finally stepped outside with Duke again, Adelaide smiled. Despite enjoying the rain, she didnโ€™t miss the sniffling sheโ€™d been doing earlier. She also didnโ€™t miss how horrible her hair had felt after getting drenched. Adelaide hoped she wouldnโ€™t come down with a cold but until then, it was full power mode. Dressed in her sunflower wellies, blue and white overalls and a quaint sunhat, Adelaide pushed on with planting her strawberries. Sheโ€™d check out her barn later and do the clearing up once finished with planting. Secretly she was building courage to return to the library with the ruined book.

Fiona wakes up to the sound of chirping birds by the trees next to the town square, one eye still mostly closed. She groans as she drags herself out of bed. Last night's thunderstorm kept her up for far too long... She barely managed to sleep. The noise was unbearable, and she remembers feeling her heart pounding through her chest at every rip of thunder. When it all subsided, it felt like she only closed her eyes for a minute before she opened them up again.

"At least it's not summer yet," she thought as she brushed her hair - her bedhead was fierce this morning. Summer is indeed the worst season for storms. Fiona rather prefers autumn, for its coolness, heartwarming coffee and scarves, boots, layers... The crisp sound of dried leaves under her feet... Half lost in thought, she looks at the clock. She gasps and her eyes widen up.

"8:16?! Oh nooo...!"

She quickly puts her hair up into a messy bun, dresses up in a flash (of thunder?) and rolls down the stairs leading from her living area down to the main floor where the cafรฉ is laid out, flipping the CLOSED sign to OPEN.

Cafรฉ C'est la vie
Closed on Sundays and on Festival days
Hours:
Monday through Saturday 8am - 3pm
She unlocks the front door and leaves it open by just a bit, so the air can flow in and freshen up the place. The breeze is cool, yet bearable for this early in Spring. She then moves over to each window to pull the curtains aside, letting the sunshine in. As she heads back to her counter and workstation, she grabs a few scoops of coffee beans and throws them in the grinder. She takes a second to put some quiet, easy listening jazz on her programmable radio.

While the machine works its magic, she takes her tiny watering can and pours water over a select few plants that needed to drink that day. There are many scattered all over the shop. This barista here loves plants; the more green there is around her, the better. She's not as skilled as the farmers of the village, granted, but she still has a fairly decent green thumb. And the farmers do sometimes give her advice on how to care for her "babies". People are so kind here. Back in the city, it was rare to see warm smiles or happy faces: everyone was absorbed with things they didn't care about, doing jobs they didn't want to do, forever stuck in a pointless loop of opposition to what they truly want. Definitely not Fiona's cup of... coffee.

The grinder is done. She goes back to transfer the ground coffee in filters and starts 3 fresh pots. Two for customers, and one for herself. She then proceeds to give a good wipe to each table, sets utensils down in proper fashion, and starts sweeping the floor while waiting for customers to come in.

The morning air was cool against his cheek as Marcus stepped outside of his home. Birds sang to each other, celebrating the end of what had felt like an eternal winter; in all his years, he could have sworn he'd had never seen as much snow as he had this year. Honestly, when he heard the news that the thunderstorm the previous night had wiped out all the snow, he almost laughed, but now that he was outside and looking around, he was stunned that the weatherman had spoken the truth; the cobblestone was still slick with water and there were no traces of white to be seen. Strangely impressed, he shook his head as the corner's of his lips perked upward. Turning around carefully (in one hand was his precious but bulky pet carrier, containing three of his dwarf rabbits), he swiftly locked his door before walking down the steps of his porch.

Marcus lived within the small village, his home about a stone's throw away from his work. As nice as living out in the wilderness was, being in charge of the police meant that it was better for him to be located closer to the job, especially in a village so small. Living so close also meant being late was rarely a concern, so that was a bonus.

Much like any morning, Marcus made his way to the local cafรฉ; he didn't start work until 8:30, so he was grateful that Fiona opened so early. As usual, the front door was ajar, and gentle, soothing jazz was trickling out into the world. A nice touch. Finding himself smiling at the little pleasure, he stepped up to the door, knocking gently before stepping in. "Good morning, and Happy New Year!" Marcus greeted the woman as he stepped inside, "That was quite a storm last night, eh?" He tutted. Making his way to the table closest to the door, he set the pet carrier on one of the two chairs. "And, uh... Could I get a coffee, please? Maybe some pancakes and a lil something for these guys?" He added with a sheepish smile. No matter how many times he ordered something, he couldn't help but feel incredibly awkward.

6am: Alexandre wakes up to the sound of the nearby river connecting to the sea further down. The same as every morning; the storm from the night before did not bother him one bit. He takes a moment to stretch and then gets up to make his bed. He looks out the window, down at the patch of grass that he finished clearing up the day before.

This house is perfect for him: the land is of good quality and the presence and sound of the river is comforting. It is also practical: for all the forging he does, it's very useful to have such a plentiful resource of water nearby. The cooling process of steel is much faster, and overall saves quite a bit of time. And sometimes, when he needs to ease out of his thoughts, he can spend an entire afternoon fishing in its waters.

His plan for that piece of land? To make a little garden to be set up near his weeping willow. A bird fountain would lie in the center, along with a tiny pond where frogs could come to croak about. He could have a part of the shop redone, even! Every morning since he got the idea, looking out that window, Alexandre can't help but imagine what it will look like once everything is planted and installed. Surely it will be a beautiful sight, and he hopes butterflies will also come over. Usually, he would simply wander off into nature to spot them and check them off in his encyclopedia, but this year he wanted to try something different. He has spent many evenings this past Winter studying which flowers to pick to attract them, how to lay them out, and how to avoid damaging the tree throughout the process. The garden is going to be fantastic!

"Enough dreaming for now though," he thinks. "Time to work." Putting together a quick breakfast, he scarfs it down on the way downstairs to the shop to review the orders he has for the day. Very few for the time being, mostly just sharpening. "Very well, perhaps I'll have time to drop by the village sometime in the afternoon, get a bit of shopping done..."

He continues to wander in his thoughts as he prepares his shop for the day. He flips his shop's sign from CLOSED to OPEN.

Fiona turns around, recognizing the familiar voice and looks towards the door smiling. "Marcus! Happy New Year, and good morning to you too! Ready to take on the day?"

She puts the broom aside and struts over to her counter. "Some storm you say! I pretty much spent the night awake... Thunder makes me so nervous and... Jumpy." She looks embarrassed for a second. "Sorry about opening late, by the way. I hope you hadn't been waiting too long?" She then perks back up and says, "oh, right - one coffee coming right up, I literally popped it in just a few minutes ago! You can't get fresher than that! It'll be just a few more for the pancakes, alright?" She maintains conversation as she prepares his coffee. "I have a few choices for your fluffy companions, would they prefer apples, bananas? I have some lettuce too but since it's the New Year I figure we can spoil them a bit - what do you think?"

She reaches for one of her mini fridge doors and brings out the pancake mix she prepped the night before, warming up the cooking plaques. Those rabbits are so cute! It seemed unorthodox at first to see them come in with Marcus, but it didn't take long for Fiona to grow accustomed to the lot of them. She liked to give them little pets as they munched on whichever treat she brought out. She pours the mix on the hot plaque and starts flipping gradually.

Back in the city, people like Fiona, baristas (and others in the service industry), see a lot of people come and go. They have plenty of time to notice things; and Marcus had always seemed like an intriguing person. There was something about him that she couldn't quite put a finger on... He was always so reserved. Seemed to keep mostly to himself. It was definitely a contrast for her, considering that back home, the police officers you saw weren't ones you would call reserved... Or anything remotely close. She grew to like Marcus in spite of his apparent clumsiness or awkwardness and never dared to ask about any of it. It didn't matter, anyway. You could tell he had his heart in the right place. It was reassuring to know that someone like him was in charge of the safety of the village.

"Almost ready!"

Ryan did not have a chance to look at the news or know what the weather was like that morning except for what he was currently witnessing. He was asleep on the bench in the town square, he had fallen asleep with a book on his face. He worked a lot, as the townโ€™s only pharmacist he was constantly making medications for everybody. He loved his job, it kept him quite happy to make medicines that would help people but in the same breath it also made him rather tired. In fact a lot of the time he could be seen on this bench taking a nap, when he wasnโ€™t working.

He could hear the town starting to move around, the wind gently moved around his white lab coat and caused him to let out a small noise. With a small sigh he sat up, stretching his arms up as he quickly moved himself into a sitting position. He looked at his watch and then smiled glad that it was late enough that he could grab some coffee, goodness knows he was going to need some.

He quickly got up from his spot on the bench, making his way toward the cafรฉ with books in hand. He was always carrying around books about different mixtures of medicines. He walked into the cafรฉ and gave a warm smile to everybody who is in there, he is a friendly guy who is rather charming in his own way but he was never arrogant about it. โ€œGood morning, everybody!โ€ He said quickly as he reached behind him and scratched the back of his head. โ€œIโ€™m going to need something strong today! When youโ€™re done with his of course!โ€

Steven was sleeping rather nicely that morning, but of course he had to have a quick rude awakening when Gracie came running into the room and quickly jumped on top of him. โ€œUncle Steve! Wake up! Iโ€™m going to be late for school!โ€ She quickly yelled at him, before sitting down on the side of the bed staring at him until finally he opened his eyes. The man let out a sigh as he looked over at the little girl, quickly nodding at her. She quickly got excited and ran out of the room again which allowed him to finally get out of bed.

He got himself dressed and quickly turned on the TV just to check what was going on with the weather. The storm last night was kind of bothersome, but mostly because it made Gracie climb in bed with him part of the night and she would always kick him in the face while she slept. It made him smile to see that the storm seemed to be gone, so maybe tonight would be easier to get some sleep. For now he had a lot to do, first he had to drop off Gracie and then head over to the town center to do some paperwork.

There always seemed to be some kind of complaints coming in or something new the townspeople wanted, he was only too happy to oblige, but it always seemed like they were running out of money. On top of that there was some secret that he was keeping from the people, the neighboring city wanted to run a railway station through their town so that people could come visit. With this it would mean a lot of tourism and maybe even some more money coming into their town. This also meant they could be welcoming trouble, but what kind of trouble he had no idea.

โ€œIโ€™m ready!โ€ He was quickly interrupted from his thoughts as Gracie was at the door with her backpack and he grabbed his briefcase making his way towards the door. They quickly left, he could easily just let her walk to school by herself but one time they had been having a talk and she had mentioned how important it was to her that he go with her at least part of the way so he had agreed. Usually he just walked her the whole way, after all he didnโ€™t mind seeing the cute schoolteacher.

It was not a long walk and they arrived at the school, Gracie absolutely loved their she absolutely loved learning and loved her teacher. It made Steve pretty happy to see her so happy, they quickly walked in Gracie ran up to her teacher. โ€œHi Miss Marina!โ€

It was a super good day yesterday. Adam woke up and yawned, getting up from his bed. He made it quickly and went to brush his teeth. It had been a bit early, he was usually a late riser. His mom was already awake, sorting a new shipment of flowers downstairs. Adam called to his mom โ€œMomma, iโ€™m awake!โ€ And she called back โ€œOkay! Come down after your finished!โ€ And he nodded. Today heโ€™d go on an walk after school. At least thatโ€™s he planned, anyways...he quickly got dressed and took his lucky ring, put it on, and went downstairs.

His mom, Isabelle, waved at him after sorting some roses. She was getting the hang of her new job, a flower shop girl, and saw that he was smelling some Rhododendrons. They smelled good... Adam was caught off guard after a good 10 minutes. โ€œAdam!โ€ Isabelle scolded. โ€œGet to school!โ€ And he jumped. โ€œBye Mom! See you!โ€ He said, grabbing his bag, and running outside. He looked around frantically and saw some other kids, and ran as fast as he could. His school was a good distance away.

Only a few children had arrived so far, Marina noticed as she glanced at the clock. It was getting closer and closer to when school began, but she had grown to expect some children to be late. It seemed most of them helped their parents during the spring and summer. She slipped a red rose-patterned bookmark into her book and set it back down into her bag. It wasn't... exactly appropriate for children to see, anyway.

Her timing was excellent, as no sooner had she started to head towards the door to check on her students did she see Gracie and Mayor Jones arriving. Smiling brightly, Marina knelt down to greet the little girl enthusiastically before rising to her (somewhat diminutive) full height to smile a bit less warmly, but still politely, at the Mayor. "Good morning, Mayor Jones," she greeted, nodding her head towards him. "Thank you for walking Gracie to school today. It's always nice to see you here."

It always worried her when the little ones came by themselves. And so many of them were so little! Of course, the area was so isolated it felt safe, but Marina's parents had been so paranoid about safety they'd never allowed her to go to school by herself. That trait had absolutely been passed down to her.

She let her eyes flick away from the Mayor to peer at the schoolyard behind them, scanning the yard for any stragglers. Well... maybe she'd give them a few more minutes. She didn't have anything difficult planned for today, anyway, so it might be best to let them enjoy some extra time outside.

Cassidy had begun to fix the clinic up for the morning, getting herself dressed in nurseโ€™s uniform. She put some coffee on, before grabbing her clipboard and checking a few things. She smiled to herself as she thought about her friend Adelaide, it definitely would be a good idea to stop by and see how she was doing, maybe give the dog a checkup. She knew how much she loved the dog, so it was important for her to make sure she kept on that. After she finished the coffee, she set it down before sitting at her desk to write down a letter for when the doctor got in.

She set the letter with the coffee onto the table before she put on her coat, locking the clinic up again and making sure she had her papers with her. She was glad the farm was not too far away, after all she already had a long walk this morning coming from her own house. The walk was never a bad one though, she was a bit hesitant about what the mayor was always doing. She made it known that she had no interest in him whatsoever, in fact she didnโ€™t care for him at all.

While she walked, she hummed a little tune to herself and smiled as she would pass people watching them carefully. She found it interesting to watch people in their daily routines, she hung out mostly with Adelaide and Marina, although she knew everybody in the village. She had treated most of them with the doctor in one form or another. She let out a soft sigh when she saw the house in sight, it felt really good to finally have arrived.

โ€œAdelaide!โ€ Cassidy waved towards her friend and Duke, as she dredged towards them, panting just a little bit mostly from the little bit of humidity that was hanging in the air. โ€œI came to check up on Dukeโ€ฆ. And also see how you are doing today!โ€

Steve always found himself a little flustered when Marina was around, although he was rather good at hiding it. โ€œGood morning, Miss Marinaโ€ฆ. I hope you are doing well this morning!โ€ He tried to give her his best smile, which usually was very charming but there was something that was always very honest in his smile when it came to her. โ€œI always enjoy the walk to school with her, I hope she will be on her best behavior today!โ€ He looked over at Gracie who was in the process of greeting her friend Adam.

โ€œHey Adam! Iโ€™m excited about school? Excited to learn? I wonder what were going to learn today?โ€ Gracie always seemed to bombard people with questions which would often leave them overwhelmed and thatโ€™s when Steve gently put a hand on her shoulder, to try to calm her down just a little bit. โ€œI know youโ€™re excited! But please, give him a chance to answer one of your questionsโ€ฆ.. Donโ€™t forget what we talked about!โ€ Gracie quickly nodded her head, she just couldnโ€™t help it she was really happy when she got to hang out with her friends.

Steve went back over to talk to the teacher, or more like flirt with her in his own way. He was about to anyways, but then he noticed the time and he let out a rather heavy sigh. โ€œIf you have any problems, you know where to find me and Iโ€™ll be back to pick her up.โ€ He turned to leave, but at the same time he turned back around to speak to her once more. Before quickly snapping his fingers and turning back around once more, waving his hands above his head.

He never could understand why he couldnโ€™t just ask her if she wanted to hang out or just have dinner with him, it wasnโ€™t like he was asking her to marry him. In fact was it even a date? At this point, when everything would eventually be revealed he doubted anybody would want to be even friends with him. It wasnโ€™t as though he agreed to allow the railroad to come into the town, at least not yet. He still had a meeting with the people who wanted to happen, he couldnโ€™t help but feel like this was the best thing for their little place.

It did not take him very long at all to arrive at the town hall and he quickly walked in, making his way to the office before closing the door and laying his head down on the desk. He just needed a moment to think, he needed to be able to just know what was best for the village at this time. There little place was growing by leaps and bounds, it was his job to see to it that as things grew that they had the proper buildings to keep it going.

With her seeds planted and her scarecrow finally set up, Adelaide had time to finally take a moment to examine her work and breathe a sigh of relief. Despite having an uncanny start, she'd managed to get right on top of things and get most of her days work done. Thoroughly looking forward to the new year, Adelaide couldn't wait for her seeds to spring forth into some beautiful crops-- Hopefully she would have a good harvest this season so she could share with her friends and earn a little more money so she could save up for the ducks that she really wanted. The thought of her new ducks, however far on the horizon, brought her back to the fact she didn't have a pond yet; Something she really wanted to make a reality for her little farm.

Removing her sunhat from her head, Adelaide brushed the perspiration from her brow and dirtied her forehead from her soil smeared gloves; evidence of hard work. Surely it would be okay to take a little break before tending to her chickens, she had the whole day ahead of her after all. The bark next to her was the first alert she had to someone being on her property and once she looked in the direction that Duke was enthusiastically barking in, Adelaide smiled. She loved the company of her friends, and Cassidy was one of those that she adored. Her smile turned into a full-fledged grin and Adelaide lifted her arm, waving frantically at her best friend.
"Cass!" She bellowed back, skipping the remainder of the way to meet her friend, Duke happily trotting beside her. "Aw did you hear that Duke?" Adelaide reached down and gently rubbed her dog between his ears; ruffling his fur about while he gave a happy little bark. "We're doing pretty good. Had a rough start this morning with the thunder but we're both A-okay now!" She flicked her thumb up, giving a hearty smile while doing so.

It was the quick risings of Cassidy's chest that gave away her panting, as well as the shortness of breath, and Adelaide soon frowned. She always forgot her farm was a decent walk from the village and she even got fatigued from walking back. God only know how Cassidy felt. "C'mon Cass, let's go inside and get you something to drink." Adelaide linked her arm with Cassidy's and began to escort her towards the cottage door, making sure to go at a slow pace.
Once inside her little cottage, Duke instantly retreated to his dog bed that lay beside the bedroom door. The red material was quite plush and comfortable; exactly what he needed for in his old age. His head rested on the side of his bed while his eyes lazily watched the two ladies go about their business.
Adelaide pulled out one of the seats at her table for Cass to sit at while she fussed at her small kitchen; brewing some water in her floral kettle. "Would you like tea or coffee?" She asked, glancing behind her shoulder at Cass while removing her gloves and placing them on her counter top.

Jared Henderson
Village Carpenter

A storm had struck Mapletree village yesterday, as reported on the weather newscast. Fortunately, the home of the Henderson's family is one of the most sturdiest well-structured homes in Mapletree thanks to Jared's mastered skills of his craft. The storm only felt like a mere drizzle to the household, a slight temperature change where his family slept through the night comfortably.

Morning came to the village of Mapletree. The sun rises to shine it's rays into windows of the people's homes, the birds chirped into a melody to bask in the morning rays and the people have risen from their sleep to start a new day ahead of them. Jared is too apart of this morning awakening. Starting as early as 5AM in the morning, Jared is already in the kitchen preparing breakfast for the boys. It's a quiet morning for his family, Jared is the only one awake to help his family start the day. Thirty minutes later, Jared's triplet sons have made their way downstairs. Ready to start another day of school. The dining/kitchen area has all the boys quietly eating together at the family table. One would expect chatter from the triplets but no. They just sat and eat with their father whom was on the other side of the table reading a hardbound leathery notebook of some kind, personal notes of something. Preparations in the house goes by like flowing river, there is little to no delay when it comes to preparations.

"You ready, boys?"

"Ready!!!"

The last thing the house will hear before it falls silent all over again. Jared would always ask his sons if they are ready to leave the house and the boys will always answer in unison. The sun has risen over the horizon. Jared and his sons have now left the house alone with their lovely mother still asleep. As much as he hates delivering the boys to school himself, he cannot ignore the fact that his sons will cause trouble again, if he is not around to prevent it, at some point he has got to do something about it but for now, he has the responsibility to bring his children to school for the sake of everyone else. The boys are dressed in their respective primary colors and Jared's heading to work on a new project after he sends his little handful of chaotic triplets to the school.

"This is my stop, you boys be good okay?"

"You got it! Pops!"
"We will take your word as the law, Father."
"C'mon Dad! What's the wooorst that could happen?"

Normally, Jared would leave the boys by the school yard but he got a little extra mile to leave them by the classroom door step. The walking distance between the house and the school was slightly farther than normal but the boys have no complain walking to school at such a distance. The boys arrived to class 2 minutes before class starts. Jared noticed the room teacher, Marina Yi is present along with the other children. He gave a gentle smile at the teacher followed with a nod.

"Good morning, Ms. Marina. I'm sorry for interrupting, i'll be leaving the boys here. Don't give your teacher a headache, boys."

The man reminded the boys chaotic potential to ease down. In all honesty, even with that reminder, this will not stop the triplets into stepping out of his word. Leaving the boys to their teacher, he left without another word. He heads back to his home without much of a conversation to anyone. Until his eyes are set upon a familiar shop that he has visited before. The blacksmith's shop, now open for business. Jared took a different direction to his home just for a fun little stroll around the village. Come to think of it, he thought he might find something interesting in the blacksmith shop. Stopping exactly at it's shop entrance. Jared was about to ring the door bell until he read a sign that made him chuckle. An instructional sign for the doorbell but with a direct warning for his triplet sons. He rung the door bell 3 times, waiting for someone to answer the door.

Colin, Ryan and Wayne Henderson
Jared's Boys

Left with their teacher and classmates. The three had somewhat eerie grins on their faces despite the fact that it's the same look they gave their old man. Each had their signature belongings in their hands. Colin's Abacus, Ryan's Hardbound spiral notebook and Wayne's Rubik's cube. Lined up side to side like fresh recruit cadets.

"Good morning, Ms. Marina! You look great today!"

The triplets said in unison before taking their respective seats. The boys were always looking clean and proper just like there father, they could be mistaking as children living in luxuries. Their attention is diverted to their items in hand, Colin started to swipe the pieces of the abacus left and right to calculate who knows what, Ryan is sketching a bunch of shapes in his notebook for some reason and Wayne? attempting to beat his own record of solving the cube faster than before which is why the speed of his hands are fast but doesn't seem to be solving it any day.

Adam waved at Gracie. โ€œHey Gracie!โ€ He smiled. โ€œHowโ€™re you?โ€ He asked. Gracie was the Niece of the Mayor, so he had to be polite. โ€œMaybe weโ€™ll learn some math today!โ€ He said, setting down his bag. His bag contained his drawing pad, his colored pencils, and some lip balm. He pulled out his lip balm, and applied it to his lips.

He noticed Wayne, Ryan, and Colin, and waved politely. Adamโ€™s bag smelt like flowers, from his moms shop. With a little tear, from accidentally hitting it on a tree when drawing once. When he was running. Adam fixed his hairm then looked at Gracie. โ€œI like your hair.โ€ He said to her.

Maximiilian pulled up into the driveway of his new house "Gorgeous!" He shouted, opening his door and hopping out quickly. He went around to the bed of the truck and opened it up letting the five big dogs hop down, he helped poor old teddy down even though he almost broke his back doing so. Then he walked to the back door and opened up letting Tiny out and scooping up little Ash. He put two fingers to his mouth and whistled to get the dogs' attention, and they followed him into the house.

He opened the door and looked took in his new home for a second. He set Ash down on the floor, letting her go sniff out the new environment with the rest of the pack. After he let them explore for about an hour, he whistled again and all the dogs came running, except Ash. He knelt down to eye level with King's mean mug. "Where's Ash?" Hearing the verbal cue, King padded back into the living room and trotted back with Ash held in his teeth by the scruff of her neck. He held his hands out to take her and he dropped her into his hands.

"Alright let's leash up and go before we go walking because I don't know the laws here. He grabbed the leashes off of a hook on the wall and hooked one to each dogs collar. "Best behavior, understood?" He then opened the door and walked out with the all the dogs trailing behind him or beside him.

They walked into the heart of the town and Max noticed what looked like a park, so he sat down on the nearest bench and unleashed all the dogs letting them run around and rough house.

In his mind, his garden was blossoming already.

Alexandre was so deep in thought that the bell startled him. After slipping back into reality, he quickly answers "Come in! Oh, Jared, good day, and a happy new year. How are you faring today?" He stands up and walks over to give Jared a handshake - his preferred greeting. His father always said that handshakes tell you all you need to know about a person: wether they're weak or strong, vigorous or lifeless. It's a subtle yet efficient way to get to know someone.

Jared had a helluva good handshake; wouldn't expect any less from such a hardworking carpenter. He was perhaps the only one who could match his strength and skill in the entire village. Alexandre couldn't help but to respect that.

"Caden comes in later on Mondays, but yesterday he dropped by to tell me he scored a nice batch of stones from his last run in the mines. I'm low on ore until then, unfortunately, but I do have a bit of stock left that's available. Looking for anything in particular today?"

"Oh, thank you. I'm doing well. Gracie has been doing a great job listening during class lately!" Marina's smile brightened. She glanced at Gracie and Adam fondly as the two chattered with each other. She wasn't always lucky enough to have kids that got along - she'd had to break up a few fights before this class, but all the children she had now got along for the most part... as well as a bunch of children this young could.

She looked back up when Steve began speaking once more. "Of course. I'll see you this afternoon, have a good day at work." Marina stifled a giggle as Steve left, covering her hand with her mouth in an attempt to stay professional. He was always so awkward around her! Marina would never tell Cassidy, but she kind of thought the mayor was cute, even if he seemed to feel super uncomfortable around her for whatever reason. Maybe he didn't like her perfume, or maybe he thought she was stuck-up or something...? It was hard to tell.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) for her, she had no more time to ruminate over the matter, as her last few students had arrived with their father. "Good morning, Mr. Henderson. You weren't interrupting at all, don't worry," Marina said kindly. "And thank you, Colin, Ryan, and Wayne! You all look very sharp as well!" She smiled at the boys before heading across the room to her desk.

"Class will start soon, so let's all get our pencils and notebooks out, alright? Today, we'll learn some new words, math, and start a new story after lunch!" Marina beamed at her class. "And I know you all remember to put your homework in the baskets on your desk, right?" Today would be a good day, she could feel it!

Maximillian was perfectly content to sit there and let his dogs play for at least an hour, until he happened to check his watch, and was reminded that he had a job! He rounded up his dogs and replaced their leashes, deciding he would just bring them in to work with him, once he found the building. He wandered around the town for a minute before sighing and realizing he hadn't seen anything close to a clinic. He looked over at the building he was currently in front of, 'A blacksmith? That's pretty neat.' He thought extremely impressed.

He snapped his fingers until all the dogs were looking at him. "Sit down." He told them firmly. 7 bottoms flopped onto the pavement. "Very good," he praised them," Now stay." He picked Ash up deciding she was a bit too young to be trusted outside by herself. He held Ash in the crook of one arm and pushed open the door.

"Hey there! Uhm, I'm Maximillian, y'all can call me Max, it's great to meet y'all. Anyways I was wondering if y'all could give me directions to the clinic?" He asked, shifting Ash so she was over his shoulder like an infant.

Every inch of her ached. She knew drinking so much last night was only going to hurt, would only drain her of much-needed energy tomorrow, but nooooo.... Camellia's head panged with every step she took (her sympathies went out to gongs everywhere for she now knew what they felt like) as she slowly but surely shuffled to the pond on the outskirts of her farm, groaning all the way. Once there, she dropped to her knees- cringing when she felt and heard the mud squelch under her weight, dirting her good dungarees - and sighed. Then, she took off her straw sunhat and sunglasses, placing them by her side as she inhaled deeply. She held it in, waiting, closing her eyes and exhaling deeply once more.

Then, suddenly, she plunged her face into the freezing cold water.

For a little while, she remained in place, the occasional bubble escaping her lips and slipping up her face. But, being human, sooner rather than later, she needed to come up for air, and as soon as she felt her lungs begin to burn, she whipped back upright with a loud gasp. The momentum of the movement, however, had her flying backwards on her butt and palms with a squeal. "Oh, sweet Goddess!" She whined, her head tipping backwards. Sheepishly, she lifted a hand, knowing fine well that she had landed in more mud, but she still groaned all the same when she saw it coating her palm and fingers. 'Great...' Cammie huffed as she pushed herself up on her hunkers. Quickly, she shoved her hands into the water, shaking them ferociously before whipping them back out. She stood up, wiping them on her thighs as she pouted, looking over her shoulder at the brown marking now covering her tush. 'Gosh darnit...' It was just like her to get filthy after gardening for the day...

At least she felt a little brighter after that plunge.

Picking up her hat and sunglasses, placing the former atop her soaked hairline and the latter against the bridge of her nose, the redhead made her way back to her home. With the throbbing in her head dulling and her energy retuning, she figured that a bit of foraging and gossip didn't sound like a bad idea. She snatched the flannel shirt from her scarecrow, wrapping it around her waist before grabbing the basket by her cabbage patch. "I'll see you later, my lovelies!~" Camellia hummed to her veggies as she skipped out of her farm, her feet light upon the dirt path made by years of trampling.

Seeing as everyone began their day around now, Cammie first made her way into the village. With no particular aim in mind, she wandered freely, eventually finding herself upon an unfamiliar scene; several dogs were littered around the blacksmith's, their master (she assumed) standing in the doorway. Her brow quirked, and she stood in place for a moment. Tourists were rare around here, and when they came, they were typically looking for a nature trail... So, in hearing that they needed directions to the clinic? Her eyes lit up. They just had to be new!

"Oh hiiiii!" She wasted no time in running over to the stranger, planting herself at his side. "Clinic, you say? I was just about to head there myself! Oh, hello there," she added as she spotted Ash, giving her a gentle smile, letting the pup smell the back of her hand before giving it a pat. Her gaze turned into the shop, "Oh, hi, boys! Happy New Year! I hope you two don't mind me butting in," she offered a shy smile, feigning innocence, before turning back to face Max. "That's Jared and Alexandre. Jared's the older one, but you didn't hear that from me." She whispered with a wink. "Anywho! My name's Camellia, but you can call me Cammie. I can show you the way, no problem!" She offered, "You two can come too, of course! The more, the merrier, I say!" She laughed.

"Thanks Cammie. My name is Maximillian, but Max is easier. It's nice to meet y'all too, Jared and Alexandre. "This baby right here is Ash. And then out there I brought Teddy, King, Fat, Pig, Pier, and Tiny." He said pointing to each of his dogs in turn. "So are y'all all blacksmiths? I wasn't aware that it was still a popular profession." He said as he walked out the door. King started barking at the sight of new people. "King! No sir." Max chastised and King immediately quieted down. "Sorry about him. He's always been a little cautious, but that's not a trait I'd wanna train out of him." He apologized. He put Ash on the ground again, reattaching her leash to her collar.

As Marcus settled into a chair, he couldn't help but smile as Fiona kicked into gear. How she managed the cafรฉ by herself, he had no clue, but it was clear to see that she was extremely passionate about her job, and in turn, it made going there all the more worthwhile.

"No worries, take your time! I'm in no rush," he waved a hand. "Wasn't waiting at all, either." Marcus paused for a second to think. It would be nice to treat his lil buns for the new year, but he'd hate to put Fiona on the spot or put her out of some fruit... But... If she was offering... "Poppy and Silver would appreciate some bananas and grapes if you had them. Bella... Well, you're better off giving her lettuce since she's going on a diet." He said, shaking his head in amusement. Bella, the largest of the three, shifted in her side of the dual-carrier, almost as if to glare at her owner. "If you want, you can make it up to her by-" before he could finish his suggestion of holding the rabbit, the door opened and a new face popped in.

Instantly, Marcus straightened, trying to act like he totally wasn't gushing about his three babies just moments before. Thankfully though, it was just Ryan, and he instantly relaxed. "Mornin', Ryan!" He greeted back before waving his hand again, this time in the direction of Fiona, "Don't worry about me! I can wait. If the man needs a drink, he needs a drink." He said, rubbing the back of his neck with a quiet chuckle. Shifting his elbow to the table, he focused his gaze on Ryan, the heel of his hand resting against his chin. "Did ya have trouble sleeping last night?" He inquired casually, "I think half the town was up with that storm, myself included!"

He looks over Maximillian's shoulder to see Camellia strutting over. "Oh goodness no," he thinks as he pinches the bridge of his nose, almost feeling a headache coming on. Camellia was alright: from a few feet away. Gosh does her voice ever carry so far! She certainly has an impressive... pitch.

Still- his parents raised him right, so he bit his tongue and followed up with a greeting.

"Happy New Year, Camellia. All the best, and may your crops be plentiful." As he shuffles back to his workstation, he finishes with, "now if you'll excuse me." He let out a quiet sigh of relief seeing the newcomer being whisked away - with what seems like 5 or 6 other dogs? - by Camellia. "Have a seat, Jared, if you will." And so he returns to his business.
