The Morning of the Tree Lighting.....
unknown.png

It was the biggest day of the year, the first Saturday of December meant the beginning of all the winter festivities. The town was bustling around like there was no time to waste, they needed to get everything ready before the sunset which was quicker with the time change. They had gotten a light dusting of snow the night before and it just made the town look that much more magical.

The firefighters were hanging up the lights in the town common, the cafe was closing up early and making a obscene amount of hot chocolate for the evening. The Inn was bringing their carriage horses to give free rides for all of the town.

The air was cool and crisp, it wasn’t quite freezing yet but you definitely wanted to grab that jacket heading out the door. Even so, it wasn’t a day you would want to miss. Family near and far to make it home for the tree lighting, to spend the holiday with new and old friends.

Enjoying a night on the common can bring peace to old drama or ignite it all over again. Even with the evening fast approaching there was still so much to do and great ready for.

Clayton Moore
X9746n9BQ8cY5w_7ajOdK2EKUtF-QbdtHaCQkDpE8bJIxcAbaw6YknR-mJOxCvzeP8Ca1-xlbSBARGpgvJeyKRNkUX0kckNOb60sdUpml9gFMU-Nr07lF6OEUUueQIwwXTnvn-Ek

The sliding glass doors opened to the cold crisp air, the sound of the wheels of his luggage dragging against the cement. Clayton took a deep breath in, this was the first time he would be back this year. He had missed so many birthdays, and his parents anniversary. His internship had taken up a lot of time and he had let work get the best of him. He needed this month at home to figure out what he was going to do.

When he felt the plane’s wheels hit the runway, he already felt like he was home. He had loved living in California, it was everything, the warm sun, the beach, surfing, but there was still something missing. Clayton just didn’t know what that was.

Clayton was coming home with a suitcase full of presents and not much else. He felt like he owed them after missing every. Single. Holiday. Holidays were such a big part of the Moore family, any reason for them to all get together and celebrate was a big celebration.

He was excited to see everyone again, his friends that stayed in the town, and those who were coming back to visit like him. He had texted a few people to see what they were up to when he landed, but for the most part, everyone was busy getting ready for the tree lighting that evening.

Clayton hailed a cab rather quickly, he opened the trunk of the cab, laying his rather large suitcase down before getting in the back of the cab himself.

“Where to?” The cab driver looked up at Clayton through his rearview mirror.

“Anchor Bay Port please.” Clayton smiled rubbing his hands together to warm them up. It was easier to have the cab driver navigate to the port, giving people his address always brought them to some deadend that used to bring them to the Moore house. But the failed attempt to industrialize the town caused the road to be cut off, and navigation never updated for the small little town.

------------------------

After an hour long drive from the airport, Clay stepped out of the cab taking in a deep breath of the salty air. The driver pulled Clayton’s luggage from the back, slightly struggling with the heavy bag as he placed it on the ground beside Clayton. Clayton pulled out his wallet, paying for the distance and giving him a tip on top of that.

“Thank you” He smiled and the driver nodded back at him. Clayton dragged his suitcase behind him and took a seat one one of the benches. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees and intertwining his fingers together.

Anyone who didn’t know Clayton would say he looked lost, but in such a small town, everyone knew everyone. And Clayton Moore wasn’t someone you didn’t know, he may not have been been lost physically having practically grown up on the docks themselves. But there was something stirring in his mind.

It was just another year of holiday insanity, the inn was almost as busy as it was in the summers but rather than tourists, it was family and friends who had moved far and came back for the celebration of the tree lighting. She used to love the holiday herself, being the first holiday she got to celebrate with her family, but everything changed and now JC was looking into colleges and she was sure her parents were excited for the day she would move out.

Jessica had been checking in guests all morning, most of them she knew by name. And all of them wanted to do the whole ‘small talk’ thing, which she was not up for. And she was sure if she wasn’t dressed for the job she was at, they would all be avoiding her.

Unfortunately or maybe it was fortunately for her parents, she would be working all night at the tree lighting, helping with the carriage rides. The evening was about celebrating everyone being together, but holidays weren’t fun for her anymore.

The holidays were fun when her friends were around to cause mischief anymore. And any friends that she had left she had cut off just because she didn’t want them to leave her first. Jessica felt like she didn’t have any consistency in her life, even though it was all self inflicted.

Esme
a74e315c-f80b-4953-87ba-9642e75449a7.gif
"Roman!" Esme shoved open the door of her bedroom, scanning over the inside of the room in an attempt to find her little brother. He'd somehow evaded her during a game of hide and seek and now Esme couldn't find him. Most of the time, Roman hid in the exact same place every time, behind the couch in the living room. Esme would kind of wander around for a little before finding him behind the coach and surprising him into a fit of laughter. But today had been different. He wasn't behind the couch and Esme had no idea where he could've gone. The apartment wasn't very big and Esme was beginning to get very worried.

"Rome, buddy, I give up. You win! Come out, please." Esme shouted as she closed the door to her bedroom and continued looking around the apartment. When there was no answer to her yells, she started to have a bit of a panic attack. A bang and a cry from the apartment window startled her into movement as she rushed over to the window with the fire escape outside it. There was Roman, sat on the fire escape just under the window where she couldn't have seen him from the inside without really looking. He was holding his head with crocodile tears flowing down his cheeks. Esme yanked the window open and climbed out onto the fire escape with her brother. Roman crawled toward her and pointed to the window and then to his head. Esme took his pointing as meaning that he'd hit his head on the window. She sighed and leaned forward to kiss his forehead and give him a hug. Roman giggled in her embrace and squirmed around until she let him go.

"You can't come out here by yourself, Rome. It's dangerous." Esme spoke as she helped him climb back into the apartment. Esme was having a hard time figuring out how he'd gotten put there in the first place. Maybe they should stop playing hide and seek, Roman was almost four now and he was getting smarter. The fact that he actually found a good hiding spot was proof enough of that. Esme was worried he would get somewhere she couldn't get to him and if she couldn't get to him he could hurt himself or worse, have a bad seizure. She didn't want to think about what could happen if she couldn't help him through a seizure. Esme shivered as she sat Roman down on the couch and looked him over, making sure he hadn't cut his forehead or something of the sort. When she was certain he was alright, she sat down next to him with a heavy sigh.

"Maymaymay." Roman babbled from her side and Esme looked down at him with a soft smile. They'd been trying to teach Roman how to say her name. So far all he'd been able to say was 'may' but it was progress enough. Esme nodded and pointed to herself with a thumb.

"Almost. Esme. Try again." Esme looked at Roman expectantly and he just cocked his head at her and pointed.

"MAY!" Roman shouted happily, dissolving into a fit of giggles. Esme simply chuckled and ruffled her brothers hair as he fell face first into the couch cushions, still laughing.

Esme stood from her spot on the couch and went about getting ready to leave the apartment, leaving her brother entranced by some annoying kid show or another playing on the TV. She had to drop her little brother off at the daycare before work. Esme didn't often leave him there as it was a little much for the daycare to take care of someone like her brother but Will was sick and she didn't really have any other option. Besides, SJ worked there and Esme trusted with Roman almost as much as she did Will. Esme pulled her shows over her feet and a jacket over her shoulders before plucking Roman up off the couch with the strength of someone used go lugging a kid around everywhere. She managed to push open the door while still keeping hold of Roman and she was off.

Outside was as cold as she had expected it to be and she clutched Roman closer to her chest and she walked down the sidewalk. She was lucky that the day care was so close. It took about five minutes for her to walk all the way there, taking about a minute to talk to Mr. Goodman about his Christmas trees.

"You'll come back and buy one, yes?" Mr. Goodman called after her as she continued down the street.

"If I can scrounge up the cash!" Esme called back with a laugh.

She was thankful for the warmth as she stepped inside the daycare.

Today was the day, it was the day of the tree lighting ceremony. It was one of the most exciting times every year for Anchor Bay and it was one of Magnolia’s favorite days though most people didn’t know that. Most people didn’t really know much about Mags besides the fact that she was considered the town bitch. Mags had already sent a text to both of her part-timers giving them the day off even though she had planned for it far more in advance. Her mother had done the same for her when she wasn’t in charge of everything. Now, Mags had taken over her mother’s job and was running the business. Granted there was a lot that still had to be fixed but today Mags wasn’t going to be open for long. She like most everyone else in the town would be closing her doors early to try and enjoy the festivities with both her cousin and her mother. Not like she had anyone else she’d enjoy them with.

As she neared her store she took in the beauty of the town, it was quiet with most everyone busy setting up. She for just a split second felt at peace. The small amount of snow only made the day a little better, but she had a task at hand and that was to decorate the storefront.

So, she made her way into her office and into the storage closet to pull out the decorations and set them up. It had been a yearly tradition with her mother but this year her mom had been too sick to come out and put up decorations, so it was Mags alone. She didn’t really want anyone else’s help because she knew it would taint her tradition.

Putting up the decorations had taken a little time but when she walked outside, she was proud of what she had accomplished. It wasn’t perfect but she had done it on her own, and she could only hope that when her mom saw it, she would be proud. Her phone had buzzed letting her know Remmick had arrived in town and was headed towards the house. The extra hands would be nice in taking care of her mother even though she really didn’t enjoy her cousin. But she had to admit that this was the nicest thing he had done for the family in many years.

The time had moved quickly, and Mags had sent a text to Natalie because she knew she would need her caffeine if she was going to make it through the day without murdering anyone because the town was going to be filled more than normal. Old faces returning and a few new faces appearing but that was the town.

As she made her way through the open door she was greeted with the face of Graham, who she often called graham cracker. She was concerned as to why he was still in the café, “Graham, why are you still here?” she questioned as she pulled out cash for her coffee. The boy already knew her order, so she didn’t have to guess on the prices. She then handed him an extra twenty, “Keep the tip between you and me. Use it for today.” She didn’t smile but it was who she was and somehow Graham had been used to it and had never questioned her in all the years of knowing her.

Graham was just finishing up his morning shift at the Ferry Cafe, cleaning up the counters and the espresso machine when he heard the door open. Now Graham was always a very, very happy person. But he was excited to get out of work and hang out with his bestie Cassie before the lighting of the trees in the town center. She had already texted him that she had made a stupid mistake and Cassie told him that she would explain when she got there. Graham was on the edge of his seat and hearing someone come through the door, when the sign said CLOSED, definitely made him roll his eyes ever so slightly.

Graham turned around to greet his guest and the slight bit of anger quickly faded when he realized it was his favorite customer, Mags. "Mags!" He turned around and quickly made her winter usual and handed it to her with a big smile. "Is the bookstore ready for the tree lighting ceremony?!" He leaned on the counter in front of him. "I'm heading out soon, just waiting for Cassie to show up." He looked down at his apple watch, which read 10:53. "She should be here any minute... We're going to take Lucy for a walk before tonight, the cold is too much for her little paws in the evening." Graham exaggerated a frown.

Graham's eyes went wide when Mags slid him a twenty. "Mags. You don't have to do that." His voice got quiet, he knew what she had been going through with her mom and he didn't want to take more from her. She needed the money, he really didn't. Graham tried to slide the twenty back to Mags, but she refused to take it, shaking her head. Graham swallowed. "I figure you should know...." He ran a hand through his hair rubbing the back of his neck. "Clayton is coming home.." He looked down at the counter, trying to avoid Mags' stare that could kill him with just a look. "For the entire month...." He pinched his lips together. Looking back up at her. "He flew in today..." And with that he flinched, preparing to duck just in case she threw the closest thing to her.

Natalie Dwyer

AncientQuarrelsomeCrossbill-small.gif

Natalie looked down at her phone for the first time all day, she was so busy preparing for the tree lighting. A text from the only customer she actually enjoyed the company of, and didn't make her regret not leaving town. Mags, they could almost consider each other friends, except Mags was extremely busy with her mom and Nat was extremely busy with the cafe so they never actually saw each other outside of the cafe. Natalie was sure that Mags really only became her friend because she could supply a constant drip of coffee, because everyone knew that Mags, did not like people.

She texted back rather quickly. "I'll make sure that Graham leaves the door unlocked"

Natalie was in the back gathering more chocolate for the ridiculous amounts she still had to make when she heard the bell ring which meant the door had opened. Coming out to the front a few minutes later, she saw a fuming Magnolia, her face was as bright red as the lights on a Christmas tree. She wasn't sure if she should approach or call the bomb squad.

She walked up calmly to Graham resting a hand on his shoulder. "Hey Graham, how 'bout you go check the bathrooms and lock the door now." She nodded towards the door and gave him the hint that he should get out of here and fast. Natalie was almost sure she knew why Mags was fire engine red, that meant that Graham told her Clay was coming back. Graham took the chance to run, he needed to get out of there anyways, the kids deserved to have the tree lighting off.

"I'm not sure why you keep trying to buy your coffee. If you're caffeinated, the rest of the town is that much happier and no one needs to hide in their houses till the Magnolia storm rolls over." She smirked, trying to make the whole situation lighter. Quickly, she realized that wasn't going to work....

"He told you didn't he.." She nodded towards Graham who was staring out the window waiting for his BFF Cassie. She sighed. "Let me here it."

Mags had heard the excitement in Grahams voice, she never quite understood why the teen enjoyed her so much, she had never really done anything to warrant his excitement, not even when she had first met him. She had never been mean to him but she had never had a huge conversation with him either. She nodded her head, “Yeah, decorations are up.” She hadn’t known how to respond to his plans, but she never did whenever he told her what was up. She did love Lucy but really everyone in the town loved animals. She knew Graham had meant well in trying to give back the money, but everyone was treating her like her life was plague that needed pity and she wasn’t going to let Graham give her back the money. His next words are what sent her into a rage, and she stopped hearing him speak.

Her hands gripped the counter tightly she couldn’t even think straight with the words that Graham had just said. She couldn’t believe he was returning she had pushed him to leave the town, she had lied to him, she had broken him, she had been the one to make him leave. She could feel the pain in her, and she didn’t enjoy feeling pain, she had pushed her pain down, she had told herself it had been for the best no matter how much she had been hurt.

“Why didn’t that asshole tell me himself?” her words were louder than normal, and she was more than livid, not with Graham but with his brother. She knew Clay was as dense as doorknob but that wasn’t an excuse. She quickly grabbed her phone and sent a text before Nat could stop her and his response only angered her more.

Her broken heart had been reopened and it was her fault in the first place. She began to pace, and she pushed chairs out of her way as she figured out what to say to Nat, “He shouldn’t be coming back and he should’ve stayed away. I don’t want him in my town. He left! He left Anchor Bay and now he has the audacity to return” her voice still loud. She was emotional and she had every right to be. He had left even though it had been her fault. He had tried to restart a connection and she had iced him out. She had wanted his success and she never wanted him to come back and so far in four years he really hadn’t returned to Anchor Bay.

[/div] [/div] [/div] [div class=right] [div class=scroll] Sean hadn't been home in a few days, though he doubts that either one of his parents had noticed. But he simply couldn't find the bitterness towards his parents today, for today was his absolute favourite day of the year. December 1st brought a lot of business to the farm. From here on in, he would be strictly working with the carriage horses at the farm as well as at the inn. He would be driving the famous carriages in town until the snow melts away and the cold melts into the warming spring.

He had woken up in the hayloft in the barn that morning to the excited whinnying of the six horses below him. He wasted no time to crawl down from the hayloft and begin his morning routines. First order of business was feeding, then the grooming of the horses, then he turned the six out into the sprawling pasture that was attached to the cows' field. After mucking out the stalls, he brought back in two of the horses, a large grey mare named Pixie and a slightly smaller bay named Pete.

After meticulous braiding and grooming, the two horses were looking as festive as the large black carriage behind them, adorned with garland and battery powered Christmas lights. The seats were lined with thick plaid blankets and live poinsettia flowers are weaved around the railings of the carriage. Sean headed into the farmhouse to grab a shower and clean up before heading out to the inn.

"Sean! Bring this to the inn on your way!" Sean's boss, Mr. Rochester, calls out from the kitchen. There on the counter sits a basket with fresh baked bread, homemade jam, cheeses from the cows and goats, and a few berry tarts. Sean gives a nod to Mr Rochester, who is seated by the window drinking a steaming mug of black coffee, before heading out to the barn.

Sean hitches the horses and leads them outside. He hops in the front and gently lodges the basket by his side and he urges the horses on with a flick of the reins and a click of his tongue. As the horses trot along the back roads he takes to get to the inn, the cold wind nips at his nose and cheeks. Sean pulls his jacket tight over his chest and continues driving, singing Christmas carols softly to himself.

The carriage crests the hill and the inn comes into view. Sean pulls the carriage up to the front of the inn and hops down with the basket in one arm, patting Pixie on her tall shoulder as he passes and heads inside. He sighs in relief at the warmth, though he can immediately tell that his pale nose and cheeks would be incredibly red from the cold. Sean notices JC and smiles warmly at her, walking over with the basket.

"Happy December 1st from the farm." Sean greets happily, extending the basket towards JC. "I'm sure you guys are busy today, are you going to get out to see the tree?" He asks with a tilt of his head. "If you are, I can give you a ride. The carriage is outside." Sean offers, gesturing to the large carriage outside the front door of the inn. Cassidy
Location: Airport-Anchor Bay

7u8esm-l-610x610-marzia-marziapie-vintage-cute-skirt-choker+necklace-jewels-jewelry-black+chok...jpgA4J_5BEZVW2WQOZJQ_II86L69_original.png
For the last hour of the flight Cassidy sat eagerly in her seat, staring out the window of the airplane with eager childlike anticipation. As the tires came screeching down on the tarmac Cassidy couldn't sit still as she snapped photos of the area out her window with her phone. The wait for the seat belt sign to go off felt like an eternity but as soon as that familiar ding rang out in the aircraft she was on her feet. Being lucky enough to be sat next to an empty isle seat she practically jumped into the isle. Quickly collecting her things she ran into her second blockade in her adventure, the wait to get off the plane. It almost killed her to wait in that plan even though in all reality there weren't that many people on the plane. Soon enough though Cassidy found herself free of the plane and in the airport, an awe stricken smile on her face despite it being like any other airport stuck on the girls lips as she made her way through the Airport. Taking a good many detours through the various shops that littered the place before she finally found her way to the exits.

She couldn't help but notice the curious looks she was receiving on her way through, was it the way she was acting? No of course not that would be ridiculous surely. It wasn't until she hit the door to outside that she realized why. The huge flurry of ice cold air rushing in quickly made her turn back, hugging herself and shivering madly as she looked around finally realizing that most everyone there was dressed in winter gear. Sure it was a small set back but thanks to her earlier diversions she knew exactly where to go to buy a coat, and thanks to her family pulling out a large sum of money and transferring it to american dollars she had plenty to get something she figured would work. heading back out about 20 minuets later in a rather cute trench coat and her eager happy smile back on her lips she proceeded with her route. To be expected of course she had instructions on what to do to get to where she would live. Taking a taxi out to Anchor bay, once there she would have a while before she would need to be at the tree lighting to meet the family that would be her temporary mom and dad while she was there.

The cab ride went well for her, Talking the drivers ear off with excited thoughts and questions about the surrounding area and what there was to do. When the cab pulled to her destination she happily hopped out. Quickly getting her things out of the taxi, taking one last look to make sure she had everything before paying the taxi man and waving him off happily. "Addio!" She called happily to the taxi man as he drove off before turning to take another look at her surroundings. She was so excited she almost couldn't contain it as she took in the scene of everyone bustling about to do what they needed. There was one thing though that pulled her from her little dream of excitement, glancing down she noticed that her coat worked for everything but her legs. Starting to shiver again she quickly pushed her coldness down and attempted to focus on the town. slowly making her way through the town with plenty of stops at shops to look through the window inside with curious glee. Her nose and ears colored a feint red as she ignored the cold for the more interesting things around her, still shivering a little she continued to ignore it.

The taste of the pillows was so good. It was soft and warm and she had spent the last few days just drooling over them. Oh the sleep had been sweet but now it was time to wake up. Lokna pushed her upper body up from the bed and boy did she look like a witch. Her hair was a mess and still a bit spit in the corner of the mouth. It was still undetermined whether a bird had made a nest or it's all her doing.

The effort of getting out of bed was great and she almost fell asleep again. So in a last ditch effort to get out of the bed before Rihana arrived she leaned out of the bed over the edge and fell. The thump was a bit muted but sure enough she was up sort of. She took a second to collect herself and then tried to rise up and hit her head. "Oww! That hurt a lot. Why am I such a clutch!" She sighed and got up this time making sure she didn't hit herself again. The room was bright with sun light and the light walls enhanced the effect. The beautiful pastel green walls against the backdrop and her lovely queen size bed with those comfortable pillows.

Lokna was almost lulled back to sleep only by the view but then the lighting ceremony came to mind and she hastly brushed her hair. Well it actually took her quite a bit of time. Got dressed, washed her teeth and head to the kitchen. It was weird seeing the house so empty. Her parents were of and Rihana hadn't arrived yet. Just enough time to get to the town and maybe help someone out. She had to make up the past few days sleeping somehow. Lokna didn't feel like cooking so maybe crab a bite too. To her that sounded like a plan and she but her outdoor ware on. Her gloves and scarf plus a fuzzy hat. Going by car felt a bit cheap to her if she wanted to enjoy her hometown the fullest so bike it is.

The air was crisper and the snow looked lovely although it was a bit of a risk going out to bike in this weather. The seat was cold and unless she peddled intensively she would probably never get the needed heat into her body. It all seemed calm and she decided to go to the inn cause they were always busy this time. She remembered the times she helped out with the carriages. Oh those were good times. The town was filled with busy people and she got the greating from few of the folks there. Finally reaching the inn she she set her bike so it leaned on the wall and her attention is immediately caught by the lovely carriages standing in the front. She goes and pets the large animal pulling it not looking for the owner of it and actually not caring enough. She huggs the beast. "Aren't you a pretty one"

Natalie made her way around the counter as quickly as she could, trying to get over to Mags as quick as she could. "Mags, did you really expect him to stay away from the town after he finished college? This is his home too." She was trying to speak as rationally as she could, Mags was in a furry of rage and she knew there was no stopping it. Like a storm, you had to ride it out.

"Mags, can you please just sit down and drink your coffee" Natalie pulled two chairs off of one of the tables, taking a seat herself, hoping that it might just convince Magnolia to take a breather. "You two are still friends aren't you?" She raised an eyebrow looking at Mags, Nat knew they still talked, they talked all four years he was gone, they may not have seen each other but that was because Mags and Clayton were both busy over the holidays. Yea, she knew everything.

"And things are different, didn't you only break up with him so he would go away to school?" Natalie took a sip of her own coffee, swallowing hard and making a face when it was much hotter than she expected. "Ah. Burned my tongue." She hated that rough feeling of a burnt tongue.

"He's coming back for the month, maybe you guys should see if the feelings are still there?" Natalie couldn't figure out her own problems for the life of her, but here she was counseling Magnolia on her love life. "You haven't been with anyone since. And it seemed like Clayton really loved you, from what you told me. Love like that doesn't just disappear. "

Jessica looked up from her journal, which she had been writing in or attempting to write in for the last ten minutes, to see Sean standing there extending a basket of warm bread out to her. "Hey." She smirked ever so slightly. "Happy December First." She said with less excitement than Sean had given her. Jessica loved the tree lighting just as much as the next person, but this year she was working it. Even though she would still get to enjoy it, she was just more restricted to where she could go and what she could do while it was on going.

"I am, I think my parents want me to hand out apple pie or something to the people getting carriage rides tonight." For some reason when she tried to be distant towards Sean, she always felt bad. He was always so kind to her, no matter what attitude she gave him. "Thankfully, I'll get to see it." She smiled, leaning forward onto her elbows covering her very empty journal. "Its finally quieting down here, I think for the most part everyone is checked in. And if their not, I'm sure my parents can handle it." JC was going to jump at the chance to get out of work just a bit early, and her parents wouldn't mind if she was going with Sean to help set up.

"I would absolutely love a ride." JC smiled rather genuinely, standing up from her chair at the front desk. Closing up her journal and tucking it under her arm. "Let me just go bring the bread to my parents." JC quickly slid her arm under the handle of the basket and ran it to the kitchen, she bother to look for her parents, already deciding that she was leaving no matter what. If they missed her, they could text her.

Jessica made her way back out front to meet Sean. She picked up her bag from behind the desk and swung it over her shoulder. "Where to next?" She adjusted the strap on her shoulder hugging her journal close.

Cassie Gif 5.gif

Walking in the crisp winter air, Cassie was jittery as hell. Her fingers tapped away at her phone screen as she texted back and forth with Graham while her mind swirled in a little bit of chaos. After receiving the latest text from her bestie though, she decided to just wait until she met up with him to explain properly. Instead she let the snow and decorations of the small town bring the smile back to her face. This time of year was always beautiful in Anchor Bay and it just warmed her heart to see it all. It was a time for giving sharing joy with others which was exactly what this cheerleader was all about.

Her smile got even bigger when the cafe came into sight with Graham sitting in the window. Everything was always better when she was with him, be that school, drama, cheer or anything else for that matter. Cassie picked her moment when he was looking at his phone to burst through the door and fling her arms round over her shoulders from behind. "Guess who?" she challenged even though it was totally obvious it was her.

It was cold out. Flemming had deftly cleaned his guinea pig cage, taking Locke out for some hands-on time and then disappearing from the house. He's thickened up with two coats layered on top of one another, looking a little bit like a marshmallow. Generally speaking, winters in the bay weren't too bad, but Flem can't stand the cold, and probably gets sick easier than the average unvaccinated infant. His mother would tell him to bundle up even more if she gave a shit.

Most of the stores on Main Street are closed thanks to the tree lighting. But he does manage to grab his morning coffee, because no holiday can hold back the rage of caffeine addicts on withdrawal. He always gets his drink stupid sweet, way more than is ever really necessary. Whipped cream clings to his lips like a mustache, making him look like some kind of grunge punk Santa Clause before he licks it off. He almost got a part-time job as a mall Santa this year, but couldn't pull it off no matter how many pillows they stuffed under his clothing, so he didn't get the job. Figures, it's a profession for the elderly.

Cold air blows Flem's hair this way and that, it whipping around in dirty golden strips like ribbons. His music is playing just a bit too loud, so he can't really hear anyone passing by.

Graham kept his distance from the hell fire that was Mags, distracting himself with Cassie's situation. Suddenly the texts stopped coming though and he was slightly concerned due to the fact he wasn't sure he was going to make it out of The Ferry Cafe alive. He just kept staring at his phone, opening and closing apps to past the time as he waited for his bestie to show up.

All of a sudden he felt arms fling around his shoulders and for a second he thought he was going to be murdered by Magnolia. She couldn't get her anger out on Clay so he figured he was the next best thing. Praying for his life he squeezed his eyes tightly, ready for the impending doom. However when he heard Cassie's light and cheery voice float across the air, he realized he was safe and didn't just live his last day on earth. He reached up and holding onto one of her wrists, embracing her back in the best way he could. "Sterling?" He joked laughing lightly before turning around in his seat. "Cas, your hands are soo cold." He held onto them for just a moment longer, trying to give her some more of his heat.

"I'd offer to make you coffee before going to get Lucy, but I think its a better idea we get out of here.." He nodded towards Mags who was still pacing around the coffee shop, throwing her hands around. "I just told her Clay is coming back for the whole month.." He whispered to Cassie. He opened the door holding it open for Cassie and looking back over at Natalie before walking out the door to follow Cassie. He felt weird not saying goodbye to her, but he also knew this wasn't the time and it was better to leave it, knowing that Nat would understand.

"Want to grab lunch at the diner?" Graham said while taking stride next to Cassie. "Then you can tell me all about how you had the 'great idea' to invite your sister to town. Without telling your dad." He said sarcastically. They made their way towards the port, luckily Graham's house wasn't too far from the center and getting Lucy would be a peace of cake. 'mmh cake...' Graham thought to himself, now craving a slice of vanilla cake.

Mags was still fuming even as Nat came around to try and stop her anger filled tirade. Nat wouldn’t understand why Mags was pissed but she was, maybe because her broken heart had reopened, and the pain had come rushing right back like the four years meant nothing. As Nat tried to be the voice of reason Mags shot her daggers, “I made him leave, I broke his heart. So, no I didn’t expect him to come back! It’s been four years Nat. Four!” she held her hand and made the number four just to add the emphasis. He had missed many Christmas lightings and days. He had missed her finding out about her mom, he had missed his sister and her moment of need. Clay had missed everything and now he was returning home. She moved another chair and let out another groan of annoyance, “I can’t sit Natalie.” Mags never used her full name unless she was in a real mood which only happened every day. Mags knew she was a handful as a friend mostly because she really did hate people.

She was under a large amount of stress and she could feel her heartbeat pounding rapidly within her chest, “We are kind of friends. And of course, that’s why I broke up with him because he wasn’t making it easy. He was going to give up his dream. I couldn’t let him do that for me. I’m not worth that, especially not him.”

Finally, she had calmed down and even sat down her hands still on her phone as she let out a dark laugh towards Nat, “Nat, he has someone else. I saw it when I tried to surprise him. I told you this. And he posted a picture with her on his Instagram.” She had pulled out her phone and showed Nat the picture.

image0.jpg

She put her phone away and took a long drink of her coffee, “I can’t just interfere in his happiness. No girl would give him up. He’s perfect and I was stupid, and I regret it every day.” She still had the anger filled within her eyes as she looked at her coffee. She finally looked back at Natalie and then took a deep breath, “I never did stop loving him, but he moved on and there’s not a damn thing I can do about that. Is there?” she quirked up her eyebrow almost challenging Nat to tell her otherwise.

Micki had been kind of excited for the tree lighting ceremony, especially after last year. So, she had already left her house early that day to see how the little storefronts were looking. She knew they would all be decorating if they hadn’t already put them up and that made the town seem like it came out of one of those Hallmark films where the boy and the girl fall in love. Something about this time of year always made her feel like there was romance in the air though she wasn’t necessarily looking for it. She just enjoyed the small coating of snow, it only added to the charm of the quaint town that she had fallen in love with quickly. She was still newer than some people, but she didn’t let that get to her. As she passed by the bookstore the decorations were up, and she passed the café and saw two girls having a conversation. She didn’t really know many people but did recognize everyone around in the town.

While walking she recognized the younger male walking, she had seen him around the halls last year when she was a senior, so she ran to catch up with him, hoping not to fall flat on her face from the slickness of the snow. When she caught up, she tapped his shoulder, “Hey it’s Flemming right?” she questioned making sure she hadn’t gotten his name wrong, “What brings you downtown so early? The lighting is still hours away.” Maybe the younger male enjoyed seeing everything being put up as well or maybe he had other plans, but it was nice to see a face that she actually knew the name to.

Aiden had woken up little later than he had originally planned but it was fine, he knew SJ had accepted that he was almost never on time. He never meant to be late be he had always been later to his tutoring sessions. He didn’t move any faster than he normally would have, but he heard the door open and then close which meant his sister had left for some kind of adventure. He finally pushed himself off of his bed and meandered through the hall and into the bathroom. He looked at himself in the mirror, he still looked tired but that was normal for him. He had been training more and more so he would be better in the upcoming games. As he was getting ready, he received a text from Cassie about the part that night and of course he was going to it. He sent a quick text to his sister letting her know about the party so she could also plan for it. He knew the guys wouldn’t mind his sister coming, the more the merrier when it came to parties especially with today being one of the biggest festivities of the town.

When he finally got himself dressed, he sent a text to SJ so she knew he was on his way to her and apparently today they were going to be doing Shakespeare, he was not thrilled. English and poetry had always been so boring but with the help of SJ he had actually been doing better in his classes, so he actually liked her, she was like another big sister just a smarter one.

When he finally arrived at her place he walked in, it wasn’t like anyone else would just walk into her house and he made his way to her table, “Honey, I’m here to learn and be smarter!” he yelled loud enough for her to hear. He really did enjoy her as a tutor and wouldn’t trade her for any other tutor in the world. She was patient with him and let him be dumb and figure out the information on his own.

Ellie was nervous.

Why?

She was only going home. She shouldn't be nervous of home. There was plenty of things she should be excited for. Seeing her brothers, her parents, a few friends... the holidays, presents. It was just the scary things she was nervous about. Seeing Jessica again, maybe possibly deciding to stay home for the rest of the year. What's wrong with taking a year off? Right? Law school would always be there. The money probably wouldn't be though...

A sigh escaped her, the breath almost calming her as more thoughts threatened to weasel their way into her mind.

It's Christmas. Who's stressed on Christmas? Well, it's almost Christmas. She stared out the window and looked at all the decorations and last minute ribbons being wrapped around a few lamp poles. Some of the people she recognized actually. You don't leave for a year and forget everyone... there were just some people you couldn't forget. The cab came to a stop behind another. Muttering a thank you to the driver and exiting the vehicle. Her eyebrows rose when she saw a familiar site of someone. Ellie gasped in surprise dropping her bag and running towards her brother, jumping on top of his back like she always used to. "Woah! Is that the Clayton Moore?! Home? For a holiday? I'm shocked. Call the presses, get the police! It's an impostor!" She laughed, hopping off his back so she could face her older brother.

"So, where's the girlfriend?" The blonde asked, looking around for any sight of a certain girl.

[/div] [/div] [/div] [div class=right] [div class=scroll] Dahlia lifts the reusable to go coffee mug to her lips and takes a long swig of her fourth coffee of the day. On a typical day, she would never drink this much coffee due to the shakes it gives her in her hands but today is different. After working a long fourteen hour shift at the hospital, all Dahlia wanted is to simply go to bed. But that simply could not be because the tree lighting ceremony would begin soon and she would have to be on death's door in order to miss it.

In all her years, Dahlia has only missed it once when she was forced to stay at Juilliard over Christmas break to perform in their rendition of The Nutcracker. Every other year, she was either living in Anchor Bay or made the trek home from school to attend, so one long shift at the hospital wasn't going to stop her.

It had been a rather busy night at the typically calm pediatrics hospital. A little girl came in with a broken arm from slipping on black ice while another came in with a deep laceration in her hand from trying to help cut down a Christmas tree. They had also done a small tree lighting ceremony in one of the common areas for the kids who weren't able to go out and see the real thing. But the highlight of Dahlia's whole day was helping to deliver the first December baby of Anchor Bay area, adorably named Noelle. She stops in to check on mom and baby before heading out, finding them both sound asleep in each others arms while the nurse taking over Dahlia's patients checks their vitals. Dahlia waves a quiet goodbye to her coworker before heading to the break room.

Slipping out of her scrubs was a relieving feeling, even though she had already had to change her top twice after being thrown up on. She pulls a hoodie on and then her jacket and boots before saying a quick goodbye to the other nurses and doctors before heading out into the cold.

Dahlia began her walk home and decided that if she walks quickly, she could grab a shower and freshen up before the tree lighting. The cold wind pulls strands of her hair away from her face, leaving her ears and cheeks vulnerable to the cold. She pulls her heavy fleece scarf up a little bit to help retain some warmth in her skin. It wouldn't be long now until she was home.

She turns onto the street before hers, a street filled with a lot of the shops and tourist areas, though hardly many people come to Anchor Beach at any other time of the year than December 1st. Dahlia notices quite a few friendly faces in the crowd, mostly people returning to their home town from far away places for the beautiful festivities. She wonders if Kat, a local from Anchor Bay that she met in New York during her time at Juilliard and became friends with, would be returning home this year. But out of the crowd of people, one girl stands out slightly. She looks young and bright eyed, peering into shop windows as she walks. If it wasn't for her strangely exposed legs and the luggage in her hand. Dahlia decides to head over and see if the girl needs any help.

"Hey, can I help you find someplace? You should get out of the cold, you don't want to get frostbite on your legs..." Dahlia pauses, looking down at the luggage. She notices the girl's name on the tag. "Cassidy. That's a lovely name. I'm Dahlia." She introduces sweetly. She notices the girl shivering and pulls the thick scarf from her neck and holds it out to her. "Here, you look really cold." [/div] [/div] [/div] [/div]

[/div] [/div] [/div] [div class=right] [div class=scroll] Sean smiles warmly when JC mentions that she would like to come with him. Sean always loves the company when he's driving the carriage, not because he doesn't like being alone, but because he loves it so much that it makes him incredibly happy to share it with others. He knows very little about JC, other than what he learned when he was still attending high school. She seemed to spend quite a bit of time alone and didn't seem to have too many connections with others. He also knows that she's a foster kid and can sometimes have a bit of an attitude, though that hardly bothers him at all. Although the two had never really talked outside of the inn, he admired her spunk and charisma.

When JC returns from the kitchen with her bag and journal in hand, Sean grins. "Well, I have to head into town and set up for the carriage rides. I can drop you off somewhere if you want, courtesy of Sean's personal taxi service, or you can stick around if you want. I never say no to company." Sean explains, readjusting the gloves on his hands as they head outside. He does a once-over of the horses to make sure they're still properly hitched before hopping up into the front and helping JC up. He turns the speakers on in the back to a rather low setting, just enough for background noise.

Once they're settled, Sean flicks the reins and the horses head onward at a smooth walk as to not rattle the carriage too much. Sean searches for something to say, now realizing that he's never really spent much time alone with JC other than in passing at the inn or in town. He turns down another side road to head into town to avoid the major streets that are bound to have cars on them. "Do you want to try driving the carriage? It's really fun, plus we're on a side road so its a pretty good place to learn." Sean offers, holding the reins out to JC calmly. He had decided that trying to make pleasant small talk would likely irritate the younger girl and make things awkward. [/div] [/div] [/div] [/div]

[div class=container][div class=image][/div] [div class=blk][div class=title]katherine "kat" taylor [div class=line][/div] [div class=lil]outfit | vehicle | engagement ring [/div][/div] [div class=b][div class=lilimage][/div][/div] [div class=info] [div class=post][div class=scroll] Katherine hadn't been back to Anchor Bay in months. It seemed that she only made it home for the holidays anymore since she was constantly working. Even now, as she walked down the stairs of her parents house, she was making calls and hunting down some impossibly hard to find fabric. Miranda, her boss, had called demanding that she find it and have it shipped to the office because the assistant covering for Kat was ‘too incompetent to do so’ according to her.

"I'm going to the tree lighting! I'll be back later!" she called out to her parents as she was walking out the front door. "Sorry. I'm still here. Any luck?" she asked the woman on the other end of the phone call, "Oh thank god. Yes, to the office in Mrs. Priestly's name. Thank you so much, Amy! You're a life saver. Okay. Happy holidays to you too." she was relieved to have found the fabric in question so she could enjoy the tree lighting in peace.

When she finally arrived in town, she stepped out of her car and onto the sidewalk. It was always a breath of fresh air to be back in Anchor Bay. The cozy setting of her home town was much different from that of her life in the crazy city of New York. She loved it there but nothing could compare to home. Plus, she needed this break from wedding planning and her fiancé Jordan. He only hadn't come along because he had training but he was supposed to fly out in three weeks to spend Christmas with her family since they had been with his last year. She wouldn't admit it out loud but she wasn't overly excited about his arrival.

Her heels clicked against the concrete as she walked, wondering who she might run into along her path. She was hoping to see Dahlia or Rihana, since they were the only people from home that she was even semi in touch with. Mostly through social media though she and Dahlia texted here and there as well. Hell, she'd even be happy running into Clay, though as far as she knew he hadn't been in Anchor Bay in years so she was doubtful that would happen.

She pulled her Michael Kors purse onto her shoulder as she walked towards the local diner because she was seriously in need of some coffee. Luckily she'd only parked two blocks away so she didn't need to go far. She walked inside, the bell dinging as she did, and saw a few familiar faces as she strutted up to the counter to order. "I'll take a large coffee to go, please." she said, pulling out her wallet to pay for her stuff.

Eddie huffed at the stack of papers on his desk, shoulders sagging as he let himself sink into the plush of his office chair. The key for the assignment was on top of the stack, Mr. Duncan's handwriting looking brash against the stark white of the paper, much like how the people on the street looked bold against the pure blankness of the fresh snow on the ground. Eddie squinted up at the bleak sky, the clouds threatening more dusting of snow to come, however he wouldn't be out to enjoy it. Mr. Duncan, while being a great man, had left Eddie with a very large pile of finals to grade from the first semester. Luckily, he had taken half the stack, but the pile still seemed far too steep to start on its own. Eddie rubbed at his eyes, letting the dark of his closed eyes wash over him and give him slight relief. At least, relief until he opened his eyes.

Why did he think it was a good idea to put his desk right in front of the window?

Eddie blinked a couple of times, hand reaching for his pens and quickly grabbing the first one he felt, luckily it being a red pen. The cap was discarded, the key set to his left, and the first final on the stack placed in front of him. Already, Eddie could see some wrong answers. His pen got to work, marking incorrect answers on each page and eventually putting a score by the name with a large circle around it. This student had barely passed. They'd sure be disappointed to see their grade. Eddie continued on, getting through a pretty decent chunk of the stack when Mr. Duncan called.

Eddie glanced down at his phone screen, seeing the name light up his screen before he answered the call. "Hey Mr. Duncan! I was just grading some of the finals, what's up?" Eddie leaned back in his chair, letting the back support him while one arm stretched up to relieve his muscles from being in the same position for so long. Mr. Duncan let out a little chuckle, sounding almost unnatural for the mostly stoic man.

"Hi Eddie, are you really cooping yourself up for the day? The tree lighting ceremony is tonight, you should go out and have fun," Mr. Duncan huffed, the sound of his wife saying something in the background and bells jingling around them.

"Ah, I actually wasn't planning on going," Eddie said, his voice not too soft, but not too firm. He was perfectly content staying at home for the night and grading papers while Christmas music played in the background.

"You weren't? Well, then I've got a job for you! I dress up as the Santa at the tree lighting every year, and I need an elf!" Mr. Duncan quickly said, his smile evident in his voice, "You should be the elf! I've already got a costume and everything, all you have to do is show up and act merry!"

"Mr. Duncan, I'm honored, but I think you've forgotten that I'm 6'3, isn't that a bit tall for an elf?" Eddie scrambled for excuses for not going out, body slumping down as he tried to think on his toes. "Plus, I don't want to fall behind on the finals I have to grade. I only have--"

"Nonsense! There's no such thing as being too tall for an elf! You can give me a bit more of those finals, and I'll grade them, you can finish the rest when you go and visit family,"

"I, uh, wont actually be going to visit my family," Eddie's voice was meek at this sentence, finally starting to debate the idea. Less finals the grade sounded like a pretty good deal for being cold and dressing up as a Christmas elf. "But, I will come down Mr. Duncan, that elf costume better be ready!"

They quickly exchanged goodbye's and Eddie hung up the phone, sinking back into his chair and huffing. Time to go get into an elf costume and be around kids for a bit. One quick glance outside showed that he'd need more than just the hoodie he wore, however his jeans should be fine. He grabbed his thick denim sherpa jacket and pulled it on quickly over his light gray hoodie, adjusting his sleeves and hood for a second before grabbing his beanie to toss on really fast. Once his upper half had been covered, he quickly moved to pull on some boots and tied them up with loopy knots. He snatched up his keys and patted himself down- Wallet? Check. Phone? Check. Keys? Check. A small amount of the tests he had to grade? Check. Eddie had everything and was finally ready to go, so he locked his door behind him and climbed into his bitterly cold car, starting it and finally pulling away from his little house.

On his way towards Mr. Duncan's house, Eddie pulled his car into the parking lot of Anchor Bay's very own diner to grab a bite to eat. He entered and saw some of his students chilling in a booth, although he ignored them and settled into his own booth to order a coffee and some hashbrowns to eat really quick. Although that slice of cake in the display was looking pretty dang good..

Rihana was relieved to say the least. Letting out a happy little sigh as she stepped out of the airport into the cold air. It was chilling to the touch against her bare legs stomach and arms. “Probably should have dressed for home. Not for Cali.” Rihana mumbled to herself as she scanned the surrounding view of the place. As always anchor bay was just as beautiful as she remembered, a place she would never truly be able to leave. Sure she flew around lot. Constantly in different countries and places doing things most people would shit themselves over doing. But in the end Rihana always came back home. Quickly getting her things into the taxi she climbed in the back. Relaxing in the warm heat of the car she pulled her phone out. Scrolling threw a few of her social media pages before texting her sister. “Hey sis! Where are you right now? Haven’t run off with any guys yet right” Wanting to make sure at least her sister was in town. It would be boring if she wasn’t! Rihana loved her sister deeply and if nothing else Lokna was one of the only reasons Rihana returned as much as she did.

The cab ride wasn’t long and soon pulled up in front of her and her family’s home. A nice place Rihana had bought for the 4 of them and something she was proud of. Smiling up at the home as she got her bags from the trunk and paid the driver. “It’s good to be back.” Rihana said softly as she headed inside. Not to her surprise everyone was out, most likely in town so Rihana decided to join them. Quickly changing into more anchor bay weather friendly clothes before she headed into the garage. Looking over the two cars she owned with glee. They where her first two purchases from her job, vehicles she’d always dreamed of owning and now did. An old 1970’s Dodge Charger and a Humvee her and her friends customized. They where a nice little duo in Rihana’s eyes. The charger for the summers and the humvee for the winter. It was pretty obvious with the current weather outside what vehicular Rihana chose to take. Climbing into the Humvee she started it up and headed off to town to see what she could do. Maybe go grab some coffee from her favorite cafe in town. Try to go see a few friends. While friends would have been nice she figured her sister wanted to see her so she settled for snagging a cup of coffee. Pulling up to the car she hopped out happily and headed in to grab some coffee.

Lokna Harrow

The horses fur was soft and fluffy. She could nearly loose herself to it. But the buzz of her phone was the thing to draw her back to reality. It was Graham, the brother of her high school crush and her theater mate. He invited her to join his friends during the tree lighting and afterwards party. It was nice of someone to actually invite her to social gathering not just Ria talking others to death before she just got a pass. Yeah it had been long since she had been to a party. Her hands even though in cloves were still freezing a bit and holding her phone for texting didn't help.

Her attention was snagged by the carriage that left from the side of the inn. The bitter note in it was that in there sat no other than her ex-friend. The one who just abandoned her. Loky was not that lonely of a person but what she did felt like a betrayal and one she unfortunately wasn't going to forget. Another buzz of her phone sent her to fumble a bit and the phone fell from Lokna's hand to the street. "No, no, no, no! Why this had to happen to me? Please don't be broken!" She picked the phone up and cleaned it a bit to look for any damage. Her phone had a small spiderweb of cracks on the upper left corner from before and another one had appeared there. "Oh thank the lord it does not seem serious I hope other things are also well". The cause of this mess and many other messes in her life was Rihana. Her text was the one to start it all. With hands shaking and heart still drumming in her chest she wrote a reply and hoped her sister didn't much about her.

/Ri, you know that I as a nutcase without papers and a total trash mammal have no shot in finding a SO. So no I am hugging a horse near the inn. Besides don't worry if I don't show up later I actually got invited to a party without you pulling the strings. Or is this another of your doings?/

She had no wish to stay near the inn anymore and her stomach also indicated that it was hind time to eat. So Loky took her bike and rode downtown to the diner. There also was no place to leave the bike so again against the wall it went. When she opened the door a lovely *ding* could be heard that sound was so familiar to her and hearing it again was a delight. In there were more people than she hoped. A man eating, fancy looking woman at the counter and some people of her age. For a second she was unsure what to do and stood there like a statue and thought up a plan.

Cassidy
Location:Anchor bay

Cassidy was so busy looking into the shops with awe that she almost didn't notice the woman walking up to her. It wasn't till the girl spoke that Cassidy finally noticed her. Looking over to her curiously before she sent the girl a very happy smile. "Ciao! Sono un po 'nuovo qui, quindi mi guardavo intorno!" She said happily to the woman before she realized she had said everything in Italian. Her look growing to a bit of self frustration she offered an embarrassed chuckle before speaking again. "Hello! My apologies miss i'm kinda new here. I'm supposed to meet my care takers at the tree lighting." She said softly still embarrassed about her first greeting being messed up. Hearing the woman compliment her name Cassidy blushed a little. "Thank you." She said softly to the woman, sending her another sweet smile before she watched the woman remove her scarf and hold it out for Cassidy. Quickly shaking her head as she looked between the scarf and Dahlia. "O-oh no Ma'am you don't need to offer you're scarf. It's my fault anyways hehe. I didn't dress right for the weather here so I was gonna find a story to buy something to wear." She said with another slightly embarrassed chuckle to Dahlia. The politeness of this random girl made Cassidy happy but still she couldn't accept the scarf. After all it was her own fault for not looking up what the weather was like out in Anchor Bay at this time,

Savannah was quite possibly the most annoying person on the face of the planet. Sterling loved his sisters, he really did, but there came a point where he was just done. This was one of those points. Savannah was either trying to piss him off or was actually just really overly excited about the lighting. She hadn’t left him alone for the past hour while he was trying to get ready. Usually, it only took Sterling thirty minutes tops to throw something on and fix his hair just right, but Savannah was making it drag on forever. He couldn’t exactly get dressed while his little sister was sat on his bed, gushing about the stupid tree lighting and her new boyfriend. Savannah loved Christmas with a burning passion that no other could ever hope to match and the lighting was the highlight of her entire year. But, the boyfriend stuff, Sterling would rather not have to hear all about that. Vince Trafford was an alright guy, better than her dating a senior at her age, but Sterling thought she could do better. He didn’t really like Vince’s attitude, then again Sterling didn’t really like the attitude of anyone who thought they were better than him, but Vince was a little too much. If Sterling was honest, the reason he didn’t really like Vince was because he was too much like him. Sterling did not want Savannah dating a cocky asshole. But she was obsessed.

“Vince is gonna take me to Pike Point after the lighting.” Vannah turned over onto her back and stared dreamily up at the ceiling, “You know what happens at Pike Point, don’t you, Sterling?” Sterling whipped around with a shirt halfway on and looked at Savannah incredulously. Of course, he knew what happened at Pike Point. Sterling had been there a few times himself but there was no way in hell he was letting his little sister go there with that punk.

“No. No way, Vannah.” Sterling shook his head as he finished pulling his shirt on, “There’s no way in hell that I’m letting you go there with him. I don’t trust that guy one bit. Not happening.” He sat down on the edge of the bed to pull his shoes on. Savannah groaned and stuck her bottom lip out, sitting up so that her brother could see her. Sterling simply shook his head again and flicked Savannah on the arm. “You and Vince can come to Rich’s party with me if you want. But you’re not going to Pike Point. You can bring Sarah so she can make sure you don’t sneak off.” Savannah groaned even louder.

“Come on, Sterling. Sarah’s such a buzzkill!” She complained about her twin wit fake lamentation.

“Exactly.” Sterling replied with a grin. As if on cue, Sarah breezed into the room with an empty cereal box clutched in her clenched fists. She looked the picture of their mother, well put together and a complete mess at the same time. Her hair was a frizzy mess, there was a large scratch in her glasses that Sterling didn’t know how she didn’t notice, and the paint on her fingernails was chipped and barely hanging on. Despite all these things she still held an air of organized authority about her. Sarah was the type of person that cried if she got a B. In other words, Sarah was the complete opposite of her twin and her brother. Sterling and Savannah were actually remarkably similar at their core. Sarah was her mother’s child through and through.

“Savannah.” Sarah seethed, “Did you eat my cereal?” Savannah made a sound that was a mix between a squeak and a cry and hid behind Sterling to escape Sarah’s stare.

“I’m sorry. It was all that was left.” Sterling could see the fire that grew in Sarah’s eyes and he wasn’t stupid. He jumped up off the bed with the speed of a cat and was out of the way before Sarah pounced on her twin. Sterling left the house as fast as he possibly could, leaving the sounds of Savannah’s desperate cries behind him.

The street was cold and Sterling didn’t really have any idea where he was going. Mags had informed him that he had the day off so he couldn’t go and shut himself away in the bookstore. All Sterling really knew was that he wanted to not be in the house right now. His father would be home from going to visit his mother soon and Sterling did not want to be there when he did. Forest was a good but imposing man and Sterling would rather avoid being under that intense and expecting gaze. Forest had high standards for his son, that Sterling had a hard time meeting most of the time. He set the bar high and Sterling was always trying desperately to reach it. He always seemed to come up short. Always. Sometimes Sterling thought that bar was rigged and Forest would only raise it more once Sterling finally managed to reach it and he would lose his grip. It couldn’t be helped though so he would much rather just avoid it for now. But if he wanted to do that he’d need something to occupy his time, hence wandering out into town with no destination. Well, at least he didn’t have a destination until he spotted two familiar people walking down the street.

“Graham, Cass!” Sterling shouted to get their attention, jogging to catch up with his friends, “Hi, I hope you guys don’t mind if I tag along.” He grinned at them, a beaming grin that might’ve blinded anyone not used to it. He hoped Cassie and Graham were on their way to somewhere warm because this cold was beginning to bite at him. “My dad’s gonna be home in a little and Sarah and Savannah are tearing each other apart, so I kinda wanna stay out of the house for a little.” Sterling informed them. If it were anyone but Graham and Cassie he never would have told them that. Sterling was an open book, but only with those that he really cared about.

“Also! You’re not gonna believe this,” Sterling became suddenly excited, his hands waving every which way as he spoke, “Savannah tried to tell me this morning that she was going to go to Pike Peak with VINCE.” He made a disgusted noise, “I told her no, but I doubt she listens to me. I really hope Sarah can keep her occupied or I’m gonna have to tear apart Vince Trafford and Savannah.” Sterling ended exasperatedly.

"Happy holidays." she said with a cheerful smile. Kat was in a good mood and nothing could ruin that. She loved Christmas, it was her favorite time of year. She loved the snow, she loved the singing, Christmas movies, the lights and just about everything about the holiday season. Who didn't?

She lifted the decorative to-go cup to her lips, taking in the hot liquid before making a face. It definitely needed more creamer. She grabbed some hazelnut creamer, dumping it inside to give it better flavor. As she turned around she saw a girl with fierce red hair who she immediately recognized as Lokna. She only knew her because of her sister. Kat and Rihana had been friends in high school but they hadn't really spoken much in the recent years.

Kat adjusted her purse on her shoulder before strutting over to where the younger girl stood. "Loky? Wow, I haven't seen you in years. It's me, Kat." she said, offering her name in case she didn't recognize her. "How have you been? Are you going to the tree lighting?" she asked, taking another sip from her coffee.

Nat sat there and listened, she listened to everything that Mags needed to let out in this moment. She knew there was no talking her down rationally, just, just letting her get it all out. Clayton was back, whether that was temporarily or not, the idea of it was obviously weighing on her. She just nodded along as Mags went on and on. She could tell that when Magnolia finally took a seat that she was starting to accept that Clayton was back.

Natalie picked up the phone as she slid it across the table.. "You're worth more than you let yourself believe Mags..." She said not taking her eyes off the phone. She knew that making eye contact with Mags in this moment would be too much for her emotions. "Things change Mags" Natalie slid the phone back to Magnolia crossing her arms. "And that photo." She nodded towards her leaning back against her chair. "Is a year old, why do you think he's coming back for so long, he's never done that before, there has to be a reason." She smiled. "And even with your bitchy ass, no one compares to you."

"If you really regret it Magnolia, this might be your last chance to make everything right." She stood up picking her chair up and flipping it back over on to the table. "Who knows," Shrugging her shoulders, "you guys could be like one of those really bad hallmark movies." She smiled, picking up her empty coffee cup and throwing it out. "Now get the hell out of here, I have to finish making the buckets of hot chocolate for tonight." Ushering Mags to the door. "I'll see you tomorrow for your coffee. And you're not paying."

Clayton had been deep within his own thoughts, he hadn't heard the cab pull up behind him dropping off another at the exact spot he had been dropped off not five minutes earlier. When he heard the sound of a bag falling and foot steps charging at him he jumped, rather startled until he felt the familiar arms wrapping around his neck. He smiled, he had missed his family so much. And the sight of his sister wiped all memory of concern from his thoughts for the time being.

"Hey!" He smiled, "It's not my fault California is on the other side of the continent." He reached up and holding her wrists for a moment. "Get over here so I can give you a real hug." Clayton stood up and embraced his sister for the first time in a year. He really hated being so far away from home, he had missed Ellie and Graham growing up, and all of their accomplishments. Facetiming just wasn't the same, and they were all busy with their own things.

When Ellie got accepted to Harvard, she called him right away, but it just wasn't the same. He didn't get to help her move in, or show her about how to hide the alcohol in her dorm and not be caught by the RA's. He wasn't there for his brother's dance competitions or his play performances, being away from home for four years began to weigh on him.

Clayton leaned back away from his sister, still holding on to her forearms. "You look really good El." He let go before sitting back down on the bench, when she asked the question he had secretly been dreading. He still wasn't sure how to tell his family, that, he proposed to Mia.

"Oh yea.." He smirked, crossing his arms across his chest before leaning back. "She didn't want to take off the entire month from work, she's flying down for Christmas though."

JC smirked when he offered to drop her off somewhere or that she could hang out with him for the day. "We'll see where the ride takes us." She didn't want to commit to anything, not knowing who they might run into or who she may need to avoid. Plus she had her journal, she may just want to write while taking in the set up of the lights. Everyone loved this day, and no matter how stressful it tended to be no one ever let it show.

JC followed Sean out into the cold and winter wonderland, it was as if everyone had been decorating all night. There was garland wrapped around the street lights, and wreaths on every door. The lights wouldn't turn on till this evening however. Even though she had been in this town for almost ten years, she was always in awe of all the effort that was put into creating this winter wonderland. JC took Sean's assistance to get into the carriage and they were off to the center.

JC could feel her phone buzzing away within her coat, but she ignored it. She knew what her parents were saying, you can't just leave work, come back, blah blah blah. She didn't care, she wanted to be out in the town, and when did she ever want to be out in the public, they should be proud of her for socializing. JC was quite, she was taking in everything, being brought back to reality when Sean started to talk again.

She was nervous, "I don't think I want that much control..." The idea of driving the carriage was scary to her, she wasn't really afraid of horses, from a distance. But the idea of trying to drive a carriage, with not one, but two, horses. "I don't want to scare them.. What if they run off, I think I should stick to just being a passenger" She laughed nervously.
